Ooooh, look how pretty she is! Lorde covers the July issue of Vogue Australia – this is her first-ever Vogue cover and it’s really cool. Lorde is only 18 years old and her style has been called “goth prom” and “weird.” Whenever I see her, she just reminds me of that sort of half-goth, half-grunge style that was wildly popular in the ‘90s. Lots of black, lots of flannel, combat boots and long, crazy, wild hair. What I like about this Vogue Australia editorial is that it looks authentic to Lorde – she’s transitioning into a more mature style while still keeping it comfortable and goth-prom. She tweeted one of these photos with the message: “feeling like an eccentric old-money 70s californian in givenchy for @vogueaustralia.” Ha. Here are some highlights from the interview:
Her journey: “It’s crazy going from living in a country that feels kind of small—and I’d never traveled, really—then coming to L.A. or New York for the first time, and meeting all these people outside your group of friends from high school. The world has expanded for me in this incredible way. It’s cool, and I’m very lucky that I get to surround myself with creative people who are clever and good at what they do.”
Her mother, Sonja. “I still forget to eat dinner or forget to do my laundry, so she keeps me moving.”
She loves living in New Zealand: “It is easier to have a normal life back home. I think everyone knows that they’re going to see me around, that I’m going to be buying gum from a gas station or whatever. The shine rubs off when you’re like: ‘Oh yeah, my friend met her in the supermarket the other day.’ I think people are much more chill about it. Yeah, people are good there, respectful. I love living in New Zealand.”
Her childhood: “I went to a lot of David Lynch films; I read a lot of strange books; I loved to go to the museum all day. I was that kid. I liked to hang out with people older than me; I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. Writing and singing were just a hobby.”
Offering her EP, The Love Club, for free: “I just thought people my age would appreciate it. I wanted to put the EP up for free because being a teenager and not having a credit card—I mean, who has a credit card at 16?!”
Her debut album, Pure Heroine, selling millions: “You also realize how seriously people are taking what you’re doing and how they’re savoring every word and living inside the songs.”
Her style evolution: “As I get older and a little bit more comfortable in myself, I’m like: ‘Yeah, I will wear that really pretty, feminine outfit, and I’ll feel strong in that as well. But I do love a perfect pair of pants, the perfect collared shirt, and I wear sneakers, heavy shoes. I like Acne, I like Céline, and often I’ll buy a pair of men’s pants or whatever. I don’t discriminate in that way.”
Attending the Met Gala: “That was crazy. I’ve definitely never been to anything quite on that scale. I wanted to put all the cutlery and the plates in my handbag and leave them because they were very beautiful!”
[From Style.com]
I can’t even imagine what it’s like being from such a beautiful country like New Zealand. Yeah, no wonder she doesn’t want to leave and no wonder she always returns home. “Home” is like a vacation destination. Lorde seems so grounded and I hope she stays this way. I hope Taylor Swift doesn’t drag her into stupid Mean Girl crap, you know? Taylor is 25 years old going on 13, whereas Lorde is like a 40-year-old stuck in an 18-year-old’s body. I worry about their friendship.

