Monday night, David Beckham came out to the British Fashion Awards with his wife Victoria Beckham. Victoria was being honored, even though her fashion line is struggling, and David tends to support her when she’s doing something related to her business. He possibly supports her because he’s financially invested in her business. I think that’s the only time he shows up for Victoria: when it’s business. As we’ve been covering all year, it really seems like the Beckhams’ marriage is on its last leg. Victoria seems happy enough to weather the storm, but David has built a new life for himself in Miami, and he’s barely ever in London anymore. According to Page Six, David only arrived in London after a week of partying in Miami:
David Beckham turned up on the red carpet with designer wife Victoria Bekcham in London on Monday, when she was honored at the British Fashion Awards at Royal Albert Hall. The event — where they were joined by son Brooklyn — came after a long week of solo partying for soccer stud David all over Miami during Art Basel.
“He was out till 5?a.m. every night,” a nightlife source tells Page Six. Beckham — who launched a Major League Soccer squad in Miami — was spotted living it up during the starry art weekend at Soho Beach House, at Los Fuegos at Faena, at a private party at Wayne Boich’s mansion, and at Bob Zangrillo’s $20 million home.

It amazes me that David’s Miami activities are so undercover – I guess with his money, connections and general discretion, he can do whatever he wants with whoever he wants. I do feel sorry for Victoria though – she wants this marriage to work. She wants to be with David forever. And he has checked out. Incidentally, there were stories about the Beckhams barely even speaking to each other inside the British Fashion Awards:
David and Victoria put on a show of unity as they were papped leaving The British Fashion Awards, but sources claim that inside it was a very different story. The couple, who have been married 19 years, were spotted with their backs turned against each other – despite being sat at the same table – as they opted to chat to other guests instead. An insider at the glamorous bash at London’s Royal Albert Hall, claimed that Victoria looked ‘furious’ as attentions turned to David – despite her being the one nominated for a design award.
Host Jack Whitehall praised the former footballer in his opening speech saying he had stolen the show at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May. As the couple’s reaction flashed up on screen Victoria was said to be ‘scowling’.
The source alleged to The Sun: “They sat together for the ceremony but moved apart at the after party. they were seen briefly speaking to each other once in about 25 minutes. You’d expect Brand Beckham to do their schmoozing together, but David had only [friend David Gardner] by his side as he made his big entrance.”
The insider also claimed that David appeared ‘charmed’ by Rita Ora as they chatted together inside the venue.
[From The Daily Mirror]
LOL, was the insider Rita Ora?? Some days, I’m just so disappointed in David. I would have hoped that he would be “present” and fighting for his marriage. But nowadays, a split seems inevitable. I just think Posh and Becks will drag out the “separate lives” thing for a while longer.

Gisele Bundchen appeared on The Ellen Show this week to talk about her many projects and books and whatever. She ended up talking mostly about Tom Brady and their life together, and I ended up feeling sort of sad. Like, am I almost sympathetic towards Gisele? I think her marriage is generally fine, but as the years go on and Tom Brady’s contract with the Patriots continues, you can tell that Gisele isn’t happy about it. She flat-out wants him to retire. But she doesn’t want to be (or to be seen) as That Wife Who Demands That Her Husband Quit His Job. Some quotes:
Rumors that Gisele will retire: “I’ve never worked so hard in my life, actually. I think I’ll retire only the day I die, because I love working. I love creating. I think that’s why we’re here: to keep creating, expanding and learning.”
Ellen, a Saints fan, asking if Tom is close to retiring: “I think you should talk with him about that,” Bündchen said. “I haven’t been successful.” Asked whether she wants him to retire, Bündchen gave a diplomatic answer. “I want him to do whatever makes him happy. Maybe if you have a conversation with him, you know?”
How physically taxing Tom’s job is: “I definitely wouldn’t want to have his job, that’s for sure. I’ll stay happy with mine. I think it’s definitely something you get concerned with, but he loves it so much. You gotta let him do what he loves.”
Whether Tom is bad at anything: “He’s terrible at…He’s not a multi-tasker. He can just do one thing at a time.”
Tom’s secret talent: “He’s an amazing waffle maker…He actually makes the batter and jokes with me, ‘I can’t give you the secret, otherwise you won’t need me anymore.’ He has some secret recipe; I’m sure there’s some packaged thing involved. But I have never seen him making it because he literally won’t let me see it. He says, ‘Then you won’t need me.’ I say, ‘OK! That’s fine.’ It tastes delicious. I can’t stop eating them.”
[From E! News]
I can’t believe Tom AND Gisele eat waffles. I thought that wasn’t allowed in their crazy 90% raw diet? I find this Classic Judgmental Gisele though: “He has some secret recipe; I’m sure there’s some packaged thing involved.” I’m sure there is too – his secret is likely something from Aunt Jemima. And I think it’s a gender thing – most women are good multitaskers and most men are not.
As for all of the retirement talk… Gisele has wanted Tom to retire for years now. She even accidentally revealed that he’s had multiple concussions, and I’m sure she’s thinking long-term, about what her marriage is going to look like if and when Tom is diagnosed with CTE.

