I knew Drew Barrymore had a talk show, but I did not know she also had a magazine. I did know that she’d gotten sober. Nearly a year ago, Drew revealed that she had been sober since 2019. She sought treatment in Utah around the time of her divorce. She spoke about it on her talk show last year and has now written about it in an essay for her magazine. She talks about how she feels now that she’s removed alcohol from her life.

Drew Barrymore says quitting drinking has freed her “of the torture of guilt and dysfunction.”

The actress and talk show host got candid about her sobriety in the winter issue of her magazine Drew. She said that eliminating alcohol from her life has been “liberating.”

In her “Take Care of Yourself” essay, via Entertainment Tonight, the 47-year-old, who got sober in 2019, wrote about self-care and putting wellness first.

“One of the bravest things you can do is slay those dragons and finally change an awful cycle in which you’ve found yourself stuck,” the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial star wrote. “For me, it was to stop drinking.”

She called saying goodbye to booze “one of the most liberating things in my journey of life.” Barrymore said it has allowed her “to finally become free of the torture of guilt and dysfunction.”

Barrymore first revealed in December 2021 that she had been sober for 2 1/2 years following her divorce from Will Kopelman, with whom she shares daughters Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8. She told CBS Mornings that alcohol “was something that I realized just did not serve me and my life.” On her eponymous talk show around the same time, she revealed that she went to a Utah treatment facility around the time of the 2016 split to “change my life. I wasn’t doing very well and I just wanted to go talk to some people on how to pull myself out of a hole.”

Also around that time, she quietly stopped making her Barrymore Wines.

[From Yahoo! Entertainment]

I have to admit, when I learned last year that Drew was sober, I was confused. I think I was aware of her since discontinued wine line, but also was aware of her rehab visits from when she was barely a teen. I guess I was confused about exactly what she was abstaining from previously, though it seems like before it was drugs and now it’s drugs and alcohol. Good for Drew for realizing that drinking didn’t serve her life and seeking help. She saw what the drinking was doing to her life and felt she was in a dark place and worked to get out of it. And now she feels liberated and has broken that cycle, which I imagine allows her to feel more present in her life. The fact that she’d had experience with treatment before was probably all the more helpful for her. It’s hard to admit something is wrong in your life, so it is very brave of Drew to make that change and get sober.

Good lord, Kendall Jenner is such a charisma vacuum that the last time I dedicated a post to her, it was back in June when she and Devin Booker broke up. Here we are, five months later and they broke up again. We’ll be back here in May 2023 with a story about how they for realsies broke up this time. In any case, yes, Kendall and Devin Booker were together for much of 2021, then she brought him to Kourtney’s Italian wedding and they broke up soon after he met her extended family (lol), then they got back together and now they’re over again. Devin was probably like “I can’t handle a Very Kardashian Christmas y’all.”

Kendall Jenner and Devin Booker have called it quits. Several sources confirmed to PEOPLE that the Kardashians star and Phoenix Suns guard ended their relationship last month due to their demanding jobs.

“Both have incredibly busy schedules right now with their careers and they’ve decided to make that a priority,” a source tells PEOPLE. For Jenner, 27, that includes her 818 tequila line and her booming modeling career, and for Booker, 26, it’s his involvement with the NBA.

Another source adds, “They have a lot of love and respect for each other and wish only the best.”

An insider also revealed that the decision to end their romantic relationship was mutual and just came down to timing, though Jenner and Booker do plan to stay in touch.

The now-exes have been romantically linked since 2020, but they didn’t go Instagram official until Valentine’s Day 2021. At the time, a source told PEOPLE: “What first seemed like a fun hookup, is now a relationship. They are exclusive and Kendall is very happy with Devin.”

[From People]

I’m sure there are still a lot of people who will claim that this was the end of some kind of contractual arrangement and/or Kendall is gay. My feeling is the same as it’s always been: if Kendall is gay, she would just… be gay. She would be out and proud. Her mother would love nothing more than getting in with the Hot Hollywood Lesbian community, come on, Kris would ALL over that. Kendall’s family would be very accepting. No, I think Kendall is just a tomboy who is relatively discreet about her heterosexual romantic life. Discreet in Kardashian-Jenner terms, as in “not broadcasting every single relationship detail constantly.” Now that being said, I really do believe Kendall’s family probably freaked out Devin Booker and that’s why he doesn’t want this to go much further.

