Glen Powell was recently a Hollywood Reporter cover story, where they basically went all-in on the idea that Glen is the next big thing. I disagree, but I will say this – that man has been hustling for years, taking smaller roles and saying yes to every job he was offered, so I don’t really begrudge Glen his newfound success. I just don’t think he’s really got “it” and I think that’s why his attempts to become a movie star fell flat for so many years. But here we are! Glen covered a recent issue of GQ Hype, all to promote Hit Man and Twisters (a sort of revival of the ‘90s classic). Glen is genuinely enjoying his new fame but he still has scar tissue over just how many roles he never got. Some highlights:
On Batman: “I was always a Batman guy. I would have a wild take on Batman. It definitely would not be like a Matt Reeves tone – it’d probably be closer to Keaton. Oh, sick!” Although he hasn’t played Batman, he has been pretty close. “I get my head smashed in by Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.”
He’s not a nepo baby: “When you have no one championing you, you feel like you’re adrift.” He would wake up every day and look at casting breakdowns, film unsolicited auditions, find out casting directors’ contact information and get a friend of his who worked in sales to call them on his behalf. “I was like, this town’s gonna kick me out regardless. You might as well kick down every door you possibly can.”
The roles he never got: He missed out on what would become Josh Hartnett’s role in Oppenheimer by a slim margin, he says, but he’s still in touch with Christopher Nolan, and has faith that they’ll get to do something together soon. Throughout his early-to-mid twenties, Powell, who is now 35, found himself auditioning for – and ultimately losing out on – parts that went on to turbocharge the careers of his peers. In his eyes, he screwed up his audition to play Captain America. He came extremely, agonisingly close to playing Han Solo in Solo (Disney went with Alden Ehrenreich). “I can joke about it now,” he says, “[but] I blew that final audition.” Each time, it felt like he had missed his big chance.
He blew the audition for 2015’s The Longest Ride to Scott Eastwood. “I remember Marty Bowen, who was the producer, just looking at me like, ‘Yeah, this is not going well.’”
He came across as too needy: “He was like, ‘Hey man, you gotta be less punctual, like a little more cool actor-y.’ There’s definitely a bit of a game [to the whole thing]. It was clear to me very early on that it’s not a meritocracy, and I still believe that. I still believe that the best guy doesn’t necessarily get the job. You can’t just be good – you also have to be very lucky. All these guys who didn’t give a sh-t and just phoned it in were working.”
Glen also talks about how various “types” come into vogue and suddenly every script references that type – a Robert Pattinson brooding-type, a delicate Timothee Chalamet-type, etc. Which I think is true, and it also sort of explains why Glen is sort of out of sync with his “Hollywood generation.” Hollywood isn’t really looking for forgetably-attractive beefcake movie stars right now? Anyway, I’ll give him a chance because I appreciate the fact that he’s not a nepo baby and that he hustled his ass off to get here. But I’m still mad about it!

Spoilers for Season 1 of The Acolyte
And just like that, Season 1 of Disney’s latest addition to the Star Wars Franchise, The Acolyte, is in the books. The finale was action-packed and full of reveals and cliffhangers. While I agree with the criticism that the show had uneven pacing in its earlier episodes, I genuinely enjoyed it and looked forward to watching each week. I loved that we abandoned all of the usual characters and finally got to see some new storylines and other aspects of canon that we haven’t seen before. Hell, we didn’t even get a glimpse of two famous characters until they briefly flashed across the screen during the finale! Before Season 1 even ended, speculation has already begun about a second season. It hasn’t been renewed yet, which I personally think is a shame. You do not give us Manny Jacinto’s abs, arms, killer lightsaber skills, and mysterious background and then just suddenly take it all away.
Has The Acolyte been renewed? Disney and Lucasfilm haven’t announced a renewal yet. However, in an extremely in depth interview with Nerdist, Headland promised a satisfying conclusion to the first season while implying there’s still a lot more story she’d like to unpack.
“We definitely aren’t going to leave you hanging,” she said. “You do a show like this, you take a lot of risks, you don’t really save a lot of those types of questions for season 2.”
