This is what true happiness feels like. That moment when everything makes sense, there is no crime, there is no pain, there is no fear, there is only… Tilda Swinton. And Benedict Cumberbatch. Together. On screen. YES! Ever since Marvel announced that they would doing Doctor Strange, there has been a quiet conversation about who should be cast as “the Ancient One,” the person who mentored Doctor Strange in the Dark Arts. In the comic books, the Ancient One was a man (and Tibetan). In the film, Marvel is thinking outside the box and they’re in talks with Tilda Swinton. TILDA. As Bendy’s mentor. Please let this happen.

Tilda Swinton is on her way to the Marvel Universe. The actress is in negotiations to join Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange, being directed by Scott Derrickson. Strange is Marvel’s supernatural hero, a formerly cocky surgeon who loses the use of his hands, and while on a last ditch attempt to heal himself, discovers magic.

Strange’s mentor is a Tibetan mystic known as the Ancient One, who is training pupils to be the next sorcerer supreme. In the comics, the character has been a male, and Marvel Studios initially was searching for a male actor. But the studio rethought the role and has now made it female. If a deal makes, Swinton will play the Ancient One. Strange has a release date of Nov. 4, 2016. The movie is due to begin shooting November in the U.K. Kevin Feige is producing.

[From THR]

If Tilda is eventually cast – and let’s be honest, I really hope this deal goes through – I’m sure there will be significant and justified criticism of the white-washed cast. But a thought occurred to me just now, as I was writing: Marvel probably didn’t want to hire a Tibetan actor or an Asian actor-playing-Tibetan because they want all of their movies to play big in China. China probably would have banned this movie if they had a Tibetan actor or some kind of Tibetan-intensive storyline. I’m just saying, there could be bigger things at play here than a studio doing a default white-washing.

As for Tilda playing a character that goes by the Ancient One, a character that was originally supposed to be a dude? Awesome. She’s the only person I can see in the role now. TILDA & BENDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jennifer Love Hewitt

Jennifer Love Hewitt is currently 8 months pregnant with her second child. Hewitt and her husband of two years, Brian Hallisay, also have daughter Autumn James, 18 months. The last two times I’ve covered Hewitt I’ve mentioned this, but I don’t think she gets enough credit for it so I’ll say it again: as far as I can find, she’s never released a photo of her daughter Autumn. She didn’t give a baby photo to the press, she’s never instagrammed a photo of her daughter (although she does take selfies), and she hasn’t been caught out by the paps with her daughter except in a stroller where you can’t see the baby’s face. (There is one photo I found of her baby with an older lady, but it’s a telephoto pic taken on set and only one agency has it.) This is a somewhat incredible turnaround for Hewitt, who used to tell the press when she caught boyfriends cheating, when she wanted another boyfriend to propose and how, and when she had crushes on celebrities. Kaiser and I were talking about this, and my theory is that Hewitt married a very private guy. Kaiser reminded me that Hewitt’s mom sadly died in 2012 and that she’s changed quite a bit since then.

Anyway that’s relevant because Hewitt has this new interview with People in which she talks about her family. She’s very rarely talked about her daughter or given personal information about her, so while some of her quotes may be eyeroll-inducing, I’m considering the source. She’s not a high and mighty mom type, nor has she really been promoting her family up to now. As we heard last week, Hewitt is the spokesperson for Palmer’s stretch mark cream, so that seems to be why she’s doing this interview.

“We didn’t have a night nurse, we didn’t have a nanny,” the mom of Autumn James, 18 months, with husband Brian Hallisay, 36, tells PEOPLE. “We haven’t ever had any of that stuff. It’s been really interesting to do it all ourselves.”

It hasn’t been smooth sailing every step of the way, but Hewitt, 36, says she’s learned to prioritize.

“I think [as a mom] you just realize how unimportant stuff is,” she says. “Everything before you have kids is oh-so important and then you have kids and you’re like, ‘That really doesn’t mean anything. My kid is healthy, there’s no sniffles, they’re sleeping, life is good!’ It really puts that into perspective.”

“I’m really curious to see how similar [the two kids] will be,” says Hewitt, who recently announced that she will not be returning to Criminal Minds, . “And I’m looking forward to having two little tiny people to snuggle with! It’s just my favorite thing ever.”

Although the couple have chosen to keep the sex a delivery surprise again — a decision that “drives family and friends crazy,” Hewitt admits — Hallisay has his bets on another baby girl.

“He’s of the mindset that he’s going to have all girls. That’s what he’s preparing for and he’s very close with his mom and sister so he’s fine with that,” the mom-to-be explains. “I think he would be more shocked if it was a boy, but he’s prepared either way. He’s excited.”