Raise your hand if you knew Idris Elba as DCI Luther before you knew him as Stringer Bell. I can’t be the only one. Elba was Stringer Bell first, but Luther was his breakout role, the thing that made him everyone’s favorite leading man and the once and future Bond. On January 1 he’s back with a fift…
The SAG nominations snuck up on me this week, I forgot that we would be getting them so early. The SAG Awards don’t air until January 27th, at 8 pm on TNT. I really love the SAGs – they seem like the nicest awards show. Anyway, I felt like the Golden Globes nominations messed up some of the categories, and let’s see if the SAGs made it right. I’m just doing the film categories and the ensemble TV categories – you can see the full SAG nominations here.

I recently saw BlacKkKlansman and can I just say? I was blown away by Adam Driver’s performance. He was SO good. John David Washington deserves recognition because he was killing it too, but Adam Driver stole every scene he was in. A Star Is Born is still “the favorite” and the established front-runner this Oscar season. I also think The Favourite is going to get Oscar nominations for all three women, just like at the Globes and now the SAGs. We can also see that the Best Actress race is all over the place – still no Viola Davis for Widows (booo) but Glenn Close and Melissa McCarthy are surging. What else? Vice seems to be doing well across the board, and it feels inevitable now that Black Panther will be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. As it should be.
Also: it’s really cracking me up that Julia Roberts’ big Oscar-bait film Ben Is Back keeps getting snubbed.

Mary Poppins Returns opens next week and I can’t wait. Not only am I excited for the movie, but I am ready for Emily Blunt to stop promoting while I still like her. She hasn’t done anything wrong, but since this is a children’s movie, it seems she is only asked about motherhood and mothering. It’s a lot. In her interview with Luxury London, Emily said that being a mother changed her for the better and helped her find strength she’d never known she’d had.
As befits the couple’s current status as cinema’s best-loved husband and wife, the consistently affable Krasinski is evidently just as endearing off-screen. It’s just as well, as both are reaching the twin peaks of their professional powers – with Blunt’s Poppins providing a slightly more family-friendly counterweight to Krasinski’s current run as Jack Ryan in the Amazon Prime thriller of the same name – at the same time as raising daughters Hazel, four, and Violet, two.
“He’s a very good father and that’s been a great source of comfort to me because it’s not always that easy to pursue a Hollywood career when you’re raising young children and have to be working on movie sets for months at a time,” says Blunt. “He’s great at making sure there are always fresh bottles of milk and fresh food in the house; just those little things make such a big difference.” As for Blunt herself, the arrival of Hazel and Violet “changed her world completely”.
“You become a different person [when you have children] because you look at your choices from a very different perspective. Whenever I’m considering a project I always think of how it’s going to affect the lives of my daughters. I only choose films now that I definitely want to do and even then I have to really love the story and my character, because when your children are so young you have such a strong desire to be with them as much as you possibly can.
“That’s why I nearly passed on Sicario because I was still feeling very vulnerable and so close to my daughter Hazel after her birth that I didn’t want to play in a very violent film about Mexican drug cartels. But once I did, I realised that becoming a mother gives you so much more strength than you thought you had. You learn that you’re actually more capable than ever.”
[From Luxury London]
This is what I mean about hoping the promotion ends soon. When I first read this, I got defensive on behalf of the non-mothers and how they are also strong. Upon rereading, I think I understand what Emily’s saying here. If you read her comment about being, “actually more capable than ever,” with the context that she still felt vulnerable after Hazel’s birth, it doesn’t sound so preachy. I think she means that she didn’t think she could go back because of self-doubt, hormones and maybe mom-guilt. The “strength” she found was that she could do both. In those early days after my first, I legitimately thought my previous life was lost, that I wouldn’t be able to things the same – it was suffocating. So, in that sense, I could see Emily having an epiphany during Sicario.
As much as I also want her to lay off talking about John and how good they have it, I do appreciate what she said about him picking up the slack around the house. I have a real control problem and learning to let The Mister participate in the day-to-day aspects of running the household has benefitted both of us. But, even though I know this isn’t Emily’s doing, when I read sentences like, “as befits the couple’s current status as cinema’s best-loved husband and wife,” I can’t help but think it’s just an invitation for people to find flaws in their marriage, which I don’t want to do.