When asked, “Do you know if you’re definitely getting a season 2?”
She laughed and replied, “No!” then continued, “I have no idea. Well, not that I have no idea. I would say there are conversations. And I don’t know when that will happen. I don’t know when that decision will be made.”
What would a second season of The Acolyte be about? When the show was announced in 2020, LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy, described the show on Disney Investor Day by saying, “The Acolyte is a mystery thriller that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”
The series follows a Padawan who seeks out her former Jedi Master to investigate a series of Jedi murders. That Padawan is Amandla Stenberg, playing both Osha and Mae, twins who were split from one consciousness using the Force. And Osha appears to have some romantic feelings for Jacinto’s Qimir, which could be a key point if the show gets a season 2.
Who would be in the cast? In season 1, the show starred Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, Manny Jacinto, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, Margarita Levieva, Lauren Brady, Leah Brady, and Harry Trevaldwyn. Anyone who lives through the first eight episodes could potentially make a return.
While Forbes doesn’t think that The Acolyte will get a second season, I’m thinking positively. I’ve read a lot online about people being mostly bored with the twins’ storyline, but I think it finished strong. I want to point out that in the Filoni Era, most of the Star Wars series that we’ve come to absolutely love, like Clone Wars, have had slow starts with their first seasons. The Acolyte really picked up after the groundwork was laid in the earlier episodes.
After those cliffhangers, I’m all-in for a second season. I want to know what happens with Qimir and Osha! Showrunner Leslye Headland confirmed that the creature in the cave was none other than Darth Plageuis himself. Since we know the Rule of Two states that there can only be two Sith, the master and the apprentice, and we know that Emperor Palpatine eventually becomes Darth Plagueis’ apprentice, I’m so curious to know what’s in store for Osha and Manny Jancito’s hotness. I also want to know what happened to Qimir when he was Vernestra Rwoh’s apprentice and what his relationship with Sol was. And where is Mother Koril, who has to still be alive, out there somewhere?! It can’t be a coincidence that she’s the same species as the Nightsisters and future Sith apprentice Darth Maul. There’s so much storytelling left to tell! So that’s where I stand. I am more than willing to watch a second season of The Acolyte. I hope Disney ignores the naysayers and gives us more.

Kim Gordon is the 71-year-old icon who co-founded Sonic Youth. She is a bassist, guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, everything. She was married to Thurston Moore for nearly 30 years (they divorced in 2013). Kim is still around and she still has opinions about pop culture, music, travel and life in general. She recently spoke to the Guardian about all of the above, and she happened to mention that she’s not really a fan of Taylor Swift. What happens if the Swifties come for Kim Gordon?
Guardian: Who is the most famous person in your phone?
KG: Kristen Stewart. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
My mother once said, “Never give any money to political causes, because they won’t leave you alone after that.” I didn’t adhere to it. But it is true.Do you have a party trick?
Leaving without saying goodbye.Which word that you hate the most?
“Creative”. Or “creatives”. I feel like that’s overly used, along with “trigger” and “trauma” and “journey”.What’s your most controversial pop culture opinion?
I don’t know if it’s controversial but I’m not really a fan of Taylor Swift. I couldn’t tell you what her music sounded like, actually. When it comes to pop icons, I would choose Billie Eilish.
Kim actually mentioned her ambivalence (?) towards all things Swift in an interview several months ago. She was asked if she would ever tour with someone like Taylor and Kim admitted, “I don’t think her audience would like it” and “I couldn’t tell you what her music sounds like, but I was on a plane with all her fans recently on the way to Utah and they were all wearing merch. That I quite like. I think I’d just take a sweatshirt.” LMAO – it’s like Aretha Franklin’s “beautiful gowns” comment! Could not tell you the name of a Taylor Swift song but the merch is nice. My hope is that the Swifties treat Kim Gordon’s comments as a minor swipe from an icon. Kim didn’t even trash Taylor, Kim just said she’s not really a fan. Just say “fair enough, Taylor’s not for everybody” and move on, Swifties.
