As we discussed last Friday, Lindsay Lohan is still a cracked out mess. She is the Forever Cracken. I actually have to correct something, which I didn’t realize last Friday: when Lohan’s lawyer Shawn Holley appeared in court last Thursday, that was when Lindsay was supposed to be done with her 125 hours of community service. I thought Lindsay always had until the end of the month, but I was wrong. So, last week was the SECOND time Lindsay’s community service hour completion has been extended because she’s simply too cracked out. Lohan has until May 28th to do some-odd 115 hours. Yeah… that’s not going to happen.
As we said last week, Lindsay’s lawyer did say that Lindsay had done less than 10 hours. Except that TMZ says that even those meager hours are in question, because Lindsay “got credit for organizing and posting pics on the Facebook page of the London-based community service org.” Lindsay got her hands on a memory stick and she posted photos from home, and that somehow counts as community service.
Then, over the weekend, a new crack-wrinkle appeared. Lindsay’s people were saying that she was going to stop trying to complete her hours in London, and that she would go to Brooklyn to do her hours. Except that right after those claims, Lindsay went MIA:
Lindsay Lohan has a master plan to complete her community service and dodge, once again, a possible jail sentence — the only problem is she’s gone off the radar, and time is NOT on her side. Sources close to Lohan tell us she’s heading to the Brooklyn Community Center to log 6 hours a day, 7 days a week until her hearing on May 28. Sounds great, but — as usual — there are a few holes in this Lohan plan.
We did the math, and Linds would end up doing 114 hours. She needs 125 minus the hours she’s already done — 9 hours and 45 minutes … and even that is suspect. But assuming best case scenario — she’d be in the neighborhood.
However, she’s currently M.I.A. in London. The 114 hours presumes she started [Saturday], but we’re told friends and family can’t get in touch with her — and all they know is … she is NOT at the Brooklyn Community Center. We’re told Michael Lohan is already trying to set her up at rehab centers in NY to get additional hours, but that would still need approval from a judge.
Our sources say LiLo is hoping for leniency if she comes up just a few hours short by the deadline, but everyday she’s not logging hours … makes it less likely she’ll even be close to the required hours. Tick, Tock.
[From TMZ]
TMZ reported that over the weekend, but on Monday, the NY Daily News’ sources said that Lindsay was always planning to start working in Brooklyn this week. She’s apparently arriving today and starting at the Duffield Children’s Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn tomorrow. Yes, someone somewhere thought it would be a good idea to pair the Forever Cracken with little kids. This is going to end in tragedy, and my hope is that the only tragedy is Linday’s crack butt being thrown into a jail at the end of the month.

It seems like we’ve got a lot of royal stories today, right? I’m sorry, that’s just the way the crumpet crumbles. All of the American celebrities are pretty boring today. So, even though Duchess Kate is on her maternity leave and being cared for by a house full of staffers and her mother, Kate still managed to find the time to write a short letter in support of Children’s Hospice Week in the UK. As you may remember, Kate is patron of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and she’s done a handful of visits to individual hospices over the past few years. This is the letter that “Kate” sent to the charity Together for Short Lives to recognize Children’s Hospice Week:
“For families of children with life-limiting conditions, every moment is precious and every memory needs to be cherished and celebrated. Children’s hospices strive to create happy moments in the most difficult times any family could face,” she wrote. “I hope you will join me in supporting Children’s Hospice Week and work to make every moment count for all of our families.”
Together for Short Lives also asked people to support Children’s Hospice Week by sharing a memorable moment on social media using the hashtag #momentscount.
[From E! News]
You can read more about the Together For Short Lives charity here.
I don’t really have a problem with this. I mean, she just gave birth nine days ago. Of course she’s not going to make a public appearance for Children’s Hospice Week. No one expects her to do that. And releasing an open letter is a great way for Kate to put in some slight effort just to bring some attention to the special week. The only problem I have is that even if Kate hadn’t just given birth, this still would have been the only thing she would have done. I feel like the royal handlers have given up on Kate’s public speeches and public schedule, so they just release “statements” or letters allegedly written by Kate (which are not written by her, but perhaps authorized by her). What will be funny is waiting to see if releasing a letter “counts” as a royal event when it comes to her 2015 numbers.

