Premiere of Netflix's 'Dumplin' - Arrivals

Here are some photos of Jennifer Aniston at the LA premiere of her new Netflix movie, Dumplin’. Jennifer made sure to pose with everybody, and she really worked that red carpet like a pro- she posed with producer/friend Scott Stuber,Dolly Parton (who did original songs for the film), Danielle Macdonald (who plays her daughter), Ted Sarandos (Netflix chief) and I’m sure there are photos of Jennifer and Courteney Cox somewhere – Cox came to the premiere to support her friend.

Jennifer wore a black Stella McCartney dress to the premiere. Jennifer Aniston and little black dresses go together like baby backpacks and the early ‘90s. I’m sure Jen has about 30 different versions of a long-sleeved, short-skirted little black dress in her closet, but sure, she needed this McCartney piece. It’s fine – it’s not a completely terrible Stella McCartney, but it does look sort of cheap (a Stella signature). I appreciate that Jennifer didn’t flat-iron her hair.

Jennifer has been making the promotional rounds all week, but only with her friendliest outlets. Here’s a clip of her interview with Ellen (what’s nice is that you can really tell that she believes in Dumplin’):

And here are some clips of her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live:

I honestly didn’t know which controversy would prove to be Kevin Hart’s biggest problem. Maybe that was his biggest problem – the infidelity and lies, the homophobia, the casual racism, all of that was a big confluence of “maybe the Academy should rethink Hart as Oscar host.” Just kidding, it was the homophobia that did him in. People took the time to go through his old social media posts (when really they just had to look at his stand-up?) and found a lot of homophobic and problematic sh-t. Initially, this was how Hart responded:

Which is a really weird way to respond when people are like “hey are you going to address your homophobic comedy and history of homophobic social media?” The narcissism of it was astounding, especially when he seemed to double-down in a series of videos:

2. Here’s the video that went along with the caption above. We’re clearly all annoying him. We’re an inconvenience. pic.twitter.com/5HgeNYjqmU

— Yashar Ali ? (@yashar) December 7, 2018

3. Now Kevin Hart says the Academy has offered him an ultimatum…apologize for the homophobic tweets or else. Kevin says he won’t be apologizing because he’s already “addressed” it in the past. Not clear when he did that. pic.twitter.com/6Zji1YSZyl

— Yashar Ali ? (@yashar) December 7, 2018

Just a few hours later, Kevin Hart announced that he was stepping down as the 2019 Oscars host.

I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.

— Kevin Hart (@KevinHart4real) December 7, 2018

I’m sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.

— Kevin Hart (@KevinHart4real) December 7, 2018

So Kevin Hart had the Oscar hosting gig for a full four days, basically. What kills me is that people who take these kinds of jobs – Oscars host, director of a giant Marvel film – don’t have the presence of mind to just delete their social media entirely, or at the very least, delete their history of problematic tweets or posts. They could even hire a crisis manager to do all that sh-t ahead of time. Oh well… who will be the Oscar host now? Considering the homophobia, I think they’ll hire Ellen DeGeneres to ride in and save the day. I still have my fingers crossed for Gritty and the Mandarin Duck though.

This is an older story that picked up some steam on Reddit earlier this year, but it’s new to me and I wanted to talk about it. Weird Al Yankovic, 59, once turned down a $5 million beer endorsement deal, I believe in 1990 when that was even more than it is now, because he thought it would be the wrong choice for his young fans. I learned about this because I follow his wife, photographer Suzanne Yankovic, on Instagram and she reposted a story about it. Here’s the post.

I couldn’t find the original source for this, but there are quotes online from the interview:

“I don’t have a whole lot of regrets. A number of years ago a beer company offered me five million dollars, back when that was a lot of money, to be their commercial spokesperson”.

He said he turned it down because, “a lot of my fans were young and impressionable, so ethically I believe I did the right thing, but not a day goes by when I don’t think, ‘Hmm, an extra five million dollars would really come in handy’.”

