This is a disturbing story, made even worse by the fact that certain pertinent details simply are not included. In Touch Weekly says that 10 years ago, back in 2005, Jim-Bob Duggar turned in his son to the police after Jim-Bob caught his son Josh – who was then 17 years old – coming out of a “young girl’s bedroom.” An investigation was started, and the possible charges against Josh involved “sexual assault in the fourth degree.” We do not know the age of Josh’s alleged victim. We do not know what the sexual assault involved, and because the Duggar family views courtship, dating and sex in such a conservative, Puritanical way, the “sexual assault” could have been anything from a 17-year-old getting to second base with a 15-year-old, or it could have been something a great deal worse.
Josh Duggar of the TLC hit reality show 19 Kids and Counting was named in a police report as the “alleged offender” in an underage sexual abuse probe, In Touch magazine is reporting exclusively. The charge being pursued while Josh was a minor was sexual assault in the fourth degree. Multiple sources who have seen the police report and are familiar with the case told In Touch. According to the report, Josh was brought into the Arkansas State Police by his father, Jim Bob, who said he caught him leaving a young girl’s bedroom and “learned something inappropriate happened,” one source said.
A bizarre turn of events prevented police and prosecutors from finishing their investigation and possibly prosecuting. The state trooper who originally took the report about Josh shortly before 2005 never followed up. That state trooper was later convicted on child pornography charges and is serving a 56-year prison sentence.
When the state trooper ran into trouble, someone from the Arkansas State Police alerted the Child Abuse Hotline about the Duggar situation that had been sitting inactive. That’s when the Crimes Against Children Division and Springdale Police Department got involved. By then the three-year statute of limitations had passed and it would not have been possible to pursue prosecution of Josh if the allegations warranted, so the investigation was discontinued.
“A technicality prevented any further action,” a source familiar with the case told In Touch. “That’s been the biggest regret in all of this.” (The statute of limitations has since been lengthened.)
Sgt. Darrel Hignite — identified by multiple sources as the officer who led the investigation into the allegations about Josh — told In Touch: “I can’t comment or discuss [this case] because of the sensitive nature and because it involved a juvenile.”
Rumors about Josh have swirled for years but In Touch’s investigation has uncovered the secret he has been hiding. “I saw and read the report and it clearly stated that Jim Bob brought his son Josh into the Arkansas State Police and spoke to a state trooper about Josh’s involvement in alleged inappropriate touching with a minor,” one source told In Touch.
The first report was filed shortly before 2005. Josh and his wife, Anna, have three children and live in Washington, D.C., where he is a lobbyist for the Family Research Council.
[From In Touch Weekly]
In Arkansas, a minor is anyone under the age of 16. While it would have been creepy if Josh had been fooling around with a 15 year old, we don’t actually know if it was a consensual thing between teenagers (and Jim-Bob was just trying to “scare him straight”) or if Josh actually assaulted someone much younger than 16.
Oh, and of course Josh works for the Family Research Council. OF COURSE. His social media is full of anti-choice crap too.

I hate goodbyes ????????????????

Three months ago, Miley Cyrus Instarammed this photo of one of pets, Pablow the blowfish. The caption, “I hate goodbyes,” indicated that poor Pablow was no longer of this Earth. Miley has more pets than I can count, but she loves all of them deeply. When Miley lost her favorite dog, Floyd, last year, she tweeted her sadness and pain for months.
With the loss of Pablow, Miley wrote a heart-wrenching song as part of her new Backyard Sessions for the Happy Hippie Foundation. Miley donned a unicorn onesie as she sang a mournful tune penned in Pablow’s honor. You really have to hear the song to understand the depths of Miley’s emotion.
People transcribed the song’s lyrics, which look a little odd on paper. But Miley’s delivery is so sad, and she’s genuinely crying over her fish. Who are these friends who ate sushi in front of her after Pablow died? How rude. Miley also got a tattoo of Pablow after his death. He was a sweet looking fish.

