A few weeks ago, I covered the ongoing controversy with Lily James’s Cinderella waist. Disney had released several official images from their new live-action film, and one of the images (the header image of this post) seemed to be CGI’d or Photoshopped to give Cinderella an extra-tiny waist. There was much talk of feminism, body image, what we’re teaching our little girls, etc, etc. But Lily James says that she really does have a naturally small waist and she was wearing a tight corset, of course. Oh, and she also says that she had to go on a liquid diet to get a waist like that, so… mixed messages. Some assorted quotes from Lily James:
Naturally small waist: “I naturally have a really small waist. And on top of that, I have a corset that was pulled me [within an] inch of my life … The skirt’s big and the corset pulls me in, and that’s the point. That’s the shape [costume designer] Sandy Powell created.”
She could barely eat when she wore her costume: “When [the corset] was on we would be on continuous days so we wouldn’t stop for lunch or a lovely tea like this—you’d be sort of eating on the move. In that case, I couldn’t untie the corset. So if you ate food it didn’t really digest properly and I’d be burping all afternoon in [Richard Madden]‘s face, and it was just really sort of unpleasant. I’d have soup so that I could still eat but it wouldn’t get stuck.”
The controversy about her waist: “I think it’s all very hypocritical, and they contradict themselves, and they’re drawing more attention to it. I think all that stuff’s so negative, and you’ve got to let it wash over your head. I’m so healthy. I’ve got hips and boobs and a bum and a small waist.”
Promoting a healthy body image: “For girls growing up sometimes I think they get the wrong idea for what women should look like. And I think it’s so important to be healthy and confident and natural. And not put too much stress on trying to be thin—I don’t get the thin, thin thing at all. I’m actually finding it really hard not to eat right now.”
[From E! News]
Well… I think she’s mostly right, I guess. She’s a small girl overall, and yes, she does have a naturally small waist. The corset made her even smaller, of course. I’m unclear about whether she went on an all-liquid diet to fit into the corset and costumes or whether she could only drink her food because there was no room in the corset for solid food. But I think there was probably some post-production magic done on some of the Disney images and perhaps in the film too.

I’ve been sitting on several minor royal stories all week, hoping we would get some new photos of Duchess Kate. While Kate did step out this week – go here to see her Erdem dress – we don’t have access to those pics. And strangely enough, even though that outing probably constituted a formal public appearance, the Kensington Royal Twitter and Instagram did not post any photos. I think it’s because the outing was just for a hotel party and that doesn’t go with Kate’s “new image” as a hard-working advocate for children (keep it up, new PR guy).
So, here are some stories knocking around about Kate and William:
*You know how the Brits like to bet on everything? Well, oddsmakers say that if Kate gives birth to a girl, the name “Charlotte” is no longer the far-outpacing favorite. Alexandra has become the new favorite. I like either name, honestly. They could call her Alexis or Alexi or Lexi. It would be cute! But no one saw “George” coming, so I think we should go with something even more old-school.
*Eddie Redmayne went to Eton at the same time as Prince William, and now that Redmayne is a big Oscar-winner, people are asking him more about his connection to William. Eddie has always said that they were never close, and in a recent interview, he said that he hasn’t seen William “since school” and William didn’t send him any congratulatory messages for winning an Oscar.
*Kate will likely do her last public appearances (until after she gives birth) next week. She already had a few charity stops on her schedule, and yesterday she added a very special event for the 11th: she’s going to visit the set of Downton Abbey. And when I say “set,” I don’t mean Highclere Castle, which stands in for Downton Abbey. She’s visiting Ealing Studios, where they film the servants’ quarters and stuff. She’s going to watch some filming and pose for some photos. She’s said before that she watches Downton, so she should enjoy this.
*Kate also has lots of stalkers. They are being monitored.
*William did not bad-mouth China, even when asked point-blank about elephant mistreatment by a Chinese amusement park. He was just there for the photo-ops, people.
*Is Kate worried that her staff is spying on her and telling all of her gossip to the Queen? Gossip Cop says no, but I say… that’s the royal life. Every royal worries that their staffers are spying on them and telling other people their royal business. Half time, the staffers are spies.

