Death, taxes and princess feuds – the only things we can count on anymore. By all accounts, the Duchess of Sussex has not spoken in person to Prince William and Kate since September 2022, during Queen Elizabeth’s funeral period. Meghan left that island and she’s never come back. Reportedly, she’s possibly spoken on the phone with King Charles but that’s probably the only communication she’s had with anyone in the family in over two years. Royal sources are constantly raging about how Prince William would never “allow” Harry and Meghan to do this or that, and how Kate feels the same way. But now there’s a report that Kate would like to bury some hatchets in the new year.

Kate and Meghan Markle will never be friends but the Princess of Wales is considering reaching out to the Duchess of Sussex, according to a source. Kate now wants to heal the feud between her husband Prince William and Prince Harry as well as her own rift with Meghan, a source has claimed.

An insider told Closer: “With all the water under the bridge and everything she’s been through this past year, she’s come to a place where she wants peace in every aspect of her life. Not just for herself, but for the sake of William and Harry, she’s very worried about what this long-running feud is doing to the both of them.”

A second source said: “This isn’t so much about wanting to be friends with Meghan – that’s never going to happen.”

They added: “A lot of people still think Kate would be justified to hang onto a grudge after the way Meghan has behaved, but she has no interest in that. Sure, there were hurt feelings a while ago but she’s ready to let it go – time has been a great healer.”

Meghan Markle has not travelled to the UK since September 2022 when she attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. The Duchess of Sussex opted not to attend King Charles’s Coronation in May 2023. Prince Harry has frequently returned to the UK over the last two years during solo appearances without his wife.

[From GB News]

“A lot of people still think Kate would be justified to hang onto a grudge after the way Meghan has behaved.” Meghan hasn’t done sh-t to that woman. Meghan only corrected the record after Kate and her terrible mother spread racist lies about Meghan for years. Notice that even in this keen fantasy, it’s more about Kate wanting to see or speak to Harry more than anything else. She wants to bury the hatchet with Harry and once again try to convince him to abandon his wife and children so he can be his brother’s scapegoat. They’re still going to be doing versions of this story when William is king, you know.

Major spoilers for Conclave.

I was so excited to see Conclave, I actually went to the theater to watch it right when it came out. Money and time well spent – Conclave is one of my favorite films of the year, and I believe it’s a major awards contender. Most people believe it will be shortlisted for the Best Picture Oscar, and many awards-prognosticators predict that Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini will pick up Oscar nominations. From what I’ve seen, there hasn’t been a larger cultural conversation about Conclave, I think because people don’t want to “spoil” the ending, the big reveal about the new pope. Stop reading now if you haven’t seen it yet and you want to be surprised!

So, it turns out that Megyn Kelly did not see Conclave in the theater. She waited to rent it or stream it, and she watched it over the weekend. She hated it, and she got on Twitter to bitch about it, and she spoiled the big reveal:

Just made the huge mistake of watching the much-celebrated “Conclave” & it is the most disgusting anti-Catholic film I have seen in a long time. Shame on Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci & John Lithgow for starring in it & shame on director Edward Berger (among others). “Spoiler:” They make THE POPE INTERSEX! This is the big exciting twist at the end. I wish I had known so I wouldn’t have watched it. There are almost no redeeming characters in the movie – every cardinal is morally bankrupt/repulsive. The only exception of course is the intersex pope (who – surprise! – has female reproductive parts) & the cardinal who keeps her secret – bc of course that kind of Catholic secret-keeping must be lionized. I’m disgusted. What a thing to release to streaming just in time for Christmas. They would never do this to Muslims, but Christians/Catholics are always fair game to mock/belittle/smear.

[From Megyn Kelly]

“There are almost no redeeming characters in the movie – every cardinal is morally bankrupt/repulsive.” Almost as if the Catholic Church is run by flawed men who are hungry for power and drawn to authority over women and children. Honestly, that was what Conclave was mostly about – all of the cardinals are flawed, some of them more than others. Some are racist, some have broken their vows, some are too politically active for their own good, and some are just bad at playing politics. Some are more progressive, some are bordering on fascist. Conclave plays out like a mystery, with Ralph Fiennes’s cardinal acting as the Poirot/Miss Marple trying to figure out what various cardinals are really up to. By the time we get to the end, the person who is elected pope is lovely, but he also has a secret: he’s intersex and he had no idea until well into adulthood.

Megyn posted her hissy fit on Sunday, hours before the Golden Globes. Conclave’s screenwriter Peter Straughan won a Golden Globe, and he was asked about Kelly’s comments. Straughan said, in part: “I don’t think the film is anti-Catholic. I was brought up Catholic. I was an altar boy. I think the core message of ‘Conclave’ is about the church always having to re-find its spiritual core, because it deals so much with power. That’s always been a careful, difficult balance. To me, that was a very central Catholic ideal that I was brought up with. I stand by it.” Plus, he just adapted it from the book!

Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw were so good in Black Doves, but I thought the series was lacking somehow. It needed more kick assery and less lovelorn pining. Plus it was so dark visuallly, like I could barely make out some of the scenes. It turns out that was a setting on Netflix I figured out after I squinted through the whole thing. Oh well. If you want to see an amazing spy/assassin show, watch Day of The Jackal with Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch! That’s worth subscribing to Peacock for.

Keira wore a Chanel empire waist sequin, velvet and feather gown that I would like better without the dippy bown at the top. She looks effortlessly luxurious though, there’s something so fashionable about her. It might be how tall and whispy she is. I also really like her blunt cut. As I mentioned earlier today, I’m so tempted to chop my hair into a bob, but I don’t know how versatile that would be. I’m thinking about it! Kerry was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series, Drama, for Black Doves. That category went to Anna Sawai for Shogun.

Keri Russell seems like she’s nominated for something just about every year. I guess she just picks prestige projects. She was also nominated in this category, for The Diplomat. Keri wore a giant white Stephane Rolland zoot suit dress. She takes a lot of risks with her fashion and they don’t always pay off. To her credit, she does not seem to give a sh-t and I admire that about her.

Jessica Gunning won Best Female Supporting Actor, Television for Baby Reindeer. She’s also won an Emmy and is nominated for Critics Choice Award for that role. I didn’t realize that she’s English, not Scottish like her character! Jessica was in a velvet Christian Siriano gown with a ruffled neckline. I love how rich and colorful this gown is. I love a good jewel tone, but we didn’t see that many last night.

Allison Janney was nominated in Jessica Gunning’s category, for her role in The Diplomat. She was also in Siriano, in a lovely cold shoulder navy column gown. The necklace makes the look! Check out her glambot video.

Miley Cyrus went to the Golden Globes as a nominee – she was nominated in Best Song, for “Beautiful That Way” from The Last Showgirl. Miley stayed true to herself, I guess, and wore this Celine dress which seemed slightly undercooked for the Globes. And yet, props to her for putting together a real look and not making an ass out of herself. Personally, I still haven’t gotten over her (alleged) buccal fat removal, which changed her face in a huge way. But other than that, she looks healthy and focused.

Ariana DeBose looked like the movie star she is at the Golden Globes – she wore a dramatic Oscar de la Renta which was perfect for her at this moment – classy, elegant, but not too “look at me” because she wasn’t a nominee this year.

Pamela Anderson also wore Oscar de la Renta – I saw her interview on E!, and she was just so honored to be nominated and invited to the show. She’s a really gentle soul, so I’m not going to say much about her dress. I will say that I love how her sons always have their mom’s back no matter what.

Amy Adams in Dolce & Gabbana – this was fine and the color was beautiful. I felt sorry for her because she was there for Nightbitch. She’s unfortunately going to be called “Nightbitch’s Amy Adams” for a while.

Let’s end with Isabella Rosselini, looking spectacular in Dolce & Gabbana. My guess is that the red is supposed to mimic something specific with the Catholic Church? Because she was nominated for Conclave (she didn’t win, boo).

Thomas Markle gave yet another psychotic exclusive to the Daily Mail. For what it’s worth, this wasn’t something hastily pulled together so Toxic Tom could try to hijack his daughter’s promotion for her Netflix show. This seems like something Tom organized days or even weeks beforehand. His new storyline is that he’s moving to Asia. The man left California years ago and has lived full-time in Mexico for the better part of a decade, but the Mail seems to think that Mexico is part of California, because their headline is “Meghan’s father: I’m leaving America for a new life abroad.” Dude already “left America.” The psychotic part is that Tom invited the Mail inside his home to watch him pack up his belongings. Of course, he started with all of his photos and videos of Meghan, all of which he’s already sold or licensed to the Mail and other outlets. Some lowlights from the Mail:

A fresh start: Mr Markle told The Mail on Sunday he has decided to up sticks and leave the cliffside house in Mexico he has called home for ten years. Mr Markle, 80, has suffered two heart attacks and a stroke in recent years, and says his decision to seek a new life abroad is because he is seeking ‘peace’ and ‘kinder people’.

He let the Mail watch him pack: I was with Mr Markle this week as he packed up a lifetime of memories. We drank PG Tips and ate endless mince pies as he sorted his possessions into packing boxes and burned those things he did not wish to keep. Here were Meghan’s school reports describing her as a child who ‘demonstrates constant effort and is active in classroom discussions’ – dog-eared documents he first received when she was nine years old and which he has treasured all these years. And there were endless photographs of Meghan – feeding the ducks with her dad, playing crazy golf, laughing during fishing trips to a neighbouring lake…Each photograph was carefully placed in a plastic bag for protection and then put into boxes for the long journey to wherever life may next take him.

