Kristen Bell: “Body Image Is What You Make Of It”

House of Lies star Kristen Bell covers the May issue of Good Housekeeping and opens up about family life with husband, Parenthood actor Dax Shepard, and their daughters Lincoln, 2, and Delta, 4 months.

On wanting to have a VBAC with Delta: “My belly is extremely comfortable; neither of my girls wanted to come out of it. Lincoln was born via C-section, but with Delta, I wanted a vaginal birth, because I wanted to be able to come home and carry Lincoln. I did not want my toddler to feel rejected because Mommy couldn’t lift her for five or six weeks or whatever. That was my priority.” But at 7 centimeters dilated, the doctors recommended another C-section. “I bawled for 10 minutes. I was so disappointed. I tried really hard! But she came out beautifully … The gift of the Magi is that when I got home, Lincoln didn’t care that I couldn’t pick her up!”

On getting marriage counseling: “Therapy is not something to be embarrassed about. I used to have a temper. I loved slamming doors?–?I wanted a dramatic exit! But he, having worked through a variety of emotional issues to get sober, said, ‘This isn’t going to work. This isn’t how I’m going to communicate for the rest of my life.’ When someone doesn’t fight back and goes, ‘I don’t want to do this,’ that threat is real. It makes you reevaluate your behavior. The way Dax and I argue now?–?and we argue a lot; we disagree on almost everything!?–?is so healthy. I read Blink, the Malcolm Gladwell book, and there’s a chapter about this University of Washington researcher who interviews couples. His conclusion is that if you have contempt for your partner, it’s done — you might as well get a divorce attorney.”

On how motherhood changed her: “I wasn’t positive I wanted kids. But I can now confirm having them is absolutely unmissable. When Lincoln came out, at first I was like, ‘Eh, what do I do with it? I can take it home?’ But when I started breastfeeding, the oxytocin or my hormones or hundreds of thousands of years of evolution kicked in. I didn’t want to let her go.”

On losing the baby weight: “I’m going to let it come off naturally. I’ll work out and eat healthy, but I’m not desperate to shed the weight. Body image is what you make of it. I refuse to compare myself to anyone anymore. I’ve done it; it didn’t make me feel good. I don’t like comparison hangovers. I’ve actually lost weight more quickly this time around. I think it’s because Lincoln keeps me really active. She’s fast, man. She runs, she walks, she sasses me all the time. She’s a wonderful handful.”

On being pro-vaccine: “I’m very crunchy, and happily so. But there is a lot of scientific, proven information out there that shows why vaccinations are necessary. Kids with autoimmune diseases, kids who are receiving cancer treatments — they can’t be vaccinated because their immune systems [can’t handle it]. If your kid has leukemia, he can’t get vaccinations; if he then goes to school with my kid and I chose not to give my kid vaccinations, I’m putting your kid at risk. To me, that’s unacceptable. There are the weak among us whom we have to protect. As moms, our responsibility is not just to our kids — it’s to all the other kids, too. People often misplace fear. Your child is 100 times more likely to be struck by lightning than to have a severe reaction to a vaccine. That’s a fact.”

Michael B. Jordan is Adonis in new Rocky movie

Adonis is a GREAT name.

I mean it’s a balls out name, for sure. And Duana would say it’s a lot of expectation to give to a baby. But holy sh-t, imagine meeting an Adonis who actually fit the name Adonis?

Michael B Jordan is totally an Adonis. And that’s his character in the new Rocky movi…

On paper, would you ever consider giving Carey Mulligan top billing over Meryl Streep for a movie? Their star power and cinematic trajectories couldn’t be more different. But that’s what happens in the first trailer for Suffragette, which was released today.

It’s a first look at what many are…

I’m not even completely sure that Calvin Harris & Taylor Swift are still in the midst of their “fling.” I’m assuming they are and I’m assuming it will be over soon enough. Many Swifty conspiracists believe that she “needs” to date a high-profile guy every so often, just so she’ll have enough “inspiration” and blind-item clues to write new music. Personally, I’m just happy she’s finally stopped with the whole “I only need my girlfriends to survive in this world” thing, just because that shtick was starting to grate on my last nerve. In any case, “sources” told OK! Magazine that Calvin Harris is worried that he’s going to be the subject of many Swifty songs to come. Yeah… he should be worried.

