Last night’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians aired part one of a very special episode called “About Bruce”. They of course focused on Bruce Jenner’s transition and how it affected his children with Kris Jenner. We’ve already heard from Bruce’s adult children from his first two marriages, who spoke on camera during his ABC special and were very accepting and loving toward their dad. The Kardashians didn’t appear on his special, with Kris not even deigning to issue a statement. There was a lot of drama and tears during KUWTK, with many of the Jenner-Kardashian girls having a hard time with their dad’s transition and grieving the loss of the man who raised them. Khloe took Bruce’s transition the hardest, as we’ve heard before, and Kim was really accepting and somewhat analytical about it, I was impressed with her. Kris seemed in denial and in mourning and I came away feeling sorry for her.
For his part Bruce seemed on board with opening up to his family on camera, but he left out key details when speaking to his daughters separately. He came across as somewhat sneaky, and that seemed to be the result of having to hide this all his life. He only told Kim he was planning to fully transition after she questioned him about it. He told Kim, not his other daughters, that he was doing the Diane Sawyer interview and left it up to Kim to break the news to her sisters.
It was hard for Bruce to reconcile the fact that his family still needed some hand holding and clarity when it came to his transition. He thought that by telling them once they would get it, I think, and they had several stages to go through still. It was an interesting look into how a family might process someone’s gender transition, but with the Kardashians there’s always the issue of how genuine it was. The emotions did seem real, I’ll give them that. Here’s a recap and hopefully I hit the major points of the episode:
Intro written statement from Bruce: “In these family specials, we captured a specific moment in time, many months ago, as our family had intimate and emotional conversations about my decision to live publicly as the woman that I’ve always been on the inside. Families of trans people often feel like they need to grieve the loss of the person that they thought they knew. My family’s feelings are included here in the hope that other families will know that they are not alone, and to show that families move on from this grief. Today my family loves, supports and accepts me as I am – and I am so grateful.”
His children knew he cross dressed but kept his secret for him
Kendall admitted finding makeup of Bruce’s as a child and not wanting to tell anyone because she was afraid he was having an affair. Kim, Kourtney and Khloe had seen Bruce dressed as a woman but never told anyone, even their mother. Kendall explained that Bruce told all the kids “separately and alone” about four months prior to the special’s taping that he was transitioning.
Khloe is mad Bruce waited so long to tell them
Khloe brought Bruce several size 13 shoes as a present. He seemed really touched.
Khloe asked Bruce if he was “planning on not being Bruce anytime soon.” She was really upset, saying that he had children. He got defensive, and explained that he had already talked to his kids. Khloe told the camera later that she knew that Bruce was a cross dresser but that “we were never told that he would fully transition and become a woman.” Kendall came over to Bruce’s house with Khloe and they were both crying. Khloe told Bruce that she didn’t think it was fair that he didn’t tell them “how close this is in the near future.”
In cutaway segments all the kids and Kris gushed about what a great dad Bruce was and is.
Bruce explained to the camera that he was cool with Kris at this point and that “the love and support from Kris has been overwhelming.”
Bruce to Kim: Khloe and Kendall “ganged up on me”
Bruce later told Kim when she visited him that Khloe and Kendall “ganged up on me.” Kim said “we know you well enough to know you don’t want to hurt us… we just want to be in the loop.” Bruce explained that “I’ve had secrets all my life, it’s tough not to have secrets.” He showed Kim his pedicure and explained that he did it himself. He also claimed to be very good at makeup. I have my doubts about that, but we’ll see.
Bruce tells Kim that he’s going to “fully become a woman”
Kim wanted to know if Bruce was going to “fully become a woman” and he said “yeah. I see myself in the future that way.” She told him that he had to tell the rest of the family. He admitted already having made the appointment, to have gender reassignment surgery presumably. At that point Kim didn’t even know about the Diane Sawyer interview and Bruce had to explain it to her. She took it very well.
Kris is having a hard time because it’s hit her out of the blue
Kris said that Bruce didn’t really tell her that he was transitioning. She wanted to support him but she didn’t “know how to handle this. This is my life, I committed to this life, and I think that he just checked out.” She knew he had tendencies but said “that wasn’t even a discussion… I have these memories of this life and sometimes I feel like it didn’t even exist.” Kim was trying to balance feeling sorry for her mom and being supportive of Bruce and she came across very well and measured. Kim later cried to Kendall and Kylie about everything her mom had been through.
Kim has to tell her sisters about Bruce’s Diane Sawyer interview
Kim had to explain to Kendall and Kylie that Bruce was doing a Diane Sawyer interview so that he would be taken seriously. Kendall was pissed off that Bruce didn’t tell her this when she was over at his house with Khloe.
Family meeting: Khloe is pissed off at Bruce for not telling them he is planning a full transiition
Later, they had a family meeting with all the girls. Khloe called Bruce to task for not telling her and Kendall when they were over his house that he was planning to fully transition. Kim was the peacemaker while Khloe yelled at Bruce for lying to her. He said “I’m not lying Khloe, I didn’t tell you.
“I didn’t lie… I just never told you anything. It’s not an easy subject to talk to you about.”
To the camera later, Bruce explained that he had isolated himself all his life and that he was used to keeping secrets.
Bruce admits to nose job and is planning multiple facial surgeries
Kourtney wanted to know if Bruce had a date for his gender transition and he said “you do it in stages.” He’d just had a nose job and was planning to have his forehead done and his jaw shaved. Khloe wrote on her phone “he’s been planning this for a year probably” and she passed the message around.
Bruce explained to his daughters that “doing [this] publicly is extraordinarily hard.” On camera later he said “maybe this is my greatest calling in life… be honest… and maybe in that honesty I can help other people.”
Bruce told the girls that he goes out dressed as she. They were really interested in whether he had wigs and what his casual style was like. He said that he liked jeans and a top and that he’d worn wigs in the past but that “the worst days of my life were days when I had to get my hair cut.”
“There is no right way to do this”
Bruce got choked up and cried which caused several of his daughters to cry. He said that “the greatest thing in my life I’ve ever done is raise my children… I’m just so proud of all of you… I got to deal with myself. The last thing in the world I would want to do is hurt any of you. Maybe if I’m not honest it’s because I’m afraid to talk to you about this subject because I know it hurts. I understand that. Am I doing it right Khloe? You can never do this right. There is no right way to do this.”
[Recap from KUWTK, aired 5-17-15]
Overall I think KUWTK handled this extremely well. While Khloe seemed harsh at times, her reaction made sense in that Bruce kept hiding details of his transition from his family. At times I found myself thinking that Bruce was being callous toward his family, but they also outlined his reasoning well. This is a guy who has hid a key part of himself his entire life. He’s so used to keeping secrets that it’s hard for him to know what honesty means. His family loves and wants to understand him, but they need time to work through it and they need all the information first. This was informative for me and I can’t help but think that it was groundbreaking. Yes it’s the Kardashians and they know how to get publicity and storylines. This was an important one.

