Here are some photos from last night’s Elle Style Awards in London. This is Elle UK, the same magazine that trolls the Dragonflies about Tom Hiddleston’s possible wedding and baby announcements (he’s not getting married nor is he having a baby, as far as I know). Much like the American “fashion awards” shows, pretty much everyone who shows up gets an award. But there were some interesting fashion moments too. My favorite (I KNOW!) was actually Cara Delevingne in this black Vivienne Westwood. Shockingly conservative dress for Cara, and her hair and makeup are on-point. What in the world?! Cara also won Breakthrough Actress. For some reason.

Lindsay Lohan came out because she’s SO SICK you guys. She had to hospitalized and everything. Now she’s back to being crackie at random events. I would imagine she wasn’t even really invited to the Elle event, but they didn’t feel like turning her away. The fishnet panel on this gown is… odd.

Taylor Swift won woman of the year at the Elle UK awards. Her dress is straight off the runway, a Julien Macdonald Fall 2015 gown. I feel like she doesn’t do dark green all that often? This feels unusual. And it’s a good look for her too. I especially like her hair.

Jourdan Dunn – I don’t know, maybe Versace? Perhaps. I feel like she should have gone either/or with this look. Either she shows off her girls OR her legs, not both.

Diane Kruger won Elle’s Film Actress of the Year. She wore this petal pink Chanel spring 2015 Couture. She’s Diane and she almost always kills it. Love it.

wenn22236187

Alexa Chung in what looks like a sister-wife dress. I’m consistently amazed that she’s considered a fashionista or style icon because almost every time I see her on a red carpet, she’s dressed like an overgrown toddler.

I might have saved the best for last! Here’s Gwendoline Christie wearing a CAPE designed by her boyfriend Giles Deacon. If you’re over 6 feet tall and you’re known for kicking ass and taking named on Game of Thrones, you get your boyfriend to design special capes just for you.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely

Rosie Huntington-Whitely led the charge for this group of attendees at the Elle Style Awards. Rosie wore an Anthony Vacarello dress with Jimmy Choo shoes. I’ve warmed to Rosie lately. She stopped trying to be an actress and went back to her strong point, selling clothes. She really works this outfit. Big hair and a leather skirt with a semi-sheer, pleated mullet? No problem. Rosie sells it with a perfectly fierce expression.

I wanted to make Olivia Wilde the headliner for this post, but she clearly isn’t into this event. Olivia’s wearing an H&M Conscious Collection dress, which looks like a threadbare t-shirt with a random, thrift-shop skirt.

Olivia Wilde

Ellie Goulding loves neutral colors, which usually wash her out. This Alberta Ferretti dress with a jacquard overlay is pretty boring, but Ellie still looks good.

Ellie Goulding

Maggie Gyllenhaal wore a salmon colored Roland Mouret dress with Salvatore Ferragamo pumps. The dress isn’t awful, but it could use more tailoring in the top half.

Rebel Wilson won the Rising Star award at this event. I don’t have an ID on this piece, but the red-and-pink clash works surprisingly well.

Rebel Wilson

Pixie Geldof kept things not-so classy with “no hassle” written all over her chest. The black minidress would have been cute without the rack captions.

Calvin Harris is good looking guy, but his jacket looks a size too small.

Lily Cole went with a pepto-bismol, mulleted dress that feels like an afterthought.

MORE March 2015 Cover_edited-1

I know Téa Leoni doesn’t get too much interest around here, but I like to talk about her and I like to read her interviews. She has a good head on her shoulders, she has thoughtful things to say, and she’s not looking for fame and admiration like so many other celebrities. The last time we covered an interview with Téa she revealed that she loves to fly fish and fry up what she catches. We also heard that she’s dating her onscreen husband, Tim Daly.