As we discussed this week, Nicki Minaj has a new boyfriend and she really wants us to know about him. His name is Kenneth Petty, and he’s a convicted rapist (and registered sex offender) and a murderer. Considering Minaj’s history of supporting problematic men and assaulting boyfriends, this whole thing seems like a giant mess from start to finish. I don’t have sympathy for either Minaj or Petty – she knows exactly what she’s doing, and so does he. But what is the goal here? Considering the “rollout” to TMZ, I think Minaj is just thirsty for attention. She hasn’t had the best year, so maybe this is Minaj trying to change the subject. In any case, Nicki wants us to know that she’s thinking of marrying this dude.
Nicki Minaj’s relationship with her new boyfriend is way more serious than we thought — ’cause we now know she’s considering the married and mom life with him. Sources close to the “Queen” MC tell us Nicki and Kenneth Petty have already had the marriage and baby talk — this after only a few months of dating. We’re told Nicki is serious about the prospect of marrying Kenneth and having his kids … because she believes he’s that good a man.
As for that whole convicted sex offender thing — among other crimes — we’re told Nicki couldn’t care less. She certainly isn’t shy about showing off her new boo either — Nicki posted a video of them working out together in the gym. As we reported … Nicki feels Kenneth has changed for the better since he was young — when he was convicted of first-degree attempted rape as a 16-year-old. He’s an old flame from back then, and we’re told she’s as happy as ever now that they’ve reconnected all these years later.
[From TMZ]
Interestingly enough – I guess? – it seems like Kenneth Petty was actually LIVING with a girlfriend when Nicki “stole” him. His live-in girlfriend is out here posting on social media, claiming that Nicki stole her man. I honestly can’t believe two women are fighting over this guy. Is this really the modern dating scene, you guys??

