What do Michael Jackson and Albert Einstein have in common…besides pure genius? Both their brains are in a glass jar-at least for the time being.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office says it’s holding onto a section of the late King of Pop’s brain as part of its investigation into how he died.
Because toxicology tests take several weeks and are not yet complete, a coroner spokesman says pathologists need to wait for the organ to harden before they can conduct neuropathology tests to help determine what caused Jackson’s apparent cardiac arrest and subsequent death.
Investigators have focused on the possibility that Jackson accidentally overdosed on a potent anesthetic, and a thorough examination of brain tissue might shed some light on what drugs were in his system.
The coroner’s office has told Jackson relatives they have the option of burying Michael without the missing portion of his brain, or they can wait until tests are done and the tissue returned to its original place before finally laying him to rest.
That could explain why relatives have yet to hold a burial service for the late pop star.
The whereabouts of his remains are not known, having disappeared from public view following yesterday’s poignant public memorial; while, a family friend claimed Michael would be back at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where a private funeral service was held earlier Tuesday, his body is not there, a source tells E! News.
Jackson’s death certificate, signed by his sister La Toya, was also issued Tuesday, listing the cause of death as "deferred." A burial permit filed with the Los Angeles County’s Office of Vital Records has not been made public."
Michael Jackson‘s casket will reportedly be transported to his public memorial held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles – Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton told The Associated Press on Tuesday morning.
“Mr. Jackson’s remains will be going to the Staples Center. We’re not giving any details,” Chief William Bratton told reporters.
The public memorial is slated to begin at 10 AM PST.
As previously reported, Stevie Wonder, Usher, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Magic Johnson, Smokey Robinson, and John Mayer are among the superstar guests set to participate in the service.
A private memorial for the King of Pop – who passed away on June 25 at the age of 50 – will be held this morning at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The service will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
No word yet on what song the reportedly pregnant Oscar winner will perform at tomorrow’ funeral.
The network is also reporting that the event will be produced by Ken Ehrlich, who has previously produced the Grammy Awards. The director of Jackson’s memorial will be Kenny Ortega, who was set to co-direct the singer’s O2 shows in London later this month.
Despite early reports stating that Michael Jackson’s ex-wife, Debbie Rowe, would be in attendance at tomorrow’s Staples Center memorial in honor of the late singer, a rep for the former nurse says Rowe has decided to stay home instead.
During an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America on Monday, Marc Schaffel, a former business associate of Michael’s, said Rowe would be attending the public memorial and had been offered seats in the VIP section reserved for friends and family.
However, Rowe’s attorney released the following statement to the press this afternoon:
“Although Debbie had originally planned to attend tomorrow’s Staples Center memorial service, we have concluded with Debbie that she will not be attending. The onslaught of media attention has made it clear her attendance would be an unnecessary distraction to an event that should focus exclusively on Michael’s legacy. Debbie will continue to celebrate Michael’s memory privately.”
The untimely passing of Michael Jackson has sparked new interest in the whereabouts of a furry blast from the King of Pop’s past. Whatever happened to Michael’s pet chimp, Bubbles? During his years living with the singer backs in the 1980s, the adorable pet chimp was treated almost like a child – wearing diapers, using a toilet, and reportedly learning to do his famous owner’s signature Moonwalk dance move.
CNN has learned that Bubbles, now 26, is alive and thriving at the Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida.
Bubbles was born in a biomedical laboratory in 1983 and purchased as a young chimp by an entertainment trainer and eventually acquired by MJ.
Bubbles moved to the Center for Great Apes in 2005.
According to the Center’s website, Bubbles “is able to throw sand with amazing accuracy, he is extremely gentle with the youngsters, especially infant [chimp] Stryker. In fact, the baby can often be seen riding around on Bubbles’ back.”
“Bubbles can be sensitive and dramatic. If he has any kind of cut or scratch on his body.no matter how small. he will show it many times during the day to his caregivers and ask for sympathy,” his caregivers report.
Interested parties can “adopt” Bubbles: “For a donation of $150, you will receive an adoption certificate, frame quality photograph with biography, and become a member of the sanctuary for one year. For $10,000 you can become my exclusive adoptive “parent” for one full year and have the opportunity for a unique overnight stay in a guest cabin on sanctuary grounds.”
Michael Jackson’s will was filed Wednesday in a Los Angeles court, giving his entire estate to a family trust and cutting out his father, Joe Jackson, and former wife Debbie Rowe.
The will, dated July 7, 2002, estimated his estate at that time at more than $500 million.
The document gives the entire estate to the Michael Jackson Family Trust.
The will confirms that Michael’s mom, 79-year-old Katherine Jackson, was appointed by her son to take custody of his three children and the star’s lifelong idol Diana Ross was appointed as guardian if Katherine is unable or unwilling to care for them.
In regards to Michael’s former wife, nurse Debbie Rowe, the will reads:
“Except as otherwise provided in this Will or in the Trust hereof, I have intentionally omitted to provide for my heirs. I have intentionally omitted to provide for my former wife, Deborah Jean Rowe.”
Did Michael Jackson want his longtime pal and fellow singing legend Diana Ross to become the guardian of his three minor kids?
A source tells The Hollywood Reporter’s resident celebrity snitch Roger Friedman that Michael’s 2002 will – set to be filed in a Los Angeles Court Wednesday – states that he wants the “I’m Coming Out” singer to care for his children; Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and Blanket, 7; if anything prevents his mother, Katherine Jackson, from doing so.
Michael and Diana were labelmates on the Motown Records imprint from the late 60s through the early ’80s. The pair went on to co-star together in the 1977 urban musical The Wiz.
Michael Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray was interviewed by the LAPD on Sunday for three hours is now free to travel if he wants to as he is not considered a suspect.
Murray’s mouthpiece said the doctor plans on staying in town “out of the goodness of his heart” and he “wants to help out as much as possible.”
The LAPD released the following statement after the interview:
“Dr. Conrad Murray, the physician who was with Michael Jackson at the time of his collapse, voluntarily contacted the Los Angeles Police Department. Detectives assigned to Robbery-Homicide Division met with Dr. Murray and conducted an extensive interview. Dr. Murray was cooperative and provided information which will aid the investigation.”
Michael Jackson had a habit of getting Demerol injections — he even had a special name for them.
We’re told Jackson called it "health tonic." He would have a doctor inject him because, we’re told, he didn’t like needles.
Our sources have told us Jackson was injected with Demerol at 11:30 AM the day he died. Shortly thereafter Jackson went into cardiac arrest.
You’ll recall, Jackson also had a name for wine — Jesus juice.
What flashed through your mind in the moment when you first heard about Michael Jackson’s death? Before the psychologists, professional and amateur, drew the comparisons between him and Elvis, another musical king with a Christ complex who built an enclosed world for himself to avoid dealing with reality? Before conspiracy theorists started floating theories of drug overdose, suicide, murder or feigned death? Before pundits started recounting the tales of plastic surgery, molestation and megalomania? Before the crocodile tears and official press statements of countless current and former celebrities?
