Shailene Woodley is everywhere in NYC right now. She visited David Letterman, where he grilled Shailene about her clay swallowing. They also talked about leaky gut syndrome. Dave had a fine time trying not to laugh. Shai also chatted with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan about her exploding-salmon suitcase. I’ll concentrate on fashion in this post.
At last night’s Insurgent premiere, Shailene finally brought it in a Ralph Lauren dress with a plunging neckline and a front slit. The dress had a cool, buttony detail on the side, but it was simple enough to fit Shailene’s overall style. This is a solid New York premiere dress. She’s growing out her hair with a small ponytail, which I’m glad to see. Shailene posed with Miles Teller, who also wore Ralph Lauren (Purple Label). He may be a brat, but dude looks good in a three-piece suit. The other guys — including Ansel Elgort in Prada and Theo James in Dolce & Gabbana — are in the gallery, so we can talk about more dresses.
Suki Waterhouse chose a blush-clored Reem Acra dress with a lace overlay. She enjoys going for the princessy vibe, but the side cutouts ruin the dreamy effect of the dress. Suki pinned back her bangs – is she growing them out?
Octavia Spencer wore Tadashi Shoji. I love the top of this dress with the jacquard pattern. The skirt struck me as a little too boho, but this is a popcorn-crunching movie, so she’s having fun.
Zoe Kravitz rocked an awesome Christian Dior dress that couldn’t even be undone by a mullet. I love it. The silhouette is fresh and youthful but not too cutesey. Zoe’s jewelry is all Dior as well.
Ashley Judd went fussy with a floral Badgley Mischka gown. This dress is very pretty but too formal for a NYC screening. It would probably work for an awards show or gala.
Maggie Q fit the theme of Insurgent with a funky, futuristic Zuhair Murad gown. This is one case where sheer overly works, and the elegant, drapey skirt is a nice contrast to the intricate upper half of the dress.