Calvin Harris supposedly felt uncomfortable with the prospect of his rumoured girlfriend Taylor Swift penning a tune about their romance. The 25-year-old I Knew You Were Trouble singer and the 31-year-old Scottish music producer and DJ are rumoured to be dating each other. Taylor is infamous for penning tunes about her romantic affairs, but apparently Calvin is completely uncomfortable with the prospect of their romance being memorialised in one of her future songs.

“It was the white elephant in the room, but it’s been on his mind, so he confronted her about it last week, telling her he doesn’t want her to do that to him,” a source told America’s OK! magazine. “[Calvin] doesn’t want to join the ranks of Swift refugee boyfriends who’ve been humiliated by one of her revenge songs.”

Taylor has dated numerous Hollywood heartthrobs in the past, including Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer and One Direction singer Harry Styles. It’s claimed Calvin isn’t just concerned with his reputation; the DJ purportedly believes Taylor “demeans herself” by writing songs about her exes.

“He thinks she’s an incredible musician who should use her intellect and channel positive energy into her songwriting, versus mundane lyrics about boys,” the insider said.

[From The Belfast Telegraph]

Tay-Tay “demeans” herself like a fox. Like a profitable fox. Because people are still buying it and I would imagine they’ll still be buying it when her next album is full of songs like “DJ Douchebag” and “The Scottish Bruise on My Heart” or whatever. For what it’s worth, I think Calvin gives good drama – he’s already proven that with his ex-girlfriend Rita Ora. And he’s said that he likes women that are a bit bonkers, which also fits with Swifty. So if and when Swifty writes her blind-item songs about a mysterious Scotsman/Prince Charming-on-the-decks, Calvin will give as good as he gets.

Beyonce was in Beverly Hills last night for the opening of the Giuseppe Zanotti boutique and was personally toured through the space by Giuseppe himself. Which basically means she gets one of everything and the next 5 seasons too…?

Is that enough though?

It’s not like Beyonce can’t afford…

Much like last week’s New York Times write-up, People Magazine has decided to do an article about how George Clooney and Amal have taken New York by storm. For what it’s worth, I do think Amal seems a lot happier in New York. She gets pap’d on the reg, she gets to hang out with all of the important people, she doesn’t have to cook or pretend to care about George’s crew of dude-friends. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if George bought a nice apartment for them in New York as soon as he finishes filming Money Monster. Anyway, People’s write-up is mostly a summary of stuff we already knew/wrote about when it happened. But there was some new info! Some highlights:

A source tells People: “They’re having a great time in New York, both working really hard but also having fun together.”

Amal’s brother is in New York and he visited the set of Money Monster with Amal on Sunday.

Their two cocker spaniels are named Einstein and Louie.

Another source tells People: “Amal and George look happy and in love. They’re spending time with other couples and friends who are bright and driven and interested in improving the world.”

Amal’s not thinking about babies? “Amal’s very much in love and extremely busy,” says a source close to the lawyer, adding that she’s “not thinking about babies” at the moment.

George will be heading overseas in May to promote Tomorrowland. Will Amal come with?

[From People]

That’s interesting that a “source” just wanted People Magazine to know that Amal is “extremely busy” and “not thinking about babies.” This is going to sound judgy, but I’m actually saying this as a matter of general pragmatism: the window for “we’re thinking about babies/we’re trying for babies” is closing very quickly. She’s 37 years old and he’s 53. What I’m saying is that they’re both a little long in the tooth to still be playing the “we’re not thinking about that right now, we’re just having fun” game. Now, if they don’t plan on having kids, that’s fine and it’s not my business or anyone else’s. But it seems more like Amal and George want to keep the baby speculation in the air for a year or so. This is called The Aniston Method.
