Over the summer, we learned that Jhené Aiko and Big Sean were expecting their first child together. At the time, they confirmed the news with her bump, an Instagram post, and to People via their reps. Then they had a pretty cool maternity shoot, and in October they revealed the baby’s sex during a concert and had a space-themed baby shower. And now, the baby is here! Noah Hasani arrived on November 8.
Jhené Aiko and Big Sean welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Noah Hasani.
The baby boy was born on Tuesday, Nov. 8 but the couple took to their Instagram page today (Nov. 18) to make the announcement to their fans. The mom of two posted a few pictures of her and her family in the hospital and captioned it, “11/08/22. Noah Hasani after 24 hours of labor, a total lunar eclipse, and while it was pouring rain… he came. My baby Yoda, my Sani.”
“After 24 hours of Labor, A Lunar Eclipse, with rain from the beginning of labor til he was born, he’s here safe and sound. Happy, Healthy and everything we could ever ask for and more. Any and everything for you Son. Noah. 11/8/22,” Big Sean posted alongside a series of photos.
Since news of Aiko’s pregnancy broke in July, the couple have consistently shared their journey to parenthood to their fans on social media. On Oct. 13, they revealed the gender of their baby during a joint performance at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The couple asked the crowd to make some noise “for our baby boy.”
They also held their baby shower on Sunday, Oct. 16 surrounding by friends and family. “So thankful for all of our beautiful friends and family who came out to shower our baby with love. What a perfect day it was. We love you so, so much,” Aiko wrote under a video from the special day. Aiko is also mom to her 13-year-old daughter, Namiko Browner, whom she shares with singer O’Ryan Browner.
Aiko and Big Sean have been together on and off since 2016. The duo are also frequent collaborators on each other’s songs like “I Know,” “None of Your Concern,” “Body Language,” and more. In 2016, they released a joint album titled Twenty88.
Jhené and Sean took 10 days to announce Noah’s birth. That’s nice that they took some time as a family before rushing to announce it. They also probably realized there’s no way to be sure Nick Cannon won’t steal their thunder with an announcement of his own. This is their first child together and the first child for Sean overall. Jhené already has a tween daughter. Noah Hasani has a nice ring to it, however I definitely wouldn’t have guessed it. As far as celebrity baby names go, it’s aggressively normal. My friends name their kids stuff like that. I guess I was hoping for something a bit more unique from a mom named Jhené, but the dad is named Sean so I guess this splits the difference between the two names. Anyway, this is very cute. Congrats to the new parents.

I always believed that Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde would split soon after Don’t Worry Darling premiered and they had gotten the promotion done, and I wasn’t far off. They managed to stay together officially for about two months following DWD’s theatrical release, but they’re over now. No more careful leaks to Page Six and People Magazine about how none of this was ever Olivia’s fault, no more pap strolls with Olivia wearing Harry’s merch. I wonder if Olivia’s plan to move full-time to London with the kids is also off the table too. People Magazine confirmed Harry and Olivia’s split:
Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde are hitting the brakes on their romance. The “As It Was” singer, 28, and the Don’t Worry Darling director, 38, are “taking a break” from their relationship after nearly two years together, multiple sources confirm exclusively to PEOPLE.
“He’s still touring and is now going abroad. She is focusing on her kids and her work in L.A.,” says one source. “It’s a very amicable decision.”
Indeed, Wilde — along with her children, daughter Daisy, 6, and son Otis, 8 (she co-parents with ex-fiancé Jason Sudeikis) — were spotted dancing and singing along at Styles’ Nov. 15 concert in Los Angeles.
“They’re still very close friends,” says the source of the pair. Adds a friend: “Right now, they have different priorities that are keeping them apart.”
Over the course of their relationship, Wilde and Styles have had to endure drama surrounding the release of their film Don’t Worry Darling, namely persistent claims that Wilde and the film’s leading actress, Florence Pugh, were at odds.
“The public pressure on them has been difficult,” says the friend. “They’ve had ups and downs throughout the relationship.”
