Did y’all know that Demi Lovato is engaged? I don’t know if I knew that information but forgot about it or if I just learned this right now. Demi and Canadian musician Jordan “Jutes” Lutes got engaged right before Christmas. Demi gave an interview to People, which is out in the most recent issue. In the interview, she (Demi uses she/they pronouns now) talks about her style and beauty routine, revealing that she’s a new spokesperson for Xeomin. Xeomin is basically a Botox alternative, using injections to reduce those forehead frown lines. Demi keeps up with the treatments by getting injected every three months.

On making choices to “look and feel” good: “I’ve always believed in making choices that are empowering, [keep you] true to yourself and help you look and feel your best,” the star tells PEOPLE in a candid sit-down discussing their new partnership. “I’ve incorporated Xeomin into my routine every three months, and it gives me the results I want while still looking like myself. There are times I like to get glam and times when I don’t like to wear makeup at all, and this gives me the confidence for both.”

On not “gatekeeping” her beauty routine: “I’m always transparent with my fans, and this is something I wanted to share. It normalizes it and takes the taboo away from injectables,” she says. “It’s all about what makes you feel like your best self. Don’t listen to naysayers. Do what makes you feel comfortable.

On her pre-wedding beauty regimen: “I use Renée Rouleau skin-care products and Xeomin,” Lovato says, adding that she gets injections about every three months for the best results. “I’ve also been growing my hair out. I don’t know what it will look like for the wedding, but hopefully it’s longer and still the same color.”

Her go-to style: “I love a good sweatsuit and a very minimal makeup look,” she says. “Just tinted moisturizer, a little blush, concealer and brow gel, and I’m good to go.”

Some beauty advice: “I never sleep in my makeup. It doesn’t matter how late the night goes, it doesn’t matter if I’m up until the morning, I take my makeup off and I do my skincare routine and I’m very diligent about it.”

[From People]

Hey, if Xeomin injections make Demi happy, then good for them. I think it’s great that they’re being transparent, but would also respect it if Demi didn’t feel like sharing. I’m a big believer that we’re all on our own personal journeys to feel good about ourselves. I’ve never considered getting Botox injections but I do get my roots touched up every six-eight weeks because I have dark hair and feel self-conscious about my grays. I don’t see a difference in the fundamental reasoning behind doing either one.

As for the rest of what Demi said, she’s totally right about taking your makeup off before going to bed. I try to wash my face when I get home because I’m usually too tired to do it right before bedtime. I also tend to live in leggings and comfy clothes nowadays because the Covid lockdowns ruined jeans for me. Comfy pants for life! Anyway, congrats to Demi and Jutes. I know that Demi has had a lot of challenges to overcome, and I do wish them all the best.

Did Kylie Jenner & Timothee Chalamet break up? They were together at the Golden Globes in January, sitting together during the show and looking loved up on camera. Did that all fall apart in the past two months? Probably not, but some of Kylie’s “fans” think so. Kylie’s fans have been paying attention to how often she posts on TikTok and social media, and how Timmy is never part of any of her socials. They also think she’s doing single-lady thirst traps.

Kylie Jenner has possibly shared another clue that she and Timothee Chalamet may have recently split. The Hulu star shared another TikTok to show her morning routine without Timothee, 28, anywhere in sight. Kylie, 26, has been sharing more glimpses into her daily life, even joking that she “posted this for 3rd time” in her caption.

With Kylie uploading more solo videos of her daily routine, fans have been speculating the reality star has split from her boyfriend of nearly a year. After months of fan speculation, the two A-list stars confirmed their relationship at a Beyonce concert in September 2023 by showing off some major PDA. They later attended the US Open together and the Golden Globe Awards back in January, showing major PDA while the cameras were on them.

On Reddit, fans believed Kylie’s new video was possibly a “soft launch” of her recent breakup with the Wonka star.

“Soft launch breakup coming???” one person asked alongside screenshots of an article about Kylie’s TikTok.

“Yes and talking about how she’s ‘thriving’ all on her own like she doesn’t need a man,” a second noted.

