No couple is a stranger from fighting and that includes actor Dax Shepard and his actress wife Kristen Bell. And sometimes those little misunderstanding’s don’t happen at the most opportune time, like in front of your kiddos. Shepard revealed how he and Bell handle fighting in front of their two daughter’s they share together Delta, 5, and Lincoln, 3. It’s a tip the couple picked up in marriage counseling.

“You know, generally, kids see their parents get in a fight and then parents sort it out in a bedroom and then later they’re fine, so the kid never learns, how do you de-escalate? How do you apologize? So we try, as often as possible, to do that in front of them. If we fought in front of them, we want to also make up in front of them, Shepard, 43, revealed while out at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on Monday, December 3.

To the man mocked me in our wedding photos because I cried too many tears of joy, Who wore a baby Bjorn for 2 straight years to show his girls how to be as adventurous as possible, Who held our dear little shakey mann pup for 8 hrs straight on the day we had to put him down, I know how much you loved using. I know how much it got in your way. And I know, because I saw, how hard you worked to live without it. I will forever be in awe of your dedication, and the level of fierce moral inventory you perform on yourself, like an emotional surgery, every single night. You never fail to make amends, or say sorry when its needed. You are always available to guide me, and all of our friends, with open ears and tough love when its needed most. You have become the fertilizer in the garden of our life, encouraging everyone to grow. I’m so proud that you have never been ashamed of your story, but instead shared it widely, with the hope it might inspire someone else to become the best version of themselves. You have certainly inspired me to do so. I love you more than I ever thought I could love anyone, and I want you to know, I see you. I see how hard you work. You set an excellent example of being human. Happy 14th year sobriety birthday, @daxshepard. Xoxo

Dax and the Good Place actress, 38, are not only teaching their girls how to resolve arguments head on but are also teaching them about giving back. The Parenthood alum teamed up with Amazon this holiday season with the help of the e-commerce company’s virtual voice assistant Alexa. Customers are able to donate to a child in need and Shepard starred in an Instagram video for Amazon explaining how to.

“Just say, ‘Alexa, donate to Toys for Tots,’” Shepard explained in an Instagram video. “That’s it! @Amazon will do the rest.”

Shepard also admitted that he has explained to his two daughters that Santa Claus is not a real person. “This is going to be very controversial. I have a fundamental rule that I will never lie to them, which is challenging at times. Our 5-year-old started asking questions like, ‘Well, this doesn’t make sense, and that doesn’t make sense.’ I’m like, ‘You know what? This is just a fun thing we pretend while it’s Christmas.’”

But not to worry, even though Shepard’s girls are aware that Santa is not really coming down their chimney to deliver presents they still love the guy and have the holiday spirit.

“They love watching movies about Santa, they love talking about Santa. They don’t think he exists, but they’re super happy and everything’s fine.”
