Mama’s mini-me!
The stunning lookalike daughter of Uma Thurman, 16-year-old Maya Thurman-Hawke, rocked the red carpet at the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City on Monday (June 1). The teen looked beautiful in a floral Zac Posen gown featuring a high neckline, multicolored beading and ethereal sheer overlay.
The teen – whose father is actor Ethan Hawke – twirled on the red carpet, showcasing the beautiful sheer shirt. She attended the NYC event with the designer of her dress.
A few years ago, Hawke gushed about his oldest child.
“She’s super-talented,” Hawke said of Maya. “She writes her own music and we went and played eight of her songs. She’s only 13, so I don’t know if its going to be an interest she sustains over a lifetime, but I was happy to see her have this creative outlet.”
Uma and Ethan are also parents to 13-year-old son Levon. As well, Uma is mom to 2-year-old daughter Luna, and Ethan has daughters Clementine, 6, and Indiana, 3.

Legendary actress Goldie Hawn opens up in Porter‘s Summer Escape issue. Posing with grandsons Wilder, 7, and Bodhi, 5, the actress, 69, dishes on her 32-year relationship with Kurt Russell, her grown children, and the gender wage gap in Hollywood.
On the gender wage gap in Hollywood: “We have made some strides, there’s no question. The relationship between men and women is definitely changing, but when you think that we only got to vote how many years ago? We’re still dealing with these kinds of paradigms. If you look at racial issues—I’m reading Truman’s autobiography at the moment—they were dealing with the very same situations that we’re dealing with today. It’s human nature to create these problems. Women are trying to find their own power inside relationships, too. You have to ask yourself, is there too much power? Do I hold too much power? Do I have more money than the other person?”
On how her daughter, Kate Hudson, deals with gender inequality in Hollywood: “I think that Katie deals with that on her level. She’s not me. She sees things her way, although we agree on a lot of things.”
On being mindful: “The things we do early in life aren’t always what we will do later. You just keep growing, embracing change, being present with what is. We are the sum total of our life experiences—that’s what builds us; that’s who we become. If we don’t do any personal research or any personality and psychic excavation, we really aren’t growing—we’re only just existing. It is then that we become reactive. So we want to create more awareness in the classroom, more self-awareness and more awareness of others. We build empathy. We tell kids that they actually can help someone else. It gives them strength and purpose and connection with other humans.”
On aging: “Getting older is a fact of life. By living mindfully you understand that there are many transitions in life. You just go through them. But it’s wonderful to know you’re aging, because that means you’re still on the planet, right? It’s all about how you make it. It’s all in your mind.”
On the secret to her longterm relationship with Russell: “A lasting relationship isn’t about marriage. It’s about compatibility and communication. And you both need to want it to work. If one person does not want it to work, it isn’t going to work. Intention is the key. It’s also about not losing yourself in each other. Being together, two pillars holding up the house and the roof, and being different, not having to agree on everything, learning how to deal with not agreeing. Everything’s a choice.”

