First, let me thank Celebitches Erin and Rachel for sending this story in as a request for coverage. I love that people enjoy it when I bitch about the work-sky royals! And this is one of the biggest work-shy-royal stories we’ve ever had. I’m not sure what happened or who pissed off whom or whether Prince William is terrorizing his cousins, but the Daily Mail just slammed the crap out of Princess Beatrice. Granted, Beatrice is shady as hell these days – I still don’t believe she was in San Francisco for a “financial course” and I don’t believe she does much of anything in general. The Daily Mail agrees – their article is an EPIC tale of vacations on someone else’s dime.
According to the Duke of York’s official website, Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary of York ‘works full time in business’. The site also trumpets the many charitable pursuits of HRH (as her father Prince Andrew is so keen for her to be known). Its message is clear: the sixth in line to the throne is busy, self-sufficient and no burden on the public purse. The only problem is, the activity that appears to keep her most busy is, well, holidaying. This week the 26-year-old jetted off to Verbier in the Alps and is enjoying her 11th break in less than six months.
Given that she resigned from her last job, as an intern at Sony, back in January — after just 12 months in the role — these many trips rather invite the question of precisely who is paying for them. For while Beatrice receives no public funding, she shows no signs of earning any money, either. There have been reports of a U.S. move and interviews with finance companies there, though this is yet to materialise. Not that her career uncertainty has affected her holidaying. On Sunday she headed straight for the airport after church with the Queen, and 11 holidays in under six months is a record even for this particularly itinerant princess.
How does she afford it? Those close to Bea say most of the funding comes from her parents (though where their money comes from is even more of an enigma; sources say Andrew is funded principally by the Queen). Boyfriend Dave Clark may also aid her lifestyle; he earns a healthy six-figure salary and is able to arrange much of her travel free as part of his role at Virgin Galactic. Presumably he will earn even more in his new role at taxi giant Uber. ‘Let’s face it, it doesn’t do Virgin any harm that the company gets a mention every time Bea appears on Dave’s arm,’ was the assessment of one source.
Another said ‘her father buys a business-class ticket on British Airways, but they always bump her up to first’. She can stay in Verbier and New York for free at her parents’ and sister’s homes. And her St Barts trips also appear to have been freebies — the first one on the Mittal yacht, the second on a yacht paid for, say friends, by comedian and close friend Jimmy Carr. Once there, living expenses would be minimal.
The Princess also benefits from her many well-connected, well-off friends. Many enjoy the use of private jets — the Reuben family own London Oxford airport and Battersea Heliport — so the potential for ‘lifts’ is almost unlimited. Others have large holiday homes or, like the Tangs, are more than happy to provide accommodation for their famous, royal connections.

The bulk of the article is devoted to listing all 11 holidays/vacations Beatrice has enjoyed over the past six months, which you can read at the Mail’s website. To be fair to Beatrice, the Mail lists some “vacations” which are half-work, like going to the UAE with her father and then just spending a few days doing fun stuff. You know who else does that? Will and Kate. That being said, I feel like the Mail missed a few holidays, because they literally didn’t mention whatever “time off” Beatrice had for the Christmas holiday. I assume she was at Windsor Castle. Surely we should count that as a holiday too? But yeah, UAE to Shanghai to St. Barts to NYC to Verbier to Colorado to Greece and then back to the ski slopes of Verbier. And on and on. Girl, get a job.