One of the weird things about the Princess of Wales’s appearance at Trooping the Colour last month was the short shelf-life of the big reveal. Kate had not been seen in public for almost six full months and it was a big deal that she finally came out and showed her face at Trooping. There was a huge fuss on the day and for a few days afterwards. And then… everyone just kind of moved on. It felt like most people reacted with “oh, good, she’s well enough to be in public, let’s move on.” I wondered if the same thing would happen with her appearance at Wimbledon. It’s not like it was a state occasion, and she only had one of her kids with her, and William was in the wind – logically, that would make it less important than Trooping. But Kate’s Wimbledon outing has been much more buzzy, right? How was this a bigger story than Trooping? It’s weird. Anyway, People Magazine had an exclusive about her Wimbledon appearance too, some highlights:
Her Wimbledon appearance will sustain her: “This will have given her sustenance. She has gone through something awful and stressful, and it is crucial to have little wins to look forward to or to give you the courage and energy to go forward,” a palace insider tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s issue. “And this was it.”
The world was watching: The rare outing (announced the day before and just her second public appearance of the year) didn’t come without much thought, planning and steely preparation on the royal’s part. “It showed a lot of courage and character, as she knew that the world was watching,” says Robert Jobson, author of the new book Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen, out Aug. 6.
Photographer Karwai Tang captured her memorable entrance: “She usually comes in, walks down and into her seat,” Tang tells PEOPLE. “But she stood for a while and took it all in. For her to acknowledge it and take in the applause was special. Wimbledon had been waiting with bated breath for her to return, and she was back.”
Kate is gradually returning to her duties behind the scenes. A palace source confirms that Princess Kate has been making calls, speaking with staff and staying informed on the latest research for her royal causes while doing “a little work from home,” as Kate described on June 14. Adds a source close to the royal household: “It’s good not to feel under pressure and just take her time and have slow days if she needs to.”
A shift in priorities. “Before, she used to live her life by the calendar, and now she is living her life, and the calendar comes in after,” Jobson says. “She will be back, but when you have had an experience like this, it changes your perspective and the order of things.”
“Before, she used to live her life by the calendar” LMAO. One of the funniest parts of the 2024 Kate Missington Rebrand is that they’re trying to make it sound like she was the most perfect and most hard-working princess ever before all of this. Spoiler: she was not. And did you catch the fact that she’s being praised for “acknowledging” the applause? Please, she was feeding on it, she was reveling in being the center of attention. The sustenance line is interesting though… like, the Wimbledon outing is enough to “sustain” her during her months of summer vacation.
I can never gauge how much backstory people know when coming into these Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stories these days. This sh-t has been happening for almost eight full years. Jolie filed for divorce during the Obama administration, you know? So many years of lies, drama and shenanigans. I’d like to thank all of the old-school Jolie-fans for rallying in yesterday’s post too – the story obviously came from Pitt’s camp, as he desperately tried to spin Angelina’s perfectly appropriate legal request into yet another tantrum. As I’ve seen from comments here and on Twitter, the Pitt-defenders have been called upon to spread misinformation about how “both sides” are in the wrong, or that Angelina needs to be the one to “end” their many legal issues, or that Angelina defending herself is “bad” for the kids. Angelina filed for divorce the moment he physically attacked their children, and she’s spent years trying to disentangle herself from him legally and financially, all while he slanders her and financially abuses her. He was the one who sued her, and she only countersued because she was sick of his years of lies and bullsh-t.
In the previous story this week, we heard Brad’s side about how Angelina is asking the court to order Brad to produce his communications from 2016 and beyond, including all of his written communications with his PR team and crisis management team in the wake of the 2016 plane terror. Turnabout is fair play – Brad demanded Jolie’s staff NDAs, which she provided to the court. Now Pitt is salty that she wants all of HIS relevant records too. Now Angelina’s lawyer has spoken to People Magazine about what’s going on:
Angelina Jolie’s attorney says the actress wants ex Brad Pitt to “end the fighting” by dropping his lawsuit against her regarding their winery.
