Scandal Season 4 Episode 21 recap

The show is the same as ever. Command is infallable, and he will always always always catch Liv before she can clue in and protect herself, and also Liv never checks out the goofy people she comes across, apparently. I could swear that the kind of checks and …

Maybe this is just an excuse to post nice photos of Idris Elba and his overwhelming thunder. Maybe I’m just trying to help out all of the British Celebitches still reeling from the UK election, in which David Cameron and the Tories came out with a big majority after going full-throttle negative on Labor and Liberal Dems. Maybe Idris makes all the pain go away.

These are assorted Idris photos from April that I never got around to posting, my bad. There weren’t really any Idris stories to go with the photos, and so I guess I sort of forgot about them. But it’s nice to have an Idris post on a lazy Friday, isn’t it? So much thunder. So lovely.

Here’s why Idris is making headlines today: because he just broke the “flying mile” speed record in South Wales. Idris has been filming a Discovery Channel series called Idris Elba: No Limits (which is also the title of my Idris-themed erotic fan fiction). During filming yesterday, Idris tried out the “flying mile” in his Bentley. The “flying mile” is where you start the mile not at 0 mph, but with a head start – you get to build your speed before the start line, with the speed measured between the two points. Idris ended up breaking the previously-set record of 174.8 mph. Idris got up to 180.4 mph. Well done, Big Driis.

And in case you still have all the feels about the UK election, here are some photos of Idris on the set of Luther from a few weeks ago. He and the crew were celebrating something with Krispy Kreme donuts. Look at that fine man make love to that donut. I could watch that all day. They could sell tickets to “Idris Elba Makes Love To A Donut.” Idris Elba: No Limits With A Donut?

Zoe Saldana & Marco Perego Lunch In Beverly Hills

New mom Zoe Saldana stepped out with husband, Italian artist Marco Perego, and their 5-month-old twin sons Cy and Bowie in Beverly Hills, Calif. on Thursday (May 7).

After dining out for lunch, the Guardians of the Galaxy actress, 36, carried one of the boys in his Itzy Ritzy-covered car seat. Her husband also toted one of the twins back to the car.

“Love these boys from head to toe. #myheart #mysweetboys,” the Avatar star captioned an Instagram image of her son in the covered car seat.

Last month, the actress shared a shot with one of the boys.

She also posted an encouraging message to all the new moms out there.

“Mommies, don’t beat yourselves if you fall off the wagon and eat like teenagers,” she wrote. “Yesterday we took our friend out for sushi and I swear I ate everything AND the kitchen sink.”

Nancy! Happy Mother’s Day from Natasha! By request, here’s Jake Gyllenhaal. I have new photos of him that I’ll be posting in a separate article later today too.

Gwyneth Paltrow gave a lengthy interview to Fortune this week to promote Goop’s latest collaboration. This is the biggest thing Goop.com has ever been involved with: Gwyneth signed on as an investor and creative director of an organic makeup line called Juice Beauty and in turn, Juice Beauty invested in Goop.com. There’s a lot of business information about the company and why Gwyneth thinks it’s important, but I’m just pulling out some highlights. You can read the full piece (and watch the video) here.

Being creative director for Juice Beauty: “The company is kind of my dream in terms of alignment… We’ll leave the scientific formulas to the chemists. I’m very involved in everything from textures, consistencies, color, palette. With the makeup, I’ve been very involved in everything – not the chemical formulations – but how the formulations will look and feel. All the way to the packaging and branding.”

On her contract with (non-organic) Max Factor: “I still have a contract with Max Factor in the rest of the world. But soon this will be the only one.

Cutting back on her endorsements: “I’m really trying with my e-commerce business – trying to narrow it down and be very strategic about it and mindful of the alignments I make. Juice is our first foray into our own label product. I don’t look at this as an endorsement, because I care so much about the ethos of the company and the product that they’re making.

Her involvement with Goop: “Every day. Right now I’m inextricably linked to the company. The company needs me and my presence. Until it’s a brand that doesn’t need me – which I hope will happen in the next five years – it’s important that I’m there and committed. I haven’t filmed anything in a year because I want to properly do this. I’m doing edits all the time with my buyer, and we have a new ad sales team, and they’re bringing in partnerships there. It’s just a lot. It sounds trite to say I’m involved. It’s my company and I work there every day. It requires a lot of me, and nothing happens without me being involved except coding.

Whether Goop is profitable: “We make money. It surprises me when we look at the balance sheet. Our revenue is good. We don’t lose money. Our burn rate is pretty high. We have to hire people all the time. We don’t have any debt at all. We just hired this incredible ad sales team. We need to take money in order to grow.