Taylor Swift, as we know, as we’ve seen, repeatedly, every day, everywhere, is friends with everyone. With one exception: Katy Perry. OK two. Katy Perry and John Mayer. But two of her friends, Lorde and Ellie Goulding were partying recently with Katy Perry. The evidence is on Instagram.
I still think it’s adorable to see Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham having such a fun work-friendship. I never would have put them together, but out of the cast of Spy, it seems like Melissa and Jason had the most fun together. These are photos from last night’s NYC premiere of Spy. I’m including photos of Jason, Melissa, Rose Byrne and Jude Law.
Melissa looked especially pretty right? She wore a dress that she designed herself. I’ve had a problem with her style lately and that’s because she’s too covered up. I feel like that’s a default for so many plus-sized women and it’s unfair. Granted, some women (of all sizes) don’t want to show all of their bits and pieces, but it’s not either/or. Plus-sized women shouldn’t have to choose between wearing what are basically burqas versus showing too much skin. Anyway, Melissa talked a bit about her clothing line last night:
“I just don’t believe in a uniform,” the actress, 44, told PEOPLE on the red carpet. “I think if people have it and they love it, great, but I think people get into a rut and I’ve always been someone who gets a kick out of dressing.”
McCarthy’s personal style depends on her mood on any given day, but she’s drawn to “classic things that can morph,” she said. “I like vintage, I can never pick one style. I like a little blouse that looks great with a pencil skirt but then the next day I can wear it with ripped jeans and boots.” It’s that chameleon-like style that she’s applying to her own designs: “I’m trying to give women a closet that gives them some variety,” McCarthy said.
That includes some playful items that hold special meaning; when asked what her favorite piece in the collection is, the actress said, “There’s a sweater with a cat drawn on it that’s saying ‘Meow,’ and my daughter drew it and it just kind of breaks my heart.” The proud mom of two girls (with husband Ben Falcone) got a little emotional as she described it. “I’m such a dorky mom, I get choked up about the dumbest things. Not that that’s dumb. It’s just that she’s very creative, she loves to draw,” McCarthy told PEOPLE, while holding back tears.
“I want women to get dressed every day and feel good about themselves. I don’t care what it is, if it’s dyeing your hair blue, if it’s a sweater, whatever you want to do, if it makes you feel good and empowered, I stand behind it 100 percent,” McCarthy told PEOPLE. “And if I can be a little tiny block on that wall, I’d be proud of that.”
[From People]
Well, I hope Melissa’s clothing line is a success. The dress she wore last night was pretty enough and hey, maybe Melissa will really kill it as a designer.
Oh, and if she’s looking smaller in these photos, that’s because she’s apparently lost about 50 pounds in the past year. Good for you, girl!