Téa, 49, covers the March issue of More Magazine. The editorial is beautiful and looks like an ad for a luxury brand. Téa is promoting Madam Secretary, which returns March 1 to CBS to finish its first season and has already been renewed for second. As you know, Téa’s divorce from David Duchovny was finalized last year. They have two children, Madelaine, 15, and Kyd, 12. Téa. Téa admits that things got messy in her marriage, but she doesn’t get into details and she maintains that she loves David. Téa got candid with More about her career, children and her grounded outlook on life. As usual, this was a joy to read:

On misogyny and ageism in Hollywood:
[Brett] Ratner (her director on the 2000 film The Family Man)—whom I really like, by the way—was going around telling people that despite my age, I was ‘still doable.’ I think I was 34 then. And he was something like 28. I asked myself, ‘Do I still care about that?’ And at that time, I did. I felt that pressure to be ‘doable.’ It was the meanest thought I’d had for myself in a long time.

Thankfully, I’ve moved past all that. Chasing youth is a war I’m not going to win. It’s not like I’m thrilled to turn around and catch my can in the mirror, but I can see now how much of my happiness could be a victim of trying to stay young and desirable. And it feels like peace and victory to be relieved of that burden.

On her early career:
I had one long thread of shitty advice throughout my career, which was, ‘You have to do this in order to do that.’ So I did some projects that were lacking. I was ‘the chick of the flick.’

On her industry reputation as a “Pass-a-dena”:
For every project I do, there are a lot I don’t. People have asked if I’m lazy. In a way it’s flattering. But the truth is, if you’re going to pull me away from my children, I need to have some connection to the work.”

On what’s more important to her than an Oscar:
People tell me I’ve never really made it. They say, ‘You don’t have an Oscar.’ There’s not an accolade in Hollywood that could replace time with my kids. At this stage of my life, it’s not about contentment. Or appealing to 20-year-olds. Or awards. It’s about finding something more. As I tell my daughter, ‘Hear your voice first.’

On living in the now
Now when the kids walk in, I’m listening to them and just loving them. I’m getting much better at noticing that life is good. That everything passes. I tell my children that. Think about the now, not the then or later. That’s the art.

On her ex, David Duchovny
On occasion, I want to throttle him. But in any real relationship with someone you love, that’s true.

[From More Magazine, received via email]

Her advice is simple and yet poignant: don’t chase fame or youth, live in the moment and be present with the people in your life. I didn’t realize that actors judged each other by their awards, but I guess there are judgmental people everywhere, and there are even those who will say it to your face. Téa doesn’t care, she’d rather be fishing or hanging out with her kids and she’ll tell you about it. She’ll also tell you about directors being creeps. I bet she has worse stories to tell.

Here are some photos of Taylor Swift in London yesterday, going into the BBC Radio offices. There were rumors that Swifty was invited to the VF Oscar party this year, but she didn’t attend because she didn’t want to run into Katy Perry, her nemesis. I think it’s far more likely that Swifty was invited but she was in NYC and then London, and she didn’t want to just fly into LA to party. She was in London for last night’s ELLE Style Awards, plus maybe (?) the BRIT Awards, which are this evening. Taylor’s not performing, but she might be attending and presenting, I guess. She’s also doing a lot of press – she’s done several radio interviews over the past few days, and some of the quotes are interesting. Some highlights:

She thinks Ed Sheeran is scrappy: “Ed’s scrappier that’s for sure! Are you talking about in a fight? Ed could beat anyone in a fight, just because he’s like a little street urchin! But only sensitive when writing songs, but in a conversation about competition or anything – scrappy!”

But Sam Smith will win all the BRITs: “If we’re talking about the BRITs it’s Sam’s year, he’s having an amazing year, I love him. Ed’s one of my best friends so I want him to win something too. I think they’re both gonna win stuff right?!”

She’s anxious: “Also my reality, even when I’m not dreaming, is peppered with lots of anxiety. There’s a dream that, any time I’m ‘paparazzid’ out, which is a lot, I have dreams that night that they’re in my room taking pictures of me while I’m sleeping! So I’ll find myself smiling in my sleep, because I think there are people in my room taking pictures of me. Not smiling because I’m happy, smiling because I think people are taking pictures of me!”

