A few months ago, Jennifer Lawrence neared a $20 million deal to star in Passengers. The film is a space drama, which is the worst news about this project. There have been several similar films in past years, and Matt Damon’s The Martian looks pretty epic. Do we need another space drama?
Sony was hesitant about that aspect and also about JLaw’s salary, but after the Sony hack revealed her sketchy American Hustle salary, the studio will probably pay up. JLaw would have a smaller role than her male co-star, Chris Pratt (who would make $12 million). Now that Jurassic World hit a home run, Sony has greenlighted the project. Deadline tried to sound cautious about the story, but Hollywood Reporter confirms the project will happen:
Pratt’s fee has jumped from $10 million to $12 million while Lawrence is getting an exceptional $20 million against 30 percent of the profit after the movie breaks even, say sources.
Hollywood’s two hottest stars are teaming for a new movie set in outer space — but only after quite a bit of behind-the-scenes drama could have taken it out of Sony’s orbit.
Sony Pictures’ new motion picture chairman Tom Rothman has greenlighted Passengers, a big-budget romantic sci-fi drama starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt with Oscar nominee Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) set to direct. And thanks to a deal that tied his remuneration to the success of Jurassic World, which broke box-office records with a $524.1 million global opening over the June 12 weekend, Pratt’s fee has jumped from $10 million to $12 million.
Lawrence, an Oscar winner and considered a top star, is getting an exceptional $20 million against 30 percent of the profit after the movie breaks even, say sources. Sony declined to comment.
Whatever the famously fiscally prudent Rothman’s misgivings might have been about paying such big bucks to talent or risking $150 million on an original script that has floated around Hollywood for years, he now finds himself in possession of a two-hander star vehicle with the most in-demand male and female actors in the business.

It’s funny how Hollywood balks at the idea of “an original script.” They’d rather have a proven franchise on their hands, obviously. This film could sink or swim. Even with plenty of star power and talent, sometimes a project doesn’t work for audiences. Remember how everyone thought Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie would be electric together in The Tourist? I hope this project isn’t a giant disaster for JLaw and Pratt. If it is, he’d probably be forgiven before she would. That’s how showbiz works.
P.S. Pratt did a Nerdist podcast and said he’s glad to be a late acting bloomer: “It’s a good thing I wasn’t famous when I was young because I was doing things that would’ve ruined people’s perception of me.”

Taylor Swift was out and about in LA yesterday. At one point, she was riding shotgun with Calvin Karris behind the wheel, and at another point, she was wandering around Hollywood with Selena Gomez. While Tay-Tay was with Calvin, they ended up having a meal with “new couple” Gigi Hadid and Joe Jonas. Remember when Tay-Tay dated Joe and he dated he over the phone? I guess time healed that particular wound. But Taylor was still looking “glum” through much of her Tuesday outings. I wonder why?
Well, here’s the conspiracy theory: take a close look at the t-shirt Taylor is wearing in these photos. “This is My Fight Song.” Interesting, especially because the last time Taylor released a new single and music video, it was the absolutely embarrassing “Bad Blood,” which is like “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” about a woman. It was a blatant attempt by Swifty to “Mean Girl” Katy Perry, part of their long-standing feud. Only Katy Perry has friends too. Friends like… Madonna. And Rita Ora. And Beyonce. And Nicki Minaj. And Miley Cyrus too. Madonna is about to release her video for “Bitch I’m Madonna” and Madge assembled her own girl-power group to take down the Swiftlunatics and their Cat Queen. The full video allegedly comes out at some point today, but for now, you can see a short Instagram clip here.
So is Swift worried? Is Tay-Tay’s new breakup anthem going to be about Madonna?

Something about seeing Prince Harry and Michelle Obama together (again!) gave me flutters. It’s not that I think Harry has a crush on the First Lady or anything, but it feels like they belong together in some way. Harry is arguably the most popular member of the royal family, and Michelle is arguably the most popular member of the first family. So of course Michelle had to stop by Kensington Palace on Tuesday morning to have tea with Harry. Michelle brought Sasha, Malia and Marian Robinson (Michelle’s mom) to the tea as well. Do you think Sasha and Malia have little crushes on Harry too?
The First Lady came to London for a two-day trip to launch the Let Girls Learn initiative, which helps fund girls’ education in developing nations, nations that have historically deprioritized education for girls and women. You can read more about the initiative here. Harry and Michelle spoke about the initiative as well as their ongoing work with wounded warriors and with military families. A palace spokeperson said: “Prince Harry was interested to hear from the First Lady about the Let Girls Learn initiative to further adolescent girls’ education around the world, which is the focus of her visit to the United Kingdom.” The spokesperson also said Harry was “very pleased” to host Michelle, Sasha and Malia for tea. Ten bucks says that Michelle laid some mom-guilt on Harry about finding a nice girlfriend.
On a superficial note – because I know people actually do care about this and because we haven’t covered Michelle’s fashion in a while – Michelle’s paisley dress was Mary Katrantzou Pre-Fall 2015. People seem to love it! I think it’s okay – I don’t really get Michelle’s affection for fuller skirts. If I had her amazing body, I would be wearing pencil skirts all the time.

