As you know, a woman died this February in a multi-car accident in which Caitlyn Jenner was involved. The extent of Caitlyn’s role in the accident is somewhat unknown as reports vary. she has not been charged criminally yet, and it’s not expected she will be, but she has been named in two different civil suits. Caitlyn nee Bruce Jenner has been sued twice for the crash, by the family of the deceased and a person in a second car who was injured. Both lawsuits are now pending.
Caitlyn’s historical transition has been dominating the news lately, but The Daily Beast wants us to remember the victim of the car crash for which Caitlyn may or may not have been responsible. (I tend to think people are jumping to conclusions in blaming Caitlyn. A car stopped short, a second car stopped to avoid rear-ending the first car, and then Caitlyn rear ended the second car, causing it careen into traffic and get hit by an SUV, killing the driver. Caitlyn was towing an ATV, limiting her ability to stop. She may or may not have been following too close. She was smoking at the time. More on the accident here.)
The Daily Beast’s Michael Daly lets us know that the victim of that accident, Kim Howe, 69, was a charitable, well-liked lady who lost her husband to a heart attack 12 years prior to her death. In doing so, Daly throws a lot of shade on Caitlyn’s character despite the fact that she hasn’t been found responsible for the accident. I’ll excerpt some relevant parts but please read the full article to get a better idea:
The official findings will be based on the facts as presented by reports from everybody who was involved in the investigation, from the sheriff’s office to the California Highway Patrol, as well as the medical people.
The conclusions will be the same regardless of whether it is Bruce or Caitlyn on the paperwork. The determining factors will be whether Jenner was driving too fast (perhaps) or following too close (some reports suggest yes) or texting (reportedly no) or intoxicated (also reportedly no)…
By outward appearances, Caitlyn seems to have already found herself not guilty. She pronounced the collision a great tragedy immediately after the incident but seemed to portray herself as blameless.
What was most remarkable about that Vanity Fair cover was not what you saw, but what you did not see.
Jenner certainly did not seem haunted by the demise of a fellow woman four years older than herself, who lived not far from the Kardashian girls in a gorgeous residence that already had been shadowed by a terrible loss a dozen years ago…
Just two days after the Howes closed on the place, and just as they were to embark on a European holiday, Robert suffered a fatal heart attack.
Kim moved in nonetheless along with her rescue pooch, Daisy.
“She lived there all those years by herself with the dog,” Pascucci says…
As has been reported by the New York Daily News, Howe had been active long before her widowhood in supporting the efforts of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine to find alternatives to experimentation on animals…
“She had strong feelings, strong beliefs, but a very quiet, soft-spoken person,” Barnard says.
“She wouldn’t in a million years have caused an accident,” he says.
He is horrified by the thought of her stopping for a car ahead of her and then suddenly being struck from behind and sent into oncoming traffic.
“Can you imagine how terrifying that would be?” he asks.
Maybe such imagining does torment the world-famous personage who was driving the car that triggered the horror.
Or maybe Jenner has been too busy of late imagining herself as the woman she knew herself to be.
But what kind of woman is she?
What kind of person?
The person we should all wish ourselves to be is a kindred spirit to the person who perished in that accident.
[From The Daily Beast]
No one said that Caitlyn is perfect, in fact she was an absentee father to her oldest children and definitely seems somewhat narcissistic. (That’s pretty much a side effect of having any kind of long term relationship with PMK.) As Daly mentions, no one found Caitlyn responsible for this accident, either. All we have are conflicting reports and there is no official conclusion yet. It’s also unlikely, according to TMZ, that she will be criminally prosecuted for this accident. So I do think it’s premature to blame her. (Although to be fair Daly did not do this, he just threw a lot of shade – masterfully I might add.) We can talk about Kim Howe’s charity work and her commitment to animal rights without denigrating Caitlyn Jenner. There is a lawsuit pending. While it would have been nice to hear remorse from Caitlyn about this accident, (whether or not she could have prevented it) she’s been advised by lawyers not to talk about it at all.
I do think that Caitlyn should have objected to the photos taken of her posing in her car, though. It probably never occurred to her, but it should have.
Here is Kim Howe:
The Hills alum Kristin Cavallari and her husband, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, open up their Nashville home for ELLE.com. The expectant mama chats about her upcoming book Balancing in Heels, family life with sons Camden, 2, and Jaxon, 1, and their baby on-the-way.
On moving away from L.A.: “I sort of have stepped out of the public eye and it’s actually been really refreshing. I was a little nervous at first, to be honest, just because I didn’t…It’s sort of always been ingrained in me that if you want to be in the entertainment business, you either have to be in L.A. or New York.”
On moving to Chicago: “When I married Jay, I officially moved to Chicago. I was a little scared. I didn’t really know exactly what I wanted to do with my career, but everything has sort of fallen into place with the shoes, especially, the jewelry, and now this book.”
On life in Nashville: “Cam is so happy that he’s here,” she says, and adds Nashville is the place they will call home full-time “if all goes according to plan. Jay hates Los Angeles. And Chicago’s just not home.”

