While Netflix has had a lot of success on the TV side, their movie arm is only just gaining real credibility, with films like Roma, Bird Box, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. To date, Netflix movies have largely been seen as a dump site for problem children (Clove…
How big of a deal is it that Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh are cohosting the Emmys? I was pleased with the news, and I appreciate the fact that an Asian woman is going to be front and center at arguably the second biggest Hollywood awards show. But I also appreciate the fact that most people didn’t make Oh’s race an issue, or that they didn’t even see it as notable – Sandra Oh is extremely talented and funny, and no one feels like this is tokenism whatsoever. Anyway, Sandra and Andy cover the latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter, and this is just a preview for Sunday night’s activities. Yes, the Globes are happening on Sunday. WAKE UP! We’re going to have fun. You can read the THR piece here. Some highlights:
On the liquor-fueled partying at the Globes:
Oh: They’re just drinking, they’re not eating. They’re just drinking. I feel like people want to get to the party more quickly at the Globes.
Samberg: A lot of people get to the party at the Globes. Which is nice. It makes for a looser atmosphere. My hope is that you have so much goodwill that we’re just going to skate by. And I will be your lapdog.
Oh on politics & hosting: “Yeah, and the job of being a host, it’s really to be there to support all the nominees and those who take that platform to say whatever they want. I don’t really think that [getting political] is for the hosts necessarily. You make it an open and safe place for whoever wants to use that platform to speak.
On Oprah & Meryl:
Samberg: The most memorable moments from the last two years of the Globes have been the DeMille speeches, Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey.
Oh: Oh, so good. So good, so good. Those two women really understand the power of that platform and took it and opened up a lot. That’s who deserves that kind of award, not only for the work that they’ve done but how they display themselves and their character.
Oh doesn’t want to get into detailed political comedy: “No, I don’t think I could do that. I don’t think it’s shallow?to 1) have fun and 2) be honestly celebratory. Just the fact that I’m f–king up there is crazy-pants in a great way. And I’m not interested in [talking about Trump] at all. What I’m interested in is pointing to actual real change. I want to?focus on that ’cause people can pooh-pooh Hollywood all they want — and there is a lot to pooh-pooh, sure — but we also make culture. How many gazillions of people have seen Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians? That changes things. Just speaking for my own community, people cried a lot in?[Crazy Rich Asians], and it’s not only because it’s a great story and a classic romantic comedy — it is?because seeing yourself reflected onscreen?is really emotional when you don’t even know that you’re carrying so much grief of never?being seen.

I forgot that the best parts of the past two Globes ceremonies were Meryl and Oprah. Remember Meryl’s speech? It was so good that Trump had a meltdown on Twitter about it the next morning. And Oprah’s speech last year was incredible. As for Sandra and Andy… I hope they’re cute together. This joint interview was cute, but we’ll see.
.@IamSandraOh won’t talk Trump at the #GoldenGlobes: “What I’m interested in is pointing to actual real change. Of 2019, I mean. Tonight Bradley Cooper will receive the director of the year award to kick off the Palm Springs International Film Festival. It’s a big event on the award season calendar because there are a lot of Academy voters who live in Palm Springs (a lot of fusty ones) and show up at the Palm…
Last month, we discussed Netflix paying $100M to keep the sitcom Friends streaming for another year. At the time the deal was announced, I assumed the cast themselves would not see any of that money, but it turns out, they will. And a decent amount, too. It was recently published that each cast member makes 2% of the syndication income, which means each one is making about $20M a year.
Fourteen years after the beloved sitcom went off the air, the show’s main six cast members, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry, continue to bring in a very hefty income each year, according to USA Today.
The stars all receive 2 percent of the syndication income, the outlet reported.
Because the Warner Bros. show brings in a total of $1 billion annually for the network, that means each cast member rakes in $20 million every year.