This is a photo of Amber Rose hosting in Vegas on Memorial Day weekend. She covered her eyebrows in white powder, and people thought she looked so different.
Amber is promoting her new tongue-in-cheek guide to life, How to Be a Bad Bitch. The cover looks very Harlequin-y and NSFW, but you can see it here. Amber had a chat with Cosmo about her burgeoning bitchdom. She talks about a turning point when she stopped caring so much what people thought. I suspect Amber’s talking about when she started calling out Tyga for dating underage Kylie Jenner. Amber spoke from experience after being exploited at Kylie’s age. She was also taking a stand against her ex, Kanye West, who completely approves of the Tyga-Kylie coupling. Kanye retaliated by saying he needed several showers after dating Amber, who won the argument with class because Kanye slut-shamed her out of bitterness.
Amber and Kanye avoided each other last weekend at a pool party. Now Amber is talking to Cosmo about how she’s stronger these days. She’s no longer subservient to a certain someone. Amber’s also discovered her feminist edge:
Her popularity after the Kanye feud: “I went from 1.2 million [Instagram followers] to 5.5 million in a couple months. I think the turning point was when I just stopped giving a f*** about what people say. One day, I just woke up and I was like, ‘You know what? I can’t sit around and stress anymore about the Internet and what people say about me. I just gotta do me.’”
She understands feminism now: “I was always about girl power, but I didn’t quite get it because I did always feel like I had to be completely submissive to a man. I was always very unhappy doing that. I think I needed time to grow up. You get to a certain point in your life where you really find out who you are, and sometimes that happens when you’re 25, but for me, it was 31. I didn’t quite know that before. I guess social media did help create the feminist monster that I’ve become.”
She started stripping at 15: “I was very, very young. I did it and I was like, ‘Oh, hell no, I cannot do this.’ I was a kid. I think I was still a virgin at the time. Being onstage with my boobs out, it was like, ‘Oh my god, this is not for me.’” By 18, though, she had gotten more comfortable with herself and stripped until she was 25. “That was the best time of my life! Oh my god, I had so much fun. I really did. All the girls were really cool. I was young, beautiful, I was onstage, I wasn’t really ashamed of my body. I made lifelong friends.”
She gets up at 6:30 am & spends all her time with Bash: “I don’t even want to have sex. I really don’t! I’m just so focused on my son and my work and everything that I’m trying to do. I just don’t even wanna be bothered.”
[From Cosmo]
Amber also talks about sort of dating Machine Gun Kelly, but she hopes to get back with Wiz Khalifa before their divorce is final. That part of the discussion is sketchy, but I like what she says about feminism. So many women honestly don’t know what the word means. I’m glad Amber educated herself and can now speak up. Yes, she was totally talking about Kanye when she talked about having to be subservient.

Out of all the supporting cast for the Twilight movies, Ashley Greene falls somewhere in the “mildly inoffensive” area – she’s nowhere near as “boss” as Anna Kendrick but Ashley has not reached Full Kellan Lutz yet. Her claim to fame is still the Twilight franchise but I could conceivably see her finding some kind of success on a TV show or as in a supporting role in an action franchise. Ashley covers the new issue of Health Magazine and it turned out to be a pretty decent profile. She’s not really promoting any project, so she just talks about diets, body image and how she loves Cheez-Its, even though Cheez-Its go against her everything she stands for. That should make her welcome around here! Some highlights:
The pressure to look a certain way: “Yeah, there’s always going to be pressure [in Hollywood]. Anyone who doesn’t feel pressure is a really good liar. You’re always going to be too skinny or too fat or too muscular, and I’ve gotten every single one of those.”
She’s never going to please everyone: “Yeah, and listen, everyone has a different perception of what they think perfect is, and you’re never gonna be able to please everyone. It’s so tough, but once you come to terms with that, it’s a little easier to deal with. When I started and got Twilight, I think I was 20, and I was more impressionable. Now I’m 28, and if people are unhappy with the way I look, then they can be unhappy. But I feel strong and healthy and happy. Some people, like Gisele Bündchen, have crazy genes, and that’s just what she looks like. But most of us are not 5’11? and don’t look like that naturally.”
Crazy diets: “I lasted a day on that cayenne pepper diet. It gave me a headache and I was really grumpy. It was like, ‘This cannot be healthy.’ I’ve done juicing and then quickly realized that I couldn’t just do juices if I was gonna continue to work out the way I do. Right now, I feel the strongest I’ve ever been.”
Cheez-Its: “I like Cheez-Its a lot, which goes against everything I stand for. I like sodium so much, but that’s difficult when you’re on-screen because it makes you retain water. At the end of the day, you have to allow yourself those things, as long as they’re not a staple. You don’t want to be the girl who’s looking at the back label of everything!”
She thinks about starting a family: “No more than three [kids]. Probably two. I’m the opposite of my mom — she had us really young, and now she and my dad are able to have fun. I want to get married, enjoy that, and then when I’m ready to completely give myself to my kids, I will. But I’m a little too selfish still.”
She’s going to concentrate on acting: “At this point, I care more about what people are saying about my acting ability than what I look like. You can have an amazing performance and a great role, but the second you don’t get the next one, the feelings of rejection and not being good enough kind of come back to you. Thankfully, I have a good support system. But the struggle is real.”
She’s not into sycophants: “I feel lucky to have my family, and friends who will call me on my s—t. To hear yes all the time is just not healthy…. Every single day, no matter how successful you are, there’s always gonna be failure.”
[From E! News and People]
Is she deep as a puddle? Yes. But it’s not a dangerous superficiality, in my opinion. Most actresses are self-involved and they focus too much on their appearance across the board. And Ashley does say the right things about self-acceptance and learning that she can’t do those dangerous and stupid diets. As for the love for Cheez-Its, “which goes against everything I stand for” – LOL. I need to start describing food that way. I love McNuggets, which goes against everything I stand for. I love Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, which goes against everything I stand for.

Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa have been married for 19 years, and they have three kids together. They must be doing something correctly as a couple. As far as parenting goes, no one really knows how successful they are at it until the kids grow up. Kelly previously told Wendy Williams that she’s a strict parent. Of her daughter, Kelly said, “I don’t think she likes me, but I don’t care. I’m like, ‘I’m not your friend. I’m your mom.’ I don’t care who you are or what you do, if you’re a mom, you’re a mom.” Mark feels similiarly. He wrote an essay for Men’s Health in honor of Father’s Day. He talks about his own father’s former strictness, which has fallen away in favor of spoiling the grandkids. Isn’t that how it always works? Mark says he and Kelly keep the guard up at home:
For better or worse, you always end up sounding like your dad. You never think it’s going to happen–you’ll be different, you tell yourself–but when the time comes and you become a parent, it just happens.
You say things to your kids and you think, “Wow. I totally morphed into my father. How did that happen?”
The funny thing is, my kids don’t notice it. Why would they? My parents are grandparents now, and they’re totally different. My father spoils my kids, and they absolutely adore him for it.
When you’re a father, your main concern is whether your kids are being polite or doing well in school. When you’re constantly hoping they’re not out there getting murdered or getting caught up in drugs, you can really lose sight of the fun part of parenting. My parents trust that Kelly and I are taking care of all that, so they can just swoop in and have the fun.
For me, it’s hilarious. When my dad is doing his grandfather stuff, he’s so laid back and mellow. Once he’s gone, I look at my son and tell him, “That guy was like Pancho Villa and Saddam Hussein wrapped into one. That guy was a tyrant! He was so strict. You couldn’t get away with anything.”
These days, my dad and I are good friends. We talk all the time and have great conversations. I can’t afford to be like that with my kids at this point. Being friends with my kids just isn’t in the cards. I have to be like my dad was with me.
[From Men’s Health]
Mark goes on to talk about how “ninety percent of success in this world is just showing up,” according to his own dad. He applies that to his family life and always shows up to his kids’ functions because “that’s what it means to become a better man.” I’d go even further and say that’s what it means to be a better person. Mark’s writing for a men’s magazine, so he’s not directly addressing women, but I agree with this essay. It’s so easy to try and be friends with your child, but there’s gotta be some parental perspective there too.