[From People]

I guess celebrities feel the need to specify that they don’t have a nanny because everyone they know has one. It’s kind of like celebrities saying they haven’t had Botox (even when it’s not true). It’s like a badge of honor for them when the rest of us wouldn’t consider it something to brag about. Good for Hewitt for caring for her baby on her own. I’m going to say something a little snarky, though, it’s not like she or her husband has to go to a 9 to 5 job. She probably has other staff. Sometimes when I consider the amount of work I have to do around the house for one kid I wonder how anyone who works 8 hours outside the home manages it.

As for everything else Hewitt said, it’s cute. She hasn’t opened up like this in a while and I bet the anticipation of a second baby is making her more chatty.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Here’s a promotional still of Jeffrey Dean Morgan in Texas Rising. The 10-hour miniseries debuted on Monday evening on The History Channel with impressive ratings. If you haven’t seen Jeffrey in awhile (which is understandable, as he keeps a low paparazzi profile), this picture may be shocking. He plays the role of Erastus “Deaf” Smith, who suffers from tuberculosis. Jeffrey lost a lot of weight for the role. For an already svelte dude, a 40-pound drop is significant. Jeffrey visited Today and admitted he lost the weight in an extreme manner:

“He had a consumption of tuberculosis. And so I got there and I was probably about 175. I left and I was about 130. I ate a can of tuna fish a day. I did it in the most unhealthy way possible … I didn’t consult with a doctor or anything. We had said maybe we should lose, like, 10 pounds, and I just kept going and going, and by the end of the movie, I was just [moving] like a snail.”

[From Today]

One can of tuna fish per day! The mere thought makes my stomach growl. I’m always fascinated at the lengths actors will go to play a role. Someone usually wants an Oscar when they gain or lose weight for a role. This is for a television miniseries, so perhaps Jeffrey wants an Emmy. Tuna is a popular staple for actors who go on these diets. I remember reading how Michael Fassbender ate a can or two per day for Hunger, and Matthew McConaughey ate one can per day plus an apple for Dallas Buyers Club. At least Jeffrey realizes now that he lost the weight in an unhealthy way. He looks so different at 40 pounds lighter. (You can see another photo of him here.)

For comparison’s sake, here’s some pictures of Jeffrey in August 2012.

He looked pretty lightweight in February 2015 on the set of Extant.

Here he is at the 2014 Cannes film festival, well on his way to the 40-pound weight loss.

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes is promoting her Olay ambassadorship, which is a good fit for her gorgeous skin (as this new ad image shows). She’s done several interviews lately and always comes off calm and collected. There’s a running joke amongst some gossip bloggers that Katie isn’t the most interesting interview. She used her super exclusive People cover to rave about glitter and pancakes. Last week, she met with Yahoo’s Style Sessions to detail her sock obsession. After years under Tom Cruise’s thumb, I imagine she’s relieved to maintain normalcy. I get it (and still suspect she’s more interesting than she pretends to be).

Katie’s latest interviews include a talk with E! about how a Dawson’s Creek reunion wouldn’t work because the show “was of a certain time. It was pre-Internet. There was an innocence there.” She also spoke with Into the Gloss about hair and makeup. Katie admits doing her makeup in the car. I hope she doesn’t mean she applies it while driving. Nope, she had better not:

She likes low-maintenance makeup: “My schedule is pretty busy, so I’ve learned to do my makeup quickly because I prefer to sleep. I’ll wait until the very last minute to wake up and get ready in about 20 minutes. First thing, I drink about a liter of water … And in New York, I’ll actually wash my face more because I feel the city’s a dirtier place. Whereas in California, it’s very dry, so I actually drink more water and moisturize more when I’m there. I’ll do my makeup in the car sometimes. In the summertime, it’s all about putting the sunscreen on, then some mascara and maybe a light eyeshadow that’s in the same shade range as my lipstick–something really natural. Tom Ford has a good lipstick called Blush Nude … I do wear purple eyeliner instead of black. It makes my eyes look greener.”

Her hair habits have improved: “When I was a little girl–if I could have–I would have gone a year without washing my hair. I hated it, to the point where my sisters had to pay me to wash my hair. I think after experiencing that, I like to wash it every day.”

Her Met gala wig: “I put my hair in a wig for the Met gala this year, and people thought I actually cut it again, but no. Sometimes it’s tough with the internet–you’ll do something different and get dressed up just to get cut down because they don’t like your new haircut or something. But that’s probably a bigger problem. Either way, if I were to cut my hair again, I wouldn’t cut it so short that I couldn’t put it in a ponytail.”