The charming and dashing Nicholas Hoult has been officially single since he and Jennifer Lawrence broke up last July. JLaw quickly moved on with the king of elevator music, and I’m still so confused. I liked Nick and Jennifer together even though they were so off-and-on as a couple. He’s awkwardly suave, unconventionally handsome, and appears to have a real personality. The tabloids tried to set him up with co-star Kristen Stewart, which was predictable and ridiculous. Now some new gossip has surfaced, and it seems like a credible match. Nick has been seeing Glee star Dianna Agron, who has dated some cuties in the past (including Sebastian Stan). Here’s the initial report from the Sun (via the Mail):
The British actor has been single since their break-up last spring, but according to The Sun, he now has a new girlfriend – Glee beauty Dianna Agron.
“It’s early days but things between them are ticking along nicely,” a source told the tabloid. “They’ve been friends for a long time. Nicholas is very low key so at first, Dianna would just tag along with him to the pub and she’d be part of the gang.
“No one thought much of it but recently they’ve become quite lose and are behaving quite couply.”
Instead of hitting up the VIP areas of the English capital’s most exclusive nightclubs, Nicholas, 25, has been taking Dianna, 28, to quiz nights at his local pub.
The Skins star was also spotted treating her to a traditional Sunday roast dinner at his favourite watering hole the Black Lion in Hammersmith.
But according to The Sun, the casual dates have won over Dianna who is impressed with Nicholas’ low-key lifestyle.
So much so that the private star let her guard down completely to enjoy a PDA at The Gallery in West Hampstead, where she was spotted kissing a delighted Nicholas.
[From The Mail]
Us Weekly has some additional details. They say Nick and Dianna have been “casually dating” since last October, but “Nick’s not looking for anything serious at the moment.” Hmm. If it’s been six months, they might be a bit more than casual. Just saying. I do find it interesting that these two have kept their romance under wraps for half a year (unlike another couple). Yes, Nick has a lower profile than JLaw, but the tabloids would be interested in who JLaw’s ex is dating.

This ^^ is the new cover of the New York Times’ T Style Magazine. That’s Kanye West. The NYT reporter followed him around in New York while he and Kim were in town for NY Fashion Week, which is when Kanye debuted his collection with Adidas. The piece is both “classic Kanye” and “new Kanye.” That’s the thing about interviewing Kanye in a long-form piece. You actually get into his rhythms and you can tell that half the crazy stuff he says comes from a place of humor and self-awareness. He’s a narcissistic douchebag but he knows he’s a narcissistic douchebag and he tries to bring some soul to it. Anyway, because it’s Friday and I had the time, I read the whole piece and I actually enjoyed it. Some highlights:
Kanye on his arrival in the fashion world: “It’s literally like .?.?. I know this is really harsh, but it’s like Before Yeezy and After Yeezy. This is the new Rome!”
Kanye wants to do for fashion what he did for music: “Before the Internet, music was really expensive. People would use a rack of CDs to show class, to show they had made it. Right now, people use clothes to telegraph that. I want to destroy that. The very thing that supposedly made me special — the jacket that no one could get, the direct communications with the designers — I want to give that to the world.”
His luxury clothes: “There’s a transition. I need to partake in what’s of value and of quality and soul in order to understand it, in order to give it back.”
His dream: “I dreamed, since I was a little kid, of having my own store where I could curate every shoe, sweatshirt and color. I have sketches of it. I cried over the idea of having my own store.”
He’s not a celebrity: “I’m not a celebrity, I’m an activist. The fact that when I see truth it’s really hard for me to sit back and just allow it to happen in front of me on my clock makes me, a lot of times, a bad celebrity.”
His family: “I feel like now I have an amazing wife, a supersmart child and the opportunity to create in two major fields. Before I had those outlets, my ego was all I had.” But he also speaks “all the time” to a doctor who specializes in anger management therapy.
Kanye’s parable: “I have this table in my new house. They put this table in without asking. It was some weird nouveau riche marble table, and I hated it. But it was literally so heavy that it took a crane to move it. We would try to set up different things around it, but it never really worked. I realized that table was my ego. No matter what you put around it, under it, no matter who photographed it, the douchebaggery would always come through.”
The criticism that he’s too heavily influenced by other designers: “I would like to be influenced as much as possible. I don’t care if you can see the influence in something, as long as I made it better.”
Being touched on the cheek by Ralph Lauren: “Do you know what he said when he did that? ‘This is my son.’ And I was thinking, ‘I knew it! I knew Ralph was my daddy!’?”
[From T Style Magazine]
In one of the more touching moments in the article, Kanye takes a break from fashion shows to stop in a kids’ store, where he carefully picks out several stuffed animals for North, then spends a lot of time looking through kids’ clothing to pick out one sweater for North and one toddler-sized jumper “for reference” for himself. It’s sweet because even though ‘Ye is narcissism-monster, it just shows that at the purest level, he really does flat-out adore his daughter and fatherhood.
Oh, and I LOVE his parable about the table. Dude used “douchebaggery” in a NYT profile. Classy.

