Last week, we heard the funny news that Adele and Ed Sheeran had turned down invitations to perform at King Charles’s three-day coronation weekend. Charles and the British government will burn through more than $100 million on the coronation festivities, which include some kind of coronation concert. Only no one wants to perform at the concert. Buckingham Palace keeps openly and publicly pursuing British singers and British bands and the palace keeps getting turned down. As in, no one wants to be associated with this sh-tshow. Hilariously, Elton John, the Spice Girls and Harry Styles have now turned down Chubbly Concert invitations too.
Three A-list stars have reportedly turned down the opportunity to perform at King Charles’ Coronation concert this spring. The concert is set to take place at Windsor Castle on Sunday 7 May, with a slew of stars taking to the stage to mark the occasion. Music man of the hour Harry Styles, legendary hitmaker Elton John and ’90s pop sensations the Spice Girls are all said to have been approached.
According to The Sun, the three acts all turned down the opportunity due to their busy schedules. MailOnline has contacted representatives for Buckingham Palace, Harry Styles, Elton John and Spice Girls for comment.
Harry is currently city-hopping with his concert tour, named Love On Tour, and will be performing in Coventry in May. While the Spice Girls, who were made up of Victoria Beckham, Mel C, Mel B, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton and split up in 2000, were said to reunite for the coronation. Last month, they were reported to be coming back together for the concert – but now appear to have turned down the performance.
Elsewhere, Take That are reportedly set to join the star-studded line-up of acts, including sisters Kylie and Dannii Minogue. The iconic boyband, which now consists of Gary Barlow, 52, Mark Owen, 51, and Howard Donald, 54, are said to be headlining the event at Windsor Castle in May, according to The Sun. It is expected that Jason Orange, who left the band in 2014, could also sing with them in the celebration. However, Robbie Williams is understood to not be appearing in the show.
The show is being broadcast on the BBC, a day after the King’s Coronation and is expected to draw in huge ratings.
I mean… if Kylie Minogue is performing, I’m sure her fans will tune in, but beyond that… like, why would anyone care? It’s amazing that the palace even approached Elton!! Elton was good friends with Diana, Elton persuaded Harry to hire his own lawyers and sue the pants off of British tabloids. Elton John is not here for Charles’s clownery. It looks like the Spice Girls have no interest either. And of course Harry Styles is way too big and important for any of this. LMAO!! Please tell me the palace will go to Radiohead only to be personally insulted by Thom Yorke.
Jenna Ortega wore Versace to last night’s SAG Awards. Did it look like she was wearing a trash bag? Kind of. But I like it – it’s high-fashion goth, which is her brand. Considering the wild success of Wednesday, Jenna will probably have to stick with “goth princess” for a while. Anyway, I love this.
Cate Blanchett also wore Versace. This was a reworking of an older Versace gown she wore years ago. Cate is very into sustainable fashion, and during the Tar promotion and awards season, she’s been rewearing old pieces or having old gowns reworked. It’s been pretty amazing, and I like this for the most part. It was also nice to see Cate lose a big award to Michelle Yeoh. Maybe the Oscar race is more unstable than we thought.
Cara Delevigne in Carolina Herrera. People were falling all over themselves to praise this look and Cara’s more subdued vibe. Sure. She kept it together for a red carpet and that’s about it.
Haley Lu Richardson in Carolina Herrera. It’s a surprisingly good look for her? She spent most of White Lotus dressed like a ‘90s reject, so it’s nice to see her make an effort and wear a real gown.
Meghann Fahy in Ralph Lauren. She’s so beautiful and she has the lean, lanky proportions of a model. This veers on “too simple,” but she looks elegant and lovely.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have spent decades lying and scheming to get what they want, and all of those efforts have come into fruition this year. Camilla will be known as “Queen Camilla” now, not Princess Consort or even Queen Consort. She will have all of the jewelry (minus the Koh-i-Noor) she wants. And now, she’s taking steps to ensure that her children and grandchildren will be included in the coronation too. Keep in mind, Camilla and Charles are still playing stupid games about Charles’s mixed-race grandchildren, but his all-white step-grandchildren? He’s all about including them.