[From Into the Gloss]

The internet really thought Katie chopped her hair off for the Met gala, which I didn’t understand. The new ‘do looked so costume-y and fake. That was the plan, right? The part about Katie not wanting to wash her hair as a child is gross but cute. Now she washes her hair every single day. Some people (not me) think that’s an overkill move.

So, I guess I’m apart of the PRIDE now… @blackjaguarwhitetiger #saveourplanet #behuman #notpets #blackjaguarwhitetiger

A photo posted by Kellan Lutz (@kellanlutz) on May 26, 2015 at 8:28am PDT

Bless Kellan Lutz’s heart. I haven’t written about him (or thought about him) in months. But Kellan Lutz will not be ignored!! Kellan has a new TV show, and by that I mean he’s hosting a silly game show called Bullseye, in which contestants do silly stunts and that sort of thing. Kellan also posed with some really beautiful tiger and jaguar cubs and I couldn’t resist. Kellan Lutz + tiger cubs = actually pretty charming. Anyway, Kellan is promoting his new show and he sat down for an interview with Elle. You can read the full piece here (it’s pure Kellan Lutz Magic). Some highlights:

He eats French fries & fried chicken for lunch: “I love me some fried chicken!”

Why he’s not on a low-carb diet: “If I wanted to look like Brad Pitt in Fight Club, yes. But while that looks good, it’s not fun to get that shredded. For me, anyways. I love food.”

He feels skinny: “I feel skinny right now. I like being 215 or 220 when that sh-t is yoke muscle like in Hercules or the Twilight movies, you know? It’s fun getting big, but I haven’t had any time to work out during Bullseye.”

Why he decided to host a competition TV show: “The industry has really changed. When I started acting 11 years ago, there were things you couldn’t do: Movie stars couldn’t do TV. For me, I never had the dream of being an actor. I was going to college to play football and pursue a career in chemical engineering. So when I look at the industry, I don’t have the dream to win an Oscar. But, like, a lot of people get validation, or feel that there’s a level of success that comes from winning awards. Personally, I don’t need that. If I do [win an award], amazing! Look at Matthew McConaughey and what he’s done…I love doing action movies. I love doing comedies. I love doing dramas. And if I do one of those that wins an award, great, but I’m never going to choose a project to win an award. I never thought of myself as a host, but they showed what they wanted me to do and I was like, ‘I want to be on this show.’

Making friends with Twihards: “I’ve always been a people person, but I think growing up as the middle child, I always wanted attention. And during Twilight I learned that if you make your fans your friends, they’re not as crazy. A lot of the actors became so shy that they became unapproachable, which made the fans so crazy that they just wanted to rip their clothes off of them.

On Kristen Stewart & ‘Still Alice’: “I wanted that role of the brother so bad… Brilliant script. Everyone killed it. I mean, what a great movie. I read the script and I was like, ‘I want this.’ I even hit Kristen up and was like, ‘Put in a good word!’ But, regarding Kristen, you know, I’m proud of her for being herself. Times have changed now—there’s a lot of invasion of privacy and a lot of ruined moments. What [the paparazzi] take, capture, and release is often taken as a reflection of who that person is.

His public image: “Honestly, I don’t care. I’m not on social media, really. I mean, I have a secret Instagram that’s like my travel diary that nobody really knows about. I have it for my friends and family so they know where in the world I am. People just have this perception of what I’m like because of the roles that I play. If I get people to believe that I’m this air-headed, unintelligent beefcake, I must be doing a good job. But I know myself: I’m intellectual. I’m intelligent. I have a massive passion for science, mathematics, and writing. But in doing a show like Bullseye, I get to be the real me. I get to talk a lot about physics and when contestants ask me about, you know, ‘When do I jump?’ I can whip out all the variables of trajectory and velocity of speed…And then, with my inventions…I have five patents right now. My latest product is the Blackout Bands, which I use for traveling.

[From Elle]

He goes on about Blackout Bands, which are just really dark sunglasses that you can’t see out of. He invented (“invented?”) it when he was photographed on a plane wearing a sleep mask. As for the rest of it… bless him. There’s a lot to enjoy here. “I don’t have the dream to win an Oscar…” Good, because that’s not going to happen, baby. “If I get people to believe that I’m this air-headed, unintelligent beefcake, I must be doing a good job.” Bless. Kellan Lutz says Kellan Lutz is smart, intellectual. Kellan Lutz knows Kellan Lutz is not a dumb meathead.