I had the chance to read the full Vanity Fair cover story in which we get to meet Caitlyn Jenner and hear her story. Author Buzz Bissinger did a masterful job. He didn’t gloss over the difficult or uncomfortable parts of Jenner’s past (namely her poor relationship with her four oldest children) and wrote a profile that was balanced, realistic and yet understanding toward Caitlyn and the transgender community. It’s a great read and I highly recommend it. I’m excerpting a couple of main points below, but there’s so much more in the article to discuss. Please note that the article alternates between using male and female pronouns depending on whether they’re referring to Bruce’s past or Caitlyn’s future. I do the same in the conclusion below.
Cailtyn admits that Bruce told lies
Bruce Jenner, she said, was “always telling lies.” Caitlyn Jenner, she said, “doesn’t have any lies.” Bruce Jenner caused hurt to four children who loved and idolized him before he gave his love and total attention to another family. Caitlyn Jenner has the possibility to make it right and close the fissure as much as she can. “I have high hopes that Caitlyn is a better person than Bruce,” said his oldest son, Burt, now 36. “I’m very much looking forward to that.”
Caitlyn’s four children from her first two marriages won’t do the docuseries
The last thing the Jenner kids want to do is reverse the rebuilding of the relationship. But despite numerous entreaties from their father as well as the head of E! programming, the Jenner children refused to participate, forgoing financial gain and exposure in the process. At first their decision did not seem to register with Caitlyn. She kept hoping they could be persuaded… when she realized the decision was final, she became increasingly frustrated and on one occasion hurled profanities. She told me she felt “terribly disappointed and terribly hurt”
Kris claims that Bruce didn’t tell her how serious the issue was
The issue of how much Bruce Jenner told Kris of his gender-identity issues is a matter of dispute: neither side wants to appear rancorous, but the two sides agree on virtually nothing. Breast growth as the result of hormones is irreversible. Jenner insists that he was a “good solid B cup” when he met Kris. She said it was comparable to a “little bit of a man boob situation” but that there was “no B cup going on…
“When I met Bruce, he told me that he had done hormones back in the early 90s. So, what he was telling me happened a decade earlier, and he never really explained it… there wasn’t a gender issue… Somebody mentioned that [he] at one point in his life liked too dress up.”
Jenner is emphatic that he told Kris he had taken hormones in the late 1980s up untl the year they met, and was equally emphatic in saying there were other side effects besides breast growth. He finds it implausible for her to suggest she was not aware of his gender struggle. But he does concede that “probably a mistake I made was maybe not having her understand – not the severity of it but that this is a condition you cannot get away from. From this standpoint maybe I blew it a way a little bit, sort of ‘This is what I do.’” He said he did cross-dress in front of her. But ultimately, he said, she set down rules: he could cross-dress when he was traveling on his own but not at home.
Kris said he never cross-dressed in front of her, the only evidence “a few times I would see a suitcase or things lying around the house.” She also said she never set down any rules.
[From Vanity Fair, print edition, July, 2016]
The article also confirms that Kris had a role in separating Bruce from his oldest children during the early years of their marriage, noting that “The children maintain that Kris essentially turned on them.” After Bruce’s second wife, Linda Thompson (mother to Brandon and Brody), took him to court for child support, Kris wasn’t as willing to “integrate the families,” Caitlyn admits. Whatever Kris did, Bruce went along with it, so it’s not all on Kris. Bruce could have maintained relationships with the oldest children if that was a priority.
Caitlyn also claims that Kris treated her badly during their marriage, especially after KUWTK started airing. “A lot of times she wasn’t very nice… I got mistreated. She controlled the money.” Kris claims that Bruce was angry, withdrawn and passive aggressive. “He was miserable… All I was doing was working very hard for my family so that we could all have a wonderful future, and he was pissed off.” Kris also says that Bruce never told her anything about being transgender until their divorce was finalized. “It was like the most passive-aggressive thing I think I’ve ever experienced.”
As for what Kris knew and when, I buy that she wasn’t fully aware of Bruce’s gender identity issues. As we saw on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Bruce was cagey about telling his family what was going on and downplayed most everything. I do think Caitlyn is telling the truth about the fact that Kris set rules for when and where Bruce could cross dress. As Caitlyn states in the article, Bruce was “always telling lies” but Caitlyn “doesn’t have any lies.” It must be a relief for her to finally be honest with herself and the world.
Here are some more photos from the editorial by Annie Leibowitz, which is striking. Caitlyn has been compared to Jessica Lange, who has called the comparisons “wonderful.” I can see it.

Iggy Azalea’s had a week of ups and downs. She cancelled her arena tour and explained her thoughts to Seventeen: “Mentally, to be honest with you, I just feel I deserve a break. I’ve been going non-stop for the past two years, nearly every single day.” Iggy says it’s “very emotionally draining to be on all the time.” I’ll just leave that there, and onto the the happy stuff.
Iggy and Nick Young (of the LA Lakers, who calls himself Swaggy P) have been dating for about 18 months. They seem very sweet together in red carpet photos. There was a slight bump in the road when groupie rumors circulated, and Nick joked (?) about sleeping on the couch. I don’t think those stories were real. Iggy bought him a car a few weeks later. Nick also defended his lady when Snoop Dogg made fun of her for not wearing makeup.
Nick celebrated his 30th birthday last night, and he proposed during the party. That’s a pretty gutsy move, you know? If the girl says no, then you’ll be reminded of soul-crushing rejection every birthday thereafter. Luckily, Iggy said yes. Here’s a video clip of the celebratory moment.

The ring is, as Iggy’s most popular hit would say, very “fancy.” It suits her blingy public image. The ring reportedly cost $500,000. Us Weekly spoke with Jason Arasheben (Jason of Beverly Hills), who helped Nick design the ring. The center stone is an 8.15 Fancy Intense yellow diamond, which is surrounded by 2.28 carats of white diamonds. The setting is white gold, which surprises me. If you’re gonna go all out with massive diamonds and spend half a million, why not go another extra mile with platinum?
Iggy loves the ring and showed it off on Instagram. Congrats to the swaggy couple!
Happiest Day #Isaidyes