Sources also insisted to Page Six that there is “no bad blood” between Olivia and Harry, and “Harry didn’t dump Olivia, or vice versa. This is the longest relationship Harry’s ever had, so clearly they have a special bond.” There’s also a lot of talk about Harry’s international tour and how they basically broke up because of it, because Olivia can’t be a full-time groupie (“Band-Aid!”) with all of her work and family commitments. It definitely feels like… Olivia was the one keeping them together and doing all of the emotional labor, that everything was always on Harry’s terms anyway, and she was the one making adjustments with her schedule. Anyway, what a bonkers relationship from start to finish. I hope they both got that out of their system.
Also: Olivia never leaves a relationship where no one is at fault and there’s no drama. She IS the drama, so in the coming weeks, we’ll hear something about how Harry screwed her over or how he was at fault somehow. That’s her M.O.

Shortly after Prince Philip died last year, the Earl and Countess of Wessex went on a full-throttle PR tour. They were giving interviews, they were working with friendly royal journalists, they were prancing around, doing photo-ops. What was it all about? Well, once Philip passed away, Edward was supposed to inherit the “Duke of Edinburgh” title, and Sophie was supposed to be the Duchess of Edinburgh. When Edward and Sophie married, there were negotiations behind-the-scenes about their titles, and basically Edward agreed to the “lesser” title of Earl of Wessex with the assurance that he would eventually become DoE. The problem is that once Philip passed away, his title reverted back to the crown and it was immediately inherited by then-Prince Charles. Charles could have given up the DoE title and agreed with his mother’s scheme to make Edward the DoE. Charles refused. Hilariously, Charles also let it be known that he found the Wessexes’ whole PR tour rather distasteful and tacky too. That didn’t stop Sophie from trying to revive the same campaign once QEII died in September though. Well, it looks like Charles has formalized the whole thing now – the Wessexes will NEVER be the Edinburghs.
Prince Edward is set to miss out on becoming Duke of Edinburgh as part of King Charles’s plans for a trimmed down monarchy, it has emerged. A palace source told The Daily Mail that ‘The King wants to slim down the monarchy [so] it wouldn’t make sense to make the Earl the Duke of Edinburgh.’
Prince Edward was promised by the Queen and Prince Philip that he would succeed his father as Duke after his death. The pledge was written down and handed to Edward and new wife Sophie Wessex as a wedding present when they tied the knot in June 1999. But Edward will now miss out on becoming Duke and Sophie Wessex will not be Duchess of Edinburgh under the palace U-turn, it was claimed.
Instead, King Charles will keep the title himself, although not use it, a courtier explained. They said: ‘The King wants to slim down the monarchy, as is well known. That means it wouldn’t make sense to make the Earl the Duke of Edinburgh. It’s a hereditary title which would then be passed on to the Earl and Countess of Wessex’s son, James, Viscount Severn. Essentially, this was accepted by the Earl when he agreed that his children would not be a prince or princess.’
Although the daughters of Edward’s elder brother, Princes Andrew, are princesses, that came about long before King Charles’s ‘slim-down’ agenda.
‘There was a policy change’, the source added.
At the time of their wedding in 1999, Buckingham Palace made clear that Charles agreed with his parents’ plans. Officials released a statement twenty-three years ago which stated: ‘The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Prince of Wales have also agreed that the Prince Edward should be given the Dukedom of Edinburgh in due course when the present title held now by Prince Philip eventually reverts to the Crown.’
Edward and Sophie’s children will still have titles, just not royal titles. Lady Louise will remain Lady Louise, and James is currently Viscount Severn, and I’m pretty sure James will become the Earl of Wessex when his father passes. Now, there was some talk – when QEII was alive – that Lady Louise could choose to become styled as a princess, as all monarch’s grandchildren (by the male heirs) are supposed to be. It was up to Louise when she turned 18, but she didn’t take advantage of it when she had the chance. I don’t know if that’s still an option now that she’s merely the niece of the king.
As for poor Edward and Sophie getting screwed over by Charles… well, we always knew that Charles was a deeply petty man. I don’t even think that Charles wants the Wessexes to be full-time working royals anymore, and I’m sure their Sovereign Grant allowance will likely be deeply slashed too. It is kind of f–ked up that Edward, Sophie, QEII AND Philip all agreed that the Edinburgh title should go to Edward and then Charles was just like “nope.”

