I know Jonathan Tucker from the excellent scifi show Debris, which was canceled by NBC in 2021 after one season. Obviously I’m still salty about it. When the show was airing I covered an interview with the showrunner, J.H. Wyman, who praised Tucker as a consummate actor and professional. He said “there’s not a false bone in [Tucker’s] body.” It wasn’t surprising to me as he’s captivating on screen. He’s also been on Parenthood, Justified, Kingdom and Westworld. Not only do Tucker’s bosses love him, his neighbors do too and for good reason. On Sunday, Tucker heard his neighbors in Los Angeles screaming when a stranger entered their home. He immediately ran over there, barefoot, and helped them get out of the house. He was seen carrying one of their three children out.
Jonathan Tucker is being hailed a hero after he sprung into action to save a family in the middle of a home invasion.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department tells ET that a call came in at around 6:20 p.m. on Sunday in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Hancock Park. Police say a suspect entered the location.
Soon after, the Kingdom actor stepped in. In security footage obtained by KTLA, Tucker is seen storming into the home barefoot after hearing a woman screaming. The homeowner was not home at the time, but his wife and three daughters were inside when the suspect entered the home.
Moments later, cell phone video footage shows the family escaping through the back of the house, and Tucker could also be seen carrying one child. Security footage shows armed police arriving at the home, where there was a brief standoff before they eventually made their way inside the home. KTLA reports the man was found hiding in the closet and he was taken into custody without incident.
Following a Code 4, Tucker could be heard on video thanking LAPD for their swift response.
Thank goodness the police arrived quickly and the suspect wasn’t armed. If you watch the KTLA news clip below, the neighbor whose home was breached said “Tucker’s great, he’s block security. He makes sure everything is under control and I think he was tracking him for a while. An hour, hour and a half.” It sounds like the man who entered their home was having a mental health crisis. The intruder was seen talking to himself on their ring camera before he opened the front door. The twist to this story is that the people whose home he entered own a mental health facility, according to KCAL, and “they’ve actually offered to house him at their facility.”
This is scary but it has a happy ending. It also makes me want to see Jonathan Tucker in more shows. IMDB reminds me that he was in that wild Netflix series, Echoes, with Michelle Monaghan and Matt Bomer. I watched two episodes of that, turned it off and looked up spoilers. It was about identical twins, both played by Monaghan, who switched lives. It was so over the top and ridiculous. (Some of the photos in this post are stills from that show.) Hopefully we’ll see Tucker, 42, more often after this. He’s not only valiant and handsome, he can ACT.