Forgive my language but good googley-mogley, that’s some serious cash for work completed 14 years ago! I remember when the cast all banded together and negotiated their $1M per episode salaries and they were praised for their business acumen. I had no idea how good their deal was. And good for them – someone’s making a ton of money, why not a cut for the actors responsible? This also explains why there isn’t a real likelihood of a reunion. It won’t do any good to throw money at them because the money is already coming in. It also explains how the cast is able to either take breaks for personal reasons, which is great, or experiment with less mainstream roles – they simply have the luxury of doing so. Must be nice.
Speaking of the Friends’ careers, I checked IMDb to see what the gang was up to. Jennifer Aniston’s next big thing is her show with Reese Witherspoon. Courteney Cox is dabbling, including guest spots on shows like Shameless. Plus, if you haven’t seen her on Drunk History, you really need to. Lisa Kudrow’s had a great post-Friends career. Her next movie is an Olivia Wilde-directed film called Booksmart but I didn’t realize she’d had a reoccurring role on Grace and Frankie. Matt LeBlanc is headlining his fourth TV series, Man with a Plan, that begins its’ third season in February. I haven’t seen that one, but I was hooked on Episodes. Matthew Perry is looking after his health, as he should, and David Schwimmer is slowly doing more and more TV, currently with his arc on Will and Grace. I’m not loving the reboot of the show itself, but I do like his character.

Normally, I wouldn’t care about a Bravo reality star, but I thought this was sort of an interesting story. Brittany Cartwright is perhaps known to some of you because she’s in Vanderpump Rules. She also recently got engaged to Jax Taylor, another “star” of Vanderpump Rules. She’s been getting more attention over the past year or so, and up until now, I thought she was a country singer or a Bachelorette, but no – she’s a Bravo reality star on the hustle. Anyway, Brittany flies Delta. She flew Delta Atlanta to Miami over the holidays, and it seems that – according to her – another passenger assaulted her and put gum in her hair?
It’s been a banner 2018 for Brittany Cartwright, including her 25-lb. weight loss and engagement to Vanderpump Rules costar Jax Taylor. But one day before the year came to a close, the Kentucky native hit a speed bump when an airline passenger allegedly assaulted her — pushing her and putting gum in her hair. Cartwright opened up about the alleged incident on Twitter in a post on Sunday.
She claimed in her tweet that while flying from Atlanta to Miami on a Delta flight, she was using the first class airplane bathroom when a female passenger “started shaking my door a good 3 to 4 times [even though] I had already told her someone was in there.” After Cartwright stepped out, she allegedly showed the passenger “where it said occupied and vacant.” The passenger then used the restroom, but mocked the reality star when she returned to her seat.
From there, things allegedly got worse. When Cartwright was exiting the jet bridge, the female passenger pushed and pulled her hair, Cartwright claimed. The woman also allegedly put gum in Cartwright’s hair — a photo of which the reality star posted.
“Jax saw it all happen so of course we walk after her and say how dare you touch me, I did nothing but show you a sign,” Cartwright wrote. “This kind of behavior is not acceptable and I will be pressing charges. This incident was a complete assault. I had to cut gum out of my hair. I did absolutely nothing to deserve this and I feel like a mean girl like this needs to be put in [her] place before she acts like this to someone else.”
Cartwright then when on to question Delta, claiming that the airline’s staff and flight attendants did nothing to help. The company’s official Twitter account did respond to Cartwright to say they would look into the incident, and a Delta rep told PEOPLE on Tuesday, “The airline has reached out to learn more.”
“I hope Delta does the right thing,” Cartwright added, in her original tweet. “I have her flight information, seat number, everything. I would NEVER ever disrespect someone this way, no matter how mad they made me so I can’t believe this behavior exists. It makes me sad and I can’t get over it. I will make sure this lady knows she can’t treat people this way. If this is what she will do at an AIRPORT (and get away with it), imagine what she is doing elsewhere?”
[From People]
I get that pushing someone constitutes assault, but the gum-in-the-hair thing? I don’t know. I don’t know about Delta’s liability here too. The assailant sounds like a total douchebag, for sure, but if it happened on the bridge, is Delta liable? And if someone put gum in my hair, that would make me so much angrier than being pushed. But it definitely feels like something is being left out of this story, right? Also: as someone with long hair and someone who likes to chew gum, that photo upsets me.
I’m so disgusted by what happened to me today while flying from Atlanta to Miami. @Delta I hope you see this and take the necessary measures, defending what is right, as I know I will. pic.twitter.com/R2X7LAHIJN