During a Monday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Academy Award-winning actress Sandra Bullock opened up about her “happy tears” while celebrating Mother’s Day with son Louis, 5.
“It was so much. I just cry at anything now. I feel like, I mean I didn’t have him that way, but I feel like hormonally,” she said in reference of Louis’ adoption.
“But everything he does [makes me cry],” the proud mom, 50, continued. “He sang me a song that he wrote. He said I wrote you a song, and I didn’t have the heart to tell him he plagiarized. But it was you know, ‘Bingo.’ You know ‘Bingo’ the song.”
She added: “Well the song was about you know, there was a man who had a dog and bingo was his name-o. There was a mom I love so much and Sandy was her name-o. I’m just like ahhhh. And then he played the harmonica in between and then he just kept looking at me.”
The Minions star went on to gush about her only child.
“He’s all boy with a really tender heart,” Sandy B added.
Here’s one more weekend wrap-up post for all of the Cannes Film Festival fashion. These photos are all from Sunday’s premieres, actually, and I think the majority of them are from the big premiere of Todd Haynes’ Carol. Salma Hayek is attending this year’s Cannes because she’s promoting a movie, but she’s been doing a lot of high-profile events and it’s turned into a pretty major fashion show. She wore this purple Gucci last night and… wow. I think this is the best, most flattering gown I’ve seen on Salma in a really long time. I tend to think Salma does better with this kind of clean, simple styling.
Charlotte Casiraghi came out to Cannes wearing this rather blah Gucci. Charlotte is one of the faces of Gucci, which means she would have had her pick of all of the gowns. It seems like this was a weird call for her to make.
Poppy Delevingne in Burberry Prorsum. I kind of love this? Am I alone? Very few ladies are wearing green, so she really stood out. Plus, I love the design.
Erin O’Connor in Ralph & Russo Spring 2014. She looks like ribbon candy, the kind you get at Christmas. Man, how good is ribbon candy? You have to be in the mood for it, but when you are, it’s SO GOOD. Anyway, I like that she went for a bold, show-stopping dress, but her hair and makeup just feels like she didn’t put much effort into it beyond putting on the dress.
Sienna Miller walked a carpet with director Xavier Dolan. She wore this totally goth Sonia Rykiel Pre-Fall 2015 which I totally hate.
Aishwarya Rai in Elie Saab… WHY? She’s one of the most beautiful women in the world. Why would you put her in this cheap-looking gown that doesn’t even look finished?!
Li Bingbing in Elie Saab Fall 2014. Simple, pretty, elegant. A little bit boring.

Rapper Chris Brown hit the red carpet with his daughter Royalty, 11 months, at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday (May 17).
The new dad proudly posed with his tot, who looked adorable in a white jacket, cute pair of Timberlands and a matching tutu. Once inside, the pair parted ways where Brown, 26, performed Fun alongside Pitbull.
Over the weekend, Tyga posted a photo of Royalty and his son King, 2, enjoying a playdate together.
“I honestly never knew I could love someone as strong as I do,” Brown recently said of his daughter. “I’m gonna give her the world.”
The notorious bad boy had a fling with Royalty’s mom, model Nia Guzman, last year.