San Andreas star Dwayne ‘The Rock‘ Johnson was honored with a hand and footprint ceremony held at The TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Calif. on Tuesday (May 19).
The Fast Five actor, 43, proudly posed with his daughter Simone, 13, at the afternoon event. The Furious 7 star was also joined by his girlfriend Lauren Hashian as well as ex-wife Dany Garcia, and his parents Rocky and Ata Johnson.
Although the actor and his ex-wife split when their daughter was 5-years-old, they have stayed true to their promise to “spend the rest our lives together as best friends.”
In his upcoming film San Andreas, The Rock – who plays a divorced rescue helicopter pilot searching for his teenage daughter after a massive earthquake hits California – revealed he could relate to the character as the divorced dad of his own teenage daughter.
“I know what it’s like to be divorced,” he told Extra. “I know what it’s like to struggle in relationships, I know what it’s like to have a pretty good job and be pretty good at your job, but at the same time have insecurities.”
He added: “I drew on the awesome relationship I have today with my teenage daughter ’cause there’s no greater bond than daddy-daughter.”
That said, it sounds like he can embarrass his teenager at times.
“She quietly thinks I’m cool, but I just have this tendency to embarrass the s**t out of her at any time, ’cause I’m that dad who’ll all of a sudden breaks out in song,” he said. “I’m that dad who, when I drop her off at school, she’s trying to be quiet and like ‘Go go go’ and I’m like, ‘Bye baby, see you,’ everybody’s like ‘That’s The Rock, yeah honey, I got this big pickup truck, yeah.”
After the hand and footprint ceremony, The Rock took to Instagram with a special message.
“Arm raised high.. Since its opening day of May 18th, 1927, the world famous and iconic TCL Chinese Theater has immortalized only just under 300 Hollywood men and women. To my loving and awesome family, loyal team, incredible colleagues, partners and especially the most amazing and coolest fans in the world – I’ll never forget this day for the rest of my life.. and it was all possible because of you. Yes, we’re still talking about Sansa Stark’s wedding night on Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones (the episode was “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken”). The episode featured a widely different storyline for Sansa Stark than book readers were expecting. The Sansa of the books has not married Ramsey Bolton, and Ramsey did not rape Sansa on their wedding night in the books. But it’s not just the book purists mad about the portrayal of violent sexual assault – many GoT-show lovers are pretty mad too. Why Sansa, why now, why shoot the scene in that way? George RR Martin doesn’t want to hear it. My guess is that DB Weiss and David Benioff don’t want to hear it either.
The Mary Sue announced on Monday that they will no longer promote or discuss GoT because of the rape scene. And now a United States Senator is chiming in! Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) tweeted this on Tuesday:
Ok, I’m done Game of Thrones.Water Garden, stupid.Gratuitous rape scene disgusting and unacceptable. It was a rocky ride that just ended.
— Claire McCaskill (@clairecmc) May 19, 2015
This is really interesting to me for several reasons. One, I didn’t know McCaskill was a GoT-fan (and I love that she called out the Water Garden scene for being “stupid”). Two, I’ve been following McCaskill’s career for years and she has an excellent record on sexual assault legislation – she wrote the military sexual assault bill that passed the Senate last year, she’s been very active on issues of college campus sexual assault, and she’s an outspoken and passionate advocate for women in general. I can see why McCaskill would abandon Game of Thrones after the Sansa scene, basically.
What I also like is that Sen. McCaskill isn’t calling for a boycott or for any kind of censorship. She’s decided the show isn’t for her anymore. Which is her right. And I think it’s worth noting that some people are going to tap out and abandon the show, which is fine, and many, many people are going to stick with the show. Just because we’re sticking with it doesn’t mean we “like” seeing characters raped or that we are pro-rape somehow. Just something to remember in the on-going flame war.