Prince William and Kate are worried, let me tell you. Roya Nikkah at the Sunday Times had a big story called “Harry and Meghan trashed the monarchy. Can William and Kate win back American hearts?” That question mark!!! At least the Times isn’t making a declarative statement: The Waleses will win back hearts! No, they can’t say that. Because William and Kate live inside their own asses, they have no idea how things are going to go when they arrive in Boston for the Earthshot Awards in early December. They’re going to try to “manage” everything, but we’ve seen – just this year – the kind of amateur-hour staging and keenery that passes for royal tours with William and Kate. Anyway, this article is just chockablock full of hilarity and, yes, the Keens are panicking.

The Sussexes’ Oprah interview: “We now have a US problem,” an exasperated senior courtier told me in the aftermath of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s excoriating interview with the American talk show host Oprah Winfrey last year. After 90 minutes of prime-time royal annihilation, watched by 49 million people, the monarchy’s image was seriously tarnished.

The most important visit to the US in years: In ten days, a visit to the US by the Prince and Princess of Wales, viewed in royal circles as one of the most important overseas trips for years, aims to get the House of Windsor firmly back on the front foot across the pond. The couple’s engagements will cover sport, green tech, vulnerable young people, climate change and Kate’s interest in the early years. They will attend the second Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Boston, which will be shown on December 4 on the American public broadcaster PBS, Multichoice in Africa and the BBC.

An opportunity to have American headlines: Those in royal circles know the US trip is a big opportunity for William and Kate to sprinkle the stardust many Americans love and elevate the monarchy above entertainment news, before another narrative from the alternative Californian royal court hits headlines again. A source close to the couple said of their first visit to the US in eight years: “They are excited about being back on American shores, and as their first overseas visit since the passing of the Queen, they appreciate there will be a lot interest, and they welcome that. This is a huge moment for them as they assume their new roles.

No distractions from the Sussexes: When it comes to the elephant in the room — or on the West Coast — royal sources insist the couple “won’t be distracted by what others are doing or other activities that are coming up”. The largely positive reaction in the US to Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview, which drew support even from the White House, highlighted the transatlantic divide. The US was then largely pro Team Sussex, but many in the UK were more sceptical and there was more questioning of the couple’s claim of racism within the royal family, and of mental health struggles being batted away by the institution.

Nikkah spoke to an American professor who works in the UK: Dr Christine Harlen, a lecturer in US politics and international political economy at the University of Leeds, who is from Massachusetts, says William and Kate’s visit to her home state is especially timely. “The Oprah interview undoubtedly damaged the image of the monarchy in the US, but there is a lot of excitement about this visit. Their support for and leadership on the environment is seen as a more progressive aspect of the royal family. It appeals to the values of Americans who are left of the political spectrum and to the younger generations — people who are more sensitive and sympathetic to some of the concerns raised by Harry and Meghan with Oprah. So it might help neutralise some of the antagonism and interest people who are a bit younger than those who usually follow the royals.” Harlen also thinks the US visit will help rehabilitate the image of UK plc. “After Liz Truss and that mini-budget, a lot of people and media in the US were like ‘What is going on with Britain?’,” she said. “It got a lot of negative attention. A royal visit brings a positive message.”

Tina Brown on the Keens’ visit: “While Harry and Meghan have captured the tabloid imagination here, interest in William and Kate is low boil. I would like to have seen them hit more cities than Boston, where sizzle factor is quiescent to say the least. To win America, I would recommend a White House dinner, with Kate hitting the dance floor with [the actor] Bradley Cooper, as Diana did with [John] Travolta, preferably in the dress Kate wore to the James Bond opening.”

