Late last year and early this year, Lady Anne Glenconner promoted her second book, and her interviews got a lot of coverage in the royal media. Lady Glenconner was Princess Margaret’s lady-in-waiting, and she has/had a lot of affection for Anne, QEII, Prince Philip and that whole generation of royals. While Lady Anne has pleasant things to say about King Charles, her whole vibe was rather judgmental towards the younger royals, especially (you guessed it) Prince Harry and Meghan. In one interview, Lady Anne suggested that Meghan was disappointed by the lack of glamour in royal life: “One’s own wedding was fantastic, but next day you’re back to normal. I don’t know whether she thought it was going to be all very grand.” Well, Lady Anne appeared on Gyles Brandreth’s podcast, Rosebud, and man, did she have a story.
Speaking on the Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth podcast, Lady Glenconner said: ‘I think the thing about Meghan was, she had no idea what was expected of her really. I think she just thought it was sort of like being another actress, you know. Riding around in a golden coach and everything like that. And actually, being a member of the Royal Family – a lot of it is extremely boring.’
Lady Glenconner said members of the Royal Family are expected to meet thousands of people and to say something interesting and nice to each person.
Discussing the King’s Coronation, Lady Glenconner said she sat next to American politician John Kerry, 79.
The socialite, born Anne Tennant, said she asked him: ‘What do you think in America about Harry and Meghan?’.
She continued: ‘He said “We all feel very, very sorry for Harry. I think I can just leave it at that.”‘
Not this ancient biddy getting John Kerry canceled! Oh my god!! So, the first thing I did was look through the photo agencies to see if John Kerry actually attended the coronation. There are no photos of him (that I could find), but he was there – he tweeted some sh-t about how privileged he felt getting to witness the coronation in person. Kerry is President Biden’s Special Envoy for Climate, and considering Biden skipped the coronation, I assume Kerry was part of the small American delegation, which also included First Lady Jill Biden (who was shuffled off, rows and rows behind the action). All of which to say, it’s possible that Kerry did speak to Lady Anne and it’s even possible he said exactly this. Maybe Kerry is not a fan of the Duchess of Sussex. Go ahead, Sussex Squad – cancel his ass!!
As for the substance of Lady Anne’s repetitive bullsh-t about how Meghan thought she would be riding in carriages all the time – literally, all Meghan wanted to do is be with the man she loves and do charity work. That’s all. Meghan was living in dilapidated shacks and crummy government housing, all because she loved the f–k out of Harry. Meghan didn’t have delusions of grandeur and this stupid f–king talking point needs to be retired (as does Lady Anne).
Update: The Daily Beast got the State Dept to issue a statement in reaction to Lady Anne’s story, omfg. The spokesperson said: “Secretary Kerry does not remember being asked that question, but as a father in the public eye himself, he has nothing but empathy for people working through a family matter who all deserve privacy and compassion.”
