It’s good that magazines know if they’re making models look like bland pieces of toast on their covers, at least they should have the decency to include a PUPPY. Karlie Kloss covers the new issue of Porter Magazine, but who is even paying attention to her when she’s holding such a perfectly grumpy German shepherd puppy? GET THAT PUPPY A MODELING CONTRACT. Anyway, in the Porter interview, Karlie talks about feminism and what she’ll be studying at NYU as a full-time student.

On feminism: “I grew up in a house with four women—it’s hard not to be a feminist.”

She’s a chameleon: “ I feel a bit like a chameleon. Not only in the way that I can adapt to different circles and feel really at ease, but it is part of my job to be a chameleon. I find it a challenge to physically take on a different character at each show.”

Her celebrity: “I’m a bit numbed by celebrity at this point. It’s being able to get to know people I have admired from afar and actually recognizing that everyone’s just a normal person. I see people more for who they actually are.”

She’ll be studying computer coding at NYU: “I’m not in any rush to get a degree in four years. I’m figuring out how I’m going to balance it all, but I am planning to take a class in the fall. I definitely could not get a job as a coder yet. But it is something I am fascinated by, even if it is not the profession I choose. Simply having the comprehension of the way that it works, having the ability to speak that language and to be able to not only comprehend it, but write and build something—the world is built on code.”

Her future: “Whether or not, 30 years from now, I’m doing this job, I will be doing something I am really fascinated by and excited by and passionate about. That is really how I measure success; it is what you do with it. I’m excited for the future, I’m excited for all that it holds, but for me the focus is on continuing to challenge myself and make myself better.”

[From E! News]

Just a word about coding – I love the “Girls Who Code” movement and the attempt to teach the younger kids (specifically girls and minorities) how to code. Yes, Karlie probably won’t get a job in Silicon Valley, but she might inspire some young girls to study coding because IT IS COOL. It is cool if Karlie Kloss is interested in it. STEM jobs are cool.

As for the rest of it… Karlie seems to be following the Christy Turlington method – go back to school, develop other interests outside of modeling, be the “good girl” model/activist/celebrity. It worked well for Christy. It will probably work well for Karlie.

I was never a super-fan of The Killers, but I liked their music whenever it came on the radio. Brandon Flowers is a good-looking guy with a great voice for pop-rock. I was pleasantly surprised when I read Lainey’s post about Brandon last week – Brandon and The Killers are taking a break, and Brandon is releasing his second solo album. He’s written all the songs and he’s preparing for a big push, with concerts all over the place. Brandon sat down with The Daily Beast to talk about his album, the state of music today, Mormonism, Mitt Romney and so much more. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

The state of music today: “When I listen to a rock radio station in Las Vegas, I don’t hear rock ‘n’ roll. I don’t even hear fragments of it, and it’s frustrating. I’m not in the most rock ‘n’ roll band on the planet, but you can trace what we do to those roots, and I can’t hear it on the radio anymore. And I don’t hear anything that’s good. I’m not being a dick, but I don’t hear anything that’s good. Everyone goes into their living room, fires up their computer, and are just putting stuff out, and they haven’t earned the right to be where they’re at. These kids that make these keyboard records, it drives me nuts! It’s like, ‘Do you hear New Order? Do you hear it? Because yours is not as good as that! Go back and work harder.’ It’s so strange to me, and there’s so much of it.”

He doesn’t drink: “When I stopped smoking and drinking, instantly the shows started getting better. I sang better, I had more longevity, and I felt better. That was about eight years ago. And being committed to my wife and family, I can’t think of a downside to it. There are people in the past who’ve done the sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll thing and made it happen for them, but I knew even when I was young that that wasn’t going to work out for me. You’re more yourself, and you’re more wholesome. I believe in God, so I believe it’s the way that He intended us to be.”

Mitt Romney & Mormonism: “It’s still a very misunderstood thing. There’s weird rumors, and somebody just needs to clear it up! I think Romney would even admit that he wasn’t a great ambassador for it. His answers weren’t great, and it made it even worse; it seemed like he was hiding something. But there’s really nothing to hide. You can find out what you need to find out! It’s all there.”

The Church of LDS’s stance on same-sex marriage: “Do Catholics perform same-sex marriages? I doubt our church ever will perform them. I doubt it. But I was always taught that everyone on this Earth is my brother and sister, so maybe from an outsider’s perspective it looks worse than it really is, but we don’t teach fire and brimstone.”

[From The Daily Beast]

I knew he was a Mormon and I knew he got married young and started a family young. But I guess I didn’t realize that he took his faith so seriously and that he credits going back to the church as one of the ways that saved him. To be fair, it didn’t really sound like Flowers was a total mess with drugs and alcohol, just that he had a “wild streak” and spent several years in a party-heavy environment. He even says that he didn’t go to rehab, he just decided to stop drinking one day and stuck to it. Anyway… he sounds like a nice guy.

The last we heard in Jeremy Renner’s ongoing and super messy divorce drama, he and estranged wife Sonni Pacheco were hurling insults and accusing each other of being unfit parents. She said, he said, well now the court has said. Yesterday Renner and Pacheco’s custody case was settled and Renner g…

Michelle Rodriguez

Here are some photos of Michelle Rodriguez at the Furious 7 premiere (Kaiser covered solo Elsa Pataky and everyone else). Michelle’s wearing a Vivienne Westwood dress, which is gorgeous under certain lighting. The silhouette flatters Michelle, but the jacquard overlay is the wrong color. It looks dusty, for lack of a better descriptor. I would have preferred a darker overlay, but I’m chuffed to see Michelle favoring Westwood designs lately.

Michelle has a new interview with NJ.com. The most interesting part is how she picks her roles. You’ll never see her play the girlfriend who fades into the background. Michelle also has a problem with scripts that feature an empowered women getting killed or raped. Yes, why does Hollywood do that? Michelle has the answer:

The appeal of this franchise: “We’re antiheroes being heroes, you know? It’s kind of Robin Hood-esque … But also I think it has a lot to do with the multicultural cast. People in this country – or in Spain, in Africa, in Asia – they can buy a ticket and see somebody who looks like them, and someone who isn’t necessarily a stereotype but an individual, a character who’s kind of blue-collar but also in this heroic position. It’s still pretty rare to have characters like that you can identify with. And after all this time, it’s crossing generations. I have six-year-kids running up to me and talking about Letty, which is really cool.”

On early career advice people gave her: “Well, I don’t know how well-intentioned it was! But you know, here’s the thing – I have such a strong sense of self, there are certain lines I just won’t cross. I’m really picky about the parts I choose. I can’t be the slut. I cannot be just the girlfriend. I can’t be the girl who gets empowered because she’s been raped. I can’t be the girl who gets empowered and then dies. So I just said to myself, look, you’re going to just have to create your own archetype, doesn’t matter if you go broke doing it. And I almost did go broke, twice! But people finally got it: OK, Michelle is not malleable, you’re not going to influence her by shining fame and money at her, and they stopped offering me that sort of stuff. But you know, it’s a Catch-22. It’s helped me and it’s screwed me. I’ve stuck to my guns and I’m proud.”

The movie cliché of the empowered women who dies: “I remember this script that came over my desk and it’s – I’m not even going to name it, it’ll just get me in more trouble – but I was reading it and at first I wanted to say no, because she’s Latina and she’s a drug dealer, and that’s like the only time you see Latin-Americans in Hollywood pictures. But I kept reading and I thought, well, some of it is based on truth, and she’s kind of an interesting person. And then I turn the page and they’ve stuck in this rape scene. Which didn’t even happen in real life, they just stuck it in there, this made-up thing and I thought, why? Why it is necessary to take her down like that? I mean, like Million Dollar Baby – why’s she got to die at the end, man? I mean, I get the tear-jerking, but would you do that to a male character? … I mean like 80% of the writers out there are men, and of course you’re going to write what you know. But it’s our fault as women for not penetrating that market, you know? I can’t complain about the scripts that are out there until I start writing some myself.”

[From NJ.com]

Michelle also talks about how everything came together for her after first Resident Evil movie. That’s the first time I noticed her and knew she possessed a fierceness seldom seen in Hollywood movies. She speaks the truth on how most script writers are men, and their narratives reflect their bias. Not every guy writes that way (obviously), but that’s the general trend.

MRod’s been making the press rounds. She talked to Entertainment Weekly about her sense of loss over Paul Walker’s death. They were friends and co-workers for 14 years, and she was so used to his regular presence that “I went pretty crazy. A lot of the stuff I did last year I would never do had I been in my right mind.” I believe she’s referring to the bizarre Zac Efron fling and the Cara Delevingne mess. There’s also a gross story about how obsessed she is with caviar. Us Weekly says Michelle regularly drops $700 in a single sitting because she loves the stuff so much. What a waste of money.

Ryan Gosling stepped out in LA to meet some friends for lunch yesterday. In that outfit, with the facial hair, he looks like he’s been in a dark room for days. Is that a euphemism for dealing with an infant?

Ryan’s directorial debut, Lost River, opens in a few days on April 10. It’s the only …

There’s a rumor going around Star Magazine that Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are over. Dun dun dun. Even though I have mixed feelings on Garfield in general – he’s given some weird interviews – I really, really liked them as a couple. They got together nearly four years ago when they met while filming The Amazing Spider-Man. I’m pretty sure they live together too – Emma has an apartment in NYC and I think Andrew lives there with her. Anyway, Star Magazine says that Emma and Andrew are “taking a break” because of competing work schedules and never seeing each other.