It sounds like Will & Kate are fighting the idea of doing a real tour: Aides are keen to emphasise the Boston visit is a “trip, not a tour” and “part of their more modern approach to statesmanship”, which is about “going into the heart of communities and promoting the issues that are close to their hearts, not just going to the White House”.

[From The Sunday Times]

Tina Brown’s comments are f–king hilarious to me. She thinks Joe Biden would have the time or interest in hosting William and Kate at the White House, or that someone could arrange Bradley Cooper dancing with Kate? Y’all. First of all, William and Kate are genuinely too lazy for all of that. Second of all, the Bidens wouldn’t agree to that. There’s also a mention in this piece about how the trip is “an opportunity for the royal family to align itself with America’s most revered first family.” Again, the Windsors have been Kennedy-obsessed for decades, which makes it even funnier that the Robert Kennedy Human Rights non-profit is giving the Sussexes an award just days after William throws himself a dull Earthshot party in Boston. Beyond that, it’s like… no one even wants to say it out loud, that this pair of 40-year-olds are diplomatic lightweights. I hope their trip is an utter disaster.

Since Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, the minor royals have been sent out on international tours, to little-to-no fanfare. The Countess of Wessex was on a tour in Africa for two weeks and it barely made any international or domestic news. The Duke of Gloucester was apparently in America for six days in October and hardly anyone heard a peep about it. I’ve believed for some time now that the international royal tours are less about international media coverage and more about British-domestic coverage, as in “British taxpayers want to see their royals dressed up in colonialist cosplay and interacting with the ‘natives’.” The problem is when the taxpayers are footing the bill and no one cares about the tours, nor are the tours being covered. Which brings me to Omid Scobie’s latest Yahoo UK column, where he talks about how the new “slimmed down monarchy” is painfully dull, and how they need to inject some glamour in the form of the two York princesses, Eugenie and Beatrice. Some highlights:

The Duke of Gloucester’s American tour: He took on an extensive 19-engagement, six-day official visit to the United States. From glamorous gala dinners and time at NASA’s Space Center in Texas, to charity visits and a tour of The Met museum in New York, it was an itinerary filled with picture-perfect moments that usually make royal trips to America so special. As 30th in line to the throne, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s first cousin has been a full time working royal his entire adult life, carrying out hundreds of engagements in the UK and overseas every year. Hard working and uninterested in courting popularity, he’s made of the stuff expected from working royals—and perfect for picking up the less exciting duties senior members have no time for.

His trip got no coverage: His US trip that got me wondering why there wasn’t anyone else to cover it? I’ve no doubt the Duke did a fine job… but given the work of the Royal Family is part funded by the government and tax payer, surely profitability must play a role here too. Part of the royals’ value is their popularity on the world stage. In America, people can’t get enough of them. So spending all that money on a near week-long visit that no one paid attention to seems like, dare I say it, a bit of a waste.

Busy days in the slimmed-down monarchy: With Countess Sophie travelling around Africa for nearly two weeks at the time of the Duke’s US trip, King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort ploughing through the packed diaries of their new roles, the Wales’ off work for British school holidays (and preparing for a visit to Boston later this month), and Princess Anne having already been to New York for four low-key engagements just weeks earlier, our current slimmed down lineup left few working royals to take on a visit like this.

The downside to King Charles’ pared down monarchy: His suggestion was to focus the future of the family business on his sons and their families. Of course, a lot has happened since then. One of those sons is no longer a working royal and happily living a new life in California. And Prince Andrew, once part of that leaner lineup, was forced to retire due to to the shame of underage sexual assault allegations and his close relationships with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. It’s resulted in a small group of working royals not quite big enough to carry out the present model of engagements.

The York princesses: And it doesn’t need to be this way. In previous years both Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie had expressed interest in undertaking occasional duties on behalf of the Crown, only to be pushed back each time. Their presence didn’t fit in with King Charles’ vision, but perhaps it’s time to revisit that? Because not only is there an increasingly smaller pool of working royals, there’s also a serious lack of youth. Aside from Lady Louise Windsor (who has only just started a four year university degree), there are no other royal adults under the age of 40. And it’s not like the York Princesses aren’t capable of the work.

