Here are some photos from the big CinemaCon event in Las Vegas yesterday. CinemaCon used to be called something else, but the goal is always the same: it’s a chance for big celebrities to come to Vegas and schmooze with theater-chain owners and big-wigs. Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult were all there to schmooze for Mad Max: Fury Road. Tom doesn’t look too pleased, right? Some of the celebrities actually dressed up for this “exclusive presentation” last night, but not Tom. Even Hoult looks like he’s just wearing street clothes too. Still… Tom Hardy is the business. I think it’s the intensity of his gaze. I can tell he doesn’t want to be there, so he’s still giving a dirty gaze to the cameras. Mm… the business.

Meanwhile, people are still talking about Child 44 and how it majorly bombed at the box office for its opening weekend. Child 44 opened worldwide with a debut of… $2 million. That’s in all markets. The film cost $50 million to make, although we can’t really say that the studio spared no expense to promote it. Tom barely promoted it, Gary Oldman was MIA and Noomi Rapace did what she could. Long story short: Tom Hardy can’t open a movie. He can be the best supporting part of a big franchise film, but he can’t open a movie. Yet. I don’t think Tom will have to wear the failure of Child 44… yet. We’ll see what happens with Mad Max box office.

I do feel like Tom could choose better projects too… he doesn’t have to do rom-coms in Hollywood or anything, but he’s considered one of the best actors of his generation, but he just doesn’t pick the best projects.

PS… Charlize’s dress is Alexandre Vauthier.
