Jennifer Garner gave a few quotes to Yahoo! Parenting to promote her new crafts line with JoAnn Fabrics called We Made It. It includes products that will help kids and parents craft together. $75,000 from the proceeds will go to the Save The Children foundation, which Garner supports. She’s still going to make bank with this, but she seems really committed to offering things that are lasting and help spur creativity and interaction between families. In her introductory video on JoAnn Fabric’s site, Garner talks about learning to sew and embroider and how special it was to see her mom sewing with her daughters. My mom is a quilter and she does projects with my son, so I could relate to some of her stories.
Garner’s interview with Yahoo! was somewhat short but she said several notable things. She said that she and her husband Ben Affleck work to teach their children that they’re not above anyone, which is an important lesson for children of celebrities. She also said, in a roundabout way, that marriage is work and you have to be patient. We’ve heard that from her before and from Ben too, at the Oscars.
In the past, you’ve been outspoken about the concept of “post-baby bikini bodies” — how can new moms avoid pressure to achieve one?
Take [pressure] off yourself. Nobody can take it off for you. And don’t be on [social media]. You don’t see me on Instagram. I have an official Facebook page but I’m not reading what all my friends say on Facebook about how great their lives are because it makes you feel bad. I want to talk to my actual friends on the phone. I love seeing pictures and occasionally I will go through and look at all [my friend’s] Instagram photos but if you are not in a fantastic place — if you’ve just had a baby — don’t look at your friend’s hot beach picture…just don’t do it.
What’s the hardest part about being a parent in Hollywood?
It was the paparazzi, and that, Halle Berry lifted from my shoulders [with Senate Bill 606] and she is an angel. No Kids Policy. [The paparazzi] were so aggressive…but it’s no longer an issue. The hardest part is other kids talking to my children when we aren’t around. Like, ‘It’s so cool your dad’s being Batman’ and trying to control how much that inflates the idea that one person is more important than another. [My husband I] really work to manage that idea — that just because people react a certain way to us, it doesn’t mean we’re more important than anyone else. And [the kids] are pretty quick to cut us back down to size.
How does having a baby change marriage?
You just go on a ride together because you don’t know who you’re going to be when you first have a baby and you don’t know who [your partner] is going to be. You have to just hang in there while you figure it out — and have a lot of patience for each other.

I don’t use Facebook for my personal life, which is mostly because I just set it up for Celebitchy from the beginning. Occasionally, when I’m hanging out with a group of people, they’ll all be on their phones scrolling through Facebook and I find it somewhat maddening. I understand checking email or texts occasionally when you’re out for hours socially, but not Facebook! Anyway I related to what Garner said about social media. Celebrities would probably want to avoid that kind of toxic environment on Instagram and Twitter too.
I’ve seen some of the videos of the paparazzi around Garner and Affleck’s children back in the day and they were absolutely swarmed. While I don’t doubt that they use it to their advantage sometimes PR-wise, the passage of the No Kids Policy surely helped them a lot. Kids don’t deserve to be yelled out and followed wherever they go. I wouldn’t call Halle Berry an angel though.

Last night, David Letterman’s final Late Night episode aired, which concludes a 30+ year television career. I’ve been bracing for the impact since Dave’s announcement in April 2014, but the tears still arrived two nights in a row. Bill Murray appeared as Dave’s final guest on Tuesday’s penultimate episode. He was also Dave’s first guest, and their friendship deepened over the decades. Bill busted out of a cake before leading a crowd chant. These two guys are both idols of mine, and their interwined careers are the stuff of legends.
Dave, 68, who was the best late-night interviewer in the business, didn’t seem emotional about leaving the show. He seemed ready. Dave has the distinct (and rare) pleasure of going out on top. No one will ever be able to accuse him of losing his edge. He’ll always be cherished and missed. Even Dave’s fellow late night hosts paid tribute. Jimmy Kimmel bid farewell to Dave with an emotional speech. He chose to air a rerun and asked his audience to tune into Letterman. Likewise, Conan O’Brien told his viewers to change the channel.
Dave’s final entrance received a standing ovation that never wanted to end. Dave joked that his retirement would be eventful: “I hope to become the new face of Scientology.” He also said, “When I screw up, I have to go on somebody else’s show to apologize.” This was a subtle reference to the 2009 scandal where Dave revealed his affair with a staffer. The way Dave handled the situation was frank and well spoken. He didn’t dwell on the matter last night, but he knew people would remember the one red mark in his otherwise stellar history.
The farewell show itself was a classy, laid-back occasion with retrospectives and a comedian-studded Top 20 list called “Things I’ve Always Wanted to Say to Dave” list (screencaps below). Bill Murray read the final entry, and then they had an awesome hug.
Dave ended his show by thanking his wife and son, who sat with the audience. He introduced his favorite band, The Foo Fighters, for a special performance of “Everlong.” (The band famously performed the song when Dave returned from quintuple-bypass surgery in 2000.) Dave Grohl and his boys actually wore tuxes for the occasion! As the Foos did their thing, a highlights clip played and fireworks went off outside the Ed Sullivan theater. The screen froze as Dave raised his hand to the audience a final time. #ThanksDave

