Before we get to the epic Met Gala coverage – which will start momentarily – I just wanted to cover these photos from the Chanel 2015/16 Cruise collection. There was a minor scandal when Chanel released the date for this big PR/fashion event – the Met Gala had been on the books for months before Karl Lagerfeld decided to show the Cruise collection the very same day… in Seoul, South Korea. Do you think it was shade aimed at Anna Wintour? Do you think this is Karl’s way of hating on the Met Gala?
Anyway, Kristen Stewart, one of the faces of Chanel these days, was one of the big celebrity guests. Which meant that she couldn’t attend the Met Gala, as she has in years past (usually to terrible results). Was that a good choice? Honoring her contract with Chanel instead of coming out to the biggest fashion event of the year? It’s a tough call. Made easier by the fact that her ex, Robert Pattinson, came to the Met Gala with his fiancée, FKA Twigs. Hm. As for Kristen’s look here… she looks great. The dress works on her, I don’t mind the hair at all and her makeup is on point. She even made an effort to look less sulky than usual. Huzzah!
More photos… Gisele Bundchen going solo at the Cruise collection. She didn’t walk the runway (she’s retired!), but she came out for Karl and Chanel.

And obviously the most important person there was Tilda Swinton and her lover Sandro Kopp. I’m shocked by how “normal” Tilda looks here. Where is the Alien Goddess Realness?

Was it a last minute decision? Like, she wasn’t intending to go but decided to go anyway and just yanked something serviceable out of the closet that didn’t need to be pressed?
Then again, it’s Chanel. I’ve no doubt Rachel Weisz has some Chanel lying around but this is couture so… it probably…

Allison Williams doesn’t usually do it for me on a red carpet. And I don’t often enjoy a red dress on a red carpet either. Especially this shade of red, where you can’t tell the difference between the dress and the carpet. Also, tulle. Don’t have much time for it.
But I quite like this choice…

Well done.
Michael B Jordan is the male counterpart to Courtney Easton. They’re both in Dolce&Gabbana. And it’s the fabric that sets this apart from just a regular tuxedo. It’s luxurious. It’s old and modern at the same time. It has to be worn with confidence. And this guy…clearly… as we’ve s…

Julia Roberts. That’s who popped into my mind when Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe arrived at the MET Gala. Julia Roberts at the Oscars. Winning at the Oscars in vintage Valentino. I just feel like annoying you so I’ll post this to get you going:
It works every time, doesn’t it? Sorry…

Well it’s gold. But it’s definitely not Chinese. Still… I appreciate the drama of this look (while you’re still wondering who she is. Answer: actress, Mad Max: Fury Road). It’s Dolce&Gabbana and it reminds me of their Fall 2012 collection which Stefano described as “something between princesses a…

Almost anything would have been an improvement on last year. The WTF yellow Marchesa. What? You forgot?
How?
Here.
For 2015, Katie Holmes wore Zac Posen. And it’s fine. Forgettable, but fine. Oh and a new fringed bob that may or may not be a wig. Which just reminds me of the last…

Kate Hudson’s gold dress was worn like a dishrag. And then there’s a gold dress the way Fan Bingbing wears a gold dress. By covering it with a cape. I wish I could show you more photos of her but photographers at these events tend to ignore international stars.
But you really don’t need a lot…

As I noted in the open, gold, red, and green, these are the favoured Chinese colours. There was a lot of gold, red, and green at the MET Gala. Some of it done well, with just the right amount of Chinese cheesy, and some of it… well…
Kate Hudson in Michael Kors was a mess. The problem is the h…

I love what’s happening underneath Dwyane Wade’s jacket. And I apologise in advance for mixing up my references but it reminds me of an old European army uniform; it reminds me of Les Miserables. Exciting, right? Because men’s fashion doesn’t often surprise you. This is flair. And when it’s done …