Her Food Stamp Challenge failure: “People love to get hyper-involved in the decisions that I make. The point was to bring awareness to the fact that we have a really long way to go in this country, and that even eating fresh food is a luxury, and it really shouldn’t be. I found it really incredibly challenging. I’m really glad that I understood what millions of American families are trying to do. Like what I said on the website, the fact that women aren’t paid what men are paid just makes the problem worse. Because if women were paid an equal wage – certainly the choice to feed your family more nutritious food would be available.

[From Fortune]

Reading through the full transcript, I was actually impressed with Gwyneth’s business ambition and goal-setting for Goop. But with the good comes the bad – only Gwyneth would treat her multi-million-dollar Max Factor contract like it was dog sh-t on her Jimmy Choo. Of course she got that Max Factor money – PEASANTS! – and in turn, she’ll diss all of the non-organic makeup lines out there. As for Gwyneth’s daily, hands-on involvement and her supreme sacrifice of not doing any films for a year just so she can focus solely on Goop… well, if that’s what it takes to get her off of movie screens, then YAY.

Oh, and “People love to get hyper-involved in the decisions that I make…” God, she’s such a snot. The whole raison d’etre of having a huge lifestyle company and a big social media footprint is because you want people to pay attention to the decisions and choices you make. You can’t invite people in and then complain about it.

Meanwhile, the current issue of Us Weekly has a story about Gwyneth and her boyfriend/lover Brad Falchuk. They had a dinner date at Jon & Vinny’s in LA, and after dinner, they danced to Nicki Minaj’s “Truffle Butter.” Goop is so gangsta.

An expectant Jaime King poses for Who What Wear and opens up about her maternity style, her makeup-obsessed son James, 19 months, and her upcoming Mother’s Day plans.

On her maternity style: “You know, for me, getting pregnant is such a celebration of femininity and a celebration of your growing body. In a way, it’s the only time you don’t have to suck in and the only time that it doesn’t matter really how big you are or what your body looks like. You can wear formfitting clothes, and you can wear things that show off how your body has changed. Your breasts and everything get bigger, and I think that’s a beautiful sign of fertility and something that should be, again, accentuated and celebrated. What I decided when I got pregnant is that if anything, I’m going to have more fun with my fashion, because I love dressing, I love taking risks, and why not show the world that it’s okay, you can really go there? Just because you are a mom doesn’t mean you can’t be cool and fashionable. It doesn’t mean you can’t have your own sense of individuality and creativity. You can still have all that and more, because it’s the ultimate creativity, having a baby.”

On her best beauty tip for new moms: “Even when you are exhausted and you’re working and you’re going on three hours of sleep and feel like a zombie, part of alleviating that feeling is doing something that makes you feel beautiful. If you are exhausted, give yourself a manicure or go get your hair colored. If you have 10-15 minutes to yourself, that makes all the difference. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom or a working mom, you have to find a way to keep remembering who you are and that you are still sensual and sexy and beautiful and strong—you’ve just done one of the strongest things you could possibly do, which is to create life. After I’ve been filming or working for six hours and I have to pick up groceries or baby food or diapers, I will literally go to the grocery store and grab a coffee or tea and pull over on the side of the road and get out of my car and walk for 10 minutes. And that 10 minutes is my time. I leave the phone in the car and nobody knows. It’s time to reflect and take care of myself and just to have a moment for me.”

On the greatest reward of motherhood: “The most rewarding part is the depths of love. And seeing this tiny human being that was in your belly grow and what they gravitate towards and giving them the freedom to express and be who they are. My son is obsessed with makeup, so I got him a makeup kit. Every time a makeup artist comes over, they donate a brush or something to his kit. Yet at the same time, he’s playing soccer and really loves to swim. To me, it’s about nurturing every aspect of your child’s personality. When you really allow someone that kind of freedom creatively, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally yet keep the structure of discipline in regards to sleeping, eating, and taking care of them, those are the key components of a really great parent, and those are the best moments of it.”

On her Mother’s Day plans: “I have no plans. I could literally just be watching Frozen for the five-billionth time, and it would be the perfect day.”

Last week, we had an early preview and some quotes from Kristen Stewart’s Harper’s Bazaar UK cover, editorial and cover interview. The editorial was lovely, and the interview wasn’t as awkward and twitchy as Kristen’s usual shtick. Well, Bazaar has released more quotes from the interview and… I don’t know. I’m not “mad” at Kristen and I don’t think she sounds flat-out stupid, but I feel like she needs to figure out a better way to do interviews, a better way to express herself. Some new excerpts:

Kristen on her style: “I either like being really sexy or insanely androgynous. I’m not great at applying make-up myself. My mom never taught me anything, she doesn’t wear make-up…I like mineral make-up. You can’t screw it up and it’s not bad for your skin.”