Oh no! Hollywood’s most adorable couple, Emma and Andrew, are no longer together, according to a new report. Find out what happened to the pair who have been together for over 3 years! Don’t worry, Emma Stone, 26, and Andrew Garfield, 31, are not over for good, but they are taking some time apart to figure things out, according to the sad new report. The long distance nature of their relationship has really taken its toll on the stars.

“It’s clear they’ve drifted apart. It’s an unspoken issue, but everybody knows they are on hold,” an Insider shared with Star magazine.

The couple has been going through a “rough patch” and being thousands of miles apart hasn’t helped. Andrew has been shooting a film in Taiwan and will soon be filming in Australia.

Nobody suspected anything was wrong with their relationship until Andrew was a no-show at the Oscars and The Golden Globes, where his girlfriend was nominated.

“Yes, Andrew was filming but he could have gotten away if he really wanted to. The fact was, neither one of them wanted to plaster on a smile and pretend everything was OK when it wasn’t,” the source explained.

“They are taking some time apart to figure things out. They need to know if what they once had is worth saving. They aren’t ready to call it quits just yet,” the insider insisted.

[From Hollywood Life]

Does this make you sad? I’m sort of sad, but I also feel like… yeah, maybe they need some space from each other. They were such a cute couple but I sometimes worried that Andrew wasn’t as supportive as he should be of Emma’s career. But hey, maybe this is just a temporary break and they’ll be back together by the end of the year. You never know.

Parents-to-be Leah Jenner and Brandon Jenner recently Instagrammed some shots from their tropical babymoon.

“#ilovebeingpregnant #ialsoloveburritos #alot,” Leah, 32, captioned the image looking adoringly at her growing baby bump in a floral bikini on the beach.

The reality star couple are enjoying a pre-baby vacation in Maui. A few days earlier, the 32-year-old shared her view from an afternoon hike with her “#MauiBeefCake.”

The pair announced their pregnancy in March.

Leah has been married to Brandon, the son of Bruce Jenner and Linda Thompson, since 2012.

The couple’s music group, Brandon & Leah, and their relationship have frequently been shown on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

?MY STARS? I had a lovely time shooting GP last week. Read all about it on goop.com????

A photo posted by RADIANT HUMAN (@radianthuman_) on Mar 19, 2015 at 4:58pm PDT

You are looking at a photo of Gwyneth Paltrow’s aura. Seriously. In one of Gwyneth’s latest Goop-letters, she and her Goop staff agreed to be photographed by one of those special cameras that capture people’s “auras”. The cameras have been around for years, and some people believe that this is really a thing. That we’re releasing energy and auras and such. Eh. I mean, I sort of believe that people can have bad or good auras, but “reading” one’s aura from a special photograph? Nope. What’s really funny about this Goop-letter is that Gwyneth’s “aura” proves that she really is a special person and unlike all of the Goop-peasants that work for her. Of course. This is what Radiant Human said about Gwyneth’s aura:

“I rarely see an arc of green and yellow together—as they actually present a polarity that can be hard to reconcile. Because it’s an arc, it’s either a direction GP is reaching for, or it’s something that she has in her life and holds on a pedestal.

“So in color psychology, yellow is fashioned after the sun—it’s easygoing, expansive, creative, and it also indicates intelligence. People say, ‘Oh, they’re so bright,’ or they talk about shedding light on a subject—those are qualities of yellow. It’s a capable, loving, smart, and generous color that’s also very fun.

“Green represents ambition and being career-oriented. Green wants to work long, hard hours—as long as necessary to achieve its goals. Think of the green in nature—a tree pushing toward the sun, or a vine fighting its way up a trellis—green perseveres, it has determination and focus. It can be stubborn and impatient. It can hold on tight.

“So the arc indicates a polarity: Push and pull, being generous and saving money, holding on and letting go, working hard and having fun. Mediating those energies is hard, particularly because of the presence of blue throughout the photo, including across and around GP’s face. Blue is an emotional color, and it indicates that she feels things very deeply.

“The magenta is also fascinating: It’s the combination of red and purple (rather than separate hues, like what you see in the yellow and green above), and so it’s creative willpower. The purple is visionary and high-concept—it requires believing it’s part of a positive change in the world, of imagining what the world could be. When integrated with red, it becomes action-oriented. It means that she’s actually putting it out there and making moves to turn the vision into reality.”

[From Goop]

So basically Gwyneth is all the things. All the POSITIVE things. She is the most generous, most hard-working, most understanding, most deeply emotional and feeling person in the world. I mean, you wouldn’t pay thousands of dollars to have an aura-reading for the people to tell you that you’re a self-absorbed, humble-bragging, name-dropping elitist snot, right?

Meanwhile, Gwyneth and Chris Martin are on a holiday together with their kids in Mexico. Spring break!!! You can see some photos here.
