Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse rarely do events together or walk red carpets together. Even though they’ve been dating for years (something like four or five years, I believe), there are only a handful of photos of them together at an event, and paparazzi photos of them together only happen every six months or so. So, the Met Gala was a very special occasion for them, it seems. I don’t know if Rob didn’t know or didn’t care that he might run into two of his most high-profile exes, but it’s funny that he walked the carpet around the same time as Kristen Stewart and FKA Twigs. God, I would love to know if he spoke to either of them. As for Suki, she wore a vintage Fendi look.
Kristen Stewart was a longtime Chanel model and brand ambassador, even though the partnership never really fit. Apparently, Karl Lagerfeld did like her a lot, for what it’s worth. She wore Chanel and posed with Sofia Coppola, Marion Cotillard and Charlotte Casiraghi on the carpet (all were in Chanel).
FKA Twigs wore Maison Margiela. It’s a nice look, but I would have expected her to lean into the theme a lot more.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Margot Robbie in a gown where she especially stands out. She usually looks very pretty yet unremarkable and I think that’s intentional. I also think that’s why she’s going to kill it as Barbie, I’m so looking forward to that movie. Margot was in a Chanel gown from 1993 featuring a clear bodice with beaded boning. (Update: Cindy Crawford originally wore this gown. Thanks Mellie!) This is nice, it’s not fabulous. That’s very much her vibe and there’s nothing wrong with that. Her makeup and hair are so pretty and understated.
Elle Fanning was in Vivienne Westwood. She said her flower crown was a nod to Lagerfeld, who chose a flower crown for her on one of their shoots together. She also had on a Cartier necklace worn by Grace Kelly in 1995 and said she was at the Cartier table. I liked this boho interpretation of Lagerfeld’s work.
Michelle Yeoh was wearing a voluminous Karl Lagerfeld gown and she looked very much the movie star that she is. At one point Pete Davidson posed with her (he was in Fendi) and people were raising eyebrows over that, but she looked like she was just being gracious with him.
Allison Williams was in Nina Ricci and I really like this gown. It reminds me a little of Charlize Theron’s 2006 Oscar gown, which was by Galliano although Lagerfeld did some giant one shoulder gowns too.
Ashley Graham was also in Nina Ricci. This is very 80s and fun. You can tell she’s a model whenever she’s on a carpet.
I was looking through Michael Kors’ looks at the previous Met Galas and he’s usually quite good. Ciara wore a zebra print MK gown last year that was amazing and at the fall 2021 Met Gala Regina King had on a pinstriped dress that I loved. He dressed Emily Blunt in 2019 in a scalloped sequin gold gown that I inexplicably liked back then, re-reading what I wrote about it. I think I was tired and being generous. Kors’s designs can definitely be goofy though, like this year when he put Blunt in a lace and black metallic pantsuit with a train. The topper is that ridiculous bow with the flower tacked on to it. I get that the bows were a nod to Lagerfeld, but there were so many fug interpretations of that! Poor Emily, but it’s not like she has great fashion typically so I suspect she was OK with it. During their red carpet interview with Vogue, Kors told an anecdote about Lagerfeld asking him why he’s always so tan. He said he gets out on the sun whenever he can! There’s got to be a lot of makeup involved too.
Kerry Washington got the better MK look, although that bar is low. She was in a lace and tulle fishtail gown with a bandeau top and a tuxedo jacket.
Also in Michael Kors were Lea Michele, Vanessa Hudgens, Camilla Marrone and Kaitlyn Dever. Vanessa , Lea and Kaitlyn were interviewed by La La Anthony and Lea told La La she lived in her old house in New York City and that she gets packages for La La every day. I wonder if they arranged to meet up afterwards for an exchange. My favorite gown out of this group was Vanessa Hudgens’s, but I usually like what she’s wearing.
Today is Princess Charlotte’s eighth birthday. Her mother, the Princess of Wales, did a photoshoot with Charlotte in the past week in Windsor, and this photo was released on Monday. It made the cover of most of the British papers and tabloids, so I think Kate released it to the press early. Unlike Louis’s birthday pics this year, Kate didn’t hire an outside photographer, she snapped this one herself. Curious.
Anyway, Charlotte is perfectly cute. I appreciate the fact that this photo isn’t filtered to hell and back – one of the birthday photos in years past was filtered, and it was such an odd thing to do to a kid’s pic. Please don’t argue in the comments about who Charlotte takes after, for the love of God. We’ll see Charlotte at her grandfather’s coronation on Saturday, although she does not have a formal role as a page, she is expected to be front-and-center with her parents.
Meanwhile, there was a sighting of Kate, Charlotte and Charlotte’s friends over the weekend – Kate apparently took a gaggle of little girls to the Saturday performance of Cinderella at the Royal Opera House in London. It was performed by the Royal Ballet and National Ballet of Canada.

