Decked out in an Adidas tracksuit, pop superstar Gwen Stefani stepped out with two of her sons – Kingston, nearly 9, and Apollo, 13 months – in Encino, Calif. on Saturday (April 25).
After attending a birthday party with her boys, the No Doubt frontwoman, 45, gave a homeless Vet some money at a stop light. Next, the trio stopped at a bookstore before heading home.
The group were not joined by papa, fellow rocker Gavin Rossdale, and 6-year-old brother Zuma.
The mom-of-three is currently working on her upcoming solo album, the follow-up to 2006’s The Sweet Escape.
She has been collaborating with Pharrell Williams, with whom she served as a judge on The Voice.

Last night was Washington’s Nerd Prom, otherwise known the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Every media outlet buys a table and they invite various politicos, reporters and celebrities. The Nerd Prom has been especially popular over the past seven years of Pres. Obama’s administration – Obama made it “cool” again, his speeches are always hilarious and the comedian speakers have been much, much better.
I actually thought Obama’s speech this year lost some of his previous light, funny touch, but things picked up when Obama’s amazing “anger translator” Luther made a surprise appearance. In case you don’t know, this is a bit on Key & Peele, where Jordan Peele plays Obama as straight-laced and even-tempered and Keegan-Michael Key plays Luther, Obama’s “anger translator,” saying all of the harsh things that Obama can’t say. Keegan-Michael surprised everyone when he came on stage half-way through Obama’s speech and (no apologies) I laughed the hardest at the mention of Hillary Clinton and Luther is all “THE KHALEESI IS COMING TO WESTEROS.”
I also loved Obama’s “rhymes with Bucket List” jokes. And this great one about Bernie Sanders running for president: “Apparently people really want to see a pot-smoking socialist in the White House. We could get a third Obama term after all.”
Last night’s comedienne was Saturday Night Live’s Cecily Strong, who did a very good job (I thought) even though some of her jokes got groans or complete silence in the room. I liked that she wasn’t afraid to make some harsher jokes about the media, politicians, the Secret Service and all that.
My favorite? “It feels so weird to be up here. Since I’m only a comedian, I’m not going to try and tell you comedians how to do politics. That would be like you guys telling me what to do with my body. I mean, can you even imagine? Crazy.” She did the obligatory “this is an event at the Washington Hilton” joke, which was “It’s an honor to be here at the Washington Hilton . . . is something a prostitute might say to a congressman.” I loved this Secret Service joke: “Let’s give it up for the Secret Service, they’re the only law enforcement organization in the country that will get in trouble if a black man gets shot.”
Strong made a bunch of Hillary Clinton jokes, only she was very pro-Hillary. I liked “I’m excited about Hillary running, though I’m not sure she’s excited about having to run. I imagine she feels the same way Meryl Streep feels when she’s asked to audition for something.” I loved when Strong spoke directly to Michelle Obama and told her to enjoy her garden while she can because Bill Clinton is going to turn it into a pool.
Oh, and she made a Benedict Cumberbatch joke!! It was amazing and on-point too. She said Jeb Bush goes by JEB because his real name is John Ellis Bush, and Strong said he was “overcompensating…It’s kind of like if Benedict Cumberbatch decided to go by ‘Skeeter.’”