Just after Christmas, Forest Whitaker filed for divorce from his wife of 22 YEARS. This was not some flashy Hollywood marriage, and I never heard any gossip about Forest or his wife Keisha Nash Whitaker. After 22 years, their kids are grown (Sonnet Noel is 22 and True is 20) and out of the house. Maybe once they were empty-nesters, they were like “wow, I cannot stand you.” I honestly don’t know what happened, and no one else seems to know either. But does this sound like a shady update?
Forest Whitaker’s wife just filed her response to his divorce petition and although it seems on the surface there may be issues between the two, our sources say the divorce is super amicable.
Keisha Nash, through her lawyer disso queen Laura Wasser, is asking for spousal support once their 22 year marriage is dissolved. In Forest’s legal docs he asked the judge to deny Keisha spousal support.
The spousal support thing seems like it could blow up, but our sources say not the case. We’re told both sides want to work out a formal property settlement agreement that will satisfy them. There’s a lot to divide … he’s an incredibly successful actor and we’ve learned they did not have a prenup.
There are no minor children so child support is a non issue.
[From TMZ]
The prenup conversation is stupid because even if they had a prenup, after 22 years it wouldn’t matter in the state of California, a community property state in which prenups are generally thrown out the window if a couple has been married longer than a decade. I find it very shady that Keisha asked for spousal support and Forest asked that support be denied AND that “sources” are trying to play that like “oh they’re just working on a settlement.” If they were working on a settlement and on the same page, Keisha wouldn’t have had to ask for support and Forest wouldn’t have asked the court to deny it. And after 22 years, she better get spousal support. It’s one of those situations where the number of years should just mean a total 50-50 split in assets.

On December 28th, Netflix released Bandersnatch, a new episode of Black Mirror. The episode is about 19-year old Stefan who is working on a video game called Bandersnatch. The game is a choose your own adventure, where choices that the player makes affect outcomes in the game. Wha…
Diddy and Cassie announced their breakup in October. I’ll admit that I never paid much attention to them as a couple, and to me, it seemed like they were always in a cycle of breaking up and making up. That cycle went on for 11 damn years. At least this time – the October breakup – it seems to be for real. They haven’t gotten back together. And perhaps that’s because Cassie is dating someone else: her new boyfriend is Cassie’s former trainer. As in, Diddy now believes that Cassie was banging this guy while Diddy was paying him for training sessions. LOL.
Diddy ?might want to ask for a refund from his former trainer … because sources claim the guy he hired to keep Cassie in shape was banging her on his dime … but she says his timeline is wrong. Here’s what we’re told. Diddy’s trainer, Jamal Liggin, got so busy he hired several trainers as backup, including Alex Fine. Diddy tagged Alex to train Cassie over the last year.
As we reported, Diddy and Cassie broke up several months ago after a decade-long relationship, but our sources claim Cassie and Alex hooked up before the split. We’re told what especially galls Diddy … he paid Alex to train his then-girlfriend and feels betrayed.
Cassie sure seems smitten with Alex. She has not ever publicly talked about a timeline, but we’re told Diddy is convinced there’s an overlap. Sources connected to Cassie insist she did NOT start dating Alex until after she broke up with Diddy. We reached out to Alex … so far, no word back.
Diddy has bigger issues to deal with, like raising his 3 children after the death of Kim Porter in November. Diddy was destroyed when Kim died, saying they were more than soulmates.
[From TMZ]
I mean… I bet this happens a lot. Rich man with a busy life. Rich man is used to hiring tons of people to work on all sorts of things. Rich man pays for his girlfriend’s private training sessions. Girlfriend bangs private trainer. The only thing is that if Cassie and Diddy split because she’s fallen for Alex, then lord, she’s dumb. You don’t break up with your rich man to get with the trainer.
Apparently, Alex is the guy Cassie is kissing in her IG, below:
