Time Magazine will announce their Person of the Year tomorrow, but they decided to hype it by releasing their “shortlist” on the Today Show this morning. I actually had to go and look up last year’s POTY: “The Silence Breakers,” with Taylor Swift on the cover, all about the Me Too movement. In 2016, Donald Trump was the POTY. Will he be the POTY in 2018? Here’s the 2018 shortlist:

YAS MEGHAN MARKLE AND RYAN COOGLER. I mean, I seriously doubt Coogler or Duchess Meg will be named the ultimate POTY, but I love that they both made the shortlist. I think that means they’ll both get some nice write-ups in the magazine too. As for who *should* get the title… Christine Blasey Ford felt like a cultural earthquake. Robert Mueller knows all, but I’m hoping he has much more to do in 2019. Jamal Khashoggi’s murder will have repercussions on the press and international diplomacy for years to come. I honestly don’t know who will get it.

Beyoncé doesn’t perform at parties on the regular. Beyoncé isn’t showing up at bat mitzvahs or birthdays or pre-wedding festivities for just anyone. So, what does it take for Beyonce to show up? You just have to be the heiress to the richest man in India, a successful businesswoman in your own right…
True story: I absolutely love dumb romantic comedies and “ladies are doing it for themselves” movies. Jennifer Lopez has made many of those kinds of films, and that’s what her latest is – Second Act is sort of like a mature version of the early ‘90s classic Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. Jennifer stars as a woman from the outer borough who, through lies and competence, finds herself at a high-powered job in Manhattan. I’ve watched the trailer a few times and I think it looks SO cute. It’s not going to win awards, but if you want to watch a silly, lady-centric movie over the holidays, I think this will do.
The LA premiere of Second Act was last night, and they did the styling for the premiere backdrop like a “winter wonderland.” Very Christmas-y. Jennifer wore a Valentino baby-doll dress, basically. While I think this dress is “too cute” for a 49 year old woman, I also think Jennifer looks amazing. Like, I would flat-out hate this on most women. Jennifer pulls it off, shoulder ruffles and all.
Jennifer also happily posed with her costars, Vanessa Hudgens, Milo Ventimiglia (he plays Jennifer’s boyfriend/husband) and Leah Remini (Jennifer’s long-time BFF in real life).

On the rare occasions we see Nikki Reed, I remember the fact that her husband, Ian Somerhalder, threw away her birth control by surprise when they were first dating. They admitted this happened, it’s not just a rumor, but they apologized and tried to downplay it later. So I worry about her, he seems controlling to me, but I hope I’m wrong about their relationship. Anyway Nikki has a jewelry line which is currently in a physical store in LA. It’s all sustainable, including the diamonds, which are grown a sciencey way with “seeds” of diamonds. The diamonds are gown in the lab and the result is an actual diamond, indistinguishable by the naked eye, even by experts. Lab grown diamonds are 30-40% cheaper than mined diamonds and come without the human cost. Here’s more from Nikki on her line:
All of the diamonds and stones Reed uses are Kimberley approved, which means the way they are acquired is totally “conflict-free.” And when it comes to Reed’s bridal line, every ring is made from cultivated diamonds — which are diamonds produced by a controlled process, as opposed to naturally occurring diamonds that are mined.
“Our cultivated diamonds are grown above ground using solar energy in California, and they’re grown from diamond seeds,” she says. “They are diamonds — there is nothing synthetic about them. But instead of mining for them, we can grow them because we, as human beings, have the technology. The social impacts and environmental impacts are huge.”
The Bayou with Love website explains that the diamonds they use are grown in a highly controlled environment that duplicates the conditions under which diamonds naturally develop when they form in the mantle, beneath the Earth’s crust. They are grown from the tiny carbon seeds of pre-existing diamonds, allowing people to enjoy real diamonds without the human and environmental toll of mining. These cultivated diamonds consist of actual carbon atoms arranged in the characteristic diamond crystal structure, and are made of the same material as mined diamonds.