[From undercover.fm]

A commenter on reddit also mentioned that Weird Al was friends with actor Trinidad Silva, who was killed by a drunk driver in 1988. Another commenter puts the year Weird Al turned down the deal at 1990, although I can’t confirm that.

Years ago I was talking with a company that wanted to buy Celebitchy and have us still work here. The deal was close to seven figures, it was incredible and I could have bought a house, retired from this and gone on to something else. However I didn’t trust them, I thought they weren’t genuine about not changing our voice, and subsequent meetings with their editorial team confirmed this. I backed out of the deal. (Reading about the way The Superficial, Pink is The New Blog and IDLYITW were handled after they were acquired has made me feel better about this decision.) The last couple of years have been a little leaner than usual and we’re trying to supplement that by doing affiliate posts. We’re also considering doing a podcast like Dlisted and Lainey Gossip. Reading stories like this makes me feel pretty good about everything.

Here’s Weird Al and his family at the Halloween premiere. His wife, Suzanne, is best friends with Jamie Lee Curtis. I’m putting it on my bucket list now to have dinner with both of them.

Also Weird Al is friends with Lin Manuel Miranda and was at his star ceremony at the Walk of Fame!

After a @crossroadskitchen Thanksgiving with a @veggiegrill chaser dinner, drastic measures are called for. So Shecky and I spent our Black Friday morning hiking @runyoncanyon. This @ww ambassador went a little crazy with the points yesterday but I’m currently maintaining my weight at 198 pounds – which is less than I weighed when I made Clerks. And for my first Vegan Thanksgiving, the only food I truly missed was the Mondo Nachos I get every day at #veggiegrill. But we’re about to be reunited… #KevinSmith #blackfriday #thanksgiving #ww

A post shared by Kevin Smith (@thatkevinsmith) on Nov 23, 2018 at 11:59am PST

We’re approaching the one-year anniversary of Kevin Smith’s near fatal heart attack. Since that frightening wake-up call, Kevin changed many of his habits to live a healthier life. His doctor told him to lose 50 pounds and Kevin chose a plant-based diet to do so, inspired by his vegan daughter, Harley Quinn. Last month was Kevin’s first Thanksgiving with his new lifestyle and, as he mentioned in an interview before T-Day, he was planning on being faithful to it – but that doesn’t mean he’s trying to covert us, because, “he’s not that kind of vegan.”

Filmmaker Kevin Smith has plenty to be grateful for this Thanksgiving — starting with being alive.

The “Clerks” director survived a major heart attack in February that he thought was the end. Almost nine months later, he’s very much alive and ready to celebrate his first Thanksgiving as a vegan.

That will include a stop at Los Angeles’ Veggie Grill, where he eats almost daily, and Crossroads, an upscale eatery preferred by his vegan daughter Harley and vegetarian wife Jennifer. But don’t get Smith wrong — he’s not “that” kind of vegan.

“I’m not telling you how to live,” said Smith, an advocate for Farm Sanctuary, which is encouraging Thanksgiving celebrants to spare as many turkeys as possible Thursday. “We don’t put it in everybody’s face.”

According to the 48-year-old director, his near-death experience changed his diet, but his daughter lured him into vegan culture.

“She brings you into the vegan cult and they don’t tell you you’re going to become a spokesmodel,” Smith told the Daily News. “Then once I dropped a bunch of weight, the kid was like, ‘Now you have to bring other people into this’ and I was like, ‘What is this a Ponzi scheme?’ And she said, ‘You’re living as an example.’ ”

[From The Daily News]

I know vegans get a bad rap for ‘pushing’ their veganism on other people, but I have never had anyone try to sway me to a vegan diet. Either I am such a lost cause they don’t bother or I don’t know any vegans. I am inclined to think the real answer is most vegans aren’t ‘that kind of vegan’ but the pushy ones get all the press. However, Kevin’s comments about Harley Quinn telling him to ”bring others into this,” are interesting. I wonder if she’s saying that just because Kevin is famous. The good news is that Kevin is healthy and it sounds like whatever changes he’s made will keep him that way. I have to ask, though, what does a vegan Thanksgiving look like?