Here are some photos of Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince William at the “commemorative ceremony marking the centenary of the Gallipoli campaign,” otherwise known as Anzac Day, in London yesterday. William added this to his schedule somewhat last minute, I guess he was expecting Kate to be in labor around now (which will probably happen today or in the next few days, I’m hoping). As you can see, Kate didn’t join William and no one was expecting her to. As you can also see, the Queen looked fabulous in black & white.
Meanwhile, on Friday, The Express’s royal reporter Richard Palmer published a rather scathing exposé on William’s work-shy ways. Palmer cited a study done by the “anti-monarchy” group Republic and their examination of the real numbers of William’s work schedule. The study picks up on William’s schedule after he left his RAF job in September 2013, and while Republic acknowledges that William did some work on anti-poaching campaigns (in between hunting trips with Jecca Craig, obviously), Republic does not a distinct lack of… actual WORK.
Republic complained that William’s decision to leave his job as an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot after serving only one three-year tour of duty had left the taxpayer with a £400,000 bill in training costs never recovered. Graham Smith, Republic’s chief executive, said: “Despite continuous claims of being a hardworking royal, Prince William has been anything but. William has done fewer than 47 days of work in the year since leaving his RAF job. A lot of these engagements have been entirely self-serving, promoting the royal brand as much as performing any kind of public service.”
The Duke, who has postponed becoming a fulltime working royal to pursue a career as an air ambulance pilot, has always undertaken part-time royal duties, like his brother Prince Harry. In the year between September 2013 and September 2014, when he began studying for air ambulance exams, he worked on royal duties for at least part of 78 days, according to Republic. But after calculating the time he was actually on official duty and allowing for travel and planning time, the group estimated that William worked the equivalent of 46.7 full days.
Some 49 of the engagements he took in that time were for parties, trips to the cinema, sports fixtures or other kinds of entertainment, according to Republic. There were two trips to the cinema, 14 to a show, sports event or theme park, while 21 were attending a party, 10 a dinner, and two were going to church. “For most public figures these would be considered private events or perks of the position, even if deemed to be part of the job, as it might with a political leader,” Mr Smith said.
Much of William’s royal work is funded by his father Prince Charles’s income from the Duchy of Cornwall estate, a property empire designed to give each heir to the throne a private source of funds. But he and Kate live in taxpayer-funded accommodation at Kensington Palace. Their 21-room apartment cost taxpayers £4.5 million in renovations before they moved into it. They are also protected around-the-clock by taxpayer-funded Scotland Yard police officers and have their travel and costs met from the Government in the Queen’s Sovereign Grant.
Royal sources pointed out that William’s 10-week agricultural management course at Cambridge was designed to prepare him for his future royal role as Prince of Wales managing the Duchy of Cornwall. Privately, some friends of the family have admitted, however, that his “transitional year” was not as busy as Kensington Palace might have suggested initially. Palace officials objected in the strongest terms when British media described it as a second gap year.
Mr Smith said: “The claims of hard work by royals have always sounded hollow – hardworking people do long days five or six days a week and get paid normal salaries, while keeping up with the demands of family, mortgages and struggling with the rising cost of living. This research puts the lie to the claims and shows William to be every bit as lazy and cynical as any other royal.”
[From Express]
This is what gets me: “Privately, some friends of the family have admitted, however, that his ‘transitional year’ was not as busy as Kensington Palace might have suggested initially…” No sh-t, Sherlock. William didn’t even have Kate’s built-in excuse of “wanting to be a stay-at-home mom to her first child.” Even Kate said that William was barely around for George’s first year (nor do I believe that William is around that much for George right now). William doesn’t want to do royal work and if you’re going to make him do any kind of work, it’s got to be fluff like “going to a film premiere” and even then he’s going to pad the numbers. So he doesn’t want to do royal work, he doesn’t want to spend time with his family, he wants to fly planes… until he gets bored with that too. Whatever is a petulant princeling to do?

