The trailer for Avengers 4, officially titled Avengers: Endgame has finally arrived and we have some things to discuss. First, that title. After much overdone secrecy, it is revealed to be “Endgame”, a reference to Doctor Strange’s line in Infinity War. It’s fine. It hardly justifies the amount of c…
Regina King is getting supporting actress Oscar buzz for If Beale Street Could Talk, for which she was just nominated for a Golden Globe. She was also nominated for a Globe in the TV category for her work on Netflix’s Seven Seconds. So she’s killing it professionally at 47, and she’ll tell you that she works for it. Buzzfeed News has a new interview with Regina, conducted by Audie Cornish, whom you might know from NPR’s All Things Considered. I enjoyed watching her interview as she has very good career and life advice which I wanted to share.
On If Beale Street Could Talk making people uncomfortable
“I like to see people uncomfortable. I think that that’s when you get really to the truth… You get to hear what people honestly feel. I’m hearing a lot of people who see Beale Street saying they had an awakening when they watched the film.
“I feel like comfort zones are where dreams go to die,” King said. “So, that’s what I mean by ‘I like when people are uncomfortable,’ because I feel like you’re having an awakening.”
Audie told her she was a scene stealer in her roles
“Thank you, I don’t think that I look at it that way… I was lucky enough to come up under Marla Gibbs on 227 so I learned the importance of being a professional and how important it is to give 100%. I just look at every role that I have like ‘this is my moment.’”
On being the only woman of color on THR’s latest actress roundtable
“While I wish there were more [women of color] I still am not going to not appreciate the blessing to be in the conversation. At that table, looking at Glenn Close, and talking to Glenn Close, and her dropping a few jewels on me — I am not going to not receive that as a beautiful moment. It was, it is…bittersweet, I guess is the best way to put it.”
On Ellen Pompeo calling out Porter Magazine for a lack of color on their panel
“I can’t speak on what a white woman is feeling about why she is or isn’t, or is she even thinking about it, I don’t know,” King said to Cornish. “But I would guess that there are some actors that feel like if they do, they’re jeopardizing their position. They’re putting their space in jeopardy. I hope that there are going to be more women that are being honest. The role does not have to say African-American woman, Caucasian woman. There should be a possibility for any woman to have that role.”
On persisting in your career
[Regina says] making it in Hollywood requires “honesty” and “never giving up.”
“Because you will hit a time where you’re hearing ‘no’ more than you’re hearing ‘yes,’” King said… “And you just can’t let that ‘no’ shut you down.”
You can’t give up. I mean, like I said: I’m finally playing a superhero and I’ll be 48 in a couple of months,” she said.
On how to make a job change
“Even if your day job is whatever, lead with ‘I’m a director.’ Claim it.”
[From Buzzfeed, some quotes from video]
Regina’s advice about just saying you’re a director even if you don’t have a lot of experience reminds me of Jennifer Lopez saying that she regularly told herself at the beginning of her career that she was “a great actress, a great singer, a great dancer.” Lopez also emphasized the importance of just persisting at your job no matter what. I’m reading this book called Mindhacking, which is mostly rational emotive therapy, more clearly explained. (You can get it on Amazon and the PDF is free and legal.) The author uses a computer science metaphor to help us be aware of and change the negative thoughts, which he calls loops. That’s what came to mind when Regina explained her approach to her career. I get a lot of good advice from celebrity interviews actually.
Here’s the trailer for If Beale Street Could Talk! It’s out December 14th and looks so good but heartbreaking.