Amanda Seyfried covers the June issue of Vogue to promote Ted 2, the sequel about an expletive-spewing teddy bear. It’s a weird use for a fashion bible feature, but sure. In the movie, Ted will get married to his human girlfriend, and Mark Wahlberg’s character agrees to father the couple’s child. Amanda plays the family lawyer who is tasked with proving Ted is “human” enough to have custody of a child. Set photos have indicated that Amanda and Mark’s characters hook up, which sounds about right for a Seth McFarlane movie.
In this interview, journo Vicki Woods describes Amanda as “a serious hugger.” Amanda covers a variety of topics, including her social anxiety and how she was embarrassed to watch her drunk appearance on Letterman. She frets over Finn the dog and how she’s hyper aware of his mortality. As an obsessive dog owner, I can identify with that fear. In a significant move, Amanda also discusses her relationship with Justin Long. They’ve been dating since August 2013, and Amanda’s finally giving some dish:
On her Letterman appearance: “It made it fun for me, but then I watched it and was like ‘That is not what I want to promote about myself.’” Soon after, she started seeing a shrink to help get over her debilitating fear. “I have a lot of anxiety that I’ve been struggling with my whole life. So I have been working through it. I’m terrified, but this is exactly what I wanted.”
She worries about Finn: “I just don’t want to leave him anymore. Maybe it’s because I’m subconsciously aware of his mortality. I try not to think about it, but somewhere inside of me, I’m like, He’s going to die way sooner than all the rest of the people I know!”
How she got together with Justin: “I followed him on Instagram, and I thought something he said was really funny. It was a beautiful picture of a snail, and the caption said, ‘F***ing MOOOOOOOOVE.’ It made me laugh out loud, so I texted him. I really do have my own identity, both inside and outside the relationship, if that makes any sense. It just feels right. It’s also really good to feel OK being alone.”
[From Vogue]
Amanda is usually very private about her romances, so it’s notable to see her discussing Justin with the media. She dated her own private army of douches for so long, and Justin seems like the nicest guy. I suspect an engagement might be on the horizon. In the interview, Amanda mentions an impending wedding at her house, but she’s talking about her sister’s upcoming ceremony. Amanda will catch the bouquet.
Vogue also filmed an “original short” of Amanda and Finn having the most amazing day together in New York City. You can watch it here. I’m going to go watch it again.

Reality star Kourtney Kardashian stepped out with son Mason, 5, and daughter Penelope, 2 1/2, in Malibu, Calif. on Saturday (May 16). The trio picked up some toys at Toy Crazy.
Earlier that same day, the proud mom shared a shot of her youngest child, 5-month-old son Reign, via Instagram.
And on Sunday, the KUWTK star, 36, shared a special message in honor of her stepfather Bruce Jenner.
“Tonight we share a part of the journey we have been on in hopes of helping others in similar situations, or simply to help make the world a less judgmental place. We are all God’s creatures and we all have a story. Let’s work together to be kind. #family,” she wrote.

Michael Fassbender has arrived in France, although we don’t have any photos of him yet. I’m just using some older photos of Fassy in this post, because I really wanted to talk about him ahead of the Cannes premiere of Macbeth, which will be happening this week. First of all, this week’s Star Magazine has a really strange story about Fassy and Marion Cotillard maybe getting together during filming?
She’s been involved with 42-year-old director Guillaume Canet for eight years, but that hasn’t stopped Marion Cotillard from getting cozy with her ‘Macbeth’ leading man, Michael Fassbender, 38. Insiders say Michael and Marion were so affectionate between takes, you’d think they were a couple in real life.
“Their chemistry is evident,” says a source. Michael has been dating Alicia Vikander since 2014, but has been spotted cuddling with Marion and calling her his “bella” on set. Marion and Guillaume have a 6-year-old son, but the source says their careers have been keeping them apart for months, and she’s finding comfort in Michael’s company.
[From Star Magazine, print edition]
Yeah, but they make it sound like this is an ongoing thing. They filmed Macbeth in early 2014. Then Fassy went and filmed The Light Between Oceans with Alicia Vikander and now they’re together. My guess is that nothing really happened between Marion and Michael, but if it did, it was a brief, on-set affair that didn’t last. I can’t wait to see Michael and Marion’s chemistry during the Macbeth press though – we should be able to figure some stuff out then.
Meanwhile, the first trailer for Steve Jobs has been released. This is the one written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle, both Oscar winners. So, this has Oscar-bait prestige pic written all over. Here’s the trailer:
Initial thoughts… Kate Winslet seems to be the weak link. It’s just like… why her? Why cast her in this role? Seth Rogen is playing Steve Wozniak and that fits so well, I kind of wonder if Seth isn’t going to end up with an Oscar nomination. As for Fassy… he looks more like Steve Jobs than I was expecting. Just goes to show you that if you put any random white guy in wire-frame glasses and a black turtleneck, they’ll probably have a passing resemblance to Steve Jobs.