Imua… In Hawaii we have a word called “mana” which means “spirit”. “Warrior mana” is my foundation. Core of the symbolic story my tatau (tattoo) tells. My mana is my DNA that keeps me grounded and hungry. Find your “mana” and let it lead you. Inspire you.. to be a little better today, then you were yesterday. #AkakaFalls #DNA #WarriorMana #RemovingClothingIsOptional

I can’t resist an adorable story about Dwayne Johnson, especially when it involves his loyalty and admiration for the woman who brought his Rockness into the world. I know a lot of people think he’s too roidy and in-your-face, but he’s an awesome person. He also comes by his physique honestly. Johnson’s Instagram account is full of workout videos, and he detailed his diet for Muscle & Fitness. He eats around 5,165 calories per day, and it’s all healthy stuff. No wine allotment! At least he’s consistent about the plan and isn’t doing it for an Oscar campaign (yet).
Mother’s Day provided Johnson with an opportunity to show his softer side. He’s previously discussed how he grew up in poverty, and his mother worked so hard to keep a roof over the family’s head. Now Johnson treats his mother to a life of luxury, and she was overcome yesterday with contrasting memories. Johnson Instagrammed this photo of his crying mother with this emotional caption:
“Cool Mother’s Day story.. early am flight and I’m sittin’ across from my mom when out of the blue she looks around the plane, then looks at me and says ‘Son, I can’t believe the life I have.. grandma and grandpa would be so proud.’ I asked her, ‘Are you happy ma?’. Just then the flight attendant placed my moms breakfast down on the table and my mom said to me, ‘Am I happy?.. I used to worry about how I was going to buy groceries for us and now I just had my breakfast placed down in front of me’. She bursts into tears and says ‘Yes, son I couldn’t be happier’. This is the woman who when I was 14yrs old we were evicted out of our apartment in Hawaii ’cause we couldn’t afford the $180 per week rent.
“At this moment Im shaking my head and smiling quietly (as my mom blows her nose;) ’cause she just told me she’s happy. And y’all know when our parents tell us they’re happy, its so satisfying for us, ’cause it means we’ve done a good job for them as their kids. Happy Mother’s Day to all the deserving amazing mamas out there. And Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mom who will no doubt kill me for posting this crying pic. #EnjoyBreakfastMom #GratefulTears #TryNotCryInTheEggs”

If this was almost any other celebrity, I’d be throwing a side-eye at the whole affair. How dare he try to manipulate his audience with a sentimental story and photo, right? With Johnson, the whole story comes off as sincere and as a tribute to his mother. This guy honestly doesn’t have a dent anywhere in his armor. Other than in random pro wrestling forums, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who can say anything negative about him. This story is a nice alternative to the usual bad celebrity behavior.

Full confession: I only really like big dogs. I’ve never had a small dog and never really wanted to. My dog is a big Newfie mix, more than 100 pounds, and he resembles a bear cub. He’s a pain in my ass but I love him to pieces. So I was interested in hearing that Sienna Miller got a Newfie girl puppy a few years ago. She named the dog Nana and she was adorable as a puppy. Nana grew up to be a big hulk of a dog (go here to see a photo of Sienna with Nana), which is what happens when you get a Newfie puppy. But this growth apparently shocked Sienna, and she has given the dog up. Huh.
It was clearly difficult for Sienna Miller to resist Newfoundland puppy Nana when she was a tiny black bundle. But it seems the American Sniper actress failed to factor in the breed’s astonishing growth rate – they can weigh up to 9st and measure 6ft from nose to tail.
Now three years after bringing Nana home, the dog has been adopted by Sienna’s stepmother Kelly Hoppen, who owns a sprawling estate in the Cotswolds.
It’s a sensible move – Sienna, who has a two-year-old daughter, Marlowe, and another dog, Bess – previously admitted that on walks Nana ‘pulls me over flat on my face into the mud’.
[From The Daily Mail]
One side: she’s a total douchebag for not understanding that one day that adorable Newfie puppy would end up as a huge dog. I hate people who don’t understand the basics of dogs, or are like “Oh, I only wanted a small puppy, not a big dog.” Then don’t adopt a Newfie puppy!
The other side: my Newfie mix had a few years where he was bit crazy and temperamental and every dog is different. I could see where it could be a case of hoping Nana would be a gentle giant and Nana ending up being much more of a handful than expected. And Sienna prioritized her daughter ahead of Nana and found Nana a good home in the country, where she could run and be wild all the time.
Here’s a random Newfie.