He’s not brave: When I tell him he is ‘brave’ to start anew at 80 years old he shrugs, smiles and says: ‘I don’t know if brave is the word. I am ready for a change. I have felt stuck in a rut for some time and I am ready to meet new people and experience kindness.’

Meghan’s first husband: On one table there were videos of Meghan’s first wedding to Hollywood producer Trevor Engelson, who she married on a beach in Jamaica in 2011 only to divorce in 2014 – two years before she met Prince Harry on a blind date. ‘I really liked Trevor,’ Mr Markle said softly. ‘I don’t think he ever understood why she dumped him, either.’

LOL, the Sussexes are still not speaking to him: Incredibly, he has yet to meet his son-in-law Prince Harry or his grandchildren Archie, five, or three-year-old Lilibet, who was named after the late Queen. He has come to accept that he most likely now never will – although, for him, the door remains constantly open. The Emmy-award winning Hollywood lighting director has not renewed the lease on his Mexican rented home. Instead, he is planning to travel and explore his options with his son Tom Jr, 58, Meghan’s half brother. ‘I don’t know where I’ll end up but it is time to move on and find a place where I can live among kind people and enjoy the time I have left,’ he said.

[From The Daily Mail]

Methinks the Mail is being so heavy-handed with how “sad” this is because they can’t count on Tom to trash his daughter at a moment’s notice whenever they need a story. Other than his big move, nothing has changed in six-plus years. Meghan still isn’t speaking to him, and he’s still getting paid to sell her out constantly. Inviting a Daily Mail reporter into his home while he packs his things is one of the grossest things he’s ever done, and that’s saying something.

I might have to eat my words. For years, there’s been royal drama about the Princess of Wales’ indecision about where to send her children to high school/prep school. For the Windsors, the choice should have been obvious, at least for where to send Prince George and Prince Louis. Of course they would go to Eton, one of the most “elite” all-boy schools in the world. Eton is where Prince William and Harry went, and it’s where King Charles wanted to go. Kate has waged a public battle for years to send the kids to a co-ed facility, and I don’t think she wants them to leave home and go to a full-time boarding school. I always thought Kate was fighting a losing battle when it came to George, that William would get his way, and the establishment would get their way and George would go to Eton. But according to a Daily Mail exclusive, Kate won and George will go to her alma mater, Marlborough.

The Princess of Wales’s former school Marlborough College has been chosen for all three of her children, according to insiders. After months of speculation, they claim the choice is so likely that the discussion has even turned to where Prince George, 11, who would be the first of the trio to attend, will be housed.

A source at the £59,000-a-year Wiltshire school told The Mail on Sunday there had been a focus on which of the school houses on the 286-acre site could be assigned to Prince George. Marlborough has six all-boys’ houses, six all-girls’ houses and four mixed houses, many dotted around the campus at the school or in the nearby fashionable market town of Marlborough. Sources say that C1 House, an all-boys’ house for 59 pupils at the heart of the school in what is known as the College Court, has been earmarked for Prince George for security reasons.

The well-placed insider said: ‘Parents have been talking about nothing else and discussions have really ramped up in recent weeks but security is obviously a massive consideration. Prince George will have to be housed in an “in house” – these are the houses that are around the main quad of the school. The “out houses” are scattered down the Bath Road, and these present more of a security risk as they are just big houses on their own and involve a lot more walking around which is the downside of Marlborough.’

C1 House has a royal history. It was once the home of the Seymour family, who moved on to nearby Wolf Hall, the inspiration for Hilary Mantel’s books. Lady Jane Seymour was the third wife of King Henry VIII. The school’s alumni include poets Siegfried Sassoon and John Betjeman and more recently comedian Jack Whitehall and Princess Eugenie.

[From The Daily Mail]

The allure of Marlborough, for Kate, is that it’s close to Middleton Manor in Bucklebury. I remember reading some snide commentary, years ago, about how Kate went home often when she was in school and Carole was still very hands-on with Kate even when she was in school. Kate wants the same thing with her kids, and I’m surprised that she would even agree to ANY boarding school. There are other allures for Kate too – she would be able to send all three kids to the same school, which is very important to her. Kate is very anti-same-sex education and I think she worries about sending either son to an all-boys school. So did Kate win and how? I wonder.

Kristen Bell bugs me a lot. I think it’s her tendency to overshare coupled with her terrible “I don’t see color” children’s book. I have to give her props though for her excellent Ashi metallic gown last night, if not for her severe styling. Kristen was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, for her work in Netflix’s Nobody Wants This. A lot of people watched that, but I avoided it because I can’t stand her. Maybe I’ll get over that.

