I keep forgetting that Mitt Romney is now a senator. Is it just me or did that deserve to be a bigger headline in 2018? Mitt Romney, 71, was elected as a first-time senator in Utah, after serving as governor of Massachusetts and running for president in 2012. Well, Mittens Is Coming To Washington and he has some thoughts! Mittens wrote an op-ed in today’s Washington Post called “Mitt Romney: The president shapes the public character of the nation. Trump’s character falls short.” Strong words from a Republican who will vote with Trump 99.9% of the time, eh? Here’s part of the op-ed:
It is well known that Donald Trump was not my choice for the Republican presidential nomination. After he became the nominee, I hoped his campaign would refrain from resentment and name-calling. It did not. When he won the election, I hoped he would rise to the occasion. His early appointments of Rex Tillerson, Jeff Sessions, Nikki Haley, Gary Cohn, H.R. McMaster, Kelly and Mattis were encouraging. But, on balance, his conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions last month, is evidence that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office.
It is not that all of the president’s policies have been misguided. He was right to align U.S. corporate taxes with those of global competitors, to strip out excessive regulations, to crack down on China’s unfair trade practices, to reform criminal justice and to appoint conservative judges. These are policies mainstream Republicans have promoted for years. But policies and appointments are only a part of a presidency.
To a great degree, a presidency shapes the public character of the nation. A president should unite us and inspire us to follow “our better angels.” A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect. As a nation, we have been blessed with presidents who have called on the greatness of the American spirit. With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable. And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring.

If we still have books in the future Trumplandia Dystopia, many will be written about what happened within the Republican Party to get Trump elected, and what was done (or not done) within the GOP once Trump was in office. I feel like Romney will get a chapter – here’s an intelligent man, a man who could wipe the floor with Trump in business and finance, a man who looks like the poster child for Republican Hair. Romney comes into Washington owing no one, especially not Trump. And this is all we get? Some weaksauce “Trump is no moral leader” sad-sack routine? Trump is unpresidential because HE IS INSANE. He’s a despot, he’s a fascist, he radicalized homegrown terrorists and he’s a giant embarrassment at home and abroad. Now is not the time to tut-tut about how Trump has only recently made some bad decisions.

Mitt Romney still believes in tax cuts for the rich, overturning Roe v. Wade and putting corporations before people, but at least he’s real nice about it.

Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx spent the weekend together in Miami on a luxury yacht. They were seen riding around on jet skis, partying with friends, and kissing and hugging in the cabin. Beyonce and Jay-Z had a good 2018. It was good for many reasons – their tour was super-successful, there was no elevator drama, nor was there another big marriage drama. They have three healthy children. Beyonce killed at Coachella. They both still make so much money. So, yeah, everything seems fine with them. I was surprised by how many people predicted trouble for Bey-Z in 2019 though – it made me wonder if 2018 was just the calm before another storm. So is it suspicious that People Magazine ran a “nothing to see here, folks, they’re totally fine!” story?
Beyoncé and JAY-Z are ending 2018 on a good note. Following her lavish trip to India to perform at a concert during the wedding festivities for Isha Ambani, the daughter of India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, Beyoncé and her family spent Christmas on the east coast, a source tells PEOPLE. To bring in the new year, the Carters have traveled to Los Angeles.
“It was a very special year for the whole family,” the source shares. “Beyoncé and JAY loved touring and connecting with their fans.” On Oct. 4, the pair concluded their On the Run II Tour in Seattle after traveling around the world with their three children: 6-year-old daughter Blue Ivy and 18-month-old twins Rumi and Sir.
“They enjoyed bringing their whole family on tour. It was like a big adventure for everyone. They loved showing Blue around Europe, enjoyed solo date nights and family fun,” the source says. “Beyoncé and JAY seem closer than ever. They are very grateful for another wonderful year together. They are definitely looking back at this year with huge smiles.”
OTR II brought in over $250 million and was attended by many A-list friends, including the Kardashians and Michelle Obama.

As I said, I thought they had a good year too, and Jay and Beyonce genuinely seemed to have weathered their marriage crisis several years ago, and now they’re stronger than ever. It’s one thing for me to just assume that they’re fine – it’s quite another for sources to talk about how THEY ARE TOTALLY FINE to People Magazine. It just feels like advance work on a story which will break in 2019. Maybe I’m just being too suspicious though. Hm.

As we discussed last week, Vincent Cassel (52) is expecting a child with his 21-year-old wife Tina Kunakey. Vincent was married to Monica Bellucci for years, but they fell apart back in 2013. Vincent apparently started dating Tina a few years ago, when she was probably 19 or 20. They got married in August 2018, and I’m starting to think that she got pregnant on their honeymoon, or perhaps she was knocked up on their wedding day.
Anyway, Vincent and Tina confirmed their pregnancy news on social media for New Year’s. Vincent posted the above video where IT SHOULD BE AGAINST THE LAW that she looks that good in a bikini WHILE PREGNANT. Honestly, Vincent and Tina both seem so happy and smiley in this video, it’s going to be hard for me to hate on their age difference. Apparently, they’re on vacation – or perhaps babymooning? – in Bahia, Brazil.
Some of you tweeted at me, wondering what Monica Bellucci thinks of all of this. I wasn’t aware of any drama, but apparently Monica has made some vague snipes in the European press about the age difference between Vincent and Tina. That being said, Monica has a much younger boyfriend now too, so maybe there is a little bit of tit-for-tat between them. But in a recent interview, Vincent did talk about how he still cares very deeply for Monica, and he would still do anything for her. So maybe everything is fine.