Last month, Rita Wilson went public with her breast cancer diagnosis and decision to have a double mastectomy. Rita wrote a moving essay for People Magazine describing her difficult choice, and explaining that she only learned of her breast cancer after seeking a second opinion. Rita’s first doctor gave her the all clear and she only decided to consult another doctor after a friend, a breast cancer survivor, encouraged her. After all she went though, Rita wanted to get the word out about the need to take charge of your health care.
Rita has a new profile in The NY Times, following her return to Broadway in “Fish in the Dark” with Larry David. it’s a sobering look at what she’s gone through. It sounds like she’s recovering well and that she has a lot of support around her (particularly her husband of 27 years, Tom Hanks, whom she gushes about). However, it sounds grueling and tiring too. Apparently there’s an interim step between getting a mastectomy and have reconstructive surgery. I’ve never heard about this – it’s called a tissue expander and helps make room for the implants. Rita is in this stage and while it sounds very uncomfortable for her, she’s hopeful for the future. Here’s more:
Why she went public
She was ambivalent about this too. Among other things, talking openly about mastectomy seems to invite everyone to stare at and speculate about one’s postoperative breasts, and who wants that? (“But I guess people always look at women’s breasts anyway,” she said.)
“For me, this is about telling people, ‘You can get a second opinion — your insurance will pay for it, even Obamacare, God bless it, will pay for it,’ ” she said. “It’s so easy to say, ‘I’m just being paranoid,’ but you should trust your gut.”
She said she had been astounded and touched by the warmth of people’s response. In her Manhattan apartment building, neighbors she had barely met sent up little gifts — cookies, flowers, body cream. All four of her and Mr. Hanks’s children came to visit.
How her husband supported her
And before and after the surgery, the couple hunkered down at home, laughing, crying and watching movies. Luckily, they had a pile of Academy Award screeners in enticing DVD cases, begging to be viewed.
Neither she nor Mr. Hanks had ever been seriously ill before, so it was new territory. “Who knew it would make you even closer?” she said.
“You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this,” she added. “I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me. It was such a normal, intimate time…”
How she’s doing now
Though the cancer was detected early and she did not need chemotherapy or radiation, Ms. Wilson still feels exhausted. Her body is not what it was. Although Hollywood is practically ground zero for women with breast implants, Ms. Wilson had never gone that route.
“Let’s face it — it’s an amputation,” she said, of the mastectomy. And for people who do not know this, there is an interim step between a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, in which a device called a tissue expander is inserted into your chest to make room gradually for new breasts.
Right now, the expander feels hard and weird and looks nothing like what breasts should look like, Ms. Wilson said. She can’t wear a proper bra. For the time being, she is sticking to loose tops and layers.
But she is hardly at the muu-muu stage of life. When she does have the reconstruction, Ms. Wilson said, “I think it’s going to look awesome.”
[From The NY Times]
Kudos to Rita for both going public with the news of her cancer and being open about how difficult it is. She also admitted that she’s not always comfortable with public attention but that she wanted to get the word out. Rita said “I’m in public because of the nature of what I do, but I don’t feel it necessary to let the world know what I’m thinking, where I’m eating. I’ve always liked being on the periphery of things.” I loved how she joked about the speculation as to whether she’s had implants yet. “People always look at women’s breasts anyway.” She sounds so grateful for the help and support she’s been given by her husband and by the people around her. The public is definitely on her side too, and we’re hoping she’s fully recovered soon.