Nikki also said that her line and the shop she’s in are women-founded businesses and that they strive to work with other women, which is admirable. I haven’t been in the market for a diamond in ages. I feel stupid that I didn’t know that lab grown diamonds were not only being made, but that they getting more sophisticated the past few years. Jewelers can’t tell the difference supposedly, and have to use machines to view the different patterns and luminescence of the diamond. My engagement ring is moissanite and I have nice stud earrings which are moissanite too. Some jewelers can see the difference between a moissanite and a real diamond, but so close most people can’t tell. Moissanite is less expensive than even a lab grown diamond. I’m not a big jewelry person but if I was I would absolutely want a lab grown diamonds instead of a mined one. Or another moissanite. I would be so happy with a moissanite tennis bracelet. (This isn’t a hint to anyone in my life! I’m just saying it would be pretty now that I’m thinking about jewelry.)

Michelle! Happy Birthday from your sister and partner-in-crime Allison! By request, here are Henry Golding and Dan Reynolds. Also Brad Pitt in A River Runs Through It – see below:
Every year, I get more and more scared of the flu. I think that’s the point of all the reporting on the flu – they’re trying to scare us and make us take it seriously, especially when we’re in the middle of a particularly deadly flu season. So I’ve started getting regular flu shots and whenever I get any kind of sniffle or sore throat, I’m eating Vitamin C gummies and sleeping more and just trying to knock sh-t out before it gets bad. I haven’t had anything more than a 48-hour cold for a few years now, and I’m very thankful that I’ve escaped the latest flu cycles. It helps that I’m (happily) childfree: kids catch everything, and they bring home their viruses and colds and the whole family gets infected. It’s especially rough for families with babies. So how far would a mom go to keep her baby away from the flu? In Kim Kardashian’s case, she’ll literally send her baby more than 2000 miles away to avoid the flu.
Kim Kardashian West is making sure her baby girl doesn’t get sick. The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star explained to Extra on Thursday that she sent her daughter, Chicago, to stay with her aunt Khloé in Cleveland to prevent her 10-month-old from catching the flu that’s going around the KKW Beauty mogul’s home.
“Yesterday was a hard day because we have the flu going around,” the mom of three told the outlet during the launch of her KKW Fragrance at Ulta Beauty in Los Angeles. “So once the flu happens, and I felt it in the house and my baby didn’t have it — Chicago — I sent her to Cleveland with Khloé. So I said… ‘Khloé, please take her for like four days, because she’ll get sick [at home] with everyone.“
[From Page Six]
I find this both reasonable and unreasonable. It’s reasonable because I feel like a lot of parents would totally do this too if they had the chance – send your baby to their aunt’s house thousands of miles away to avoid the flu, with an added bonus of making the auntie take care of the baby while you’re dealing with two other kids with the flu. It’s unreasonable because so few people have access to private planes and an auntie who has nothing else to do but take care of your baby. Still, I don’t really blame Kim for giving Chicago to Khloe for a week or whatever. Khloe’s been enjoying it too – I bet Chicago and True end up having a great cousin-sisterhood, like North West and Penelope Disick.

Dear Gossips,
The LA Film Critics Association has named Roma their best film of the year. Does that mean the Oscars will finally include a Netflix film in their Best Picture nominees? Well, that’s not the Oscar priority right now. They’re still trying to figure out who will host.
The day bef…
Angelina Jolie is the kind of person who still goes to malls and brick-and-mortar stores to shop. She probably knows that she could find everything she wants online, but I guess with six growing kids, she probably wants them to try on stuff before buying. So it happened again: Angelina got pap’d with some of her kids. Angelina took the three youngest kids – Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox – to the Grove in LA. They went to Crate & Barrel, Barnes & Noble and… I can’t see any other bags, but they probably went other places. The other day, I actually did some Christmas shopping in some stores too – I went to Pier One (didn’t buy anything) and Barnes & Noble (bought way too much).
We still haven’t heard much about the deal Angelina and Brad agreed to, even though “sources” claimed that Brad “got what he wanted,” even if what he got was less than 50% custody. I’m wondering if they negotiated a deal for Christmas too – does Angelina get the kids on Christmas morning, and Brad gets them on Christmas afternoon? Ah, divorced parents Christmas drama. Tensions will be high, no matter what. I predict we’ll be unwrapping some Jolie-Pitt Christmas beef on December 27th.
The kids look fine with their mom though. Those Jolie-Pitt genes are so funny – Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne all look alike. The only thing that bugs me is that everyone but Viv is covered up in warmer clothes. Maybe Vivienne just runs hot, no matter the temperature.