Here are some assorted photos of George Clooney flying solo as he promoted Tomorrowland that past few days. Some photos are from the London premiere, which was interesting for the fact that Amal Clooney was actually IN London on the day of the premiere, but she did not attend the UK premiere. There are also some photos of George looking old as dirt in Spain too. Again, it doesn’t seem like Amal came with him to Spain. George did say that Amal would come to Tokyo with him to promote the film, so we’ll see.
I only realized this recently, but Tomorrowland was co-written by Damon Lindelof, who created and wrote Lost and was responsible for the script and story catastrophe of Prometheus. Lindelof’s involvement in Tomorrowland does not inspire hope, to say the least. In fact, I’m now less likely to show any interest. In any case, Clooney, Lindelof and director Brad Bird sat down for a conversation with Vulture, and Clooney ended up giving some interesting quotes. Some highlights:
Why Clooney doesn’t do a lot of summer blockbusters: “Well, I got a good taste of it in my mouth doing Batman and Robin. “Gosh, I’m so good at this, why don’t I keep doing them?” You know, it’s never really been my thing. Even something like Gravity was a very different kind of film, where I wasn’t carrying the bulk of the weight, and that wasn’t even a summer film… But other than that, it hasn’t really been in my wheelhouse, quite honestly. I’ve been offered a few of them, but I didn’t think I was the right guy for those jobs. But I have to say that Tomorrowland didn’t feel like a summer movie.”
On social media & online commenters: “Listen, we’re at sort of a cynical time in society. Don’t ever read comments on anything! People can live anonymously, and I honestly think that when they were talking about freedom of speech in 1787, the theory was that you had to own your speech. It had to belong to you, and you actually had to take some responsibility for it. Now you can just sit alone and say horrible things, and it becomes fashionable to be shi–ty to people. Now people will come up to me, thinking they’re keeping it real, and they say, “I hated you in that last movie!” And I’ll look at them and go, “Well, I think those extra 20 pounds look good on you.” It’s become a much more cynical time, a time when people think it’s fun to only be negative…. And that’s not gonna be how I function. I’m not gonna function in that world, where negativity is going to be the centerpiece. I’m going to look to the better angels and have a better life because of it.
[From Vulture]
The social media part of the conversation happens as Lindelof talks about leaving Twitter in a fit because he didn’t like the comments he was getting. To which I say… there’s a fine line between trolling someone and airing some legitimate grievances about Lindelof’s lack of storytelling talent. But sure, I understand the point that Clooney is trying to make, which is that you should own your own “free speech,” etc. Clooney also slapped the Daily Mail again, calling them “evil” for claiming that Amal is Druze (that happened last year), even though we really have no idea what religion Amal practices, or if she believes in anything.
George also gave an interview to CBS This Morning and wouldn’t you know? He described his proposal to Amal in detail. He told Charlie Rose that he “dropped” the proposal on her by surprise, although he planned it out and even cued up a playlist (made of songs by Rosemary Clooney). He got down on one knee too. Clooney said: “I asked her, and she just kept saying, ‘Oh my, God,’ and ‘Wow,’ and we just sat there. And finally, I just said, ‘Listen, I’m 53 at the time, or 52 at the time, I think. I said, ‘I’ve been on my knee for about 28 minutes so I gotta get an answer out of this because I’m gonna throw a hip out! I might not be able to stand back up.’” Poor guy. I bet getting down on one knee killed his back too.
But here’s a good rule of thumb for the gossip world: if someone is trying this hard to convince you of something, the opposite is probably true. George is really trying to convince us of something. Now we just need to figure out why he’s trying to divert our attention.

