Newlyweds Jason Aldean and Brittany Kerr cover the latest issue of Us Weekly with his daughters – Keeley, 12, and Kendyl, 7 – and open up about their surprise nuptials in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
On Saturday (March 21), the country crooner, 38, married his American Idol alum love, 27, in a picturesque seaside ceremony.
Guests of the intimate ceremony included Duck Dynasty star Willie Robertson – who also served as officiate – and Jason’s daughters from his 12-year marriage to Jessica Ussery.
Kerr walked down the aisle barefoot to John Legend’s All of Me in a long-sleeve lace Pnina Tornai gown. “She looked beautiful,” Aldean gushed to the mag. “I was so excited to see her.”
Keeping everything a secret, the couple skipped formal invitations and opted to ask their wedding guests to fly to Mexico. When the guests arrived, including Kerr’s mom, the couple revealed their wedding plans.
“I just said, ‘Hey, it’s going to be a blast. Think of it as a fun surprise and don’t ask any questions,’” Kerr told the mag.
While the couple tried to keep with tradition, they just had to fall asleep together the night before.
“I wanted to build anticipation for the walk down the aisle,” Kerr said, but ultimately, they couldn’t do it. “We don’t like being apart,” she revealed. “We get separation anxiety.”
Aldean added: “She left before I woke up, so technically I didn’t see her the day of the wedding.”
The controversial couple wed nearly two years after they first got together — when Aldean was still wed to his high school sweetheart.
“We’ve been through so much, and we always wanted this to be the outcome,” Kerr shared. “That we get to spend the rest of our lives together is really, really breathtaking.”
So will the happy couple be adding to their family anytime soon?
“We definitely want kids—we’re crossing our fingers for a boy,” Kerr shared. “But we’ll probably start in a couple of years. I want to enjoy being married to him and experiencing the ride.”