Pitt sued Jolie after she sold away her half of Château Miraval for $67 million in October 2021. He argued that the sale went against a verbal agreement they had. Jolie’s side has said she refused to let him buy her out of the business because she didn’t want to sign his NDA as part of the deal. In the latest development, Jolie formally requested that Pitt disclose third-party communications he had in the aftermath of the 2016 plane ride incident that led to their divorce. Pitt’s lawyers called her request “intrusive” and a “sensationalist fishing expedition,” asking the judge to deny it.
In a July 17 statement obtained by PEOPLE, Jolie’s lawyer Paul Murphy claims Pitt, in his past offer to buy Jolie’s stake in the winery, “tried to punish and control Angelina by demanding a newly expanded NDA to cover his personal misconduct and abuse.”
“Those actions are central to these proceedings,” added Murphy, saying, “We are not at all surprised Mr. Pitt is afraid to turn over the documents demonstrating these facts.”
“While Angelina again asks Mr. Pitt to end the fighting and finally put their family on a clear path toward healing, unless Mr. Pitt withdraws his lawsuit, Angelina has no choice but to obtain the evidence necessary to prove his allegations wrong,” Murphy says.
A rep for Pitt declined to comment. According to Pitt’s lawyers in a recent court filing, the third-party communications Jolie’s team are requesting deal with “sensitive issues” (including “therapy he voluntarily undertook after the flight incident in an effort to better himself”) and feature some of “his most trusted advisors.” They claimed Jolie “wants them anyway as part of her efforts to turn this business dispute into a re-litigation of the former couple’s divorce case.” A source close to Pitt tells PEOPLE that his recent filing speaks for itself.
“Her efforts to turn this business dispute into a re-litigation of the former couple’s divorce case.” One, the divorce case hasn’t been “litigated,” much less RElitigated. The divorce has not been finalized. One party is holding up the proceedings and it’s not Angelina. Two, Pitt was the one who tied the “business dispute” with the divorce. He was the one who tried to force Angelina’s silence on his abuse within her attempt to sell Nouvel TO him. When she walked away from any deal with an NDA, that’s when Pitt threw this tantrum and sued Angelina, claiming he was blindsided (he was not, Jolie had to go to court to clear the sale and he knew exactly what she was doing and why because she informed him in writing).
Anyway, I’ve said this before, but I like Angelina’s current legal team. They’ve been so much more proactive in pushing back on Pitt’s crap. I love that Angelina’s lawyer went to People Mag and said: look, he can end this whenever he wants. I keep hearing things about the French government and Miraval too. I’d love to know what Yuri Shefler is up to.
It’s become a regular thing these days, where GB News’ resident royalist Cameron Walker gets all kinds of suspicious exclusives from Kensington Palace. These are the kinds of exclusives which would normally go to Becky English at the Mail, or Roya Nikkhah at the Times or Camilla Tominey at the Telegraph. I just find it interesting that KP has pulled in a competing rota reporter for their exclusives. Is there drama in Kensington Palace’s comms office? There should be – the KP comms office has been an incompetent clownshow all year. Maybe with the new private secretaries come new media alliances. Speaking of new staff and stenographers, Walker’s exclusive is all about Prince William and Kate looking to make a special new hire. They want an “advisor” who can step in for them (ie, do work on their behalf) in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. There’s some interesting gossip in here about how people should not expect the Prince of Wales and Princess of Wales to explore or support Welsh culture or the Welsh language as well.
The Prince and Princess of Wales appear to be on a drive to win over further support in Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish communities by hiring a key adviser to be part of their expanding ‘on the ground’ team. Although the new hire would be responsible for Prince William and Catherine’s public engagements in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, the future King and Queen want their new Assistant Private Secretary to specifically focus on Wales and believe it is “essential” that they speak conversational Welsh.
Unlike Prince William’s father in 1969, he has no plans for an investiture ceremony as Prince of Wales, conscious of the grumbling tensions within certain local communities. The Plaid Cymru Senedd group is thought to be hostile to the future King’s ‘Prince of Wales’ title, previously declaring it has “no formal place or responsibility within Welsh life”.
However, when The King made his eldest son The Prince of Wales shortly after his accession, a royal source told GB News William had begun learning Welsh, and wanted to deepen the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time.
