About a month ago, Selena Gomez hit the beach in Mexico with friends. She Instagrammed this swimsuit photo with the following caption: “I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove.” This pic was a direct response to a ridiculous amount of body shaming after Selena wore a bikini. Internet trolls mercilessly bashed her figure. The problem wasn’t Selena’s figure, of course. This was a fug bright pink bikini that wouldn’t have looked good on anyone.

Selena may have gained a small amount of weight over the past year. She’s a little curvier and looks fantastic. The criticism is depressing and sexist (because Leonardo DiCaprio and the Dadbods are celebrated for their bodies). Selena did a Google Hangout to support her adidas Neo collection. She seemed to be addressing the body shamers when she talked about bullying:

What she’d change about the world: “Bullying. I’d get rid of bullying. People are so mean, it’s exhausting.”

What is the meaning of life? “I’m 22 … I’ll let you know in a couple of years … If I’m not enjoying what I’m doing, then I’m doing something wrong. I think life is very, very, very hard and I’ve never had anything come super easy to me no matter what people may think, and I continue to be the best I can be and I just want to enjoy it. We only have one life and it is very precious, there’s a lot that we can do and there’s a lot that we should do. If you’re good and you’re kind to other people and you work hard and you’re actually doing something with your life, I think that’s so fulfilling.”

What she’s doing now: “I’ve been endlessly working on my new album, that’s almost kind of close to being done. So I’ve been working in Mexico — I’ve been in the studio constantly, and I’m so anxious for you guys to see everything and hear everything. But just know that it’s the best that I’ve ever done and you guys won’t be disappointed. I wish I could play it for you now but I can’t.”

Her guilty pleasure: “I kind of like the idea of being scared, I don’t know why. Maybe I should be in a scary movie.”

Selena sounds like she’s gained some healthy perspective on life since last year, which was seriously messy. She took a trip to rehab but left a month early. Then she started walking around with her cheeks out and pitched a crying fit at Taylor Swift’s birthday party. Selena has since calmed down. She dated Zedd for months, but they reportedly broke up in April with a lack of drama. Most importantly, Selena’s stayed away from Justin Bieber. That’s a huge step. Swaggy tried to reel her back in by telling TMZ how “gorgeous” Selena looked at the Met Ball. She reportedly told him off and “called him out on his sh*t.”

FYI, Selena’s acting career may be on the upswing. She just filmed a cameo for The Big Short (which stars Brad Pitt, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and an oddly buff Christian Bale).