Miley Cyrus says many things that should be taken seriously, but it’s hard to take Miley seriously because she’s always flashing her girls. See, I shouldn’t say that and feel bad for saying that. Miley has driven people to that point. She just posed naked with a pig and did naked backbends for Paper magazine. Miley was promoting Happy Hippie foundation, which supports LGBT youth, but her message was lost in her “shocking” nudity. The Paper interview was supposed to be relatively serious. Miley spoke about how, at the age of 14, she came out to her mother as bisexual. Miley said, “I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that’s legal, I’m down with.” What everyone noticed was Miley’s naked backbends.
Miley has a new interview with Time where she talks about gender stereotypes. She rambles a lot because she’s Miley. She doesn’t identify as a girl or boy but as “gender fluid.” Actually, she doesn’t even like that term but says it’s the closest she can come to fitting a label:
She’s “gender fluid”: “I’m just equal. I’m just even. It has nothing to do with any parts of me or how I dress or how I look. It’s literally just how I feel. People try to make everyone something. You can just be whatever you want to be.”
Miley on gender stereotypes: With guys, Cyrus says, there was an “overly macho energy” that she didn’t like. “That made me feel like I had to be a femme-bot, which I’m not. And then when I was with a girl, I felt like, ‘Oh sh*t, she’s going to need someone to protect her, so I’m going to need to have this macho energy.’ And that didn’t feel right either” Cyrus says she sat in a restaurant with her male date last Valentine’s Day and started crying, looking at the older heterosexual couples around her. “All the women in the restaurant were with these older, fat men that had just let themselves go. They were just being drunk b*stards. And then the women were sitting there, trying so hard just to look good. And they’re ignoring them the whole time. And I thought, ‘I’m not living like this. If I end up in a straight relationship, that’s fine — but I’m not going to be with f***ing slob guys who are watching p*rn, making all their girls feel ugly.”
She prefers drag shows to award shows: “Beyonce would never be down in the front row cheering on Katy Perry.”
On soul mates: “F***ing is easy. You can find someone to f*** in five seconds. We want to find someone we can talk to. And be ourselves with. That’s fairly slim pickings.”
[From Time]
Again, Miley is promoting her Happy Hippie foundation with this feature. She means well, but the message gets lost in her rambling words and desire to sound outrageous. When discussing gender stereotypes, Miley fell into a weird story about crying at a restaurant because straight men “just let themselves go” and ignore their women. She’s guilty of drawing her own stereotypes too.

Taylor Swift put together a video featuring all of her friends for Bad Blood. And you know the song is supposedly about Katy Perry. Now Madonna is …well…
Kinda doing the same…
WITH Katy Perry.
Here’s what she posted on Instagram:
This interview was actually published last week, but it’s new to me and I wanted to talk about it. I also wanted us to talk a little more about Kelly Rutherford’s bizarre interview with The Daily Beast, which was mentioned in our post yesterday about her latest court move. Here’s what Kelly told The NY Daily News’ Confidenti@l about her custody battle. She is seriously lacking in self awareness.
Kelly Rutherford… tells Confidntia@l why she turned to the media for help throughout this “crazy” ordeal.
“Well, in all honesty, I’ve been forced to do that,” she tells us at the Children’s Justice Campaign event in NYC.
“I’ve had no other choice. I don’t know how people do it that don’t have that. The only thing I’ve had is that on my side, which is a very scary thing I think for most parents to realize,” she continues on Hollywood turning positive awareness to her case.
“I think by my coming out and speaking openly about it – and this has happened in a lot of celebrities where they don’t come out and speak about it because it’s your personal life and it’s not fun to talk about. ”
“I’d much rather have my life in a different place,” she admits.
“But the bottom line is, you know, people need to realize that this is going on. I mean this is happening to everyone because people get divorced for many reasons. It doesn’t even matter what the reason is, as long as the kids are protected and they are put first. “
[From The NY Daily News]
If Kelly didn’t go to the press, if she didn’t try to smear her ex from the start, and maybe if she didn’t continue to bring this up at every turn (even going so far as to suggest that someone should kidnap her children, by some interpretations) I’m certain she would have another outcome. Maybe Kelly wouldn’t have her kids with her all year, but she’d at least have them this summer already. This is like the classic fable of the sun and the wind trying to get a man’s coat off. Once you start fighting with your ex in a custody or divorce battle it’s a zero sum game. Kelly never quite seemed to learn that despite how poorly it’s turned out for her.
Also, in Kelly’s Daily Beast interview she portrayed the origin of her relationship with Daniel Giersch as some kind of nefarious plot in which he schemed to land her for her fame and money. She claimed that Daniel saw her at a cafe where she was a regular and that a waitress pressured her to contact him.
There was a waitress there who pressured me for weeks to go out with this man that she knew. I just remember she had a foreign accent and she was married to a Middle Eastern guy and her kids were in Kuwait. I think her name was Carla. She said this German man had spotted me at the restaurant and wanted to go out with me. She said he was super cute. She handed me his business card and said how great he was and how I ought to call him because he really wanted to go out with me.
[From The Daily Beast]
Kelly said that Daniel seemed like a Playboy but that she ignored her instincts, essentially, and got caught up in a whirlwind romance and ended up pregnant. It sounds like Daniel spotted her and really wanted to get to know her. I mean, check out how alike they look. They’re like two peas in a pod. Of course he was attracted to her. This sounds like a romantic story to me.