Beatrice & Eugenie have not been handed everything on a silver platter. Their rejection from royal work and funding saw them venture out into the real world and build their own careers (Beatrice, 34, is currently the Vice President of Partnerships & Strategy for software company Afiniti and Eugenie, 32, is a director at London art gallery Hauser & Wirth). Their experience of life outside of the royal bubble has made them more grounded and, ever-so-slightly, more relatable. And despite not being given roles, the dedication to service they witnessed in their grandmother has lived on in their private lives today. Both are patrons of a number of charities and organisations… All of this is alongside juggling motherhood and, unlike a number of other royals, keeping well out of any drama.

Charles should rethink the York princesses: Since Charles became King there has already been talk of a time when the princesses may see their titles downgraded as the monarch looks at culling the number of title holders in the family. But it feels like he’s missing a trick here. While neither have an interest in becoming full time working royals (or even changing their present lives), utilising Beatrice and Eugenie’s likability seems like a no-brainer to me (especially with so many patronages without homes following the deaths of Prince Philip and the Queen). They have a lot to offer but have been overlooked for so long. Imagine if one, or even both of them, had carried out that US visit? The coverage would have been radically different. After all, princesses are always going to get way more clicks than men in suits ever could.

[From Yahoo UK]

Around the Jubbly this year, it honestly felt like Beatrice was publicly auditioning for a royal role, doing several high-profile charity visits and making appearances around the Jubbly festivities. She was seen much more than the Sussexes during their brief visit to the UK. So, I do think Beatrice would absolutely be down for a larger role, and I think Charles should consider it. But Eugenie? I think Eugenie has a pretty shrewd streak and she sees that becoming a “working royal” would be a giant pain in the ass, especially if she ends up in the new Princess of Wales’s crosshairs. God knows, Kate does love to mean-girl whatever female contemporary is around. There’s absolutely a reason why Kate is the “youngest royal woman” in the working royal clique – that’s exactly what Kate wanted. Eugenie sees that and wants no part. Why would she when she and Jack are making their own money and raising their son away from the royal hassle? But again, Beatrice wants it.

There was a White House wedding this weekend! This was the first White House wedding in nearly thirty years, apparently. The Obama girls weren’t old enough for weddings, and George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna didn’t marry her husband until W. was out of office. The Clintons were the last family to host a White House wedding, and it was for Hillary Clinton’s brother Anthony Rodham. The last time a president’s daughter/granddaughter married in the White House was back in 1971, the Nixon administration. Just a cool little piece of White House history – and whitehouse.gov has a whole page devoted to the weddings.

Anyway, this weekend, President Biden’s granddaughter Naomi Biden married Peter Neal. Naomi is a 28-year-old lawyer, and Peter Neal is 25 and a lawyer as well. They actually live in the White House too? WaPo says they live on the third floor of the White House. Might be a security thing. The bride wore a very conservative gown by Ralph Lauren, and Neal wore a formal tux by the same designer. The whole thing was paid for privately by the Biden family, so taxpayers were not footing the bill. There was a wedding planner and everything, and the exterior of White House was decorated beautifully. There are no photos (so far) of the interior, where the reception was held. No details about the food either! I hope they served ice cream, Grandpa Joe’s favorite. About 150 guests, most of them family friends and not administration people.

Naomi was walked down the aisle by her father, Hunter Biden. Naomi is the oldest grandchild of President Biden, who escorted Peter Neal’s two grandmothers down the aisle, then he jogged back down the aisle to retrieve Dr. Jill Biden (lmao). Naomi’s younger sister Finnegan was maid of honor, and her bridesmaids were her other sister Maisy and her sister-in-law Katherine Neal. It all looked so beautiful. Can’t believe they decided on an outdoor wedding in November in the mid-Atlantic though, that was always going to be a crapshoot, weather-wise. They were lucky to only have freezing guests.