Another insinuated that Kylie is now single, saying she keeps posting “thirst traps.”

[From The Sun]

While any of this could be true, I feel like Kylie has played it really safe when it comes to Chalamet – she shows up to his events and never makes it “the Kylie Show,” skips the red carpets and just plays the dutiful WAG around his colleagues. She doesn’t put Timothee on her socials because she doesn’t need to? She uses her socials to promote herself and her businesses. That’s been her whole deal for years (although, admittedly, Travis Scott used to appear on her socials). I guess what I’m saying is that I believe they’re still together. While Timmy isn’t scheduled to present at the Oscars, I kind of wonder if he’ll be in town to party. I could totally see Timothee and Kylie hitting up the Oscar parties together.

The “Hotel California” lyric pages case may be over, but I’m still here for your eagles coverage fix! Haliaeetus leucocephalus, that is. Meet Jackie and Shadow, American Bald Eagle prospective parents in California, who have captured the hearts of thousands tuning in to their YouTube channel. Conservation group Friends of Big Bear Valley set up a live camera back in the fall of 2021, and recently the main programming has been tracking Jackie as she laid three eggs in late January, and the ensuing pip watch that began a month later. What has really kept viewers returning, though, is how the couple repeatedly fight over who gets to sit on the eggs. May all expecting parents have a partner so dedicated.

“After her full nights on the eggs, Jackie sometimes calls for Shadow in the early dawn. Shadow instantly comes in to take over…but the past few days he has been more stubborn than ever about refusing to leave when Jackie returns,” the organization shared in a Sunday update posted on Facebook.

“On Thursday when Shadow arrived with fluff, Jackie quickly let him take over,” the organization continued. “An hour later, she returned and announced her presence…and Shadow immediately argued.”

Friends of Big Bear Valley noted that the two birds began to fight as Jackie “bit Shadow on the beak” and after a while, he eventually gave in and she took over. From there, the organization joked that the female bald eagle “played hardball” as she refused to leave the eggs for several hours.

However, the two birds fought again the next day over who would keep the eggs safe with Jackie waiting “almost 10 minutes before Shadow would leave” after taking a Friday morning break.

The organization noted that Jackie bit his beak again and “tried gentle beak poking” — both of which were ignored by Shadow — before she finally “had to push her weight around by laying on him to get him to move.”

This continued for the next several days, and the birds’ antics even brought in more than 30,000 viewers, who tuned in to watch the live cam on the nest on Monday, according to KTLA.

Despite all the bickering between the two birds, the organization previously noted in a Feb. 13 Facebook post that it’s all out of love.

“Jackie has been pretty patient and understanding of his love of incubation, so she usually gives him a little extra time on the eggs,” Friends of Big Bear Valley said. “When she thinks ‘okay that’s enough’, she gives a gentle love nibble or nudge, or a sweet beak kiss to soften him up a bit before he gets up and ready to leave. Then, of course, she moves in quickly on the eggs!”

However, the organization said the pair of birds also adhere to a set of rules, including that Jackie is the one who will mainly preside over the nest, especially during harsh weather. During a February storm, Jackie watched over the nest for a whopping 62 hours, according to CBS News.

[From People]

Wow. I can’t think of the last time a man brought me fluff. Take out all the eagle-specific language, and everything Jackie does to keep Shadow in line holds up for our human relationships. Announce your presence? Check. Play hardball? Check. Ultimately win the argument by laying on top of your partner until they move? Check plus. And is it just me, or does “gentle beak poking” sound like something Will and Kate absolutely get up to?

I’ve spent all afternoon pretending to work while watching the live stream of Jackie and Shadow sit on the eggs. In some ways it’s not exactly riveting — a lack of plot will do that — and yet I can’t take my eyes off of them. As of this writing, none of the eggs have hatched and there are serious concerns that it may be too late for Egg 1 (which was laid on January 25). People are so freaked out that Egg 1 has missed the window that the executive director of the organization posted a message last night, urging everyone to take deep breaths and try to remain calm. “Watching nature builds our patience, our strength, our compassion and our resilience.” Gosh I hope there’s some happy news to tweet about soon. I mean sure Jackie and Shadow have their squawks, but they’re good eagles and have been doing everything right to bring their clutch into the world.

