Charlize Theron On Sean Penn: “He Is Hot”

Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron covers the May issue of Esquire and opens up about her “hot” beau, fellow actor Sean Penn, and her 3-year-old son Jackson.

On if she’ll marry Penn: “The marriage thing is always so strange to me. I love the possibility of anything, but I’m really enjoying myself and the everyday moment and how that coincides with my son and my life and my friends. I’m a very, very, very lucky girl. Very lucky. He’s hot. He is hot. How do you say that in an interview? You’re a 40-year-old woman sounding like a 16-year-old. There’s something beautiful about that, but you lack the articulation of really saying what it’s like when somebody walks into your life and makes you see something that you really never thought you’d be able to see. If somebody had said to me, ‘This is what it will be,’ I would’ve said, ‘F–k off.’ As you can see, it makes me smile.”

On her long-term friendship with Penn: “We’ve been friends for 20 years. He was married, I was in a long-term relationship, our spouses—not regularly, but we were in each other’s lives. I think our friendship stemmed from mutual respect—more on my end, because I really didn’t have a body of work 20 years ago, but my love and passion for making films—that was our common ground. And also, Sean liked to have conversations outside of just making movies. That’s sometimes hard to find among friends here, and that’s where our friendship really blossomed. A lot of people want to tell you the answer to solving all of Africa’s problems from what they’ve seen on CNN. Sean is not that guy. When he started working in Haiti and I started working on the AIDS front in South Africa, we spent a lot of time talking about those worlds.”

On finding love again: “I think that for both of us there was never a moment where we thought that this—what we have today—would ever even be a possibility. Ever, ever, ever. I think we’re both finding ourselves at this moment in our lives kind of shocked. Both of us. Just when you think you know how things are supposed to go down, life just kicks you in the ass and guess what? You don’t have a clue.”

I actually enjoy writing about the Monaco royal family as much as I enjoy writing about the British royal family, which is “a lot.” But Monaco has been pretty quiet lately, especially since Princess Charlene gave Prince Albert twin heirs to the Grimaldi throne last December. The arrival of Albert’s first two “legitimate” heirs means that Princess Caroline’s children just fell further down the line of succession. There was talk, a few years ago, that Caroline was really pushing Albert to never have legitimate heirs so that her son Andrea Casiraghi would eventually take over Monaco. But Albert got his heirs. So Caroline’s dream is dead (for now!).

But Andrea never seemed all that concerned. He’s been with Tatiana Santa Domingo, an heiress to a large fortune, for years and years. Tatiana got pregnant with their first child in early 2012 and gave birth to their son Alexander (who goes by Sacha) in early 2013. Tatiana and Andrea were married five months later. I sort of forgot about them and I totally forgot that Tatiana got pregnant again last year. But she did and she gave birth to a little girl over the weekend.

Congratulations are in order – yet again – for Monaco. Prince Albert’s nephew Andrea Casiraghi and wife Tatiana Santo Domingo had a second child on Sunday in London, sources confirm to PEOPLE. The child, a girl, is Princess Caroline’s first granddaughter and will become sixth in line to the Monaco throne.

Andrea and Tatiana, who already have a 2-year-old son, Alexandre (known as “Sacha”), first announced the pregnancy in November. After dating for a decade, Andrea, the son of Princess Caroline, and Tatiana were married in August 2013.

The birth of the Casiraghi daughter comes just four months after that of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene’s twins, Gabriella and Jacques, in December. The twins are due to be formally christened in Monaco’s Cathedral on May 10.

[From People]

I can’t wait to hear the name! I hope it’s cute. I think it’s interesting that Tatiana gave birth in London – did the family relocate there at some point? Last I heard, Tatiana and Andrea split their time between Paris and Monte Carlo. I guess they have a place in London too.

Here are some photos of Sacha Casiraghi – he’s got a little grump-face, like Prince George. I hate that Princess Caroline doesn’t want to be in the same photo with her daughter-in-law.

Reese Witherspoon covers the new issue of InStyle Magazine. I’m also including (below) some photos taken of Reese in the past week. Notice all the costume changes. She’s getting pap’d multiple times a day, often in completely different outfits. I stopped looking when I reached seven different photo sets/outfits in the past week (but there are totally more photos). Is this a case of the paps just knowing where to find her? Or is it something else? Cough. Anyway, in the May InStyle, Reese talks about being a spitfire, her Southern mafia and her Southern values. She’s laying it on a bit thick, right?

Surrounding herself with real friends: “I learned a few years ago that there are people who don’t want good things for you. You’ve got to get away from them. Now I surround myself with supportive friends. I have a close group of girlfriends I call my Southern Mafia. One’s from Oklahoma, one’s from Arkansas, another’s from Tennessee. I get a lot out of my relationships with them.”

How she relates to her Southern Mafia: “Parenting, getting through your marriage, getting through your day, these are hard things, and I find solace in the fact that other people struggle with the same stuff I do. We all have concerns about our kids, our marriage, our dreams.”

She’s a spitfire: “I’ve finally gotten to an age when I’m not afraid to have an opinion. I feel that my perspective matters. It took me a while to figure that out, but I’m there now. I was always pretty outspoken, actually, but now I’ve learned to say sorry when I make mistakes, too. I’ve always been a little spitfire. Sometimes it’s gotten me into trouble.”

Fighting for strong female roles: “I grew up seeing incredibly strong women like Holly Hunter, Sigourney Weaver and Debra Winger. I want to ensure that my 15-year-old daughter grows up seeing those types of strong women playing complicated parts.”

When she realized she was a feminist: “I went to Harpeth Hall, a wonderful all-girls school in Nashville that encouraged us to see ourselves as working women in the world, to speak up for ourselves to ask for equal pay and advocate for gender equality. Outside that school, I experienced the full force of a patriarchal society, but I had a core value system that said, ‘No, you really deserve to be treated equal to men.”

Her clothing/lifestyle line, Draper James: “I’ve had so much fun developing and creating Draper James… it’s is based on my Southern upbringing. It’s a reflection of the fact that I’ve travelled all over the world but where I really love to be is home. I just think the brand reflects a lot of my Southern traditions and values.”

[From ET Canada and E! News]

I have such mixed feelings about Reese. Like, I think parts of her shtick is completely legitimate, and I believe she genuinely cares about seeing and developing interesting, female-driven films. I also believe she’s genuinely influenced by her Southern background. But I also believe this IS a shtick, that she’s been trying on this image as a sweet-but-spitfiery Southern gal who can get drunk and bitch out a cop AND fight for feminism, y’all. Part of it caricature, at least that’s how it seems to me. Mostly, Reese is out for relevance. She’s out to profit from this image she’s created over the past few years.