Sandra Bullock has been doing the press circuit for her upcoming Netflix film, Bird Box, where she plays a mother during a post apocalyptic time when people’s sense of sight can become deadly. She was asked what kind of parent she is and if that informed her role. You can see the video below and here’s what she said.
I now realize what it feels like to be afraid every single day because I love my kids to the point where I’m a little neurotic. What’s happening out in the world. Am I a good mother? When you leave my house, they go to school. I check my phone constantly, did the school call? Are you going to get hurt? They’re leaving with somebody else. I panic. I have to learn how to relax within a world that spins that kind of worry and remind myself and my children that it is also a hopeful place.
After that Sandra pointed to her costar, Trevante Rhodes who was sitting beside her, and said that he has a fearlessness that her partner/boyfriend “has as well.” She said she doesn’t have it and “I’m afraid. I want to make sure that I do everything in my power to protect these beautiful children that I’ve been blessed to raise.” Later on, in the studio, interviewer Sam Rubin said that it’s probably the first time Sandra has referred to Bryan Randall as her boyfriend. They’ve been together since 2015 and I can’t confirm that she’s never called him her boyfriend in an interview before.
As for Sandra being afraid, people forget that a stalker broke into her home in 2014, when her son, Louis, then five, was there. (It was reported that Louis was with his nanny.) She went into her bedroom, locked a safe door she had specially built after a threat by another stalker, hid in the closet and called 911. I don’t think the intruder had any weapons with him at the time but a raid on the man’s home found multiple machine guns. After that Sandra got a German Shepherd for protection and increased her security. The stalker committed suicide earlier this year during a standoff with police at his home. So this isn’t an abstract idea for Sandra, she’s had legitimately scary things happen to her. I don’t blame her for not bringing any of that up, I wouldn’t and maybe I wouldn’t even think of it during a quick interview. It’s not like Sandra is scared due to the news, she’s protective of her children and that’s understandable after what she’s experienced. Plus she’s famous and is a target.

I guess I’m still capable of being surprised by which royal stories “blow up.” I could not have cared less about the stupid “Meghan wore nail polish and cupped her belly, clutch yo’ pearls” story, so I didn’t even bother to include it in my coverage of Meghan’s appearance at the British Fashion Awards. I swear, like 80% of the comments were about her damn nail polish or Meg touching her own body. Earlier this week, I was also surprised by the strong opinions about Samantha Cohen’s exit as the Sussexes’ private secretary – we knew, months ago, that Cohen was a temporary hire, but that didn’t stop so many people from theorizing that Meghan is a terrible American diva who needs to stop being so American. Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair claimed that Meghan is looking to hire her own private secretary – rather than share one with Harry – and she hopes to hire a woman. Now Us Weekly has an exclusive about Cohen’s exit and what’s next, with some quotes from royal reporter Omid Scobie:
Various reports suggest Samantha Cohen is leaving her post because of discord with Meghan, with the news coming just weeks after the resignation of Meghan’s personal assistant Melissa Touabti. But the real reason is that Cohen only intended to help the royal couple for a certain amount of time, an insider tells Us.
“She’s not leaving because of any drama with Meghan,” the insider explains of the 50-year-old’s upcoming career change. “She agreed to stay for six months to help post-wedding and because Meghan and Harry were hoping a baby would come soon after that and knew they needed extra help. Samantha has a lot of respect for Harry and Meghan and enjoyed working for them. But her time is now up.”
Meanwhile, a Kensington Palace source tells Us that Cohen will be very busy in upcoming months, especially with the search for her own replacement. “It’s certainly a much longer post than six months,” the source says. “She is still working on Meghan’s first patronages, the baby, and more announcements in the months ahead.”
Royal expert Omid Scobie, who says the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have an “extremely warm and respectful” relationship with Cohen, also vouches for Meghan’s character. “I’ve gotten to know the people who Meghan has in her work world, and I’ve never heard a bad word said about Meghan,” he explains to Us. “Whether it’s members of charities going into the palace for meetings to work with her or household staff, everyone has a pleasurable experience working with her. They’ve really enjoyed her energy and personality. When you hear reports that she’s demanding or a diva, it’s hard to see where any of that comes from.”
Scobie adds: “I’m sure there are people in other royal households who don’t agree with some things that she does or with her delivery, and that is solely based on cultural differences. Americans are direct when it comes to business, and Brits are reserved. So, of course, some things can be misread at times. But I have yet to come across someone in the Kensington Palace household who has a bad word to say about Meghan.”
“When you hear reports that she’s demanding or a diva, it’s hard to see where any of that comes from.” It comes from racist a–holes. It comes from several different royals and royal-adjacents who have a vested interest in smearing her. I appreciate this though: “I’m sure there are people in other royal households who don’t agree with some things that she does or with her delivery, and that is solely based on cultural differences. Americans are direct when it comes to business, and Brits are reserved.” As I said on Monday – Meghan comes from the American entertainment industry and American business culture. She asks for what she wants and she has expectations of staff. And they can’t handle it.