Another change to Kevin’s life seems to be a kinder, gentler Kevin. Much like his recently admitting his role in his fallout with Ben Affleck, when Kevin was asked about Bill Maher’s comments on the public mourning of Stan Lee’s passing, Kevin gave a pretty classy response. Lee was a friend of Kevin’s and as most know, Kevin’s quite involved in the world of comic books. When asked about Maher’s comments, Kevin responded, “Maybe he doesn’t understand the profound importance of what Stan Lee did from the ‘60s to the early ‘80s, creating a whole universe, it made happy kids grow up to be happy adults. It appears Mr. Maher didn’t have that experience.”. He didn’t let Maher off scot-free, though. Kevin added, “he has a TV show where he argues with people every week. That, to me, seems childish.” Although it’s a few middle fingers short of how I respond to Maher, it’s still a good response.

OK. So I know there might be some plot problems here. And still. I don’t care. I am willing to use my imagination because I can’t hate this idea. I cannot hate the idea of Tiffany Haddish and Awkwafina in a movie together. Tiffany broke out in 2017. It was her year. Awkwafina came through in 2018. T…

No couple is a stranger from fighting and that includes actor Dax Shepard and his actress wife Kristen Bell. And sometimes those little misunderstanding’s don’t happen at the most opportune time, like in front of your kiddos. Shepard revealed how he and Bell handle fighting in front of their two daughter’s they share together Delta, 5, and Lincoln, 3. It’s a tip the couple picked up in marriage counseling.

“You know, generally, kids see their parents get in a fight and then parents sort it out in a bedroom and then later they’re fine, so the kid never learns, how do you de-escalate? How do you apologize? So we try, as often as possible, to do that in front of them. If we fought in front of them, we want to also make up in front of them, Shepard, 43, revealed while out at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on Monday, December 3.

To the man mocked me in our wedding photos because I cried too many tears of joy, Who wore a baby Bjorn for 2 straight years to show his girls how to be as adventurous as possible, Who held our dear little shakey mann pup for 8 hrs straight on the day we had to put him down, I know how much you loved using. I know how much it got in your way. And I know, because I saw, how hard you worked to live without it. I will forever be in awe of your dedication, and the level of fierce moral inventory you perform on yourself, like an emotional surgery, every single night. You never fail to make amends, or say sorry when its needed. You are always available to guide me, and all of our friends, with open ears and tough love when its needed most. You have become the fertilizer in the garden of our life, encouraging everyone to grow. I’m so proud that you have never been ashamed of your story, but instead shared it widely, with the hope it might inspire someone else to become the best version of themselves. You have certainly inspired me to do so. I love you more than I ever thought I could love anyone, and I want you to know, I see you. I see how hard you work. You set an excellent example of being human. Happy 14th year sobriety birthday, @daxshepard. Xoxo

Dax and the Good Place actress, 38, are not only teaching their girls how to resolve arguments head on but are also teaching them about giving back. The Parenthood alum teamed up with Amazon this holiday season with the help of the e-commerce company’s virtual voice assistant Alexa. Customers are able to donate to a child in need and Shepard starred in an Instagram video for Amazon explaining how to.

“Just say, ‘Alexa, donate to Toys for Tots,’” Shepard explained in an Instagram video. “That’s it! @Amazon will do the rest.”

Shepard also admitted that he has explained to his two daughters that Santa Claus is not a real person. “This is going to be very controversial. I have a fundamental rule that I will never lie to them, which is challenging at times. Our 5-year-old started asking questions like, ‘Well, this doesn’t make sense, and that doesn’t make sense.’ I’m like, ‘You know what? This is just a fun thing we pretend while it’s Christmas.’”

But not to worry, even though Shepard’s girls are aware that Santa is not really coming down their chimney to deliver presents they still love the guy and have the holiday spirit.

“They love watching movies about Santa, they love talking about Santa. They don’t think he exists, but they’re super happy and everything’s fine.”