It is understood The Prince and Princess wanted to support Welsh language and culture in their own way, and not follow the customs set out by older generations of the Royal Family – insisting they did not wish to rush things.
Almost two years after taking on their Wales titles, and after a testing year so far with The Princess’ major abdominal surgery and cancer diagnosis, it appears Prince William and Catherine are driving forward with their plans, seeking “specific expertise on Welsh communities, affairs, government, and business”. Handled by the largest executive search firm in the United Kingdom, Odgers Berndtson has posted a job advert for an Assistant Private Secretary (“APS”), Wales & UK on behalf of Kensington Palace.
The successful candidate, according to the job description, will be required to deliver “written advice” to Prince William and Catherine, as well as carry out “ad hoc responsibilities” when the royal couple requests them. Most of The Prince and Princess’ public engagements in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will be planned and delivered by the new aide, who will also be expected to build and manage relationships with different communities across the country on behalf of William and Catherine. The APS will also be writing speeches for Their Royal Highnesses, and briefing their security team – an essential part of keeping the future King and Queen safe on public engagements.
Conscious of the intense public interest in the British Royal Family, Prince William and Catherine want their new hire to “remain discrete at all times and maintain confidentiality”.
As always, the bar is in hell for Huevo and Keen. “When The King made his eldest son The Prince of Wales shortly after his accession, a royal source told GB News William had begun learning Welsh…” William was 40 years old at the time and he only thought to begin learning Welsh when his grandmother died. In the two years since then, William and Kate still haven’t learned any Welsh or anything about Welsh customs or culture, but “it is understood The Prince and Princess wanted to support Welsh language and culture in their own way, and not follow the customs set out by older generations of the Royal Family – insisting they did not wish to rush things.” LMAO. They don’t want to RUSH things after two years of not learning jacksh-t? Please, this is all so f–king funny. William and Kate could not be any more apathetic or disrespectful towards Wales. William didn’t even bother going to the anniversary event in Cardiff last week to celebrate the Senedd. Charles went instead.
As we discussed, King Charles and Queen Camilla were the main event for the state opening of Parliament on Wednesday. While the new prime minister and the MPs were all dressed in business attire – befitting a daytime state event – Charles and Camilla were bizarrely expected to show up in all of their state regalia. Camilla wore a white gown, an ermine cape, and the Diamond Diadem. Charles wore one of his dress uniforms, then the ermine robe was added at Parliament, as was the Imperial State Crown. As such, I don’t think Charles had enough time to get comfortable in his heavy gear. When one of his page boys tried to “fix” something on the robe, Charles’s reaction was predictably ill-tempered.
Ahead of a speech in the House of Lords, a page boy tries to adjust King Charles’ robe. The King seemed to pull his hand back when the page boy tries to place the King’s robe around his throne.https://t.co/2dqSfWjmj0 pic.twitter.com/SsGdMdR8YC

Now, do I honestly think this is the worst thing in the world? No, of course not. It was just an awkward moment between an ill-tempered king and a child who should have been enjoying his summer vacation rather than fuss about with an ermine robe in the middle of g–damn July. But it’s yet another in an increasingly long list of Charles being ill-tempered and rude in public. The man couldn’t even get through his big Proclamation Ceremony (the day after his mother died) without being ill-tempered at an ink pot. Days after that, he threw a tantrum about a leaky pen. Even earlier this week, Charles apparently “snapped” at an aide over Camilla’s coat when they were in Jersey. Maybe Charles is just a rude, unpleasant man, have you ever thought about that.
Camilla should have just handed someone the umbrella & focused on her coat.
How on earth did she think she could hold on to that umbrella & put her coat on with the other?

I said this on Twitter last night and I’ll say it here… my recommendation, if you already know that you’re voting for the Biden/Harris ticket, is to just do the mute challenge on network news, cable news and online news. Over the past month, the American national media has lost their collective hive-mind and they’re actively trying to hand the election to Donald Trump. Meanwhile, too many Democrats are suddenly shoot-themselves-in-the-d–k bed-wetters who want to throw out 14 million primary votes. I’ve seen a lot in recent weeks about how the viewership of American cable and network news has cratered – good. Keep it up. Because the next four months are going to be insane.
