In this week’s Us Weekly, “sources” make a bold claim: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt “WANT to adopt a little girl from Syria.” The source is a “pal of the pair” and this pal says the adoption (or the want of an adoption) is “in the works.” Not surprisingly, Brad Pitt’s rep shut it down to Us Weekly and to other media outlets. People Magazine went with a denial from “sources close to the couple”:

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will not be adopting from Syria, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE.

The couple, who have six children, have been rumored by multiple outlets to be expanding their family with a Syria adoption, but sources close to the couple say it is “totally false” and “absolutely not true.”

But! People Mag notes at the end of their story that they asked Angelina last December if she was planning to add to her family and she said: “Not at the moment, no. I don’t imagine so, but something could change tomorrow, so I don’t know.” Which makes it sound like it’s not so crazy to suggest that Brad and Angie aren’t done completely, right? That they still think about it. Here’s the problem with the “adopt a Syrian girl” story though: Angelina knows well enough that it’s really difficult to legally adopt refugees in conflict zones. Like, it’s a legal quagmire. It’s not just popping into a refugee camp and grabbing a kid.

And here’s one more interesting little note – Us Weekly briefly discusses Angelina’s work with the UNHCR and says that her focus in the coming years is going to be more politically focused and “Her dream is to be an ambassador.” Like, appointed by the president to a live in an ambassador’s mansion in some country? I could see that, actually. Although becoming a United States ambassador would probably mean she would have to withdraw from her position at the UN.