Here are photos of Kendall Jenner at the Cannes premiere of Youth. She’s mostly on site to network and party. From the neck up, Kendall looks fantastic. Her makeup, including dramatic red lips, looks polished and her updo is an unexpected change from the usual stick-straight locks. The large diamond choker and bracelet are also very glamorous.
Kendall’s wearing an Alaia two-piece dress that is supposed to throw a chic goth vibe, but it looks like it’s made of folded, doily napkins. If the peekabook lace details weren’t present on the skirt, this ensemble would appear more sophisticated. The back of the skirt is almost completely sheer, at least in the tush department. Kendall’s showing off her underwear, basically. I guess that’s okay for Cannes, and we’ve seen plenty of this faux-exhibitionism at regular film premieres. The ensemble features a whole lot of fabric to be flashing so much skin. She does have the figure to pull of the bare midriff. Is this dress trashy?
Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder came up for air following their very steamy honeymoon. I don’t know why they’re at Cannes (neither of them has a film premiere scheduled) except to debut their status as a married couple. Nikki is wearing an Azzaro couture column gown. The backless detail appears formal with the aid of a long chiffon train (which Ian graciously arranged for his love). I’m not crazy about the orange twig-like embellishment, but it makes the dress more interesting.

There should be an international law that Aishwarya Rai cannot wear anything that tries to distract from her face. I’ve already discussed how magnificently beautiful she is, but she really needs to keep it simple! This Ralph & Russo Couture gown is too much!! Aish attended last night’s Cannes Film Festival premiere of Youth, and while she was easily one of the most stunning women there, more people could have admired her beauty if she wasn’t wearing this crazy half-origami gown. PS… You know what else she needed? Darker lipstick.
Petra Nemcova in Zuhair Murad Spring 2015. The peplum kills it for me. If this had been a sleeker two-piece ensemble, like a fitted silk jacket with no peplum and a chiffon skirt, it would have worked a lot better.
Chanel Iman in Donna Karan Atelier. One of the few Donna Karan appearances at Cannes from what I’ve seen. I like it! It’s a good example of how to do that shiny satin really well. The fit is great, which is absolutely necessary.
Karlie Kloss in Louis Vuitton. I think I’ve hated every Louis Vuitton look so far at Cannes. This is no different. It’s totally wrong for this red carpet. Worn to a premiere in NYC? Sure, it would be fine. But it looks more like she’s just going to some after-parties rather than walking one of the biggest red carpets in the world.
Joan Smalls in Alaïa. She wasn’t the only one doing the midriff-bearing thing on this red carpet (Kendell Jenner did it too). I like Alaïa, but this doesn’t even seem like Alaïa. It’s too flouncy, not body-con enough. I’m just not feeling it.
Barbara Palvin in Versace. Yes, the skirt has some weird sheer panels. I like the idea of a younger model in classic black Versace, but I think the sheer sleeves might make this look too “mature” for her. She’s young enough to have hooked up with Justin Bieber (that happened a few years ago too). She shouldn’t be in a gown that I could easily see on Jane Fonda.
Lara Stone is some kind of hot mess in this vintage Gianni Versace gown. They probably opened up the archives for her, but this is not what they should have chosen for poor Lara. It doesn’t fit her!!!