Yes! Jennifer Lopez – or Jennifer Affleck, don’t you know – covers the December issue of Vogue. I’ve been waiting for this. This is the victory lap, the bow on top of the gift that is the Bennifer Revival. J.Lo has always narrated her relationships and here it is, her narration of finally marrying Ben Affleck, after all of these years. She also talks about work, which I appreciate, plus some small asides about her surroundings, the gifts she receives, how she decorates her “tent” on a green screen soundstage (an Hermes blanket, candles, a green neon sign reading “Mrs. Affleck”). You can read the whole piece here and it is long!! You just need to sit back and let the Bennifer wash over you!! Some highlights:
On changing her name to Jennifer Affleck: “People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together. We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem…. I’m very much in control of my own life and destiny and feel empowered as a woman and as a person. I can understand that people have their feelings about it, and that’s okay, too. But if you want to know how I feel about it, I just feel like it’s romantic. It still carries tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m just that kind of girl.”
On Bennifer 1.0: “We were so young and so in love at that time, really very carefree, with no kids, no attachments. And we were just living our lives, being happy and out there. It didn’t feel like we needed to hide from anybody or be real discreet. We were just living out loud, and it turned out to really bite us. There was a lot underneath the surface there, people not wanting us to be together, people thinking I wasn’t the right person for him. I became very guarded because I realized that they will fillet you. I really wish I could say more. I used to be like that. I am like that. But I’ve also learned.”
Post-divorce from Marc Anthony: “I just didn’t understand what it was to care for myself, to not put somebody else’s feelings and needs—and your need for them to love you—in front of taking care of yourself. You turn yourself into a pretzel for people and think that that’s a noble thing, to put yourself second. And it’s not. Those patterns become deep patterns that you carry with you, and then at a certain point you go, Wait, this doesn’t feel good. Why am I never happy?”
When she & Ben got back together: Lopez’s intimates know that she has always held a candle for Affleck. Shortly after she and the retired baseball great Alex Rodriguez called off their engagement in early 2021, she got an email from the actor-director, who had just come out of a relationship with the actress Ana de Armas. A magazine had asked Affleck for a comment about Lopez, and he wanted her to know that he had provided a rave. They kept talking. They started visiting each other at home. “Obviously we weren’t trying to go out in public,” she explains. “But I never shied away from the fact that for me, I always felt like there was a real love there, a true love there. People in my life know that he was a very, very special person in my life. When we reconnected, those feelings for me were still very real.”
Getting back with an old flame years after the split: “I don’t know that I recommend this for everybody. Sometimes you outgrow each other, or you just grow differently. The two of us, we lost each other and found each other. Not to discredit anything in between that happened, because all those things were real too. All we’ve ever wanted was to kind of come to a place of peace in our lives where we really felt that type of love that you feel when you’re very young and wonder if you can have that again. Does it exist? Is it real? All those questions that I think everyone has.”
J.Lo & Ben are both “in recovery” sort of: “I have to forgive myself for the things that I did that I’m not proud of, the choices that I made that worked against me. Self-love is really about boundaries. Learning what you’re comfortable with and putting up the boundaries, not being afraid of the consequences. Knowing that in taking care of yourself, everything will turn out okay, that people will treat you the way you want to be treated and your life will feel good to you. For a long time, I was just like, Yes, do whatever you want! I can take it, I’ll be here, because I’m really strong, and I’ll be fine. Little by little it chips away at your self-worth, your self-esteem, your soul.”
Their exes: Affleck’s ex-wife is, Lopez says, “an amazing co-parent, and they work really well together.” Lopez does not have the benefit of such a relationship with her ex-husband, who lives on the East Coast. “The transition is a process that needs to be handled with so much care. They have so many feelings. They’re teens. But it’s going really well so far. What I hope to cultivate with our family is that his kids have a new ally in me and my kids have a new ally in him, someone who really loves and cares about them but can have a different perspective and help me see things that I can’t see with my kids because I’m so emotionally tied up.”