Her feelings about Beyonce: “I love her more than the normal amount. I try really hard not to like let [my fandom] get creepy. I just really like channel it into a joyous admiration and appreciation.”

[From MTV & E! News]

At one point, when she was talking about her anxiety about paparazzi sneaking into her room to take photos of her, the host joked that it must be horrifying for whoever is in bed with her. Swifty said: “No-ones ever… it’s horrifying for the cats…! No one’s ever in my bedroom with me. Don’t believe what you read!” Do you believe that? When Karlie Kloss sleeps over, Karlie gets her own room? Karlie doesn’t sleep in the same bed as Swifty? What’s the point of having a BFF if you’re not staying up in the same bed, gossiping and eating potato chips? As for her nightmares… eh, you can’t control your subconscious, even if Tay-Tay does love to set up some paparazzi photo shoots.

And finally, here’s something nice: Swifty donated $50,000 to New York City schools – it was part of the proceeds from her song “Welcome to New York,” and she had promised to make a donation when she became New York’s Global Welcome Ambassador.

Congratulations are in order for Naya Rivera and Ryan Dorsey.

The Glee actress, 28, and her husband are expecting their first child, she announced on her Tumblr account.

“Surprise! We’re having a baby! Ryan and I feel so blessed and can’t wait to welcome the newest member of our family,” Naya wrote, adding a cute “bun in the oven” photo.

The mom-to-be also took to Twitter with the exciting news.

“First comes love… then comes marriage… then comes…” she wrote.

shakira-second-pregnancy

Grammy Award-winning singer Shakira and her beau, football star Gerard Piqué, are proud parents to sons Milan, 2, and Sasha, 3 weeks. The A-list couple are using their celebrity platform, as well as the birth of their second child, to do some good.

Teaming up with UNICEF to throw a “World Baby Shower,” the Colombian pop superstar blogs for Baby Center and shares why it was so important for her and Gerard to support those less fortunate.

“As the time of my son’s birth grew closer, I was full of anticipation,” Shakira writes, referring to her first pregnancy with Milan. “Nonetheless, with every gift that was given to my son through the generosity of family or friends, I thought of mothers who couldn’t count on even the most basic resources for their children in those first crucial stages of life, who often don’t have access to vaccines, clean water, or even a proper birthing environment. For these mothers, having a baby, however happy an event, is often a risk to their own health or their newborn’s.”

The singer talks about partnering with UNICEF “to throw a World Baby Shower that asked for gifts to be sent to places where they are not only appreciated, but where they can actually save lives.” She adds that the positive response to their efforts were “overwhelming and emotional.”

“With our second son, we wanted to take it one step further, and invite other parents to host their own showers that help benefit other babies and mothers living in extreme poverty,” she continues. “The feeling of sharing a happy event with others by helping those less fortunate is profoundly rewarding, and made the birth of our own child that much more sweet.”

As for the second time around, Shakira admits she felt much less stress.

“This time around, during my second pregnancy, like many mothers, I felt more confident,” she writes. “The questions that kept me up at night with my first now seem more manageable and I have more perspective about their importance in the bigger picture.”

“What I never want to forget, or stop questioning, is why every child and mother doesn’t enjoy that same sense of security,” she adds. “My hope is that by the time my sons are adults, they can look back and see how even small efforts can have a big impact when multiplied—and that they take the time to tackle the big questions of their time too.”

Shakira has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2003. In 2013 she joined forces with UNICEF to host her first World Baby Shower, which raised 3.8 tons of therapeutic food packets and nearly 100,000 polio vaccines for children living in extreme poverty.

When I reviewed Kingsman: The Secret Service I singled out a tasteless joke as a blot on an otherwise enjoyable movie. In the case of Hot Tub Time Machine 2, a horrendous joke makes an already bad movie vile. There’s nothing fun or funny about Hot Tub Time Machine 2, a movie so awful that e…