The photos in this post are from a Buckingham Palace state dinner in 2018 for the king and queen of The Netherlands. This was one of the last times Queen Elizabeth II wore the famous Cullinan diamond, which is the f–king enormous diamond brooch she wore on her blue and gold sash for the dinner. While the Cullinan was found in South Africa, it was cut in the Netherlands, which is why she wore it to that state dinner in 2018. But times, they are a’changing. Since QEII’s passing, there has been a renewed interest in calling out the British monarchy for their enormous pile of stolen and colonized loot. India has pretty much made it impossible for Queen Camilla to wear the Koh-i-Noor diamond for the coronation, and now South Africa is leaning on the Windsors to keep them from flaunting the Cullinan during this week’s state visit.

It is the largest rough-cut diamond ever found, mined in South Africa in 1905 before being presented to King Edward VII as a gesture of friendship and loyalty. However, the Queen Consort has been urged not to wear the Cullinan diamond during next week’s state visit by Cyril Ramaphosa, the South African president, amid calls for it to be returned to the nation.

Zwelinzima Vavi, one of South Africa’s best known trade unionists whose father worked in the gold mining industry during the height of apartheid, said that if the diamond was worn by either the Queen Consort or the Princess of Wales it would be a “most unfortunate” reminder of the colonial era’s past.

Members of the Royal family traditionally wear jewellery that honours the UK’s relationship with the nation of their hosts or visitors. Queen Elizabeth II is said to have been aware that her jewellery “could often speak louder than words” and used it to send messages of friendship. But the Queen’s death prompted an online petition in South Africa that has attracted almost 8,000 signatures, calling for the diamond to be returned and placed in a South African museum.

Mr Vavi said that if they were worn next week it would “be like spitting in the face of South Africans”. He added: “It would be most unfortunate and would be flaunting the history of Cecil John Rhodes in our faces and, of course, the colonial era’s mining industry – a period where the minerals and the land were taken from us which we then had to fight for.”

Susan Booysen, one of South Africa’s best known political analysts, said it was “hard to imagine” the diamond would be worn.

“Given South Africa’s history and the effects of the colonial period, especially within the mining industry, this would, I am sure, shock Mr Ramaphosa and many South Africans,” she said. “Surely, surely this would not happen.”

Buckingham Palace has not revealed which pieces of jewellery will be worn by members of the Royal family during Tuesday’s state banquet.

[From The Telegraph]

Camilla and Kate couldn’t WAIT to get their hands on all of the jewels but now that QEII isn’t around, all of these countries are going to keep ratcheting up the pressure, to the point where there will be few royal jewels left to wear. Of course, the tacky-ass Windsors will still refuse to return any of their stolen loot, but they won’t be able to wear any of it publicly, which is kind of funny. Kate and Camilla were desperate to drape themselves in all of the excessive Royal Collection pieces and now they can’t.

There have already been some articles about the state dinner and which tiaras Camilla and Kate will wear. My money is on Kate wearing one of the tiaras she’s already worn with little fanfare, like the Cambridge Lover’s Knot. Camilla will probably wear the Greville Tiara, just because that’s one of the biggest and gaudiest (and she has no taste).

As we’ve discussed, Nick Cannon has been super busy recently. He has welcomed four children this year alone and has a fifth arriving very soon. Obviously he has to work a lot to take care of all those kids, and estimated he spends way more than $3 million annually on his 11 children. That figure is just going to continue to grow as the kids get older. Nick attended an event a few days ago and he reiterated to Billboard that his children are his number one priority and everything else comes after that.

While Nick Cannon is expecting his 12th baby, he explains he has “no idea” if more are coming. But he’s in no rush.

The Masked Singer host caught up with Billboard News’s Tetris Kelly at the Billboard Live: R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players event Friday where he shared that he’s “good right now” when it comes to his growing number of kids.

“I don’t know, man,” Cannon, 42, said when asked if we can expect more babies. “I have no idea. I think I’m good right now!”

The father of 11 (and soon-to-be father of 12) announced alongside model Alyssa Scott that the pair is expecting their second baby together earlier this month. As he told Billboard, even as he continues his hosting duties and working in music, more so on the “executive side” nowadays, Cannon will always prioritize his kids.