Here are some photos from last night’s Cannes Film Festival premiere of Youth. I’ve heard very little about this movie, and I only really know that it stars Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz and Paul Dano. Jane Fonda has some kind of role in it too. It’s mostly about Keitel and Caine though. But Rachel Weisz was the one stealing the show at the premiere! Rachel wore this rich emerald –teal Prada gown, accented with jewelry by Chaumet. Y’all know I have mixed feelings about Prada gowns for the most part. And those problems I have are evident in this gown. This could have looked really lux, but I feel like the “Prada Signature” is a messy bust and bad tailoring, and Rachel is not well-served here. The darting is also “off,” the stitching is puckered and the satin looks really bumpy in close-ups. Still, a gorgeous color on her. I’ve been loving the greens this year.
Jane Fonda went over-the-top in this Schiaparelli Couture gown. I’m not into it, mostly because of that neckline and the weird fuchsia wrap/skirt thing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Jane Fonda bringing some old-school glam to Cannes. I just think this look is messy.
Madalina Ghenea is in the movie, and she came to Cannes to try to steal Rachel’s thunder. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Ghenea dated Gerard Butler for a while, then she dated Michael Fassbender for a short time. Call me a jealous hag, but I don’t like her whole vibe. The dress is pretty though.
Let’s end it on a nice note – I love Doutzen Kroes in this Mugler pre-fall look. Her styling is ON POINT.

Can I just say? I’ve really been enjoying Vanity Fair’s Cannes Film Festival coverage this year. Props to them. VF has a piece about how this year’s Cannes seems extra, extra glam, like everything is especially over the top. You can read the full piece here. In the midst of the piece, they quote Melanie Laurent – a veteran of many Cannes film festivals – about the vibe this year. Her reaction was pretty interesting:
Earlier in the night, we asked Melanie Laurent, the French actress and festival veteran who has hosted the opening- and closing-night ceremonies, about the aforementioned surreal swirl at the festival. She told us that the flashy, energetic atmosphere around some of the Cannes proceedings this year was not always the norm.
“I think we are going a bit too crazy,” Laurent told us on Monday. “I remember 15 years ago, it was more charming. Less crazy. Less almost vulgar. More respectful.”
She paused, and then added, “But I feel the same way for any other subject in the world.”
She may have had a point. As with any multi-national film festival, where deals are made and buzz is the coin of the realm, there’s a fine line to walk between glamour and excess. Over the course of one week, we’ve seen adults get into heated arguments over who gets to take the next helicopter home from a party. (“This is like a valet line for rich a–holes,” a fellow journalist deadpanned while watching.) We’ve overheard publicists debate which yacht party they would attend that evening. We’ve been invited to a Benicio Del Toro-hosted domino tournament D.J.’d by Paris Hilton that benefited Nepal. We have, we confess, been poured champagne from a rapper’s $300 bottle while sitting in a villa that looked like it may have hosted a Bachelor hot-tub orgy. We’ve witnessed men and women in black-tie drop all social graces upon learning that they’d be unable to get into a beach party. And this was all on the Croisette, where electronic music is pumping at all hours. (Amy Poehler joked in an interview with us this afternoon that she would only do press if there was disco music playing throughout her interviews. “The only time it is quiet at Cannes is between 9 A.M. and noon when people finally sleep.”)
[From Vanity Fair]
Vulgarity? AT CANNES? While I never! It’s almost like the rich a—holes have taken over and all of the sheiks, Saudi princes, tech billionaires have invaded the South of France with luxury yachts, pillaging the film festival for nubile beauties willing to make some cash on the side. Oh, wait. That’s been happening for a while.

Stealin’ the spotlight from daddy!
NBA superstar Stephen Curry brought along his daughter Riley, 2, for his postgame interview — and the adorable tot stole the show.
Reporters asked the Golden State Warrior about his team’s 110 to 106 victory during Game 1 of the Western Conference finals against the Houston Rockets.
The adorable toddler – sporting an olive dress by nununu and a stylish headband – started interrupting dad, which prompted him to say, “You stand right there.”
“I want to sit on your lap!” she replied. As Curry, 27, attempted to continue the interview, Riley said: “You’re too loud, daddy! Be quiet.”
At one point, the tot ducked her head beneath the blue-clothed table.
The Golden State Warriors went on to Tweet a photo of Riley under the table.
“A picture truly is worth a thousand words,” the photo was captioned.

Curry later shared: “She is just like this! She’s only 2, it’s the craziest thing ever.”

Parents-to-be Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross stepped out in Los Angeles, Calif. on Wednesday (May 20).
Looking radiant in a red print maxi maternity dress, the mom-to-be went shopping for baby supplies with her musician-actor hubby.
Last week, we spotted the pair lunching in Studio City.
On Mother’s Day, the newlyweds were seen with Ashlee’s 6-year-old son Bronx. The trio stopped for a snack run at a gas station in Calabasas.
The couple – who were wed Aug. 2014 – are expecting a girl. Ashlee welcomed Bronx with her ex-husband, Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz.