The Queen’s grandchildren will have a prominent official role at the coronation and Prince George is also set to feature in the service, in two significant breaks with royal precedent. In a “bold move”, the King and Queen have decided that her grandchildren, who have long been shielded from the limelight, will be included in the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on May 6, to signal their closeness to Charles and his consort.
Camilla, 75, has five grandchildren, who call her by the nickname “GaGa”. Her son, Tom Parker Bowles, has Lola, 15, and Freddy, 13, and her daughter, Laura Lopes, has Eliza, 15, and twins, Louis and Gus, 13. She is devoted to them, as is Charles, who read Harry Potter to them when they were younger and did impersonations of the characters in JK Rowling’s series about the boy wizard. Camilla’s decision to include the five teenagers sends a strong message that she and Charles are a couple who reflect the realities of modern life, of which “a blended family is a central element”. Unlike the 1950s, when Elizabeth’s coronation took place, step-parents and stepchildren are common as a result of divorce.
Buckingham Palace has said the coronation “will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry”. It is understood that Camilla has asked her grandchildren to hold the canopy over her as she is anointed with holy oil during the most sacred part of the ceremony. Duchesses have previously performed the role. A royal source said: “The Queen Consort has said she does not want duchesses. She would like it to be her grandchildren.”
In another break with tradition, a significant role for George, nine, is being discussed. The King and Queen are due to meet the Prince and Princess of Wales soon to talk about possible options. Royal sources say Charles and Camilla are eager for George, as a future king, to feature, and William and Kate are also keen, provided a role can be found that does not subject him to overwhelming scrutiny.
A source who knows the King and Queen well said of their decision to give Camilla’s grandchildren an official role: “It sends a nice signal and is quite a bold move. It is another example of the King and Queen Consort being unafraid to shake things up a bit to reflect the realities of modern life, of which a blended family is a central element.”
The inclusion of Camilla’s grandchildren and Prince George in the two-hour ceremony is likely to further fuel speculation over whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will attend the service, and whether they will be accompanied by their children, Archie, who will be four on coronation day, and Lilibet, who will be nearly two. Palace sources have indicated that the Sussexes will be invited as “much loved” members of the King’s family but Harry and Meghan have not yet indicated whether they will attend.
I hope this is the thing which convinces the Sussexes to stay home, honestly. There are two lines of palace briefings happening concurrently. One, “Harry must be punished,” we hate Harry and Meghan, we don’t want Meghan to come, Meghan and her children should stay away, we’ll boo the mixed-race royals, Harry won’t even be seated with his family! Two, look at this gloriously blended modern family, look at how much Charles adores his step-grandkids, Charles and Camilla are going out of their way to include Camilla’s family because that’s their priority. Yeah. Opting out is always an option, Haz. The message will be clear, just like it was during the Jubbly, when they made such a BFD about the all-white balcony.
The part about George is coming straight from Buckingham Palace too – the palace briefed multiple outlets about how the coronation would lean into imagery highlighting the line of succession, meaning lots of shots of Charles, William and George together.
Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:00
We were off last week as I was sick. I’m watching 911: Lone Star and The Last of Us. Chandra saw Aftersun, which seemed like a student film. She loved The Fabelmans and Wakanda Forever. You can listen below!
Royals: Minutes 4:00 to 22:00
Kate tried to counter one of Meghan’s really mild points about her in the Netflix documentary and in Harry’s book – that Kate didn’t hug her. Instead of owning that she’s not a hugger, Kate has been hugging people. In case we didn’t get the message, there was an article with a quote from former Brexit leader Nigel Farage that Kate didn’t hug Meghan because she “only hugs people she likes.” There was also a story that Kate hiring a new private secretary was “revenge on Meghan.” Meghan has never said that Kate’s staff is incompetent but these stories are giving that message.
Last weekend we had the BAFTAs, which Kate attended in a boring white chiffon gown. She had Jenny Packham alter the McQueen gown she wore to the 2019 BAFTAs and paired it with black opera gloves and gaudy earrings from Zara. We wondered why she didn’t wear some of the royal jewelry. Her glove designer gave an interview to People Magazine in which she called opera gloves “iconic” and “transformative.” I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about Kate’s fashion.
Kate wore a classic Meghan look when she went to a senior center on Fat Tuesday to make pancakes. A photo of Kate flipping a lumpy pancake went viral, but it likely wasn’t her fault and may have been due to the burner or batter.
