Kristen Stewart covers the Spring edition of Wonderland Magazine. The editorial was shot by Hedi Slimane. I kind of think Slimane is overrated as a photographer – he almost always does black & white, girls are always dressed as tomboys, and there’s usually very little “spark”. Especially here with K-Stew – the only spark is her lighter as she sparks up another cigarette. So hardcore, K-Stew! Her Wonderland interview isn’t wildly offensive, which is a nice change of pace. She talks about feminism and it’s all well and good. And then she chats about her future art projects and I laughed. Sorry, girl. Some highlights:
Reverse-Feminism: “It’s silly to play the devil’s advocate when having a conversation about female roles in Hollywood, because then you’re doing this “reverse feminism” thing that has become weirdly trendy recently.”
Generational feminism: “I feel like some girls around my age are less inclined to say, ‘Of course I’m a feminist, and of course I believe in equal rights for men and women’, because there are implications that go along with the word feminist that they feel are too in-your-face or aggressive. A lot of girls nowadays are like, ‘Eww, I’m not like that’. They don’t get that there’s no one particular way you have to be in order to stand for all of the things feminism stands for.’
Her short film about water: “I wrote a sick short film that I’m really proud of. It’s more abstract rather than super-narrative. It’s like a poem; it’s about water. People ask, ‘Why not just direct a feature?’ But I want to play around first. I want to have experience. I think the first thing I’m going to make will live in the in-between moments.”
[From Metro]
“It’s like a poem; it’s about water” is going to be my new go-to answer for everything. You don’t get me. You don’t understand my vision. This post is like a poem. It’s about water. My life is like a poem. It’s about water. And yes, of course K-Stew is not interested in “super-narrative.” She made a short film about one perfect water drop. It’s going to be such a hit at the Hipsters-Only Short Film Garage Band Festival.
As for the feminism stuff, I think she’s dead-on and I hope her words reach some of her younger fans. How is it that Kristen Stewart has a more coherent take on modern feminism than Kaley Cuoco?

Last night, Blake Lively made her first public appearance since giving birth. She only gave birth in early January, and look… she’s already lost all the baby weight. Not that she even gained that much, you know. Out of all the ladies who were pregnant over the past year, I kind of think Blake had the prettiest and most glowing pregnancy. Anyway, she looked pretty last night at the Gabriela Cadena fashion show during New York Fashion Week. She came out to the event with her mom. I wonder if Ryan was with the baby?
As we discussed yesterday, the rumor going around is that Blake and Ryan named their daughter James. JAMES. I think that’s probably the case – the baby name reveal came before a flurry of activity for Blake, you know? That’s her M.O. She made sure people heard the name, then she steps out for her first postpartum appearance in the same news cycle. And just by the way, another trailer for her film, The Age of Adeline, was just released too.
By the way, a lot of people have been mocking Blake’s ode to the “blues” for Valentine’s Day on her Preserve site. She declares that “pink is out this year—blue is in” and she name-checks Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. Another Alluring Age of Artisanal Antebellum Alliteration it is. You can read’s Blake stupid Preserve V-Day thing here.