The timeline of the Bennifer revival is a little bit shifty, but I love it. I love that this is the narrative she’s going for, that Ben just happened to send her an email two seconds after she dumped A-Rod, and it was just an organic conversation which led to all of this. Please – Ben was absolutely waiting to make his move, and I doubt he even waited until she was completely done with A-Rod. As for Ben, he’s quoted in this piece too, and he’s so in love with his lady. He gushes, in part: “There is something innately, magically kind and good and full of love at the heart of who Jennifer is.” He also talks about her heart and her boundless love. Aw.
As for the rest of it… what I like is that she’s talking about the work she’s done on herself, how she used to stay in relationships and just go along with sh-t and how it chipped away at her self-esteem. You can tell that she’s been in therapy, she’s done the soul-searching and probably been through some life-coaching too. It’s nice to see, and I think it explains why she never married Caspar WhatsHisFace and why she ended things with A-Rod too. She figured out that she was worth more than settling for those bozos.
Last week, Taylor Swift’s fandom was in shambles. Tickets for Taylor’s Eras Tour went on sale, but there were a series of terrible events. People waited hours online to pay thousands of dollars for tickets, but most people were shut out of Ticketmaster entirely. There was also immediately a huge secondary market for tickets with exorbitant resale prices. All of it was a catastrophe for Ticketmaster, less so for Taylor Swift personally. If anything, the debacle has put a huge target on Ticketmaster’s back, as the full, punitive force of the Snake Fam has come barrelling down on the Ticketmaster monopoly. Still, Taylor made a statement about it:
“Well. It goes without saying that I’m extremely protective of my fans. We’ve been doing this for decades together and over the years, I’ve brought so many elements of my career in house,” she began her statement that was posted to social media. “I’ve done this SPECIFICALLY to improve the quality of my fans’ experience by doing it myself with my team who care as much about my fans as I do. It’s really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse.”
Swift said there was “a multitude of reasons” why people had “such a hard time trying to get tickets” and is trying to figure out how to “improve” the disastrous rollout moving forward.
“I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this time of demand and we were assured they could,” she continued. “It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them.”
Swift, 32, said she hopes to provide “more opportunities” to get together with her fans who weren’t able to get tickets.
“Thank you for wanting to be there,” she concluded. “You have no idea how much that means.”
Ticketmaster made the announcement Thursday, devastating legions of Swifties who were unable to secure concert tickets.
Y’all know I rarely give Taylor a pass, but this was not her fault. She’s planning an international stadium tour, which means she had little choice but to work with Ticketmaster. For a control freak like Taylor, I’m sure this disaster is weighing on her. She made sure she got all kinds of assurances from Ticketmaster that they could handle the kind of heat her tour would bring. Ticketmaster failed her and her fans. The company knows it too, because they issued a statement after Taylor:
Ticketmaster doesn’t want any “bad blood” with Taylor Swift and her fans. Following the disastrous ticket sale for the “Eras Tour,” the company offered a formal apology to the singer, as well as her legions of fans known as Swifties on Friday.
“We want to apologize to Taylor and all of her fans – especially those who had a terrible experience trying to purchase tickets. We feel we owe it to everyone to share some information to help explain what happened,” the company tweeted, along with a link to a lengthy breakdown of how fans were shut out of purchasing tickets.
On Thursday, Swifties were left furious to discover that they had been locked out of the general sale for the “Anti-Hero” singer’s highly anticipated tour.
“Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow’s public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled,” Ticketmaster tweeted without further explanation.
Yeah, Ticketmaster f–ked up and this lukewarm apology is nowhere near enough. Interestingly, the New York Times is reporting that the Department of Justice has opened up an “antitrust investigation into the owner of Ticketmaster,” an investigation which predates the Eras Tour debacle but will likely be expanded to include this fiasco. The Biden administration is particularly anti-monopoly, so this Eras mess happened at an interesting time politically.