I did not come into this trailer expecting to be excited about this movie but here we are. We heard last year that Ben Affleck had dropped out of the Netflix film Triple Frontier, also starring hotties Charlie Hunnam, Oscar Isaac, Pedro Pascal and Garrett Hedlund. That announcement was made in June, 2017, about a full year before he went to rehab, and it was in the trade papers, it wasn’t just a rumor. Subsequent press about the film mentioned him however and the new trailer features him heavily however. It has an incredible ensemble cast and it’s a heist movie with a twist. The premise is that a group of military heroes, struggling to make ends meet, rob a notorious drug lord who lives in a fortress deep in the jungle. They tackle the robbery with precision and a plan, aided by an insider, played by Adria Arjona. It’s directed and co-written by J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year, Margin Call) and is also written by Mark Boal (Zero Dark Thirty, The Hurt Locker.) No wonder it looks so good!
Here’s the trailer, it’s out in March, 2019:
There are so many good lines in this trailer! The best are: “You’ve been shot five times and you can’t even afford to send your kids to college.” and “If we’d accomplished any of the things that we’ve accomplished in any other profession, we’d be set for life.”
Here’s the synopsis from Deadline:
The group reunites and plans a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America. For the first time in their prestigious careers, these unsung heroes undertake this dangerous mission for self instead of country. Things take an unexpected turn and threaten to spiral out of control, their skills, their loyalties and their morals are pushed to a breaking point in an epic battle for survival.
[From Deadline]
Some of the key action and planning scenes look incredible. Ben Affleck looks good too. He’s kind of a wooden actor, but he does stoic well and that’s what this role calls for. I really want to see Oscar Isaac. He was absolutely compelling in A Most Violent Year and I also liked him in The Last Jedi. (He was too good in Ex Machina in that I really hated him.) Triple Frontier will be playing in some theaters along with being streamed on Netflix. This is such a new release that Netflix doesn’t even have production photos up on their press site. Maybe they know this will sell itself. So many Netflix subscribers are going to watch it.

I understand that we all love to clown Donald Trump, because he’s the bigliest and dumbest clown around. But I actually get tired of his typos and malapropisms. Trump is changing our language for the worse, and he’s an international embarrassment. This morning, Trump got up bright and early to tweet about “smocking guns.” They are the new covfefe.
I mean… yes, everyone makes typos. Usually if I make a typo, it’s because I can’t spell for sh-t and I’m writing or tweeting too fast. But to misspell the word twice in one tweet and to leave that tweet up for hours? I feel like we’re getting played somehow. Like he wants us to talk about “smocking guns” rather than Don Jr’s imminent indictment:
[Last week], current and former White House officials gathered at the St. Regis in Washington, D.C., for an engagement party for former campaign staffer and CNN contributor David Urban, at once a reunion and seasonal celebration and a chance to compare notes on the gathering storm. The attendees included Dina Powell, Ivanka Trump, Anthony Scaramucci, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Tony Sayegh, a Republican strategist whom Trump appointed assistant secretary of the Treasury. “It was a garrulous holiday party,” one partygoer said, “but people were worried about Mueller. It’s not going anywhere.”
At the party, there was talk about Don Jr.’s ongoing legal exposure. “Don is very worried,” the attendee said. According to the source, Don Jr. departed this week on a hunting trip to Canada. “They think the bomb’s coming this week, and he doesn’t want to be anywhere near a microphone if the bomb drops,” the source said. In addition to fears that Don Jr. may have lied to Congress, he’s also said to be worried about his role as an executive at the Trump Organization.
[From Vanity Fair]
Nothing screams “innocent” like leaving town in a hurry when there are indictment rumors swirling. Or maybe the “smocking gun” is a distraction from the fact that Trump wanted Mother’s Husband’s chief of staff to be his new chief of staff, only the guy refused and then announced he was quitting. Maybe “smocking gun” means “fleeing like rats from a sinking ship.”
