Shailene Woodley is everywhere in NYC right now. She visited David Letterman, where he grilled Shailene about her clay swallowing. They also talked about leaky gut syndrome. Dave had a fine time trying not to laugh. Shai also chatted with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan about her exploding-salmon suitcase. I’ll concentrate on fashion in this post.
At last night’s Insurgent premiere, Shailene finally brought it in a Ralph Lauren dress with a plunging neckline and a front slit. The dress had a cool, buttony detail on the side, but it was simple enough to fit Shailene’s overall style. This is a solid New York premiere dress. She’s growing out her hair with a small ponytail, which I’m glad to see. Shailene posed with Miles Teller, who also wore Ralph Lauren (Purple Label). He may be a brat, but dude looks good in a three-piece suit. The other guys — including Ansel Elgort in Prada and Theo James in Dolce & Gabbana — are in the gallery, so we can talk about more dresses.
Suki Waterhouse chose a blush-clored Reem Acra dress with a lace overlay. She enjoys going for the princessy vibe, but the side cutouts ruin the dreamy effect of the dress. Suki pinned back her bangs – is she growing them out?
Octavia Spencer wore Tadashi Shoji. I love the top of this dress with the jacquard pattern. The skirt struck me as a little too boho, but this is a popcorn-crunching movie, so she’s having fun.
Zoe Kravitz rocked an awesome Christian Dior dress that couldn’t even be undone by a mullet. I love it. The silhouette is fresh and youthful but not too cutesey. Zoe’s jewelry is all Dior as well.
Ashley Judd went fussy with a floral Badgley Mischka gown. This dress is very pretty but too formal for a NYC screening. It would probably work for an awards show or gala.
Maggie Q fit the theme of Insurgent with a funky, futuristic Zuhair Murad gown. This is one case where sheer overly works, and the elegant, drapey skirt is a nice contrast to the intricate upper half of the dress.

This isn’t much of a story, but I figured “any Hiddles news is good news.” It’s not even really about Tom Hiddleston. Last year, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam and Mia Wasikowska began the grueling film schedule for Crimson Peak, Guillermo del Toro’s haunted house horror-thriller. The film won’t be coming out until later this year, although word is that del Toro has already completed post-production on it. The trailer was even released in front of Fifty Shades of Grey! And now it seems that del Toro is doing some special screenings for some of his horror-loving friends. The master of horror himself, Stephen King, tweeted about the film yesterday:
Was treated to a screening of Guillermo del Toro’s new movie, CRIMSON PEAK, this weekend. Gorgeous and just f–king terrifying.
CRIMSON PEAK electrified me in the same way Sam Rami’s EVIL DEAD electrified me when I saw it for the first time way back in the day.
[From King’s Twitter]
King’s son, Joe Hill, also tweeted about the screening, calling Crimson Peak “Del Toro’s blood-soaked AGE OF INNOCENCE, a gloriously sick waltz through Daphne Du Maurier territory.” Whoa!! So… this is del Toro’s masterpiece, it seems. The Academy famously hates horror/thriller films, but there are some exceptions (Silence of the Lambs, Misery, etc). I wonder if del Toro might want Crimson Peak to be an awards contender? At the very least, del Toro is probably looking for some technical nominations (costume, art design). I wonder if Benedict Cumberbatch has any regrets about giving up this part?
Here’s the trailer again:

Catch me if you can!
Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron was photographed with son Jackson, 3, in Los Angeles, Calif. on Monday (March 16). Sporting Minnie Mouse Crocs, the adorable preschooler ran ahead of mom after karate class.
Earlier that same day, the mother-son duo were seen having sushi for lunch.
The single mom – who is dating fellow actor Sean Penn – recently returned from Australia where she attended the Melbourne Grand Prix to represent her client LK Property Group.
Charlize is set to star in four upcoming films: Dark Places, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Last Face and Kubo and the Two Strings.

As we covered yesterday, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce said some really stupid/harsh things about gay parents and children born via IVF or surrogacy. The crux of Dolce & Gabbana’s argument was simple enough, in an old-world, Catholic, very conservative way: the argument was that gay parents are not as good as straight parents, because children need a mother and a father. That argument has made by many people, and for the record, it’s utter BS. But Stefano and Domenico took their argument WAY too far. This is what they said:
Gabbana said: “The only family is the traditional one. No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.” Dolce added independently, “You are born to a mother and a father — or at least that’s how it should be. I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalog.”