Robert Lacey isn’t the only royal-commentator with an advisor gig for The Crown. For Season 5, Andrew Morton also advised Peter Morgan on the show, particularly around Princess Diana’s storylines, and the book Diana: Her True Story. That’s one of the reasons why Morton comes across so well in The Crown – he was an advisor! Which isn’t to say that they were making things up – Diana is seen recording her story and getting the tapes to Morton through an intermediary, her friend James Colthurst. Morton previously spoke to the Royalist column in the Daily Beast, and now he’s speaking to Vanity Fair. He spoke about The Crown, the real Diana, plus the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s moves. Some highlights:
Working on Diana: Her True Story: “It was like the royal version of All the President’s Men, where danger lurked in shadows. One scene I’m surprised they didn’t do was James letting me listen to the first tape in a working-man’s café in Ruislip in North London. All these working men were sitting around eating their eggs and bacon. I put the headphones on and I was transported to another world, a world of bulimia, Camilla, and things which I’d never heard of. It was literally like entering a parallel universe where you had a secret and that secret was quite dangerous.”
Every reason to be paranoid: “Looking back, I think we had every right to be paranoid given what happened with [the leaked royal phone calls] Squidgygate and Camillagate,” says Morton, adding that the real-life experience was occasionally “even spookier” than depicted in the episodes. “It was a time where you didn’t know if you were being followed, where you didn’t know if you were being watched. Diana was worried about her phones being tapped.”
Morton is shady about The Crown’s portrait of Charles: “I don’t know if [series creator] Peter Morgan wants his peerage but Charles is an intelligent, questioning, courageous, positive character in this depiction, so it makes me laugh when everybody’s getting up in arms about [the new season]. King Charles, if he ever sits down and watches, will be quite pleased with his character…it’s done [him] a big favor.”
On the Sussexit: “The big difference between Diana and Charles and Harry and Meghan is that Diana was trapped in a loveless marriage, whereas these two seem extremely happy together. That’s a huge difference. Secondly, Diana gave it 10 years before she rebelled and helped me [on the book]. They didn’t even give it 10 months. He was meeting with Oprah in November 2018, which was six months after they married, to discuss a tell-all [interview]. So it seems that they headed for the exit door fairly rapidly. Prince Harry’s made it perfectly clear that he found the royal world suffocating and difficult to cope with. In Meghan, I think he saw a pathway out.”
On the Sussexes’ Oprah interview: “My reaction was quite frankly bafflement. So many of [Harry and Meghan’s] statements just didn’t add up to me. So it was very different to the Diana interview, which came from her heart and came at a point when she’d already discussed much of it for Diana: Her True Story. You’ve also got to remember that Diana and Charles are more important people for the monarchy and for the nation than Prince Harry or Meghan will ever be because of their position. They were future king and queen. When you’ve got the future queen saying that the future king is not fit for the job, then that is something that you have to take very seriously. Harry’s allegations of racism, given what’s going on with reparations for the slave trade and so on, did strike a chord. [But] everything is about context, and there was no context for those allegations…. Harry and Meghan always mistook popularity for position. Harry will never be king. As every year passes, he becomes less relevant to the monarchy. Just like Prince Andrew, who was once second in line to the throne.”
On Harry’s memoir: “The fact that he’s called it Spare means that he’s going to deal with his relationship with his brother. It’s going to be a Cain and Abel saga. It will have a biblical resonance.” The author notes that Princess Diana would likely be heartbroken to learn that one of her sons had turned on the other. “Where she would part company [with Harry] is if he puts the boot into his brother. She wanted Harry to be William’s wingman, not a hitman.”
“They didn’t even give it 10 months. He was meeting with Oprah in November 2018, which was six months after they married, to discuss a tell-all…” What in the world is he talking about? The early meetings Harry had with Oprah in 2018 and 2019 were about the series which would become The Me You Can’t See. It was a long-gestating project which Harry started before the Sussexit. Then they organized the 2021 Oprah interview to coincide with the one-year anniversary of their “stepping down” as working royals. Honestly, what Morton says about the Sussexes is so… odd. You need “context” for very specific stories about racism and questioning what color Meghan and Harry’s children would be? The whole “wingman” thing is so tired too. “Wingman” doesn’t mean “William is allowed to smear and destroy Harry and his wife just because Peg is the heir!”
The thing about Peter Morgan going easy on Charles… that’s very true.