Melissa McCarthy covers the new issue of People Magazine (I’ll probably cover the story tomorrow if gossip is still slow), but there’s a sidebar on the cover: “Jen Talks To People: Justin, Marriage & Her Secrets to Looking Younger.” It was the “Justin, Marriage” part that interested me, although I quickly realized that if Jennifer had some breaking news about her neverending engagement, she probably would have gotten the People cover all to herself. So what IS going on with Justin Theroux? He’s become The Largely Absent Eyebrow in Jen’s perfect LA life, even though she insists that they share everything (Aveeno, Living Proof, toothbrushes). Some highlights from People:
The best thing that’s happened to her in her 40s: “Justin. He’s the best thing this decade.”
Their coupled-up fashion: “[We] met a bit in the middle.” She fondly remembers the first time she met The Leftovers star while on the set of 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder in Hawaii. “He was wearing black, black, black and I started to sweat just looking at him.”
Her engagement ring: “I just think it’s so beautiful. I love it because he picked it, put it into a setting and it’s simple.”
Justin won’t have a problem fitting a wedding ring into his wardrobe: “He’s got a lot of hardware. He wears a chain. He has a gold chunky ring. When we get married he will be wearing his ring. It just won’t say Justin anymore,” she says of the ring he currently wears, adding that perhaps instead it will say Jen “on the inside…It will be good.”
[From People]
Does this interview seem… I don’t know? Sort of bittersweet? Jennifer has always sort of been the Miss Havisham of the tabloids and at times she’s willingly played into that image, but it feels like in real life she’s trying on wedding gowns and day-dreaming about Justin’s wedding band and the entire time Justin has been looking for the exit.
Oh, and I still hate her engagement ring. That is the cloudiest, most quartz-looking diamond ever. Is “quartziest” a word?

As Lainey mentioned yesterday, Johnny Depp is 52 and filming his 84th Pirates of the Caribbean movie in Australia. He’s also on a contrition tour, shaking hands and kissing babies so he doesn’t get in more trouble for smuggling his dogs into the country.
I wondered when we would find out the sex of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s second baby. By most accounts, Kim is more than three months along in her second pregnancy. She has said repeatedly that she is not expecting twins, although I wouldn’t put it past her to lie about that (but for now I choose to believe her). From what I remember of Kim’s first pregnancy, she never came out and said that she was expecting a girl, but it was widely speculated that North would in fact turn out to be a girl. I feel like the “rules” for telling people the sex of your second child are a little bit looser? Like, you can tell people earlier and it’s no big deal. What I’m saying is that I kind of believe that Us Weekly might have a legit source (Jonathan Cheban?) who told them that Kim and Kanye are expecting a BOY this time around.
Too bad the name Reign is already taken! Multiple sources confirm that Kim Kardashian and husband Kanye West are giving 2-year-old daughter North a little brother. “Kanye loves Nori more than anything, but to make his world complete he wanted a little boy, an heir,” says a source close to West. “He’s overjoyed!”
Kardashian is elated as well. “Kim always wanted two kids,” says a Kardashian pal. “A girl and a boy.”
Kardashian, 34, and West, 38, documented their struggle to conceive baby No. 2 on E!’s Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Over the past year, the fashionista underwent in vitro fertilization, consulted a cadre of doctors, and even talked to psychic John Edward.
Kim has said that she didn’t even mind her severe morning sickness. “I can barely get out of bed,” she continued. “But it’s so worth it. I don’t really care.”
Kardashian felt well enough to browse for boys’ baby clothes with West at New York City boutique Trico Field June 1. “Just like Nori,” says the West source, “this kid will be well-dressed.” Bring on the custom-made Balmain!
[From Us Weekly]
This is totally coming from a child-free person, but it seems to me like boys’ clothes are always going to be less exciting than girls’ clothes. While I don’t doubt that Baby Boy Kardashian-West will be wearing designer duds, there won’t be this rush from major designers to dress this baby like there was with North West. I mean, North got tons of designer swag from everybody. And who will send Easton West designer stuff? Ralph Lauren?
As for the names… if it is a boy, I’m no longer feeling Winter West. Easton West, sure. December West? Yes, I could see that too.

Reportedly, it’ll be blue booties for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
According to Us, the A-list couple are expecting a little brother for their nearly 2-year-old daughter North. “Kanye loves Nori more than anything, but to make his world complete he wanted a little boy, an heir,” a source tells the mag. “He’s overjoyed!”
And it sounds like the reality star, 34, is excited as well.
“Kim always wanted two kids,” says the source. “A girl and a boy.”
Kardashian and West, 38, struggled to conceive their son. Over the past year, the KUWTK star underwent in vitro fertilization, consulted several doctors, and even talked to psychic John Edward.
“Kim was really down about it,” the insider says of her inability to get pregnant. “And she was worried.”