Gary Goldsmith continues to terrorize British airwaves on Celebrity Big Brother. It’s clear that, despite the Middletons’ performative freakout, Gary has been given official talking points. He’s not saying anything that you wouldn’t hear from any rota reporter or royalist commentator. He’s just saying it in a sleazy, tacky way on a reality show, whilst bashing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for “selling out” the royal family. Anyway, here are some assorted comments from Gary:

Gary on the Goldsmith family: “Humble stock. Dad was a painter and decorator. Mum was an accounts clerk, so they worked hard. But Carole and I were both ‘multi’ before we were 30. Multi-millionaires. That’s why I get really a bit narky when they say Kate’s a commoner. There’s nothing common about the family, nothing.”

His politics: He claimed the world “is a safe place” with Donald Trump in it as he revealed his political affiliations. During a conversation with Fern Britton, he praised the former US president for his “willingness to press the button” and is a “genuine threat to Putin and Kim Jong-Un.” The businessman also said he is a “Tory at heart” and believed Boris Johnson “was doing a pretty good job in a very difficult circumstance” in Downing Street.

Harry should be stripped of his titles: “I genuinely think they should take the titles away.”

How Kate is doing: “Because she doesn’t want to talk about it, the last thing I’m going to do is [talk about it]. There is a kind of code or etiquette. If it’s announced, I’ll give you an opinion.” he said he has spoken to both Kate’s mom, Carole Middleton, and sister, Pippa Middleton, and confirmed she is getting the “best care in the world” as she recovers. “All the family has put the wagons down and [are looking] after the family first before anything else, They said, ‘She’s going to take some time to recoup and we’ll see you at Easter.’”

[From Us Weekly, Hello, GB News & The Independent]

Surprise surprise, Gary and the Middletons are political right-wingers. It fits – the lying, the scheming, the racism, the tackiness, the lack of money. I saw the clip of Gary talking about Kate and yeah, he was delivering talking points. What a mess. Also: if Carole Middleton is a multimillionaire, shouldn’t she pay the millions she owes to vendors, the banks and the government when Party Pieces collapsed?

Meanwhile, people are still outraged that a convicted domestic abuser like Gary gets free rein to appear on a reality show. Domestic violence activists have started making a lot of noise:

The Princess of Wales’ uncle could become the first celebrity to be evicted from the Big Brother house, it emerged on Wednesday, as domestic abuse campaigners criticised his inclusion in the show. Gary Goldsmith, 58, who was convicted of attacking his wife in 2017, was singled out to face the public vote by fellow housemate Sharon Osborne.

It came as Women’s Aid issued a statement warning that the decision to allow him to take part suggested that his crime had not been taken seriously. A spokesman said: “The decision to include a man who has been charged, and pleaded guilty to, assaulting his wife, in the Celebrity Big Brother house demonstrates the lack of awareness that the production team has when it comes to survivors of domestic abuse. The producers should consider how Gary Goldsmith’s appearance will impact women who have survived domestic abuse and how they will feel watching him on TV every night.”

The charity urged producers to consider how they approach the issue, adding: “For many survivors of abuse, the inclusion of men convicted of abuse in entertainment programmes will already be a sign that these crimes are not taken seriously – the entertainment industry has to consider the impact on women of who they give a platform to and derive entertainment value from.”

[From The Telegraph]

Yep – the show is platforming a convicted domestic abuser and violent lout, all because of his connection to the Windsors and his willingness to recite the palace’s talking points.

Over the past week, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Camilla will “lead” the royal contingent on Commonwealth Day (next Monday), Camilla will be the first consort to hand out “Maundy money” just before Easter, and Camilla will likely be sent to France for the D-Day 80th anniversary events in June. BP is making it clear that Camilla is stepping up for the king in place of the heir. I have assumed this whole time that BP has approached Prince William about some or all of these events, only to be told that William refuses to do this or that. But now the Mail’s Ephraim Hardcastle column claims that William hasn’t been asked.