No joke, one of my favorite things about this year’s Met Gala theme was seeing how other designers interpreted Karl Lagerfeld’s work and aesthetic. Certain designers phoned it in, others killed it. Sabato De Sarno is the new creative director of Gucci (appointed late last year) and he dressed a lot of people at this year’s gala, and the looks were so interesting! The best of the Gucci girls, in my opinion, was Jessica Chastain. No one knows if she wore a blond wig or if she really blonded her famous red hair, but the color is perfect. She also wore sunglasses (like Lagerfeld) and her makeup was so good. The effect was perfect.
Julia Garner recently scored a Gucci ambassadorship. I loved the velvet cape, perfectly structured in the shoulders, with the pink on the other side. The satin dress is a perfect homage to Lagerfeld too.
Here’s Julia posting with Halle Bailey and Daily Edgar-Jones, all in Gucci. Daisy’s dress surprised me!
Salma Hayek in Gucci – I love the lace, ruffles, tulle and pearl combo. A great interpretation.
Florence Pugh had a shaved head at last night’s Met Gala and wore a Valentino white gown featuring a poorly designed bodice with a dippy chiffon bow across the bust. She topped it off with a giant black feather crown. How does Valentino get it so wrong for Florence so often? Their fashion typically baffles me but they have great shoes and purses, I’ll give them that. Florence represents Valentino and she was there with designer Pierpaolo Piccioli.
The train was really cool though.
Speaking of dippy bows here’s Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz in Valentino. I’m sure they’re fine, but in so many photos he looks massively into her and she looks like she’s barely tolerating him. I love her jewelry it’s very on theme!
Stephanie Hsu was in a black sequin Valentino gown with a little lapel and tie in honor of Karl! It has pockets too. This is cute and her makeup is great too.
Viola Davis was in a fuchsia Valentino featuring a feather fan bust and a long train. This is very Vegas but it’s not bad.
Look at Pedro Pascal! I love that he’s there and I feel like he’s a fashion icon now basically. This isn’t the best but Pedro could wear anything.
Priyanka Chopra looked regal and I think she and Stephanie Hsu got the best of the Valentino gowns. People give Priyanka and Nick grief for their age difference but Nick knows how lucky he is.
Jennifer Lopez attended this year’s Met Gala, and I don’t think Ben went with her? One year, Ben did go to the gala but J.Lo walked the carpet solo, but it doesn’t appear that they did the same thing this year. J.Lo wore this Ralph Lauren look and… no. It fell flat. I mean, her body looks amazing and I like the idea of the design more than the execution.
Dua Lipa was one of the co-chairs of this year’s Met Gala, which basically means that Anna Wintour likely had to approve of Dua’s look. Dua chose a vintage 1992 Chanel (bridal) gown and paired it with giant diamonds from Tiffany & Co. The look was, overall, not really a serve. I mean, it’s vintage Chanel, it’s fine, but the effect was very… prairie/prom/bridal and I’m not sure that was what she wanted.
Roger Federer and his wife Mirka – Roger was one of the co-chairs of this year’s gala, and he’s good friends with Anna Wintour (she adores him). I hoped that he would wear something crazy, but he just pulled out a nice tuxedo. Mirka is killing it though, I love her Valentino dress.
Lil’ Nas X was a bejeweled cat at the Met Gala in this Dior look, styled by Pat McGrath. Vogue reports that this look took 9 hours and that the pearls and crystals were sourced from all over the world by a team of people. His body was the main attraction and he looks like a fitness model. I tried to see if he’s talked about his fitness and nutrition and he sort-of has, just saying that he works out a few times a week and that rehearsals keep him fit. He’s also said he has a fast metabolism.
Lil’ Nas just meowed when he was asked about his look! I did lol

Miranda Kerr was also in Dior. She looked absolutely beautiful and I love the way the embroidered beads spread out down the skirt. This is a very staid gown but it works.
Alexandra Daddario was kind of washed out in this nude Dior with scalloped tiers. The coloring is all wrong. Her darker hair is kind of throwing off the look too. She’s so pretty though.
I’m including model Alton Mason, whom I wasn’t familiar with before last night. He’s walked the runway for Chanel. He described this as a Chanel bridal look and I definitely noticed him on the carpet. I loved this. It’s very Lil Nas!

Cardi B is such a fashionista. She loves going to fashion shows, she loves walking red carpets and she especially loves the Met Gala. Cardi changed her look like four times at this year’s Met Gala, but for most of the carpet, she wore this Thom Browne Chen Peng look which was clearly based on the entire aesthetic of Karl Lagerfeld as a person and his designs. I loved how many women did variations of “interpreting Karl Lagerfeld’s look,” rather than grabbing a Chanel frock. There was so much ingenuity at play with how people interpreted the theme.
Janelle Monae wore Thom Browne (Cardi did too, in a different look). The fashion critics were going crazy about this but I find it… surprisingly unremarkable? There was the hooped “costume,” and then she removed various parts of the costume to reveal a sheer hoop skirt, and her bra and panties. Lady Gaga did something similar one year.
Olivia Rodrigo in Thom Browne. I love this? It’s great, minus the baby-bangs. That was a (terrible) trend last night too – so many baby bangs.
Teyana Taylor in Thom Browne. I love this too, such a clever interpretation. Thom Browne really did an amazing job with their ladies.
Bella Ramsey in Thom Browne. She’s lovely and I love that she chose something which makes her comfortable.
The Met Gala was a lot of fun last night. So many celebrities had stories about working with Karl Lagerfeld and the fashion was playful and fun. There were plenty of cat-themed purses and some people dressed as Karl’s beloved cat, Choupette. Doja Cat had the most buzz early on as she showed up in this Oscar de la Renta sequin and feather white gown with a little cat-ear hood. Notably she was sporting prosthetics to make her look like a cat. This is striking, but it’s like a high end version of a lazy girl’s Halloween costume – throw on some cat ears and a sexy dress and call it a day. It could be a little more creative, you know?
Amanda Seyfried got the better Oscar de la Renta look in this “custom gold and platinum draped bugle bead embroidered dress.” She’s one of those celebrities who makes you go “ooh who is that?” when you see her from far away. Her styling is perfection and I absolutely love this gown. She looks amazing.
I know Jared Leto should maybe get his own post since he showed up in a giant fluffy cat costume, but f this guy. I can’t stand him. He regularly pulls stunts at the Met Gala, and this is no different. He was basically a mascot. Anyone else could have taken that hat off and I would love this look honestly, it’s fun. I can’t find a designer ID yet but I’ll update when I do. He usually wears Gucci.