The day after receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame alongside his beautiful family-of-four, actor Vince Vaughn made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
“I think Frozen is great, but it’s interesting to me because of the two ladies in the movie,” the funnyman, 44, told Ellen during Thursday’s show.
He added: “[Anna’s] all in with the first guy she meets, right? He says, ‘I love you,’ and that’s the end of it. She’s just, here’s my heart, here’s everything, and then he turns out not to be the best of choices.”
As it turns out, Vince’s 4-year-old daughter Locklyn is a big fan of the main character, Queen Elsa.
“[Elsa] doesn’t want to get too close to anyone because she’ll hurt them, she’ll freeze them and she’ll cause them pain, so she has to shut herself out,” the Unfinished Business star continued. “So I wonder what a child psychologist would say about this … [My daughter] tells me she has to shut me out. She says, ‘I’m shutting you out, I’m not good for you. I have to be far, far away.’ ”
He went on to joke about the movie’s overall message.
“A little role-playing, a little imagination is good, but I’m like, ‘Are we doing some serious damage here? ‘ And then she’ll freeze me and I’ll go along with it, so maybe I’m encouraging it,” he joked.
But it’s all in good fun for the playful father-daughter duo.
“I say to her, ‘Well, you don’t have to shut me out because if you do freeze me you’ll kiss me to unfreeze me.’ But it doesn’t change the dialogue; I’m being shut out, I’m being frozen, I’m being kissed. It’s a very complicated roller coaster,” he shared.
He added: “I don’t think I’m alone. There’s a lot of girls out there shutting people out and freezing people.”
When Locklyn isn’t playing pretend, she’s busy with her role as big sister to 18-month-old brother Vernon.
“She’s very sweet and nurturing. Sharing can be a problem sometimes, but for the most part she’s really excited,” he shared. “She’s excited that he’s staying. She really took to him. I think he’s the one that can be overwhelmed sometimes with the love and affection that comes his way.”

Proud breastfeeding mama Alyssa Milano shared a new nursing photo via Instagram Thursday.
“Make-up, hair in rollers, breastfeeding and being prepped by our producer for #TheTalk,” Milano, 42, captioned the precious photo with her 6-month-old daughter Elizabella.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a pro-breastfeeding image from the Who’s The Boss? alum. Last month, the actress shared a breastfeeding selfie with her sweet tot.
Also, she shared a nursing photo in November, and a breastfeeding selfie in October.
The actress has been serving as guest co-host on The Talk. She recently posted a sweet video with her beautiful baby girl.
Milano and her CAA agent husband David Bugliari — who were wed in 2009 — are also parents to 3-year-old son Milo.

Hayden Panettiere and Wladimir Klitschko‘s baby girl is getting so big.
The Nashville star, 25, shared a new shot of daughter Kaya, nearly 3 months, via Twitter Thursday. The sweet image shows the mother-daughter duo modeled their “epic new socks” from Stance.
The proud mom also said they have the “Coolest feet on the block if we do say so ourselves!”
In early January, we caught our first glimpse of Hayden and Wladimir’s firstborn child via social media.
Prior to welcoming her daughter on Dec. 9, 2014, the actress gushed about having a baby girl.
“I’m thrilled that I am having a girl first because I feel like I know a lot about raising a strong woman,” she said. “I feel very empowered myself and I think my daughter will, too.”
I can feel you long hair advocates hahaha-ing in my face. Because Jared Leto cut it…
And bleached it.
And I know the majority of you hate it.
I hate it with the blazer.
But do you remember when Beckham bleached his? I loved it.
While she has been very open about her struggles with infertility, Giuliana Rancic and husband Bill Rancic are still hoping to bring home a sibling for their 2-year-old son Duke. The candid E! News star, 40, says she has only one frozen embryo left.
“This could be our last shot,” Giuliana told Life & Style. “We’re keeping our fingers crossed that everything works out.”
Although she’d love to have another child, the Fashion Police star – who received major backlash last week after making an offensive comment on TV – is sure to count her blessings.
“If I don’t ever have another kid, I have to remind myself that I’m very fortunate to have what I have,” she shared.
Giuliana went through three rounds of IVF treatments before finding out she had breast cancer. The couple put their plans to start a family on hold while Giuliana underwent a double mastectomy.
After beating cancer, the Rancics turned to Delphine, the surrogate who would later deliver Duke, but Delphine suffered a miscarriage with their second child in 2014.
“We struggled for so many years to have a baby, and now that it has come true we really enjoy each and every moment with Duke,” Giuliana shared with Celebrity Baby Scoop.
She added: “This year has been incredible and also tough. I wouldn’t say this has been the most challenging year, because my most challenging year was when I had breast cancer. However, it has been a challenging time, because I love my baby so much and want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to ensure he’s safe, healthy, and happy. Bill and I have given it our all this year and it’s been a lot of work. At the same time, it’s been incredibly rewarding and we’ve loved every minute of it.”