Has William’s nose been put out of joint by King Charles’s reliance on Queen Camilla deputising for him while he recovers from cancer? In addition to presenting the Royal Maundy she will take centre stage at the Commonwealth Day events on Monday.

Provisional plans have been made for her to represent him at the Chelsea Flower Show, the D-Day 80th anniversary commemorations, Garter Day, Royal Ascot and Trooping the Colour.

William has apparently indicated his willingness to help but hasn’t yet been called upon. The long tradition of monarchs being wary of their heirs continues.

[From The Daily Mail]

Yeah… if true, this isn’t just wariness between the sovereign and heir, it’s wariness between the two royal courts. We know Charles is unwilling to be direct with William – lest William throw a violent tantrum – so this BP’s staffers understanding that Kensington Palace is a clownshow and they don’t have their schedule in order. Plus, William has made such a big f–king deal about how HE needs time off to look after Kate and the children, and just this week, he threw another tantrum because the Ministry of Defense dared to suggest that Kate would be ready to work in JUNE. Basically… I don’t believe that it’s going down as “Hardcastle” suggests, with William waiting for his father to ask him to take on these events. This is William being jealous that all of these events are being handed to Camilla after he turned them down or told his father he couldn’t confirm anything.

I’ve noticed some confusion about the timeline for this very gross Cyrus family drama, so let’s back up for a second and really go through it. In the spring of 2023, a newly-divorced Tsh Cyrus jumped into a relationship with Dominic Purcell and they quickly announced their engagement at the end of April 2023. Their wedding was held in August 2023, and half of the Cyrus kids did not go to the wedding. Noah Cyrus kind of made a big deal about NOT going to her mom’s wedding, but we didn’t really know what was up until recently. Then, last week, the rumors and reports started coming out: before Tish and Dominic got together last spring, Dominic was hooking up with Noah Cyrus, Tish’s now-24-year-old daughter (Noah would have been 22-ish when she hooked up with Dominic). Soon after that news came out (in People Magazine!), people close to Miley Cyrus swore that Miley had “no idea” about Noah and Dominic, but Miley just wants Tish to be happy. Now Us Weekly’s sources claim that Miley actually knew about Noah and Dominic’s thing. Ugh.

Miley Cyrus was “fully aware” of her sister Noah Cyrus’s relationship with Dominic Purcell before Tish Cyrus entered the picture, a source exclusively reveals in the latest issue of Us Weekly. Miley, 31, “absolutely knew” Noah, 24, was dating Purcell, 54, when their mother, Tish, 56, started pursuing the actor, according to multiple sources. Contrary to recent reports, a second source tells Us that Noah “was not Dominic’s ex” when Tish began dating the Prison Break alum in 2022. “They were seeing each other when he started dating Tish,” the insider says.

Despite knowing the truth, the first source claims that Miley “took her mom’s side” and did “everything in her power” to keep Noah from crashing Tish and Purcell’s August 2023 wedding.

However, a third source tells Us that Miley tried to stay out of the family drama, but her strong bond with Tish won out. “Miley believes [the family rift is] beyond repair at this time,” the insider explains. “Miley’s devastated her family’s been torn apart.”

At this point, Noah “refuses to communicate” with her sister, and Tish is “not open to any reconciliation” with Noah, the source adds.

Rumblings of a Cyrus family feud began in summer 2023 when Noah and brother Braison Cyrus were noticeably absent from Tish’s Malibu wedding. (Tish shares Miley, Braison, 29, and Noah with ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus. Tish is also mom to Brandi, 36, and Trace, 35, from a previous marriage.) During Tish’s wedding weekend, Noah was spotted wearing a T-shirt with her dad’s face on it at Walmart, leading some fans to speculate she was Team Billy Ray after his 2022 divorce from Tish. However, a separate source exclusively told Us in February that Noah was not invited to Tish’s nuptials after friction over Purcell.