Amber Heard is currently plugging her new movie, When I Live My Life Over Again, which features her as a punk rock singer (alongside Christopher Walken). I guess she and Johnny Depp are perfectly fine now. They’ve always had a strange relationship (even before it officially began), so this is really no different from the usual weirdness. Maybe they’ll soon make a hundred babies like Johnny once boasted. Johnny is 51 now, but maybe he has the energy to deal with diapers.
Amber has a new interview with E! Online to talk about women in Hollywood. She says this punk-rock role is a well-rounded one, unlike most parts. I can’t judge because I haven’t watched all of Amber’s filmography (only Syrup, All of the Boys Love Mandy Lane, The Rum Diary, and some horror remake). She played tough-yet-sexy in all of those movies. Hollywood promotes that conceit. If you’re a tough woman, you also have to flash some flesh. Amber always wanted to be the next Jolie, so she gravitated towards films where she played “hot girl with triceps wearing a tank top.” Now Amber talks about being frustrated with her decade-long run in Hollywood, which hasn’t led to more substantial roles:
On finding less sexy roles: “It’s been what I’ve fought for since the first day on the scene. Superficial is far less interesting primarily because it’s the result of things that are out of my control, so it’s independent of one’s character and how one looks. It can help define one’s character but looks in and of themselves are not the result of any hard work, bravery, substance, etc. I fought really hard to find roles that weren’t defined by their sexuality.”
You can’t be taken seriously if you’re sexy: “I’ve been in this business for 12 years or something and it’s incredibly frustrating to be able to just now be trusted or given roles like this because this industry’s very hard on women, because you’re constantly asked to choose between one of two archetypes: sexy or not. And within the ‘not,’ you perhaps can acquire for yourself a few different traits, but they’re going to be severely limited. The story’s not going to be about you. In the former, it’s completely unfulfilling work to undergo and it’s not fulfilling for an audience to watch. It’s incredible frustrating that a system is in place where you have to choose one or the other. I should not have to choose to be taken seriously or to be beautiful. I finally get to do a role without any of that sh*t, it’s about a character and her issues and her problems and her journey.”
The industry’s problem: “I try to find ways to make my characters stronger, independent. I’ve always chosen strong women, smart women, I’ve always chosen to protect myself as best I can, but the really f***ed up thing is that nobody has any incentive in this industry to invest in something other than what can be seen in you or what’s the easiest thing to do.”
[From E! Online
I do feel for Amber because she describes the plight of many actresses. She nabs the “sexy sidekick” or “object of desire” roles. Victory is bittersweet. Amber recently entered her late 20s, and she’s finally been named a rising star. She’s still appearing alongside 60-year-old “action dudes” like Kevin Costner. Leading men and younger love interests are completely typical of Hollywood standards. Amber has room to complain about those silly stereotypes. At the same time … she needs to realize how she reinforces those standards in real life by marrying a decades-older guy like Johnny Depp.
Amber also previously complained about superficiality as she posed for a sex-ay shoot. Amber’s a little shortsided, but perhaps she’s taking after a certain someone who whined about how actor-musicians make him “sick” as he formed a rock supergroup with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry.

Here’s one of Kim Kardashian’s latest fashion failures. These photos are from the Variety ‘Power of Women’ luncheon on Friday in NYC. Kim’s cream look is Narciso Rodriguez, with Giambattista Valli shoes. Ordinarily, I adore Narciso Rodriguez’s designs. They almost always look clean, fresh and deceptively simple. Thank God we always count on Kim to make high fashion look p0rn-chic.
Kim and her siblings were actually out in force on social media on Friday night to show their support for Bruce Jenner during and after his 20/20 special with Diane Sawyer. Kim posted photos of herself and Bruce with the messages, “Love is the courage to live the truest, best version of yourself. Bruce is love. I love you Bruce. #ProudDaughter” and “It might not always be easy but we support you no matter what! Your honesty has opened the doors for others to be courageous and live an authentic life! #respect #hero #family.”
Kim also discusses Bruce in a pre-taped interview with Matt Lauer, which will air on Monday. You can see a clip of the interview here, but all Kim says that she and the whole family “really support” Bruce and “I think there is still an adjustment and there’s family therapy, and we’re really close.”
As I said, Kim wasn’t the only one of Bruce’s kids to post something on social media – even The Sock One tweeted something (Rob called Bruce a “role model”). Meanwhile, Khloe tweeted: “Just finished watching the #BruceJennerInterview with the family. Bruzer, I’m soooo proud of you! Dads really are heroes [sic]” and she posted this amazing Instagram too:

Sporting a colorful new ‘do, Lizzie McGuire alum Hilary Duff stepped out for breakfast with son Luca, 3, in West Hollywood, Calif. on Saturday (April 25).
Donning casual duds and shades, the Younger actress, 27, was all smiles amid reports that she is currently facing a custody battle with her estranged husband, former hockey star Mike Comrie.
Reportedly, Comrie recently filed his divorce response in a Los Angeles Superior Court, and he is asking for joint legal and physical custody of their preschooler.
This raises the question if a possible custody battle is brewing, since Duff’s initial file asked for primary custody of their son, with visitation rights for Comrie.
As well, Comrie, 34, asked that their assets and property be divided based on the terms of their prenuptial agreement.
After five years of marriage, the couple announced their separation in January 2014, and the actress-singer filed for divorce in February 2015.
“They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other’s lives,” Duff’s rep said in a separation statement, calling the split amicable. “They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time.”