Late last week, E! News reported that Nick Jonas and Olivia Culpo, his girlfriend of almost two years, had either split or were going through a rough patch. But E!’s sources sort of dismissed the split speculation as soon as they brought it up. Now Us Weekly is saying that the split really happened. Olivia and the Cute Jonas Brother are over! NOOO!! True story: I kind of loved them together. Seriously, it wasn’t even an “ironic” hipster affection. I genuinely thought Olivia and Nick were adorable together. And now they are no more!
No longer his Lovebug. Nick Jonas and his girlfriend of nearly two years, Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, have split, sources confirm to Us Weekly. Rumors of trouble in paradise first circulated last week, after the couple hit NYC for work reasons, but stayed in separate hotels. One source tells Us that the two didn’t even see each other during their time in the Big Apple.
A Jonas pal tells Us that the two are done — for now. However, the source adds that the photogenic pair aren’t sure whether the split will last. An insider close to Culpo says the relationship has been rocky for a bit. This past Sunday, June 14, the former beauty queen shared a cryptic tweet, possibly hinting at her relationship woes. “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did,” she wrote, citing Maya Angelou. “But people will never forget how you made them feel.”
Another source hints that Jonas’ busy travel schedule was, in part, to blame. Just last week, Jonas appeared on Good Morning America, where the pop singer said long-distance was “always tough,” but “it’s all good.” Jonas elaborated: “We’re both busy and young and enjoying life. It’s going well… For right now, we’re taking it one step at a time.” (Entertainment Tonight, which first broke the news, reported that the problems traced back to the Billboard Music Awards last month.)
During the couple’s happier days, 22-year-old Jonas memorably penned his smash single, “Jealous,” specifically for Culpo; she later starred in his music video. “We went out one night and this guy was looking at her for a little too long,” Jonas told Wendy Williams last November. “It was uncomfortable. I’m not a jealous person and this was an experience that I was one or two drinks in. I really got into it and then I decided to let me just process this a different way and go into the studio and write this song.”
[From Us Weekly]
“Jealous” is a great pop song. If Olivia was his muse, then I’m worried about his next album. And am I wrong to think that he was more into her than she was into him? That’s just the vibe I get. I remember earlier this year when Nick sang “Jealous” at the Miss Universe pageant and Olivia thought he was going to propose to her and Nick later said, “Her face was in full panic. She thought I was going to propose on national TV in front of one billion people.” Yeah – it just sounded like he was very much in love and she was more like, “This is fun for now.”

Pregnant in Heels star Rosie Pope is partnering with Stride Rite. Admitting she is “blown away by how on trend the Stride Rite collection has become,” the author, designer and mom-of-four, 35, says that kids “shoes have to feel good” and “my kids have to love them.”
Rosie opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about her four children – sons J.R., 6, and Wells, 4, and daughters Vivienne, 3, and Bridgette, 15 months – the top qualities she looks for in a good kids shoe, the possibility of adding to their big brood, and their upcoming summer vacation and Father’s Day plans.
CBS: Congratulations on partnering up with Stride Rite. What made you team up with Stride Rite? What do you love about their products?
RP: “First and foremost, I am a mom and with 4 kids and I have become increasingly aware the challenge footwear plays in our day-to-day lives. Let’s face it, they need shoes that are good for their feet and make playing easy and safe regardless of what else is going on that day.
I was struck by the authenticity of the Stride Rite team. I’ve loved meeting their designers who are parents also, trying to solve problems for little feet just the way a parent would – with complete love and attention.
I have to add though, as a designer, I was not only surprised but blown away by how on trend the SR collection has become. I’m a realist. Shoes have to feel good, be good for their feet, my kids have to love them, and I have to like them too. So, I appreciate that real moms and dads are behind these shoes so I can check all of these boxes.
Check out my Stride Rite top picks here.”
CBS: What are the top qualities you look for in a good kids shoe?
RP: “I’m going to be honest — they have to look cute. I know it might sounds awful, but it’s true. Just as important, they have to be comfortable for my little ones’ feet. I can’t bare the thought of them getting blisters or not being able to play properly. Also, easy on and off and washability are big for me as well as versatility.”
[Stride Rite’s Made 2 Play line is washable!]
CBS: How are your kids doing these days? Are the girls best friends, and the boys best friends?
RP: “I like to think so. They do have their passionate moments in both directions, but most of the time it is very peaceful and I can’t tell you the joy I get out of seeing them play together. It’s the magic in life.”
CBS: Do you have any upcoming Father’s Day plans? If so, please share? How about any upcoming summer vacation plans?
RP: “We are heading down south, where my husband was born, and spending the summer as southern ladies and gentlemen [laughs]. I am really hoping the kids come back with an accent.
As for Father’s Day, the kids and I have decided to write a ‘Dear Dad’ letter, telling him all the ways we love him. Sometimes I think we forget to tell dads just how amazing they can be and how much we appreciate them. They may be bashful, but I think they like the compliments.”
CBS: Any plans to add to your big brood? Or are you feeling your family is complete?
RP: “Last time I checked, my husband said he was really really tired — and by tired, I mean tired of getting up in the middle of the night [laughs]. But, we will see.”
CBS: How are things going with your maternity designs? What’s up next?
RP: “Brilliant! You can find us on Nordstrom.com, ShopBop.com as well as RosiePope.com. And Rosie Pope Baby is available nationwide in Buy Buy Baby, Lord and Taylor, Macys.com and many more.
I am also launching nursing and baby shoes later in the year as well, and there is more to come next year. And for those that miss me on TV, they should check out my YouTube channel and Conversations with Rosie Pope. It’s so fun to be able to package my honest and real advice in funny little segments – and parents to be able to enjoy watching as well as learn from.”