“The turmoil between Noah and Tish goes far beyond [what people think],” the insider said, claiming, “Noah is very distraught over Tish stealing Dominic from her.” Tish “was aware” of Noah’s involvement with the actor, according to the source. Noah and Purcell were together for “about 8 to 9 months” but were “having issues” when Tish entered the picture, another insider told Us last month.

Relationship woes or not, Tish’s romance with Purcell has caused a rift between Tish and Noah, who “haven’t spoken since the whole thing happened with Dominic,” the insider said.

[From Us Weekly]

HOLY SH-T. This is one of the biggest celebrity-family messes I’ve seen in a long time. Noah and Dominic were not just casually hooking up, they had a nine month relationship and Tish got involved with Dominic when he was still technically seeing Noah? And not only that, Miley knew about all of it and took her mother’s side? There’s also no question, at this point, that Tish knew exactly what she was doing and that Noah and Dominic were together. Even the Tish-friendly sources are admitting that, and Tish’s version is basically that she saw Dominic first (back when she was married to Billy Ray) and she got in touch with him when she was ready to date again, knowing that he was with Noah. Not only that, Us Weekly’s sources also say that TISH is “not open to any reconciliation” with NOAH. Tish got with her daughter’s man, married that man and then disowned the daughter. This hillbilly soap opera, my god.

The drama is ON over at Queer Eye, and it’s all happening off camera! Hot on the heels of Netflix announcing that Jeremiah Brent would replace Bobby Berk as resident interior designer, Rolling Stone has published a deep dive into all the workplace fractures that led to this moment. Production sources pretty much singled out Jonathan Van Ness. Van Ness — whom Rolling Stone cited as using they/he/she pronouns; all pronouns excerpted below appear as printed in the article — provides the beauty & hairstyling expertise, and is arguably the show’s biggest breakout star personality. But it seems that luxuriously coiffed veneer has been hiding a short-tempered diva. Dun Dun DUN!

Boy band energy: “It’s not a new story that a boy band falls apart,” says one Queer Eye production member, who, like the others, requested anonymity, citing NDAs and career repercussions. “Essentially they were a group of people put together in their mid-thirties and told to be best friends. … That’s truly what it was: a manufactured boy band with big personalities that certain ones were favored and certain ones were not, and then eventually [things] turned really toxic.”

Sounds like Van Ness has some anger issues: Four Queer Eye production sources and three sources who worked with Van Ness said the reality star was terrible to work with, using words like “monster,” “nightmare,” and “demeaning” to describe them. Three people labeled Van Ness as emotionally “abusive” and having “rage issues,” and all seven sources said the star would lash out at crew members and people who worked closely with Van Ness. “[There’s] a real emotion of fear around them when they get angry. It’s almost like a cartoon where it oozes out of them,” one source who worked with Van Ness explains. “It’s intense and scary.”

The daily yell: “Jonathan’s a person who contains multitudes and who has the capacity to be very warm, very charismatic, and has the capacity to make you feel really special that they are paying attention to you,” one source who worked with Van Ness explains. “But at least once a day, they would need to yell at somebody. It might be something small, but there’s always going to be somebody to point out and blame and make the villain of the day.” … Other members could also be difficult at moments, but Van Ness stood out in terms of unprofessionalism, with his various moods dictating how the day would go, two sources say.

No real consequences: Netflix executives had at least one meeting with Van Ness over her behavior and treatment of the crew, two sources with knowledge tell Rolling Stone. Yet it seemed to result in little change, sources claim. “The apparatus of [the show’s production company] ITV and Netflix promotes Jonathan and actively rewards them for their bad behavior,” one of those sources adds. “There’s no accountability at all,” a third person who has worked with Van Ness says.

Shooting Season 8 in New Orleans was brutal: The schedule itself was intensive, filming from June to September with little downtime in humid temperatures. Crew members considered unionizing over alleged construction and safety issues due to rushed renovations, according to one show source. … And there were serious safety issues after assailants carjacked a production vehicle, yanking a production assistant from a SUV and taking off in her car, according to show sources and The Hollywood Reporter. Filming was halted for two days, and ITV hired additional security after the Fab Five threatened to walk away from the shoot if everyone’s safety wasn’t prioritized. … It all seemed like the perfect time to wind the series down. “After New Orleans, everyone was like, ‘I think we’re gonna end it,’” one production source recalls.

