Melania Trump is not going to be moving to Washington DC next month. She might not ever move to DC, although right now the story is that she’s not going to disrupt Barron’s school year, and the issue will be revisited next summer, basically. So President-elect Trump is looking for a wife-type figure, a woman who can serve as hostess, confidante, and wife surrogate. Everyone thought that person would clearly be Ivanka Trump (Trump’s favorite child), but she kept insisting that she didn’t want to move DC either. Well, guess what? She’s moving to DC.
With 46 days until her father Donald Trump‘s January 20, 2017 inauguration, Ivanka Trump has set her sights on some real estate in the nation’s capital. he future first daughter and her husband Jared Kushner, along with their three children Arabella, 5, Joseph, 3, and 8-month-old Theodore, are planning a move from New York City to Washington D.C.
“Everyone is adjusting to these new circumstances during the transition period, and while Ivanka has no intention of taking a formal role in the administration, she plans to be an advocate for issues she cares deeply about,” a source close to Ivanka tells PEOPLE. “The team is working hard on the final stages of vetting the structure that will be put in place in leading the Trump organization to avoid even the appearance of any conflict of interest. We look forward to providing updates on the corporate structure and other details next week.”
Ivanka serves as Executive Vice President of Development & Acquisitions of the Trump Organization, based in N.Y.C., and also has own line of clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories. Jared is a real estate developer who owns properties in the New Jersey and New York markets. The pair, who were appointed to Trump’s Presidential Transition Team Executive Committee, took on very active roles during the election with the mother of three stumping across the country and speaking at the Republican National Convention in July on behalf of her father. And in November, she sat in on her father’s meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. On Monday, Ivanka and Donald met with Al Gore to discuss climate change during a “lengthy and very productive” meeting, according to Gore.
In addition, the president-elect requested that Kushner be allowed to sit in on his Presidential Daily Briefings. Though Kushner will be heavily involved, anti-nepotism laws could prevent him from holding an official federal job.

This week’s rumor is that Ivanka is going to be her father’s Climate Czar, and that rumor has legs following her meeting with Al Gore yesterday. As for Jared…Trump would love to put Jared in any position, basically. I think Jared is one of the few people Trump trusts completely, and their relationship is still so weird to me. Like, is Jared the son Donald Trump never had but always wanted? Does Jared see Trump as a father figure? I have no idea. But I’m absolutely sure that Ivanka and Jared will be deeply involved in the Trump administration. What’s also a little bit funny to me is that if and when Trump puts his company into a “blind trust” (or “whatever”), I’m sure that he would have loved to simply hand the business over to his favorite child, Ivanka. Like, he wishes he could clone her so she could run the business AND be in Washington with him. But Trump won’t worry about that too much – I’m sure she will be working in the administration and running the business! Because that’s the country we live in now.
Also: why are they house-hunting? Why not just move into the White House?
