Things have been relatively quiet in Tori Spelling-land since she got voted off of Dancing with the Stars last fall. She’s still doing her podcast, though, and as such, she’s still saying the darndest things. On this week’s episode, Tori talked about how much she hates drinking water. She actually hates it so much that she has an “aversion” to it. Part of this stems from her mom tricking her to take meds via liquids when she was a kid, and part of it is anxiety that someone is trying to poison her in general. Whatever it is, Tori is adamant about not drinking water.
Tori Spelling says “I hate water” and goes to great lengths to avoid drinking it, opting for coconut water or soda instead.
“I don’t drink water. And when I say I don’t drink water, I don’t drink water,” Spelling, 51, said on the March 11 episode of her podcast MisSPELLING. “How I’m still living, no one knows. I’m like a cacti. Just water me once in a while, and I somehow survive. But I have an aversion to it.”
She shared that she also struggles with thinking her drinks are poisoned, explaining that when ex Dean McDermott recently handed her a ginger ale, she thought he put something in it.
“I’m Aaron Spelling’s daughter, hello,” she said, referencing her late father, who produced successful soaps like Dynasty, Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place — or as she called him, “The creator of drama-rama storytelling.”
She said McDermott told her, “ ‘You’re the mother of my children. Why would I want to poison you?’ And I was like, ‘Listen. It’s not personal. I think this about everybody.’ ”
The 90210 alum said that when her mother, Candy, would give her medication as a child, she’d have to mash it up with Coke syrup, and “I would say, ‘What’d you put in here? Like, what are you giving me?’ And she would say the same thing: ‘What, you think I’m trying to poison you?’ ”
“This goes back to childhood,” Spelling continued. “This crazy, irrational fear of handed over liquids from other people. I don’t drink water. I don’t call it a fear of water. I just like to say I hate water. I have an allergy to water.”
The mom of five — she shares Liam Aaron, 17, Stella Doreen, 16, Hattie Margaret, 13, Finn Davey, 12, and Beau Dean, 8 with McDermott — said that she forced herself to drink water when she was pregnant “because you have to hydrate the baby growing in you. But in my mind, I was like, ‘I’m drinking for them, not myself.’ ”
She shared that she will drink ginger ale (when things are “stressful”) or Diet Dr. Pepper (when “I’m thriving”) but said. “I’m trying this new thing since I don’t like water. I’m like, okay, I actually enjoy the taste of coconut water.”
“I can guzzle, like, a glass of wine in, like, two seconds. No problem,” Spelling quipped. “But I take a few sips of water and swallow gently, and all of a sudden, I’m like, ‘I wanna puke.’ ”
Woah boy. As always, there is so much to unpack here. It’s not the water thing. I’m a big water drinker, but there are plenty of people who don’t like the taste of plain water. My own husband prefers a little flavor to his water. That’s why those little flavored MiO water enhancers and flavored sparkling waters are so popular. Someone should seriously tell her that there are options to make water taste more palatable. Plus, it’s good for you. It helps keep your organs running smoothly and helps keep your skin from looking dried out.
Anyway, what’s noticeable here is Tori’s whole fear that someone is going to poison her drink. Dean is a lot of things, but he strikes me as someone who is way too lazy to poison anyone’s drink. I’m also not saying “poor little rich girl,” but Tori clearly has a lot of unresolved issues from her childhood that she really needs to address and work through. Having those types of fears is no way to live.