[From Rolling Stone]

Oh my goodness, Netflix should totally release a special The Making of Queer Eye Season 8: Big Struggle in the Big Easy. And applause to the executive producers for approving the transplant of five fiery personalities, plus an entire production crew, into a Gulf state… in the summer. There’s no tense situation that can’t be improved with humility humidity. No really, I went to NoLa in early May once and we were so hot and sticky that we voluntarily paid to see Alien: Covenant in a theater. Just to get into that AC!

As for Van Ness, am I surprised? No. But I’m still disappointed. Come on Jonathan, it takes more energy to throw a tantrum and make coworkers’ lives miserable than it does to treat people with kindness and respect. If I were Brent I would be checking with my lawyers right now to see if I had any wiggle room to back out.

It’s sort of going unnoticed because all of the royal stories are so bonkers lately, but People Magazine’s cover story this week is a pretty big swing. This is People Mag, the Windsors’ favorite American media outlet, the outlet specifically designed to parrot the palace’s talking points, actually criticizing the royal clownshow. People Mag got royal experts and royal skeptics on the record about how King Charles and the Princess of Wales have a duty to disclose much more about their dual illnesses. They also got William’s spokesperson on the record, arrogantly declaring that William’s “focus is on his work, not on social media.” All evidence to the contrary. Even the haphazard photo-op with Kate and Carole in an Audi on Monday didn’t sway People Magazine from running really pointed criticism of the chaotic messaging, the misinformation, the arrogance permeating through royal communications these days. Speaking of, People dropped another piece, specifically about Kate:

When Prince William abruptly pulled out of a planned outing to his godfather King Constantine of Greece’s memorial service on Feb. 27, concerns surrounding Kate Middleton’s health following abdominal surgery reached a fever pitch.

Despite the palace’s brief comment stating that the Princess of Wales, 42, “continues to be doing well” in her recovery, and her recent sighting during a car ride with her mother, Carole Middleton, this week, one palace insider describes the overall lack of information as complete “radio silence” regarding her condition.

Kensington Palace revealed on Jan. 17 that Princess Kate underwent a “planned” abdominal procedure the previous day without giving further information on the cause, noting the royal’s “wish that her personal medical information remains private.” They did note that the issue was non-cancerous and that Kate wasn’t expected to return to public royal duties until after Easter.

However, the lack of clarity about what led to the Princess of Wales’ abdominal surgery left a vacuum that has been filled with numerous conspiracy theories regarding her health and whereabouts. In response to this speculation, a spokesman reiterated on Feb. 29 that Kate would not be resuming public engagements until after Easter.

Still, Princess Kate’s presence is sorely missed, and Prince William has regularly received well wishes for his wife during his recent royal engagements.

“She is their MVP, without any doubt,” royal historian Amanda Foreman tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s cover story. “She is in so many ways the most like the late Queen.”

Adds royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, “She’s so central to the monarchy and the future.”

Princess Kate’s absence is exacerbated by King Charles also being largely out of the public eye as he receives cancer treatment. Similar to his daughter-in-law’s health, there have been few updates about the King’s condition.

“Everybody feels unsettled by uncertainty, and there is too much uncertainty that is surrounding the monarchy right now,” Bedell Smith tells PEOPLE.

“Queen Elizabeth used to say, ‘I need to be seen to be believed.’ It is important for Charles and his reign for the public to know a little bit more,” she adds.

[From People]

“Radio silence” is correct – Kensington Palace’s incompetent communications have made the situation so much worse. I don’t feel bad about all of the (crazy) conspiracies which have popped up in the past two months because they are the result of the amateurish, inept and downright clumsy Kensington Palace operation. None of this has inspired any confidence in William and Kate’s leadership in a crisis or any other time – they can’t problem-solve their way out of a wet paper bag. And even now, after global criticism for their two months of bungling, you know William refuses to change tack. It’s like the Caribbean Flop Tour all over again, only this time Kate was missing for 70 days and William is visibly drunk during daytime events.