We heard yesterday that Cannes was requiring women attendees to wear high heels to red carpet screenings. Kaiser mentioned this in her article about Emily Blunt, who had called the ludicrous rule “disappointing” after a reporter told her about it. When I heard that story I honestly assumed that it only applied to the women who were being photographed, the actresses and models in the incredible gowns, which was obnoxious on its face. Who were these mysterious Cannes bigwigs who were trying to dictate what women should wear on the red carpet? The thing is, this arbitrary and maddening rule was for all women attending the red carpet premiere of a film, not just the famous ones being photographed. This resulted in many women, particularly older ladies, being turned away from a screening for wearing flats. They couldn’t even see the movie because their heels weren’t high enough! Screen has the news:
In a bad PR move for the push for gender equality, a handful of women in their 50’s were turned away from the screening of Todd Haynes’ competition entry Carol [the film’s feminist appeal further ironising the shut-out] on Sunday night after being told the height of their smart footwear didn’t pass muster.
Multiple guests, some older with medical conditions, were denied access to the anticipated world-premiere screening for wearing rhinestone flats.
The festival declined to comment on the matter, but did confirm that it is obligatory for all women to wear high-heels to red-carpet screenings.
Senna director Asif Kapadia, whose Amy Winehouse documentary Amy screened during the festival, subsequently tweeted that his wife had received similar treatment, but was eventually let in.
“Someone I know was turned away for wearing nice flats, nothing you would wear to the beach. They were in their 50’s. They told her she could go and buy appropriate shoes and come back.”
While Cannes glamour is an essential part of the festival’s mystique and fun – men are required to wear bow-ties – the festival might need to rethink its sartorial policies to accommodate those physically unable to remain slaves to fashion or who don’t fancy opting in to gender codes.
[From Screen Daily]
I can’t believe that someone thought this was a good idea and that people were actually enforcing it. This must have been an arrogant executive decision, because I can’t imagine an entire panel of people, even all men, agreeing to force all women to wear high heels or not be allowed to watch a film. Fancy dress is one thing, but heels? No.
Screen has a follow-up from the Cannes PR representative, Christine Aime, who made a somewhat confusing statement about the fact that some security guards (also called hosts/hostesses) were turning women away for wearing heels. She said “Regarding the dress code for the red carpet screenings, rules have not changed throughout the years (Tuxedo, formal dress for Gala screenings) and there is no specific mention about the height of the women’s heels as well as for men’s. Thus, in order to make sure that this rule is respected, the festival’s hosts and hostesses were reminded of it.” The Associated Press claims that Aime is saying that this was a mistake made by individual security guards, but it’s also possible to interpret that statement as a reference to an unwritten rule about heels that the hostesses were told to enforce.
Aime’s statement may be deliberately vague. Prior to this non-clarification, Screen was able to get confirmation from a department of Cannes that “women were ‘obligated’ to wear heels to red-carpet screenings” under the current dress code.
After all the publicity and fallout, the head of the festival, Thierry Fremaux, tweeted in French that the high heel dress code claims were “unfounded.” Screen adds that at a dinner for the film Sicaro, Fremaux told guests that “there is no ban on high heels and that people [are] making too much fuss.” Multiple guests and a division of the festival confirmed this story, so either Fremaux wasn’t aware of this policy or is trying to save face.
French reader Manta points out that several celebrity women have worn flats this year at Cannes, including Inès de la Fressange at The Irrational Man, Frédérique Bredin (a former french minister) and Isabella Rosselini. Regardless, it’s clear that many women attendees were turned away from at least one screening for wearing flats.
This was a sexist rule, especially at a time when Cannes is trying to bring awareness to the lack of gender equality in film, both on-screen and behind the scenes. While it’s reassuring that organizers have denied this and are trying to distance themselves from this asinine dress policy, it’s baffling that it was even enforced in the first place. There are just two women directors in competition this year. I assume they would have been turned away from their own films if their shoes weren’t high enough.

The headlines this week have been along the lines of “Prince William’s paternity leave is over!!” His paternity leave is not over. He doesn’t have to go back to his real job, training to be an air ambulance pilot, until June 1st. But this week, William has been making some royal appearances. He was in Switzerland on Monday for “meetings” about his work with United for Wildlife. Then he was back in England yesterday, handing out MBEs at Windsor Castle. And these photos are of William today at St. George’s Park National Football Centre to send off the England Senior Women’s football team (the team will be playing at the World Cup).
Obviously, Duchess Kate was not with William for any of these appearances. She just gave birth on May 2nd! No one expected her to be there, and as I’ve said before, we should just settle in for a long summer with no new Duchess Kate appearances. She’s going to be in Anmer Hall with the babies and her mum for the rest of the year. At yesterday’s appearance, William was asked about Kate and baby Charlotte. When William awarded the MBE to Brinsley Forde, William and Forde chatted about their babies. William apparently told Forde: “She’s fine, she’s good.” And there is your update about Princess Charlotte. As for Kate…The Daily Mail had this excellent story about Kate and how she’s “the prickly princess”. Cough.
Having provided the Windsors with ‘an heir and a spare’ why is the Duchess of Cambridge described by some courtiers as ‘the prickly princess’? Because Kate’s content to be a stay-at-home mum. Ensconced in ten-bedroom Anmer Hall, she feels no pressing need to do otherwise.
Materially, the couple have William’s air ambulance wage of £40k, plus around £1million a year Duchy of Cornwall income and about £200,000 annual interest from the estate of Princess Diana.
My source says: ‘William agreed to a number of conditions about what was expected of her but attempts are being made by courtiers to amend them.’
[From The Daily Mail]
That is… very, very interesting. Some people have always assumed that William and Kate’s marriage is as much a business arrangement as it is a real marriage and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if William’s people (not William) are trying to tell Kate that she needs to be more public and more active and she’s all “Nope, that wasn’t part of the deal that I had with William.”
Oh, and People Magazine is trying to start a rumor that “Princess Kate” (STAHP!!!!) has been staying at Windsor Castle with the babies. Yeah… I thought that was the whole point of the extensive renovation of Anmer Hall: it is now the Cambridge family home, and now the Queen doesn’t have to see Carole Middleton at all.