She’ll never have plastic surgery: “No, never. Never. I am so freaked out by the idea of doing anything. And maybe that’s completely arrogant but I don’t want to change anything about myself. I think the women who do are losing their minds. It’s vandalism.”

Her “messy” hair: “I don’t like having nice hair, ever. There’s something about it that pushes me over into feeling like I’m wearing a costume. So long as I can have my hair the way it normally is, then I can do everything else full on.”

Her workouts: “When I’m in good shape I can do 40 push-ups in one go. If I’m not in good shape, I can do 10. If I am trying to get into shape and I want to be strong, I’ll drop and do 20 every half hour throughout the day. I can do 250 push-ups in a day, which is pretty impressive. At the moment, I can do 20 comfortably. It takes me about a month to get into phenomenal shape with a trainer.”

[From E! News]

I can’t do push-ups. No, let me restate that… I don’t give a crap about push-ups so I never try. I do weight training on my arms, of course, but the idea of judging my workouts solely on how many push-ups I can do? That’s so weird to me. As for the rest of it… her comments about plastic surgery are interesting. I think it’s pretty easy when you look like Kristen Stewart to say “I don’t want to change anything about myself.” For the rest of us? Yeah, of course there are smaller and bigger things we would like to change and no, it’s not “vandalism.”

Here are some photos of Kristen out in LA yesterday. She met up with a friend outside of a studio and she smoked a cigarette. THOSE PANTS THOUGH.

As I briefly discussed in a post yesterday, Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb did dueling morning show interviews on Thursday. Sofia spoke to Good Morning America, and she hit back harder on Loeb’s lawsuit seeking custody of the frozen embryos they created together. Sofia’s reaction was basically that Nick is a thirsty, attention-seeking jackass and he’s trying to ruin her or punish her for not wanting to have babies with him. Well, I got a chance to watch Loeb’s Today Show interview, and I just have to say… there’s something wrong with this man. I found his whole argument to be profoundly disturbing.

The major headline out of the interview is likely that Loeb doesn’t confirm or deny his previous allegations (in the lawsuit he filed against Sofia) that Sofia had “abused” him physically. I sort of forgot that he was claiming that too, but Hoda Kotb read out that part of the lawsuit, where Loeb tells the court that Sofia “physically abused him on four separate occasions, she punched him in the face on two occasions, kicked him and threw her phone at his head. She also routinely bullied him, called him a loser, worthless and other degrading names.” Loeb also claims in the lawsuit that when it came to the embryo/IVF contracts, Loeb only “signed this portion of the form directive, even though he did not agree with it, in order to avoid further abuse.” Seriously, that’s his argument. He signed a legal embryo contract with his abusive fiancée so that she would stop abusing him. I’m not saying that kind of thing would never happen, I’m just saying that it really did not happen in this case. Around the 5:45 mark is where Hoda asks about the abuse.

He deflects those questions like a pro. I wonder why he didn’t bring up those abuse claims in his NYT op-ed? As for the rest of it… well, watch the whole thing if you want to come away from it profoundly disturbed by the argument he’s making, that he should be given custody of those two embryos regardless of all of the legal protections Sofia was contractually given. Note the way he coolly denies leaking the information about the lawsuit to the tabloids. It just feels like he will do anything to be part of Sofia’s life, even if it means publicly harassing her, lying about her on national television and pandering to the biggest anti-choice wingnuts out there.

Oh, and wouldn’t you know, Loeb also stopped by CNN for an interview too. So thirsty. So creepy.

Look who’s one!

The Hills alum Kristin Cavallari and husband, football star Jay Cutler, celebrated their son Jaxon‘s first birthday on Wednesday (May 6). “Well, that was the fastest year of my life. Happy 1st birthday to my little baby bull! I love u with all of my heart, wild man,” the reality star Instagrammed the image.

In the cute pic, Kristin’s youngest son has his back turned while playing with toys on a basketball court.

The Laguna Beach star and her NFL hubby, 32, are also parents to 2-year-old son Camden.

“[It’s] really sweet seeing Camden love being a big brother. Plus, you’re definitely more relaxed with the second one because you’re not stressed out by questioning everything that you’re doing,” the reality star-turned fashion designer told Chicago’s Michigan Avenue magazine last year.

As for adding to the brood?

“Before we had children, Jay and I both wanted four,” she said. “Now we’re thinking three, but we’re just going to have to see how it goes. Right now the last thing on my mind is having another baby, but it is a ton of fun.”

In a series of Instagram pics, Kristin shares shots of her growing boys. Continue looking through our gallery to see the Cavallari-Cutler family photos.
