When Dame Helen Mirren appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last Tuesday, she did what she does best – rendered someone speechless. After Stephen introduced her, Dame Helen walked confidently on stage and planted a very sexy “hello” kiss on his lips, something she says she has wanted to do for fifteen years:
Helen Mirren… stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Tuesday, and when she was introduced she walked out onto the set and planted one right on the host’s lips. Her unexpectedly warm welcome left Stephen Colbert in shock—and speechless.
“If I didn’t do it then I’d never get to do it,” explained Mirren, who was addressing a still-stunned Colbert. “I’ve been dreaming of doing that for about 15 years, so I just grabbed my chance. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
By the look on his face, Colbert was not sorry!
“I suddenly can’t remember any questions…you know what you’re doing. You really know what you’re doing,” Colbert joked. “Thank you so much for being here. Can you imagine the number of people who are jealous of me right now?”
The Oscar winner admitted that even she was jealous of herself.
“Including me!” she joked. “Why didn’t I do more?”
“The night is young, Dame Helen.”

You saucy minx! I think if I could socially acceptably plant one on Stephen Colbert I would too. His reaction was priceless, he just stood there motionless as she sashayed to her seat. Helen loves to flirt; she got Paul Rudd to kiss her on Graham Norton because he was telling a story about kissing Jack Nicholson, on whom she has a crush. I am sure her husband Taylor Hackford is confident enough that he finds this all humorous. I love to flirt and I married a flirt so I can relate. Plus it’s Stephen Colbert and Paul Rudd, take the opportunity when you have it, amirite?
Helen is starring in the film Eye in the Sky in a role that was originally written for a man. Helen, who notably said her feminism was “f-cking obvious”, discussed her thoughts on women in Hollywood, “I’ve witnessed such incredible change in my life that sometimes it makes me overly optimistic, and I think I’m wrong to be overly optimistic. The more women who are visible in the film industry, the more young women will say, ‘Hey, I want to do that.’ The tsunami is coming.” Fingers crossed.