Last week South Park ran an episode featuring the Sussexes. The British press was like “Americans hate Harry and Meghan!” but many of us were surprised it’s still running. After the Sussex episode was met with glee, people pointed out that South Park skewered Will and Kate too after their wedding. The British press kept running stories about how upset Meghan was at South Park and how the Sussexes wanted to sue them. Their spokesperson finally shut it down with a simple statement.
The British press is doing the most to bait Harry into coming to the coronation on May 6th. We’ve heard that Charles just won’t have the time to meet with Harry, that Harry is still deciding whether to come and The Daily Mail is saying that it won’t matter whether Harry and Meghan come or not because they can’t win either way. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about whether Harry will go to the Chubbly. Chandra thinks the Sussexes are still deciding whether to go and if Harry goes he’ll bring Meghan and the children. She mentions a story from last week where Harry wouldn’t come to the Chubbly if he thought it would be as toxic as his grandmother’s funeral.
Comments of the Week: Minutes 22:00 to end
My comment of the week is from Fuzzy Crocodile on Peridot’s post about Lil Nas X adopting kittens.
Chandra’s comment of the week is from StLuGal on the post where Evangeline Lilly revealed what an a-hole she is.
Thanks for listening bitches!
Ana de Armas is a brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton, and I believe that most of her looks are custom-made by the atelier. Which means that she doesn’t have to wear most of the crap they throw down the runway. But if she’s getting custom looks, don’t you think they should be more… noteworthy? I don’t know. She wore this LV look to last night’s SAGs and while the silhouette is generally fine and the style is okay, I just dislike this? The detail on the straps bug me. Anyway, while Ana has been nominated for lead actress awards across the board, she’s not winning anything for Blonde. Thank god.
Danielle Deadwyler in Louis Vuitton. I like this? Danielle has been getting some really good looks during the awards season. I like this LV better than Ana’s.
I don’t think Barry Keoghan has worn a traditional black-and-white tuxedo the entire awards season, bless him. I like that he’s mixing it up. Lovely guy. He seems to enjoy being at the Hollywood award shows, he was cozying up to the EEAAO people, especially Jamie Lee Curtis.
Speaking of refusing to wear a traditional tux, here’s Eddie Redmayne in Saint Laurent. He looks wonderful!

Here are some photos from this weekend’s NAACP Image Awards. Zendaya, as always, was a huge hit on the red carpet. She’s such a Fashion Girl, my God. What’s amazing about Zendaya is how she elevates boring or even bad looks. Like, this Versace gown is – by itself – not all that great. The little fabric suction cups on her chest are simply a bad design element. But the effect overall is that Zendaya looks amazing, because she’s so beautiful and fresh. I love her lil’ haircut too, that length is PERFECT on her.
Blac Chyna looks surprisingly put together in this orange gown. I dislike orange, in general, and the shoulders of the dress bug me, but whatever. This was an okay appearance for her.
Yara Shahidi in a mullet dress – to me, Yara is a lot like Zendaya in that they’re young and they have great fashion sense and a lot of young people are incredibly inspired by them. This look is a miss though – the color is the only thing I like.
Regina Hall – I actually love this dress? It looks so cool. Zendaya would be fire in this dress.
Sophia Bush looked dowdy as hell, but good for her.
Shannon Thornton in Tony Ward. This is such a throwback look to the early ‘00s. Paris Hilton used to wear dresses like this all the time.
Angela Bassett won Entertainer of the Year at the NAACP Image Awards and in her speech she made a joke that she “did the thing.” Just like the lyrics from Ariana DeBose’s much-panned opening rap from the BAFTAs. When Angela appeared on the red carpet for the Image Awards, she told Variety she reached out to Ariana after the BAFTAs to check on on her and make sure she was okay. That’s nice!
Angela Bassett has simply done the thing once again. After being name-dropped by Ariana DeBose in a rap that opened the BAFTA Film Awards, the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” star tells Variety that she reached out to DeBose in the aftermath to check in on her.
“I DM’d her last night. I did. It was beautiful,” Bassett told Variety senior entertainment writer Angelique Jackson on the red carpet at the NAACP Image Awards on Saturday evening. “I just wanted to make sure she was okay because, you know, it’s a lot of attention. And she is A-Okay.”