Also: William’s not going to like that all of these people are talking about how Kate is the monarchy’s greatest asset.

Before now, Jodie Turner Smith had not given any interviews following her sudden decision to file for divorce from Joshua Jackson last fall. She kept it clean – no social media games, no immaturity, no drama. She filed, lawyered up, stayed off social media and whatever is happening between them, there doesn’t seem to be anything spilling out in public. Well, Jodie is currently promoting several projects, all while working on Tro: Ares in Canada. She recently chatted with the Sunday Times about life, motherhood, work and divorce. She’s either become the most mature person in the world or she listened carefully to what her publicist told her to say about her divorce. Some highlights:

She’s booked & busy: “I feel like the world is my oyster. I’m pinching myself, it’s insane! I really love what I do. It excites me, it thrills me, it fulfils me. And I feel like there’s only more to come from it. All I want is to grow, get better, to learn from what I’ve done and to constantly move. And all the while make sure that I’m looking after myself and everyone around me.”

On parenting: “The most important thing, like in any relationship, is boundaries. I love how strong my daughter’s personality is and I don’t want to crush any part of that, but at the same time I want to teach her how to have respect for herself and for others. Everything really is for her. Women are always taught that we’re second class in so many ways, especially once we become mothers. You’re treated as if you now have limitations and it’s like, no, I’ve just done this amazing thing [giving birth] that shows me I’m actually one of the most amazing beings to ever walk the earth! And you’re treating me like I’m less?! Motherhood makes me more powerful. Now I know I am capable of so much, because I became a mother. Thank God I became a mother! Not only has it been revealed to me exactly how powerful I am, but it has also been revealed to me that I deserve the world.”

On her divorce from Joshua Jackson: “Sometimes things we really want to work just don’t end up working. And that’s OK. The most important thing is that you choose what’s healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children. There are so many different moments in our life where we look at ourselves and say, ‘Who am I and am I being true to that?’ If the answer is no, then you have to make a move because I believe that there are visible scars from staying in places that are not good for us. And they don’t just affect us, they affect everybody around us. I don’t think it’s a failure. We obviously had such a beautiful moment together. And now it’s time for a new moment for both of us. And how exciting! The bravest thing in the world is to recognise when something’s not working and to make a move, and I always want to set that kind of example for my daughter. The big takeaway is that this is about just as much love and joy as it has always been. This is only about taking a step forward into a better life for everybody involved.”

She’s not listening to the constant chatter online. “I’m not out here responding to everything that people say and people’s opinions because that’s a losing battle. At the end of the day I am not the only person in the world going through a divorce. There are millions of people in the world who are going through what I’m going through and that’s something that’s amazing about the internet, that sometimes it can offer you community.”

Single motherhood: She’s not on the lookout for another relationship, in case you were wondering. “I am a single mother and it is incredible. Right now is a sensitive time, the time for me to be focused on her. I’m enjoying not having to focus on a man. Men take up a lot of space!”

Her early days as a model: “Back then, if you were a black model you really needed to have an agent and an agency, and you needed to work very hard. It was much harder to get work. I was so f***ing thin and I was still being told by agencies in LA that I should think about getting lipo on my legs. I was 22 and tiny! Instagram has really changed things because people can be their own agencies in a way. We have so much more inclusivity now. Models with disabilities, models that have vitiligo, size inclusivity — it’s just better.”

[From The Times]

“The bravest thing in the world is to recognise when something’s not working and to make a move.” I agree that it’s brave to say “I’m not happy here” and figure out a way to get out of the situation. It sort of reminds me of Adele’s marriage and divorce – no one really knew why she and Simon split, like there wasn’t one really obvious “reason,” and then Adele made it clear that she was unhappy in the marriage. Of course, I think it was probably more complicated in Jodie and Joshua’s case, but again, I’m impressed with the way Jodie has handled everything for months and how she’s handling it here.