First of all, I want to give Metro UK a hug for writing this headline: “Benedict Cumberbatch shows off his post-baby body, gets back to work after two days off.” Amazing, right? We should start doing that – referring to new fathers as having a “post-baby body.” Anyway, as you’ve probably guessed, we’re talking about the Cumberbaby and the Cumberbaby’s father. On Saturday, media outlets got the confirmation that Benedict and Sophie Hunter had welcomed a bouncing baby otter boy. There was no confirmation as to when Sophie gave birth, and I feel pretty confident saying that she did not give birth on Friday or Saturday. I think Bendy and Sophie waited days (possibly even a week or two) to announce the birth. That’s just my theory. So is it a big deal that Benedict barely took any paternity leave?
Benedict Cumberbatch has returned to work just days after his wife Sophie Hunter gave birth to their ‘beautiful son’. Cumberbatch has begun rehearsing for his role as Hamlet in a new production at the Barbican in London. The show will run from August to October.
It will be the Oscar-nominated actor’s first stage role since Frankenstein at the National Theatre in 2011. The Sherlock star tied the knot with Hunter in a private ceremony in February.
The arrival of the couple’s first child was announced on Saturday. A spokesperson told People.com: ‘Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son. We would kindly ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during these next few precious weeks.’
[From Metro]
Benedict returned to work just days after the announcement, it still isn’t clear if he actually got a solid week to bond with the baby before a grueling rehearsal schedule began. I totally respect men who take paternity leave, even if their jobs are high-profile and they get mountains of abuse for it – remember when Mets player Daniel Murphy was blasted last year for missing the first two games of the season? He handled it really well and said that he wanted to be there for his wife. I guess Sophie can handle everything well enough without Benedict though. Sigh…

Prince Carl Philip wore his military uniform at his wedding, which led to some confusion (for me). I was sure that Prince Carl Philip was an active-member of the Swedish Navy, so I was confused by the repeated descriptions of the prince as a “race-car driver.” It just seems like some sites should have led with “he’s been in the Swedish Navy for 14 years and he’s achieved the rank of major.” But I guess he gets a lot of time off from the Navy (does he?!?) and so he’s developed a fondness for racing cars, so much so that it’s his “job” now (is it?!). Not only that, but Carl Philip and his new bride are going to have a very short honeymoon just because Carl wants to race. Oh, I would be SO mad.
After a modern fairy-tale wedding, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have set off for their honeymoon! But the newlyweds, who tied the knot in a gorgeous ceremony at the Swedish palace’s royal chapel in Stockholm on Saturday, have planned a short and sweet getaway due to the prince’s busy racing schedule.
“The honeymoon will last just 12 days – from the 13th to the 25th – when Carl Philip will drive a race,” Johanna Lejon, royals reporter at Svensk Damtidning, tells PEOPLE. The 36-year-old prince has raced in the Scandinavia Touring Car Championship since 2013, and he will buckle up for a twilight event at Mantorp Park in Sweden on June 25. The third race of the season will be held over one day with qualifying rounds in the morning and races in the evening, according to the official event calendar.
The prince crashed during the first race of the season last month when he collided with his racing rival, Erik Johnsson, after just four laps. He wasn’t hurt in the accident, but he was forced to retire from the race. He redeemed himself on the racetrack later in the month. Royal fans should be on the lookout for Princess Sofia, 30, cheering from the sidelines. The newly minted royal has been a fixture at the prince’s races.
[From People]
I live in a very NASCAR-saturated area so I’m not even going to pretend that racing cars is a hobby only for the very rich. It is not, especially here in America, although in Europe, racing does seem to be more “elite”. I have never been fascinated by race car driving or watching people race, so to me it just seems like… jeez, don’t you have better things to do with your time? And you’re going to cut short your honeymoon just to race? Ugh.

Speaking of Justin Bieber…
He’s in Miami with friends, including Hailey Baldwin who might be more than his friend. Everyone’s been wondering whether or not they’ve crossed that line. As Mark Wahlberg would say. He knows all about the f-cking line.