Elton John threw a fit and called for a boycott of D&G. Other celebrities joined Elton. And now Stefano Gabbana answers their critics in a new interview. It’s actually pretty funny – they said something wildly offensive, and when people were like “what the hell?” Gabbana is like “OMG FASCISM!!!”
Gabbana says: “We have always lived our sexuality privately, we have never shouted it out. They’re just putting words into our mouths, now. They’re saying we are against gay parenting. It’s not true. Domenico only expressed his opinion about the traditional family and about In Vitro Fertilisation. If someone else wants to make different choices, fine, they are free to do it. We demand the same respect.”
On Elton John’s boycott: “I didn’t expect this. I didn’t expect this, coming from someone whom I considered, and I stress “considered”, an intelligent person like Elton John. I mean, you preach understanding, tolerance and then you attack others? Only because someone has a different opinion? Is this a democratic or enlightened way of thinking? This is ignorance, because he ignores the fact that others might have a different opinion and that theirs is as worthy of respect as his… It’s an authoritiarian way of seeing the world: agree with me or, if you don’t, I’ll attack you. I even posted the word “Fascist!” on his Instagram.”
The reaction to the interview: “That’s weird. Nobody actually read the interview! It would have been enough to read it with an open mind to realize that this whole racket is based on nothing. The interview was used as an excuse to put into our mouths words we never really said. We are about freedom. Anyone can make the choices they want. Domenico has his ideas, he made some choices. Elton John made different choices. Different choices, different lives. Equal respect. What I see, particularly online, is a lot of gay people who are homophobic: gay people who will attack other gay people who express ideas that are different from theirs.”
Gabbana on Dolce’s comment ‘I’m gay, I cannot have children’: “That’s it! It’s not a big deal. Domenico said that he’d rather have a traditional family. It’s his opinion. He’s not comfortable with IVF. It’s all about his traditional Sicilian upbringing. I have a different opinion. We have mutual respect.”
[From Corriere]
I don’t think this would have blown up the way it did, and I don’t believe Elton John would have called for a boycott, if Dolce & Gabbana had simply stated their old-world views about gay families. People would have been offended, for sure, and there would have been some blow-back. But what really pissed people off was the stuff about “synthetic children” and “chemical offsprings.” Instead of simply saying “eh, not for me,” they insulted every family (gay, straight and other) by saying that those children weren’t real because they weren’t conceived naturally.
Oh, and check out Dolce & Gabbana’s latest ad campaign. Family values, y’all.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated St. Patrick’s Day Tuesday (March 17).
Looking beautiful in a brown coat by Catherine Walker, a matching hat by Lock & Company and suede Emmy London heels, Kate Middleton, 33, was joined by husband, Prince William, 32, for the annual ceremony with the Irish Guards in Aldershot, England.
Accessorizing her polished look with the “Citrine Drop” earrings by Kiki McDonough, the pregnant Duchess handed out sprigs of shamrock to soldiers.
The Prince, wearing his ceremonial uniform of royal Colonel of the Irish Guards, stood with his expectant wife alongside the parade of more than 200 members of the 1st battalion, cadets and veterans.
The Duchess’ coat was accessorized with her own flourish of a gold shamrock brooch, previously owned by the late Queen Mother.
On Friday, the Duke and Duchess were joined by other members of the royal family for a Service of Commemoration for troops who were stationed in Afghanistan.
Last Wednesday, the royal mum-to-be was seen visiting an art studio in Kent, and on Thursday, she toured the set of Downtown Abbey in West London.
The Duke and Duchess – who are already parents to 19-month-old son Prince George – expect their second child within weeks.

…And they called it puppy love!
So, what’s the absolute best medicine for sick days? If you don’t know, you’re about to, because The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Kyle Richards, took to Instagram yesterday to share an update on her sick daughter, Portia. Portia hasn’t been feeling well, but we think she’ll be okay, seeing as how she’s surrounded by her furry friends. Kyle captioned the absolutely adorable picture:
“The best medicine for a sick day”
Now, we certainly can’t argue with that! Portia looks extremely comfortable and cozy!
When Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey got married back in 2008, after about six weeks of dating, they revealed that they got tattoos for each other, which they showed off in People Magazine. I wrote at the time that the difference between their tattoos was incredible and that Mariah “has a small butterfly at the base of her spine with ‘Mrs. Cannon’ in script as the center line of the butterfly. It’s nearly impossible to see and you can’t tell that the center of the butterfly is actual writing unless you’re right up close.” Nick, on the other hand, had Mariah’s name tattooed across the top of his back in huge writing that you couldn’t miss. (You can see Nick’s original tattoo circled in the People cover below and also on The Daily Mail and TMZ.) So it looked like Nick was in it for life and Mariah was hedging her bets. They lasted six years, which is kind of amazing when you consider their likely dynamic.
Now that Nick and Mariah are going through a divorce and divvying up their massive assets, Nick has covered up the Mariah tattoo with a full back tribute to Jaysus. It features a crucifixion scene in the middle (which he originally got back in October) with a cherub on either side representing his twins. The bottom of Nick’s tattoo reads “Father Forgive Them, For They Know Not What They Do.” TMZ has a photo of the whole tattoo if you’re interested and they reveal that it took 30 freaking hours to get this latest work done. That’s crazy.
Nick’s new tattoo earned him the cover of Urban Ink Magazine, above, which will feature photos of the no-doubt painful process. I only have a couple of tattoos I got when I was very young, and I doubt I would do it again. I’ve considered it, but mine are relatively small and both hurt like a bitch to get. Plus there’s the issue of finding a decent artist to ink something that will be on your body until death, unless you get another tattoo or go through laser treatments.
Anyway, Nick, 34, has had a ton of tattoos done lately including a full sleeve. I’ve heard they can be cathartic and he must be going through a rough time in his divorce. He isn’t letting the grass grow under his feet, though. Nick has been linked to Nicole Murphy, 47, whom he’s been seen out with twice, including on Valentine’s Day. He also was spotted this last weekend at a grocery store in New Jersey, where he now lives, with a hot “mystery woman.” (Page Six has the photo of the two of them together, although it’s hard to tell that it’s Nick.)
Nick recently started renting an $11,000 a month, $3 million estate in Jersey with the option to buy. Mariah sold their mansion in Bel Air earlier this month for $9 million and Nick is suing to determine how the proceeds from the sale will be split between them. He claims he had no say in the sale. Compared to getting divorced, having burning needles pierce your back for hours doesn’t seem so bad.
