I tend to believe that Aquaman will be a a gigantic mess. But will it be a financial success? I don’t know. My prediction is that it will make its money back, but it won’t be a huge hit in the vein of Wonder Woman. Still, I’m looking forward to the promotional tour, because I’m always looking for more Jason Momoa content. Momoa covers the December issue of Men’s Journal, and the editorial is very “He-Man/playful.” He apparently insisted that they photograph him at the LA home he shares with Lisa Bonet, and there’s a rock-climbing wall and lots of toys. You can see the full editorial here. Some highlights from the interview:
He’s always had an athletic/hippie/outdoorsy vibe: “Always. I’ve been climbing since I was 14. Skateboarding since I was 8. I love the outdoors, camping, I mean—obviously you saw the Airstreams. I used to live out of that one…. This is my love. It’s always kept me humble, grounded, outdoors, and pushing myself, scaring myself,. On the wall, it’s a flow— you’re problem-solving, creating something. It’s the perfect real-world mental and physical test.” He’s determined to teach that ethos to his kids—daughter Lola, age 11, and son Nakoa-Wolf, “Wolfie,” who’s 10. “That’s the coolest thing, when your kids love what you do. They do hula and African dance with my wife, and they climb, skate, and surf with me. And they dig music.”
He’s building a Momoa Army: “If I see something I love, I want to learn everything about it. There are just so many things I want to do in this life, from writing to music to designing to activism. I actually need more people to help me. I’m slowly building a little army.”
Guinness & Lisa Bonet: “You know, I met my wife over a pint of Guinness. I knew it was love when she ordered it first.”
His marriage is normal: “I get in trouble just like any other dumb f–king male. We love each other, have an amazing family together, but a relationship is work.” He… reflects on how much a person can change over 12 years. “That poor woman met me when I was 26. I was a maniac. I wanted to do all of these things, but I didn’t have an outlet, so I would just destroy. She’s stuck with me through too many me’s.”
He’s like Aquaman, an outsider: “It’s probably the character I’ve played that’s most like me. Like him, I grew up a huge outsider. I was just with my mother, he was just with his father, and I know what that’s like, not having a parent around.”
He gets work for all of his friends: “If I fall in love with you, I put you in my pocket, and I take you everywhere.”
Momoa threatens to “go Brando” on Bonet: Bonet looks in closely at one shot, an image of Momoa hunched over a clump of carrots, a slight pudge sticking out at his waist. She laughs and clucks, “Uh-oh—look at that gut.” Momoa bellows back, “Baby, do not shame my stomach!” and slaps her backside. “I told you I’m gonna go Brando on your ass.”
[From Men’s Journal]
I do wonder about his marriage to Lisa Bonet, even though I think he flat-out adores her and worships her. But I also think they’re probably hippies and rather “open” and that it’s all sort of loosey-goosey when it comes to fidelity. Just my take, maybe I’m totally wrong. But I like that he’s not trying to sell his marriage as the most devoted and perfect thing, he’s being pretty honest about how much he’s changed and how much he’s put Lisa through. I love this: “If I fall in love with you, I put you in my pocket, and I take you everywhere.” He wasn’t talking about Bonet there, he was talking about his dude friends, and I love that he thinks that way – he “falls in love” with his bros and gets them jobs and looks out for them. It’s sweet.

The New Yorker has an incredible interview with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. I love Julia, but I didn’t know that much about her. This interview filled in so many blanks, and it made me like her even more. It starts a few weeks before she received the Mark Twain Award for Comedy and finishes a few weeks after. She talks about her childhood, her career, why she was miserable at SNL, and her marriage to Brad Hall. But the whole interview is framed around her cancer battle and chemotherapy treatments which were far worse than Julia ever let on. She described how brutal they got, the toll it took on her physically and how she is just now regaining her strength. But even so, she was determined to control the narrative in the press. When the paparazzi wanted to get a photo of her looking frail, she outsmarted them by posting her own images and taking that power away from them.
Louis-Dreyfus is active on social media, posting her (liberal-Hollywood) support for candidates and causes: Sally Yates, Stacey Abrams, her fellow Holton-Arms alumna Christine Blasey Ford. She also used it to keep her fans up to date on her cancer treatments. “There were people with long lenses trying to get pictures of me looking ill, and I think I kind of burst the bubble on a lot of it because of my social-media presence,” Louis-Dreyfus said, with satisfaction.
I asked if she had ever succumbed to fear or self-pity during her illness. She thought for a minute and then replied, “ ‘Am I gonna be dead tomorrow’ kind of thing? I didn’t let myself go there.” She paused. “Don’t misunderstand: I was to-my-bones terrified. But I didn’t let myself—except for a couple of moments—go to a really dark place. I didn’t allow it.”
(VEEP showrunner, David) Mandel, who has known Louis-Dreyfus for some thirty years, described his own reaction when he heard that she had cancer: “I had the sense of the walls closing in on me, and I was racked with guilt and other weird Jewishness, and I was a goddam wreck. She seemed great. Then we watched her go through the chemo and you could see its effects on her. She got thinner and thinner. We couldn’t hug her, because we were afraid to get her sick. It was the first time that—all of a sudden—she looked her age and seemed human and vulnerable.”
[From The New Yorker]
Julia said she would have a big group of friends/co-stars come to her to her chemo appointments and they would all make each other laugh, reinforcing the old cliché that laughter is the best medicine. It was so important to have those people there for her, that Julia began crying in the interview when she spoke about it. She comes across as such a genuine person. I am so happy she’s getting healthier every day and that she is willing to share her experience, even as harrowing as it was.
Julia mentioned that her sister Emma died at the age of 44 this last August. So in the last two years she lost her father, was treated for breast cancer and lost her sister to a fatal seizure. Apparently, because cocaine and alcohol were found in Emma’s system, the press tried to sensationalize her death. And, because Julia chose to grieve the matter privately, the press ran stories about the two being estranged. This poor woman. I’m so glad she has such a good support network with her family and co-workers. Of course, she has that network because she is such a good friend and partner.