“That’s my No. 1 priority, obviously. I wake up being a father thinking about my kids and everything else comes after that,” Cannon said, adding, “My kids are definitely the creative force in all that I do. They’re the funniest, most innovative, best questions…every project I’m working on now is through their eyes.”

[From People]

I’ve said before Nick has a lot of pat phrases he likes to repeat and he does know how to say the right thing. How else did he charm all those ladies? There has to be something smooth and charismatic about him. Of course it’s the right thing for him to say that his kids come first. But I don’t actually believe that they do. I think Nick and his needs come first and everything else is secondary. Maybe he means his kids come first in the sense that his need to impregnate everyone comes first. He definitely demonstrated that to be true while he was impregnating three different woman as his son was gravely ill last year. I really don’t think anything Nick says is good or honorable and he definitely shouldn’t be applauded for paying lip service to doing the right thing. He is supposed to prioritize and support his kids. It’s the right thing to do in the situation he created for himself and is literally his legal obligation. It’s impossible to put 12 people first, equally. And his saying that he’s good on babies for now means nothing because he’s said stuff like that before and had more on the way.

Here are more photos from this weekend’s Governors Awards. As I said, they were very well attended, mostly potential Oscar campaigners… like Cate Blanchett. Cate will likely be nominated for TAR this awards season, so she was in LA to be seen by the right people (Oscar voters). Unfortunately, Cate decided to recycle this Alexander McQueen dress which I’ve already seen her in a few times. It’s one of the worst looks in her closet, why she keeps wearing it, I have no idea. The worst.

Carey Mulligan in Valentino. She looks perfectly fine, but I would love to see her zazz it up a bit more – her looks for the She Said promotion have been too safe, too sedate. Also, She Said totally bombed in its opening weekend.

Jessica Chastain in Zuhair Murad. I don’t like this? It’s too… costumey.

Ana de Armas in bespoke Louis Vuitton. Really, really bad, right? It looks so amateurish, like the designer just bedazzled some napkins on her boobs.

Michelle Williams in Christian Dior. She just had a baby two seconds ago, I can’t believe she’s doing all of these red carpets and events.

Greta Gerwig in Carolina Herrera. She hasn’t announced anything but many are now assuming that she’s knocked up with her second.

Sadie Sink in Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2022. Very pretty and age-appropriate, I do wish the dress was a tad longer though? It feels more like a party dress when everyone else wears formalwear.

The Governors Awards were held this weekend in LA. The Governors Awards started out as a sedate, invitation-only Academy event to honor the special Oscar winners, as in the lifetime achievement award winners and such. The Academy wanted to give those honorees their own night. In recent years, the Governors Awards has become another stop for Oscar campaign hopefuls, and it’s very, very well-attended by Hollywood A-listers. This year’s awards recipients were Michael J. Fox, Diane Warren, Euzhan Palcy and Peter Weir. You can read more about this year’s Governors Awards here.

Jennifer Lawrence was one of the A-listers out for the night, with her “date” Brian Tyree Henry (they’re costars and friends). J-Law wore Christian Dior, obvs. This one is pretty good? It’s not a patterned fabric, it’s tulle with snowflakes, flowers and stars appliques.

Olivia Wilde wore Erdem. It’s not really her style? She usually goes for sleek, ‘90s or ‘70s-style designs. This is actually one of the reasons why I thought Olivia and Harry Styles broke up a while ago – Olivia has been going to every event in LA recently, like she really wants to be seen out and about… alone.

Florence Pugh was there!! OMG, do you think she completely ignored Olivia? I bet she did. Flo wore Victoria Beckham Spring-Summer 2023. It’s okay?

Margot Robbie in Bottega Veneta. Rumor is, her Chanel contract expired? Good. This looks amazing on her.

Viola Davis in Christopher John Rogers. One of my favorite gowns Viola has ever worn. She looks incredible and the colors are amazing on her.

Mindy Kaling in Versace. She looks great! She also looks a little bit “worked on.”

Taylor Russell in Schiaparelli Fall-Winter 2022. The dress and the earrings are attached?? It’s an interesting look but YIKES.

Honorary Award recipient Euzhan Palcy and Jude Law!