Last night’s Los Angeles premiere of Jurassic World takes us right into this opening weekend. Chris Pratt walked the red carpet with Anna Faris, who wore a flirty, metallic Rubin Singer dress. This movie should make massive money, and Pratt has been everywhere. First, he re-addressed his claim of being “impotent“ when he was overweight. Pratt modified his statement: “I’m not sure I knew what ‘impotent’ meant when I said it. I had a lower sex drive, to be honest with you. Everything about my spirit was dull. I didn’t feel great, and I think people will relate to that.” Poor guy. He must have been embarrassed to figure out what he told the world.
Pratt covers Red Bulletin magazine (in the gallery) to talk about several topics. You can read the interview here. The only new information is stuff Pratt says about his old job as an amateur stripper. He calls himself a “cheap Magic Mike.” There’s also an interview with the Guardian that sparked some controversy. Pratt talks about his love of hunting again. He’s already admitted being pro-hunter and raved about how fun it is to shoot varmint. Here are more of his reasons for being a recreational hunter:
He digs this movie franchise: “I was a massive fan, it’s not just lipservice to promote the movie. It was a big part of my childhood: 13 years old, my first event movie, it was a big f***in’ deal to me as a kid.”
He reveres “the natural order: “I have a great deal of respect for the animals that I kill, and I feel remorse and all of the emotions that come with it. The thing inside me that drives me to go out and hunt is very animal. But the remorse, emotion and respect I feel, and the closeness to God that I feel when I’m out there, is my humanity. It’s an opportunity for me to explore what parts of me are animal and what parts of me are human.”
[From The Guardian]
The comment section at the Guardian wasn’t a happy affair fter the hunting statements. As a vegetarian, I don’t hunt and don’t understand Chris’ rationale. He says he always feels remorse but still intentionally shoots animals for recreation. Does that make sense? Don’t get me wrong — if people are hunting for food, that’s one thing. Pratt hunts for sport, for fun.
Here are more photos from the premiere. Bryce Dallas Howard looked stunning last night. She was wearing a navy-blue dress with backless detail. The color of the dress compliments her hair so well. Did you know Bryce is waging a public campaign to win the Captain Marvel role? Hmm.

Yesterday, I read a brief interview with one of In Touch Weekly’s editors in which the guy said that there was more stuff to come out about the Duggars, and that In Touch Weekly had been on the ground in Arkansas for a few months now and they were still digging up information. While nothing will probably beat In Touch’s exclusive reporting on Josh Duggar’s crimes, I’m interested in seeing how much worse it can get. In Touch Weekly has the Duggar situation on their cover again this week and it’s all about how the Duggars are under investigation AGAIN.
The Duggar family is under investigation again by the Arkansas Department of Human Services and police were called when the family refused to cooperate, In Touch magazine is reporting exclusively in its new issue that hits newsstands today.
A representative from the Washington County DHS called 911 on May 27 at around 11 a.m. asking for police assistance when DHS was not allowed to see the minor they were concerned about. In Touch, which broke the story of Josh Duggar’s sexual molestation scandal, has the full transcript of the emergency call in the new issue.
The new investigation comes as the family tries to save its TLC reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, which the network pulled off the air, while determining its fate. Jim Bob, Michelle and two of their daughters sat for interviews with Fox News, attempting to minimize the damage, but much of what they said was widely condemned as misinformation and not full disclosure.
The Duggars made no mention of the fact that they have been under investigation again, but In Touch discovered what they are hiding via another Freedom of Information Act request that produced the 911 call. After identifying himself as a Washington Country DHS employee and stating the Duggar family address, the caller tells the 911 operator, “We have an investigation and I guess they’re not being cooperative. We have to see the child to make sure the child is all right. So we just need police assistance.”
DHS records are not available to the public so it is unknown what prompted the investigation. Experts tell In Touch that an investigation can be triggered by a hotline complaint, even an anonymous one, if the trained operator determines the allegation is serious enough that it meets standards for child abuse maltreatment laws.
The Duggars were investigated by police in 2006 for Josh’s acts of molestation committed in 2002 and 2003. DHS then investigated the family in 2007, as In Touch first reported.
[From In Touch Weekly]
This is fascinating and horrible. This means the Arkansas Department of Human Services is still actively monitoring the Duggars – or at least one of the Duggar minors – and it means that the Duggars have refused to give DHS access, so that’s why the cops were called. When DHS investigates, cooperation is not optional. It’s good to point that out because the Duggars claimed in their Fox News interviews that they worked with DHS and everything was fine, like they should get extra credit for an entirely mandatory process. They also made it sound like the DHS thing was all over, but if DHS’s investigation/monitoring is still happening, that’s very interesting. It’s also good to point out that nothing in In Touch’s reporting has come from DHS – DHS investigations are seemingly not subject to FOIA requests, so that’s something else the Duggars have lied about.
People Magazine also ran a strangely sympathetic piece yesterday about how residents of Tonititown (the Duggars’ hometown) were feeling sorry for the family because of all the media interest. Like, those poor Duggars, they agreed to Fox News interviews, how terrible. And People just published an “exclusive” on how Jill and Jessa are coping, which just reads like the same Duggar talking points given to Megyn Kelly at Fox News. Jessa and Jill “feel violated” by the press (but oddly not their brother).