A baby stroller is one of the most basic things you need to get if you’re a first time mom. Strollers are important if you want to be able to move around with your baby without getting tired easily. Imagine not having to carry your baby around all the time you’re out, that’s incredibly relieving!
Choosing a stroller may seem like an easy task, after all you just want something that could hold your baby while you push it. But well, if it’s your first time going baby shopping, you’d be surprised to know that a lot of things go into getting even the most basic baby stuff.
If you’re looking for ideas on what kind of stroller to get for your precious first born, you’ve come to the right place. LittleBabyGear.com is a good reference for all things baby related. Furthermore, this article will show you 5 of the most popular types of strollers for new moms.
Standard strollers
Standards strollers are those that fulfill its most basic purpose, that is to you carry your child around while you push it. They typically come in various designs and styles and it’s up to you to choose the type that fits your taste.
A lot of these strollers come with comfortable padded seats that can also recline to a certain angle. If you plan to take your child outside a lot, get one that has a sunshade to protect your child. And if you’re wary about storage, you can opt for products that have storage areas underneath the seat. There are so many other features to look for but if you want a good buy just stick to a high-quality basic stroller.
Car-seat strollers
If you intend to bring your child along with you while your drive, it’s important to have a car seat for your baby. Depending on his age and size, regular seatbelts sometimes won’t cut it. So for your child’s safety, you must acquire a baby car seat. Luckily, some car-seats can also serve as a stroller so you get a 2-in-1 product.
With this type of product, you just remove the car seat from its base, and snap it onto the lightweight stroller frame, and you’re good to go! And being that they’re designed both for the car and outdoor use, the frames are durable and collapses seamlessly for easy storage.
Lightweight strollers
This is what you need if you want something incredibly compact and weighs only 12 lbs or less. To compensate for their weight they don’t usually sport a lot of features but this no-frills stroller does its purpose well. It doesn’t have much padding and may not be that adjustable, but it’s one of the most affordable ones you can get. It’s advisable for toddlers and older babies and are useful as backups and are also great for travelling.
Travel systems
Travel systems are similar to car-seat strollers, and their purpose is to aid you and your baby in travelling. As such, these kinds of strollers are usually larger and heavier, and obviously pricier than your usual stroller frame. Travel systems are made to be very durable and functional, making it one of the most elegant strollers out there.
Twin strollers
If you’re expecting twins, you might want to consider getting twin strollers instead! This lets you, as a parent, push your two children at once. There are many available configurations for this type of stroller. Some tandem strollers have seats arranged one behind the other, which is cute if you have a baby and an older sibling. Some twin strollers on the other hand have side-by-side configuration. They have equally comfortable seats for both passengers but could be hard to wheel across the street or into a doorway because of its width.

The British Fashion Awards were underway Monday evening at Royal Albert Hall. But the big news was an unannounced appearance from the Duchess of Sussex (Meghan Markle). Clare Waight Keller, 48, won the prestigious award for Womenswear Designer of the year. Waight Keller designed Meghan Markle’s wedding dress for her special day and thanked the Duchess in her acceptance speech for the opportunity.
Meghan showed up for the ceremony to give her designer friend her award. The Duchess started off by saying to the audience, “It is such an honor to be here celebrating British fashion and British fashion designers in my new home of the U.K.”

Waight Keller thanked the Duchess in her speech saying, “This woman is so amazing. I got to know Meghan on such a personal level. To have someone like that trust you on such a personal moment in their life… I can’t thank you enough because it was the most beautiful moment.”
The Duchess was glowing during the evening cradling her baby bump. The black one-shoulder dress was believed to be Givenchy. Meghan wore her hair tied back in a simple bun and kept her makeup minimally. She completed the look by wearing a gold “Karat” heel by Tamara Mellon and a gold cuff bracelet by Pippa Small.
Meghan also had her nails painted dark for the event, going against traditional protocol that frowns upon any Royal members wearing anything but nude shades.
Waight Keller was the mastermind behind Meghan’s iconic wedding dress she wore when she married Prince Harry on May 19th when they exchanged vows at St. George’s Chapel.
The designer was the first female to take over the French fashion house. Waight Keller was asked by the palace to design the bride’s dress. The Duchess wished for a dress that was, ‘elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanor.’

There were some significant snubs today when the SAG nominations were announced. We’ll discuss them here and there in other posts later and what that means for Oscar. It’s a competitive year.