Some say they’re a little long and you may want to cut the extra length so they don’t get tangled. “These are my go to daily bracelets and I wash my hands constantly with them on. I’m glad to say they have shown very little wear in the 5 months I’ve had them. No green stuff to be seen.” “These are so pretty! They are very delicate looking. Reviewers like it as much as I do. “I love the fact that it comes with a local storage unit. Although cloud storage can be purchased additionally, it is not required. These cameras pack quite a few options in the app and are very easy to install. The fact that connecting another Eufy camera is a snap as well. The battery holds up extremely well.” “Bought extra cameras and doorbell. Easy to install. Absolutely no wires and rechargeable. Charges last for months. The app is easy to use. Also no subscription!”
An eyelash curler you’ll wonder how you did without
From CB: I got this eyelash curler over two years ago and I still use it! It comes with five extra pads and it’s under $10! Once you use it you’ll wonder why you didn’t get it sooner. My only complaint is that my eyelashes can bump my eyelids after I use this. You’ll also want to angle it a little so it doesn’t pinch, but that’s easy to figure out. This has over 14,000 ratings, 4.3 stars and a B on Fakespot. Most reviewers like it as much as I do. “I have been curling my eyelashes since the 1970s and this curler is by far the best. A fun metallic skirt for your holiday parties
From Hecate: I am the resident drama queen so I feed off of flashy. I love these metallic skirts for anytime, really, but especially for the holidays. They’re so versatile. You can wear them with a cute sweater, formal blouse, bodysuit or even a chambray shirt and moto jacket if you want to punk it up a little. Plus it comes six fabulous colors for you to choose from. You have the option of knee ($23) or maxi ($26) length. At those prices, I might get both. These have 4.1 stars from over 2,600 customers that ReviewMeta confirmed. People were even happier once the skirt arrived, “I already loved the picture of this skirt online, but honestly I’m skeptical and thought, there’s no way it looks like that in person. I was completely wrong. This skirt is absolutely gorgeous and so unique.” And they love the shimmer, “ It shimmered beautiful, waist band was not to tight, length was perfect. There is a little weight to it and is soft on the inside.” Despite what that person wrote, some complained they run small so if you are in between sizes, go up.

As much as the British papers want to make the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s docu-series sound like the second coming of a Kardashian reality show, I doubt it will be. Don’t get me wrong, I would love nothing more than to see the interiors of the Sussexes’ Montecito home, and watch them gossip as they’re eating giant salads. Come on, that would be amazing!! But it probably won’t be that. Well, we won’t have to wait much longer to see what it’s all about, because People Magazine has confirmed that the series is definitely dropping in December:
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are heading to Netflix queues everywhere.
PEOPLE has learned that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s highly anticipated docuseries from Oscar-nominated director Liz Garbus will drop on the streaming platform in December.
Meghan, 41, and Harry, 38, first signed a multi-year deal with Netflix in September 2020. At the time, The New York Times reported that the California-based couple’s production hub, later named Archewell Productions, would exclusively create documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming for the popular platform.
As I’ve said, we know they were filming during their trips to New York last year, and we know they were filming during the Invictus Games at the Hague this year. As much as Salt Islanders are convinced that Meghan “wore a wire” or hid a camera in her lapel during the Jubbly, I honestly don’t believe we’ll see much of anything from the UK. Although… that would be amazing too, just think about how heads would explode. I’m giggling just thinking about it.
Meanwhile, that dumb Palace Confidential show had a segment on how King Charles is still “leaving the door open” for the Sussexes to come back. Harry’s literally got a docu-series and a memoir coming out within the next two months, but sure.
The move to include Prince Edward and Princess Anne as counsellors of state who can stand in for King Charles was seen by some as a snub to Princes Harry and Andrew, but it actually leaves room for a return by the King’s son. That’s the view of Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden who believes that despite changing the plan to make the constitutional change, the King is leaving ‘the door open’ for a possible return to royal duties.
‘Interestingly I was told the King is keen to keep the door open, he’s signalling that it’s not all over, particularly in the case of Harry, there is a way back,’ he tells our royal talk show Palace Confidential. ‘If he came back to Britain, for example, he could go back to being an active counsellor of state, so it’s still there for him, it’s a way of not shutting him out. So it does suggest that the king thinks that things could change in the future.’
The Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English believes that the constitutional change – which has yet to pass Parliament – would have been carefully handled.
‘It’s quite a diplomatic way of doing this and making the change without poking the bear that is his son or antagonising even further his brother,’ she tells the panel. ‘It’s just saying let’s expand the role and do it a little bit differently.’
I was surprised by the elegance of KC3’s solution to the counsellors-of-state issue too – despite the tabloids weeping about the need to “strip” everything from Harry, Charles is choosing a path of inter-family diplomacy. Now, it will be a completely different story when Charles gets a good look at the docu-series and Spare.
When are we going to get a trailer for this series though??
Michael Sheen is Welsh, and he’s grown more political over the past decade or so, especially when he moved back to Wales after years spent living in America (for the most part). When I say “political,” I mean… involved in Welsh politics, and the politics of the United Kingdom. This week was not the first time he’s spoken about the “Prince of Wales” title and the need to do away with giving the PoW title to the English crown prince. That position wasn’t as popular when then-Prince Charles was PoW. Charles, for all of his faults, showed a great deal of respect to Wales, learning Welsh, honoring Welsh customs and traditions, visiting Wales frequently, and even buying a Welsh country home. Prince William ain’t doing all of that. William expected to just laze about and promise to be keen about Wales and that was it. William wouldn’t even explicitly support the Welsh football team! Which is what kicked things off this week, with Sheen criticizing the new “Prince of Wales” making an effort to support the Three Lions but not the Welsh team, with both teams playing in the FIFA World Cup. Now Sheen has more to say:
Michael Sheen today claimed that the Welsh people want the Royal Family to give up the Prince of Wales title because it has been used by the English as a ‘sign of dominance over a defeated Welsh people’. The actor has taken a series of swipes at Prince William since he met the England team earlier this week and since the Queen died has also attacked his father King Charles III, who was the longest serving Prince of Wales in history.
It came as rugby luminary Sir Gareth Edwards backed the new Prince of Wales over Michael Sheen and insisted the heir to the throne can support both England and Wales at the World Cup in Qatar – telling MailOnline that he will be doing the same.
Mr Sheen accused William of not showing ‘a shred of embarrassment’ when he visited England’s St George’s Park training centre on Monday where he presented them with shirts for the World Cup in Qatar and wished them well. The star said it was ‘inappropriate’ for William to give them England shirts as the Prince of Wales – a title he believes should only be held by a Welshman.
He said: ‘I didn’t say it’s insensitive to leave out the Welsh team. For those who care the issue is that the title Prince of Wales seems inappropriate to be held by anyone not Welsh and this is just an instance of the absurdity… The title PoW was first given to the heir to the English throne by his father the King as a sign of dominance over a defeated Welsh people. The “tradition” can be continued or not on the whim of whoever inherits the throne. Many Welsh people feel it should be ended. It’s entwined with so much of our history and how many of our present day challenges have evolved since then that it can be for many an issue that holds much more than just it’s surface meaning’.
Sir Gareth Edwards, Wales’ greatest ever sportsman, will still be cheering on Gareth Southgate’s team – except when they play Wales in 12 days’ time. He told MailOnline today: ‘I know Michael Sheen is lighting up the fire and if that fires up Wales to greater heights then that’s fantastic. But we are neighbours and I have lots of friends who have played for both England and Wales. If England play Brazil or anyone else in the tournament then I’d want England to win.’
Yeah, again, it’s about a lot more than “what team is William supporting.” Sheen is pointing out something very real for the Welsh people: that William couldn’t be bothered to even make a lukewarm diplomatic effort to support the Welsh team WHILE William is just a few months into the “Prince of Wales” role. If William doesn’t give a sh-t about something relatively minor but hugely symbolic, what hope is there that William will be any kind of solid representative to and for the people of Wales? Plus, I think the simple issue of the “Tywysog Cymru” is an easy one for everyone to understand: PoW is a Welsh title meant for a Welshman, stolen and appropriated by the English monarch, and it should end now.