Jean Smart won in that category for Hacks. Hacks also took home Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy. This is Jean’s second Globe. She was in Rhea Costa. Queen.

I’m including presenter Mindy Kaling as she’s in Ashi too. Mindy’s gold strapless column gown was just as much of a knockout look as Kristen’s but Mindy’s hair and makeup was way better. Mindy is featured in Duchess Meghan’s upcoming cooking and lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan. She said on the red carpet that she was invited to be a guest on Meghan’s show when she was postpartum from her last baby and that “When you hang out with Meghan you know the food is going to be good.”

I would have made Ayo Edebiri the headliner for this post but there are hardly any photos of her (from our agencies) in this cool-looking Loewe suit. Ayo won a Globe in this category last year and she was nominated. A lot of people were saying she was channeling Julia Robert’s 1990 suit at the Globes. I see it!

Kathryn Hahn absolutely nailed the lead in Agatha All Along. I would have liked to have seen more recognition for that transcendent show, like this was the only nomination! Where were the nominations for Joe Locke and Patti LuPone? The writing was among the best I’ve ever watched in a series. I bought a damn t-shirt I loved this show so much. Kathryn was in Altuzzura. Somehow she makes this work. Look at this fierce bitch. She’s wearing a 90s belt!

I’m including Anora’s Mikey Madison here as she was also in a fabulous gold gown. Mikey is in Bottega Veneta. She was captivating in Anora. I really enjoyed that movie but I could tell a man wrote it. There were decisions that I did not think Mikey’s character would have made. That’s all I’ll say about it as I know a lot of you haven’t seen it yet. Mikey was nominated in the Best Actress category, which went to Demi Moore. I hope Mikey gets an Oscar nomination, she deserves it.

I would guess that the Best Actress in a Limited Series category was very tight, although admittedly I’ve only seen one of the shows in full, True Detective: Night Country. I really despised Jodie Foster’s character and was kind of mad at her, which always makes me think that the actor embodied the role, you know? When I hate them I know they’re doing their job well. I don’t have a designer ID on Jodie’s lovely black sheath gown yet, but it has pockets! I like how classic and comfortable it looks. Jodie’s speech was so tight and fun to watch. She started by talking about her community and giving a shout out to Sofia Vergara, who had just lost in that category and shouted out “give me one.” The vibe at the Globes last night was very casual.

Sofia was nominated for Griselda. She was in Georges Chakra, in a gown we’ve seen hehr wear in so many variations over the years. She knows what works for her and she looks gorgeous. I know she’s living her best life. I guess I feel kind of protective of her after knowing so much about her love life.

Cristin Milioti embodies the anti hero in this killer black velvet gown with a spiky sequin bustline. A lot of people are saying she was robbed of a Globe last night. I’ve only seen a couple episodes of The Penguin, but wow can she act. I know we’ll be seeing more of her. Look at her syling too! Kudos to her whole team.

Kate Winslet was in this crisp white and black embellished Erdem suit. We need more suits on the red carpet. She was nominated in this category for The Regime, which I don’t think a lot of people saw. I didn’t hear too much about it other than the initial buzz. Don’t make fun of me, but I finally watched The Holiday this season. I don’t know what took me so long, it was such a sweet entertaining film.

My girl Naomi Watts was in a formitting Schiaparelli gown with a weird half moon half straight hem. Somehow this works, maybe it’s because I have so much affection for her. She makes me want to get a blunt bob. Naomi was nominated for Feud: Capote vs. the Swans. Her husband Billy Crudup’s beard is a real choice. I couldn’t figure out if it’s for a role or not. I hope so.

Last year, Emma Stone shaved her head for yet another film with Yorgos Lanthimos, this one shooting in Europe. It’s called Bugonia, aka The One Where Emma Stone Shaved Her Head. Emma appeared on some red carpets last year, post-shave, and she wore wigs to hide her new look. But at the Golden Globes last night, Emma debuted the grow-out: a choppy pixie. While I’ll defend Emma for shaving her head for a film, I will never defend a pixie! NEVER. Oh well – it will grow out. At least, I hope she’s in the process of growing it out. Her dress last night was Louis Vuitton. I actually like it?

Rachel Brosnahan in this green Vivienne Westwood dress was one of my favorite looks of the night. I love a redhead in a rich shade of green – Julianne Moore has done this too and it always looks fantastic. The green pendant is lovely too.

I could take or leave Alexandra Daddario’s Vivienne Westwood look, but I’d just like to point out that Alexandra just gave birth to her first child in November. She probably wanted to wear something more covered-up, thus the feathers.