Will Smith covers the March issue of Esquire to promote Focus, his heist film with Margot Robbie. Will’s aiming for a comeback after some underperforming films. This is probably Xenu’s fault. Will’s bummed at how After Earth didn’t strike gold. It’s no wonder. Critics described the film was incredibly obvious Scientology propaganda. Hollywood still hasn’t learned lessons from Battlefield Earth. Get thee behind me, Xenu.
This is a long interview. Smith waxes philoshophical about his career, fame, fitness, Ferguson, and parenting. Will’s haven’t attended school in years. Remember the whole quantum physics discussion with Jaden and Willow? They said “education is useless.” Will says Jaden is basically living like a monk (in a fancy mansion) because “the younger generation is less of an ownership generation.” HA. My feeling on Jaden not caring about money is this — it’s easy to think money isn’t necessary when you aren’t hurting for it. Some highlights:
On fame: “I have the spirit of desire to make people’s lives better. Being famous is such a gift for me because small things make people’s lives brighter. You just shake somebody’s hand. You just smile and write your name and people will talk about it for the rest of their lives.”
On Ferguson: “It’s been rough for me trying to find my position in the struggle and where my voice is needed and helpful. You know, I grew up in Philadelphia, and Philadelphia has a really rough police-brutality history. I grew up in a neighborhood where it was very clear that the police were ‘them’ and we were ‘us.’ I also know that when I was seventeen years old, I had a $20,000 car, which made it certain that I got pulled over all the time. I had a red IROC-Z, the full stereo system and the rims and the paint job.”
On staying “cut” at age 46: “I like to look good, but I like my body to function well more than anything. For me, it’s as spiritual and intellectual as it is physical. And emotional. I enjoy pushing myself. There is nothing like having to change your physical form to put you in contact with every weak part of yourself, to train yourself in discipline. You get confronted with all of the things you’ll be confronted with in your marriage, confronted with in your parenting, confronted with in your job. Put somebody on a treadmill and I’ll tell you how good they are at any other thing they do in life.”
On living like a pseudo monk: It’s such a strange thing. Jaden, my sixteen-year-old, he has one pair of shoes. He has three pair of pants and he has five shirts. Total. He has refused to be a slave to money. I so respect that. The younger generation is less of an ownership generation, anyway. And it’s such an interesting thing to watch, because I came from a middle-class background, but, you know, our lights and gas would be cut off from not paying the bill. I grew up in a house where you would need the kerosene heaters in the winter in case the bills didn’t get paid. And he’s from the complete other end of the spectrum. And it’s so interesting to me that from growing up in that space, he could see the need for things in a way that he’s rejecting. He’s like, ‘I’m not gonna let myself need things in that way’ — but I would like him to get another pair of shoes.”
[From Esquire]
Smith also says, “I’m past cars and jewelry, you know? I don’t even wear a watch.” Well not as many people wear watches anymore. Everyone has a clock on their phone. Unless you enjoy wearing a watch or need GPS capabilities, there’s no reason to wear one. Yahoo says Will is full of it because he and Jaden raved about Cartier watches in a 2013 interview.
I don’t think it’s a matter of Will consciously lying about Jaden’s austeric ways. Will is simply clueless and has no idea what’s really going on with his kids. Jaden is extremely materialistic without realizing it. He pitched a fit on Twitter about not being invited to the Grammys. Oh, and he definitely has more than one pair of shoes. Jaden Instagrammed photos of himself wearing both Uggs & Nikes during the past week.

Even though Benedict Cumberbatch directly confirmed the fact that he is NOT moving to LA any time soon – because of his friends, family and Sophie, in that order – The Daily Mail is still claiming that Bendy has bought himself a sprawling LA estate. The Mail has the photos too – go here to see. For what it’s worth, I think the Mail is just repeating the older story from another UK paper. I don’t even think the Mail realizes that Bendy shot down this particular rumor at the BAFTAs.
What else? Well, Benedict has a new interview with Nightline. You can see the video here, but I’m embedding it below too. It’s a really short interview and they go on and on about how Benedict is “famous on the internet.”
World News Videos | ABC World News
He says he’s not on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and that there lots of people on Instagram pretending to be him. But the Sophie part is interesting. When asked about Sophie in general, he says, “She’s great… she’s very cool.” When asked, “Even about the Cumberfollowing?” he goes off in what I can only think of as a warning to the most aggressive Cumberbitches:
“Yeah, she’s fine. True fans know that they’re treading on something which is very dear and private to me… yeah, I think it should be [private]. There’s somebody who’s going to come into the world as our child and I…I’d ask people to respect that fact.”
SHOTS FIRED! No, I tend to think he is trying to tell his fans to cool it a bit. We’ll see how that works out. Ha.