So, buck up, buttercup, because President Joe Biden has Covid-19. Another covid wave has hit America really hard in recent months and reportedly there are two variants spreading across the country: FLiRT and LB.1. It’s connected to the heat wave – more people are inside with the AC running, in closer quarters. For President Biden, that man has been running all over the place since the sh-tty debate three weeks ago, campaigning and shaking hands and running the NATO Summit. It feels inevitable that he would get Covid. That being said, he’s vaccinated and boosted and apparently he’s barely symptomatic.
President Joe Biden tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday while he was in Las Vegas for a series of events, the White House said. In a statement, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden tested positive “following his first event in Las Vegas.”
“He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms,” Jean-Pierre said. “He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.”
Biden was already scheduled to head to Delaware after his trip to Las Vegas.
Biden was tested after he experienced upper respiratory symptoms, Biden’s doctor said in a statement released by the White House. Dr. Kevin O’Connor is the president’s physician; the White House did not attribute the statement to him by name. Biden’s symptoms included a runny nose, nonproductive cough and “general malaise,” the statement said.
His doctor said he has already taken his first dose of Paxlovid, a medication that is associated with reducing the chance of hospitalization or death. Biden does not have a fever, and his respiratory rate is normal, according to the doctor.
You mean to tell me that the White House got President Biden’s doctor to confirm the president’s condition and treatment within a couple of hours of the diagnosis, but it was days after the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally before that boozehound liar Ronny Jackson told reporters about the condition of Trump’s ear? Trump was rushed to a hospital after the shooting and we’ve yet to hear anything from the doctors who actually treated him after what was reported as an assassination attempt. Meanwhile, President Biden is doing full-disclosure on a case of Covid.
Meanwhile, the Biden team is having fun with it, and they also just released an extremely powerful new ad.

The British media is still absolutely furious about Prince Harry’s reception at the ESPYs and they’re doing everything they can to convince their domestic audience that Americans hate the Sussexes. Their latest salvo is promoting an unnamed, undocumented “survey” which apparently found that “nearly four out of 10 Americans think Prince Harry was wrong to receive the Pat Tillman Award.” Where is this survey? Where did it come from? LOL. Meanwhile, almost simultaneous with the trumpeting of this new survey, the Sussexes have been included in the Paley Center’s Honors Tribute Host Committee as the center plans to honor Tyler Perry:
The Paley Center for Media announced on Wednesday that it will honor Tyler Perry at its Paley Honors gala, taking place in Beverly Hills on Dec. 4.
The event, which will be held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, will serve as a celebration of Perry’s long and versatile career as an actor, writer, director, producer, studio owner and philanthropist. He has produced over 2,000 episodes of television and directed, written and produced 28 feature films; since 2019, Perry has also operated his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
The Paley Center has convened some of Perry’s closest friends and colleagues as part of its Paley Honors Tribute Host Committee, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle; Perry is godfather to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s daughter, Lilibet, after offering up his house to the couple following their contentious exit from the royal family.
Ariel Emanuel, Jon Feltheimer, Whoopi Goldberg, Taraji P. Henson, Matt Johnson, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Gayle King, Debra L. Lee, Mellody Hobson, George Lucas, Scott Mills, Nicole Avant, Ted Sarandos, and Kerry Washington are also part of the committee.
“Throughout my career, I have strived to bring people together and to give a voice to those often underrepresented in media,” Perry said in a statement. “Media has served as a vital platform for this mission, and I’m honored to receive this award from The Paley Center for Media, an organization that has dedicated itself to spotlighting the power and importance of media.”
The Paley Center is right to honor Tyler Perry, and I love that the Sussexes are included in the honors committee. That means they’ll most likely attend the Paley Honors gala!! Yay, another red carpet! The Sussexes will probably skip the carpet and show up inside the event. Maybe one or both of them will be on stage, talking about what Tyler did for them in their time of need. I love this! Yet another incoming tantrum from the British media too…