As Bedhead reported last week, those of us who pay attention to Scientology and celebrity news weren’t surprised by anything in the new HBO documentary, Going Clear. We’ve heard all this information for years, and we know that Scientology uses slave labor, sucks members dry and abuses, isolates and intimidates anyone who tries to leave. We’ve heard how they cater to and manipulate celebrity members. We’ve also heard multiple firsthand accounts from high level defectors, and there are even videos on YouTube of Scientology goons harassing and yelling at ex members. To the casual gossip consumer, these stories are scandalous and shocking, though. Scientology can no longer be dismissed as some harmless wacky scifi “religion”, it’s a dangerous cult and just about everyone has heard about it.
In response to Going Clear, Scientology head David Miscavige has done just about what he’s always done – told members not to watch television, go online or read the news.
One-time high-ranking Scientologist Tom DeVocht tells RadarOnline.com exclusively that church leader David Miscavige has put members on “lockdown” mode in an attempt to stem the fall-out from recent explosive allegations.
DeVocht told Radar exclusively, “I have spoken with someone within the Church. This person is one of the higher-ups, and David Miscavige has ordered the Church to go on lockdown in response to Going Clear.”
“The order told members to not watch any television, read newspapers, or go online because the Church is under attack,” DeVocht claimed.
“Everyone is extremely paranoid that they are being watched or risk being tattled on if caught doing one of those things.”
[From Radar Online]
It’s possible that the latest media ban was to keep members from seeing this story about how Miscavige hired a private investigator to spy on his own elderly father. The PI told police that at one point he witnessed Miscavige’s father possibly having a heart attack. Miscavige told the PI over the phone not to intervene and that “if it was Ron’s time to die, to let him die.”
Tom Cruise’s former auditor and one of the most outspoken critics of Scientology, Marty Rathbun, has a new interview in Esquire following his appearance in the Going Clear documentary. Rathbun has worked tirelessly to help ex Scientologists reintegrate into society and make sense of their experience. Rathbun doesn’t think that Going Clear will have too much of an effect on the church or on current members. He does say that it will help outsiders understand what Scientology is up to. “What it’s going to do is let people on the outside who might have an interest in Scientology know what the consequences are.” So while it may seem idiotic for some cult leader to tell members not to go online or read the news at all, that’s pretty much what been happening all along. People who make the decision to leave do so, according to Rathbun, because they see the abuses of the cult firsthand.
Meanwhile US Magazine has an article in their print edition about Tom Cruise’s life inside Scientology. It’s largely based on Going Clear and it’s not new, but it reminds us that “Tom has minders with him at all times” and that “he’s rarely in touch with family members who aren’t Scientologists.” We just heard that Tom hasn’t seen his own eight year-old daughter, Suri, in over a year. I wonder if he’ll ever reach a point where he realizes that he missed his daughter’s childhood, and I wonder if he’ll ever regret it. If he does, it’s not like he can publicly break ties with Scientology. They surely have a ton of dirt on him.
US also has a quote from another former Scientologist, Karen de la Carriere, who confirms Radar’s story that members are being ordered not to watch the film. “Ethics officers told Scientologists if they see the movie, they’ll lose everything.” Just maybe some of them will be curious enough to risk it.

While Tiger Woods competed in the pre-Masters Par 3 Tournament in Augusta, Georgia on Wednesday (April 8), his two kids – daughter Sam, 7, and son Charlie, 6 – were daddies caddies.
The Woods’ were accompanied by the golfer’s girlfriend of two years, Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn.
Sam and Charlie looked adorable in miniature caddy jumpsuits and bright green Masters caps, Woods wore a mint and black polo shirt and Vonn went for a chic mint maxidress.
According to USA Today, Sam was able to take — and make! — a shot for her famous dad on the putting green of the sixth hole.
“I’ll always have memories of my pop at Augusta and now Sam & Charlie. An amazing day,” a proud Woods Tweeted after the tournament.