Jennifer Aniston is featured in the January 2019 issue of ELLE. The title of the profile: Jennifer Aniston doesn’t need a happy ending. A post shared by Tristan Thompson (@realtristan13) on Nov 22, 2018 at 8:46pm PST
Believe it or not, I completely understand this train of thought: my relationship with the father of my child is far from perfect, but I love being a mother and our child IS perfect, and I want to make another baby with this guy, even though our relationship is struggling. I get that. I actually think it’s quite common, more common than people admit. And we all know that couple too – the couple who should be looking for divorce lawyers, but they’re having another baby instead. So it is with Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson. Their relationship has been dying a slow, exhaustive death ever since Khloe learned that Tristan cheated on her throughout her pregnancy. She goes back and forth about breaking up with him every week. He’s waiting for her to dump him because he’s completely over this mess. But instead of breaking up, Khloe wants to get preg again.
What cheating scandal?! Eight months after Khloé Kardashian welcomed daughter True with Tristan Thompson, she and the 27-year-old Cleveland Cavaliers forward “are trying for another baby,” a source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. “She isn’t pregnant yet, but they are actively trying. Khloé loves being a mom. She wants True to have a sibling.”
Unfortunately, friends and family worry that Kardashian is blinded by love. “In her mind, she and Tristan are fine,” says the source, who adds that “nothing will stop” the Good American designer, 34, from expanding her family with Thompson — not even if he is repeating some old bad behavior.
[From Us Weekly]
It would be one thing if Khloe was like “I want to get pregnant and we make cute babies and I couldn’t care less about Tristan romantically.” It would feel honest. I would understand it, and I might even applaud that decision. But this feels more like a band-aid baby situation, where Khloe is so f–king delusional that she thinks Tristan truly wants to still be with her and that a second baby will fix everything. Spoiler: a second baby won’t fix anything, and he’ll just accumulate more mistresses during your pregnancy. Also: didn’t Kourtney do the same thing with Scott Disick? Their relationship was always struggling, but she just kept on getting pregnant. The Kardashian women are such clingers.

Dennis Quaid and his 32-year-old girlfriend, Santa Auzina, are still going strong, apparently. The couple have been together since 2016, famously getting together just two months after his split from third wife, Kimberly Buffington. The photos are from Wednesday night after they were spotted having dinner at Craig’s in West Hollywood. I kind of love Santa’s pj-inspired outfit. And I actually own a bathrobe-inspired coat that would match it perfectly. So now that these two crazy kids have logged two-years together, will Dennis make his fourth trip down the aisle. Uh, possibly, according to Dennis, who, “never count(s) anything out.”
Saying “I do” again? Dennis Quaid opened up about his love life and the possibility of getting married for the fourth time in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly.
“I never count anything out,” the actor, 64, told Us of getting hitched to girlfriend Santa Auzina at his Out of the Box album release party with his band, The Sharks, on Tuesday.
As for his relationship with Auzina, the Day After Tomorrow star says it’s pretty normal, despite their celebrity status.
“We love to go to dinner. I love to go to dinner at Catch, that’s our favorite restaurant. Love that place,” he said of typical date nights with his 32-year-old girlfriend. “Or just make a special night where we’re on the road. Go someplace and have her find a great restaurant that she really wants to go to. Or something like going to The Nutcracker with the kids. Whatever it is to get out.”
[From Us]
If Dennis is one of those people who falls in love with love, then I guess – good for him? If these women don’t know what they are getting at this point, I can’t really help them. “The kids,” to which he’s referring, would be Dennis’ oldest, Jack, his 26-year-old son with Meg Ryan, his 10-year-old twins with Kimberly and Santa’s two young twin girls. That’s a whole lot of young people for Dennis to keep up with. Dennis recently said that for Christmas, he and Santa (tee-hee) would be, “chilling out in Hawaii… doing nothing but watching the kids and chilling.” How does one ‘chill’ with four kids 10 and under?
I am a terrible gauge of true age, probably because I’m about to turn 50 and my eyes are shot, but there is some question in the CB workroom about whether Santa is actually 32-years-old. What does everyone think – let’s take a vote.
As for Dennis’ longest relationship, the one with his band The Sharks, that’s also going strong. This album, Out of the Box, is the first in the 18 years the band has been playing together. So see, Dennis can take some things slowly.