Here are even more endless Cannes fashion photos! YAY! These are some assorted photos from a few different events on Monday and Tuesday. Let’s start with Aishwarya Rai in Oscar de la Renta at a yacht photocall for her first film in five years, Jazbaa. I was complaining about Rai’s earlier looks this week, but this is much more on-target for her. Love the rich red-burgundy on her. And that face! God, that face. Two years ago, Rai was heavily criticized for not losing her pregnancy weight fast enough for some people. I hope Rai tells them all to kiss her ass.
Natalie Portman in this Lanvin gown. As I said with both Lupita Nyong’o and Poppy Delevingne, I’m really enjoying the green gowns at Cannes this year. Only a few ladies are doing green, and when they do, it really pops. This Lanvin might be my favorite look on Natalie for the entire film festival – it’s slouchy and it had the soul of a sack dress, but it manages to look lux and sophisticated too. Plus, it has pockets!
Daria Strokous… I have no idea who she is, but she wore this Luisa Beccaria gown which is pretty much a copy of a Dior gown from 12 years ago (that every other designer copied six years ago). Pretty color though.
Sienna Miller, Rachel Weisz and Melanie Laurent at the Calvin Klein-Cannes event on Monday. They all wore CK and I think Rachel is my favorite, but I do love Melanie’s dress too. Why do all of these women look like they just woke up from a nap though?

Here are some photos from Tuesday’s Cannes Film Festival premiere of Sicario, the cop/FBI drama starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro. Cate Blanchett came out for the premiere, which was nice because I figured she would only hang around for her own promotional work for Carol. But I guess Cate came to Cannes to have fun, hang out and wear pretty clothes. I think Cate can wear pretty much anything, and I’m totally fine with this Armani Privé gown. It’s fine. It’s not groundbreaking and it’s not going to set the world on fire, but it’s pretty, flattering and beautifully detailed. Incidentally, many people believe Carol will earn Cate another Oscar nomination, so we will probably have another excellent Blanchett fashion show this awards season. Yay?
Doutzen Kroes in Dior – this is very similar to a Dior gown that Jennifer Lawrence wore a few years ago. Basically, Doutzen could do better.
Emily Blunt in Stella McCartney. I really like this. I’m surprised it’s by Stella because I really do enjoy this on Emily. I love the pop of green with her emerald earrings too.
Antonio Banderas and his girlfriend (?) Nicole Kempel. She sort of gives off a Melanie Griffith vibe, right?
Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton Resort 2016 collection. I strongly suspect that Alicia just came to Cannes to spend time with her boyfriend Michael Fassbender. That makes my eye twitch. But this dress? This dress just bores me. The skirt layers look like a vinyl shower curtain on top of a white shower liner.

Kylie Jenner Instagrammed a new swimsuit photo (from a magazine shoot) a few days ago. The original caption read, “Yes, I gained weight there I said it so u don’t have too.” She later deleted the caption and left it simply as “behind the scenes.” This makes me sad for her. Over and over again, we see celebrities get body shamed on the internet. Selena Gomez addressed the trolls with a “people are so mean, it’s exhausting.” Iggy Azalea dealt with bullying over cellulite. Kylie has heard a lot of criticism of her looks, which may have something to do with her newfound interest in plastic surgery.
Now Kylie, who is still only 17 (despite what Tyga thinks), felt the need to preempt the trolls with a caption. I don’t blame her for feeling insecure. Kylie’s Instagram comments can be pretty scary, and this photo drew over 55,000 responses, which are almost impossible to monitor. I wouldn’t even look at the comments if I was Kylie.
Here’s something interesting. Nicki may have called out Tyga for dating underage Kylie in the “Feeling Myself” video. Tidal still claims exclusive access to the video, but Clevver Music put together a highlights reel. At one point, Nicki wears a jersey that reads “pervert 17.” Radar points out how Nicki and Tyga fell out after she accused him of leaking her “Truffle Butter” song. She called him “disrespectful,” and this jersey sure looks like shade.