Bassett’s mention was one of the catchier lyrics in DeBose’s opener. DeBose, who won last year’s BAFTA and Academy Award for best supporting actress for her performance in “West Side Story,” kicked off the British Academy Film Awards on Feb. 19 with a rap that name-dropped several of the evening’s nominees, including directors honored in debut feature and women competing in both the lead actress and supporting actress categories. The production also featured renditions of “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves” and “We Are Family.”
The number took on a life of its own on social media in the following days, drawing both derisive commentary and perverse but full-hearted commendations, among a wide range of responses.
Bassett is nominated for the entertainer of the year award at the NAACP Image Awards. During a virtual ceremony earlier this week, she was honored with the body’s award for best supporting actress in a motion picture for her performance in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
It was really kind of Angela to reach out to Ariana and make sure she was okay after she got roasted for that BAFTAs number. I share Kaiser’s sentiment in feeling bad for Ariana that she got so much flack for a silly little thing. I guess Angela felt the same and it’s good that she checked on her because it was a lot of unnecessarily negative attention. Things just snowball on the internet. And Angela Bassett did do the thing so Ariana wasn’t technically wrong. Anyway, in addition to the joke, Angela’s acceptance speech was nice. She thanked Spike Lee, Malcolm X’s wife Betty Shabazz, John Singleton and Ryan Coogler for their impact on her career. And she wore a Greta Constantine dress. Angela always looks great — the color looked lovely on her and I liked the cut of the dress itself, but those sleeves look like giant scrunchies.

Janelle Monae gave up her black-and-white suits and Dr. Seuss-type fashion and the result has been incredible. She’s a goddess and she dresses like it now! Janelle attended the NAACP Image Awards in this custom Cong Tri. The dress itself looks like a million other cut-out dresses we’ve seen before, but because we rarely see Janelle in anything so sultry, she stands out. She looks incredible!
Issa Rae looked like a bridesmaid, but she did a really great bit with Jonathan Majors. That lovely Virgo man!

Kerry Washington in custom Fendi Couture. Imagine getting something customized and it comes out looking like… a boring-ass black dress.
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade received the President’s Award for their work on trans issues publicly and privately with their daughter Zaya. This moved me to tears.
Serena Williams wore a custom Brandon Blackwood gown to the NAACP Image Awards on Saturday. This is such a great look on her and it feels authentic to where she is now in her life, as a 40-something retired tennis player, businesswoman and mother. It’s sophisticated but still sexy, still Serena. Serena picked up the Jackie Robinson Image Award, here’s her speech:
Viola Davis – I love how much purple she’s worn throughout the awards season, she looks incredible in jewel tones. Viola picked up the Image Award for Best Actress for The Woman King. Good – she should have gotten an Oscar nomination for it too.
The women of Abbott Elementary were out in force at the Image Awards too! Quinta Brunson wore Dundas, Sheryl Lee Ralph wore Pistis Ghana and Janelle James wore Christian Siriano. I love that Lisa Ann Walter came out too! These women are having the times of their lives getting all dressed up for awards shows.
I had no memory of this, but Prince William and Kate traveled to Sweden and Norway in January 2018, when Kate was pregnant with Louis. It was in Sweden, when she was visibly pregnant, that she first wore this Catherine Walker houndstooth coat in red and cream. Five years later, the coat was pulled out and likely retailored, and Kate wore it on Saturday for the Six Nations rugby match in Cardiff. I was meh on the coat in 2018, and I’m still kind of meh on it? At least it wasn’t a repeat of the same old green and blue coats, I guess. This time, Kate paired the coat with black tights, black boots and a black turtleneck. Sure. (Ooof, those buttons!!)
Kate is now the patron of English rugby, and William is the patron of Welsh rugby. The Six Nations match was between England and Wales, and England won. Kate was apparently quite pleased. Before the match, William and Kate met with injured players who receive support from the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust. Kate seemed especially animated. They didn’t bring any of their kids for this rugby match. My guess is that they left the kids at home because the Six Nations thing was in Wales, meaning there was more extensive travel involved.
Also: Kate wore a pair of diamond earrings to RUGBY. Meanwhile, at the BAFTAs, she wore those tacky-ass, cheap-ass Christmas ornament earrings.
