Here are some assorted photos of Eddie Remayne and his wife Hannah Bagshawe at the Oscars, the Oscar parties and at LAX yesterday, leaving LA as soon as the Oscar festivities were over. Hannah hasn’t been on his arm for every LA event, and he’s said several times that she has a job and her own schedule, that she doesn’t drop everything to be his plus-one at every occasion. That’s a good thing, in my opinion. It makes Eddie seem like he went for a woman of substance, a woman who prioritizes her work and having a career.

As for Eddie’s amazing Oscar win, as I said on Oscar night, I was all for it, but there is currently some backlash and online muttering about it. I ended up watching Birdman and The Theory of Everything within a 24 hour period (thanks CB!) and I really thought that in a head-to-head race between Michael Keaton and Eddie, Eddie should win. Don’t get me wrong, Keaton’s performance was very good. He was actually the best part of the film, alongside Ed Norton. But I thought Birdman was such a stupid movie, mostly because the story annoyed me and the “unreliable narrator” crap made me roll my eyes. While TTOE didn’t break the mold with storytelling, Eddie’s performance as Stephen Hawking was incredible and remarkable. It was in the vein of Daniel Day Lewis in My Left Foot (a performance that won Day-Lewis his first Oscar too).

Throughout it all, Eddie had the blessing of the towering icon he was playing as well – Stephen Hawking liked the film and publicly complimented the film and Eddie personally (Hawking is said to have flirted with Felicity Jones too). After Eddie’s win, Hawking wrote this on his Facebook:

Congratulations to Eddie Redmayne for winning an ?#?Oscar? for playing me in The Theory of Everything Movie. Well done Eddie, I’m very proud of you. –SH

[From Hawking’s Facebook]

Aw.

As for what’s next for Eddie, he’s currently working on The Danish Girl, the true story of “Danish artists Einar Wegener and his wife Gerda.” Eddie stars with Alicia Vikander and… Amber Heard?

Intro for February 24, 2015

Dear Gossips,

The internet blew up on Friday before Oscar weekend because there was a rumour about Prince Hot Harry and Emma Watson. Definitely a Gossip Genie moment.

Supposedly, when Harry heard that Emma is now single, he emailed her to say he wanted to get to know her and they went out…

We had some requests for MOAR Jennifer Aniston stuff, so here you go. The Aniston vs. ScarJo post yesterday was one of our biggest for the Oscar coverage, so I guess you guys still want to talk about it? Sure. As I said yesterday, I actually liked Aniston’s Versace dress. It was a relief to see her in something lighter, less prom-y and less “The Widow Pitt.” Was the dress super-flattering? Eh. But I was also thankful that her boobs weren’t falling out of her dress, you know?

Anyway, the above Instagram is from Vanity Fair – Mark Seliger took exclusive portraits of people partying at the VF Oscar party. I enjoy the fact that whenever Aniston is being photographed by a professional, her go-to move is to play with her hair. Classic Aniston! You can see the VF Instagram here – there are lots of great portraits.

The VF portrait wasn’t JustJen’s only social media appearance at the Oscars. Jennifer Lopez was also posting photos all night, and she took a selfie with JustJen in the background. It’s pretty cute:

What else? Let’s see… my body language analysis of Justin and Jennifer says that Jennifer is still very into him. Justin feels… I’m not sure. I couldn’t swear to it, but in some of the photos from the VF party especially, it looked like Justin was slightly embarrassed or just not that into Jennifer. Maybe I’m reading too much into it. But Jen did seem “extra” affectionate, like she was overcompensating.

And lastly, Reese Witherspoon goosed Jennifer on the Oscars red carpet.

Tyga

Your beauty never goes unnoticed. One of the best/dopest person in my life.

A photo posted by Tyga / T-Raww (@kinggoldchains) on Feb 20, 2015 at 7:37am PST

This is a photo of Kylie Jenner from Tyga’s Instagram. He posted it on Friday, which was a few days after Amber Rose called him out for dating 17-year-old Kylie. Tyga hasn’t gotten any younger (he’s 25). His intentions remain clear with the “Your beauty never goes unnoticed” caption.

Last Tuesday, Tyga denied being anything other than friends with Kylie. He blamed cultural stereotypes for the rumor and deflected with some nonsense about black vs. white friendships. The general consensus is that Tyga lied his tush off. He’s trying to protect himself from statutory rape charges. On Thursday, Kanye West pretty much confirmed that Tyga and Kylie were together. Kanye made a gross statement too: “I think he got in early. I think he was smart.

Tyga’s team is reportedly concerned (as they should be). According to Radar, they’ve told him to (publicly) back off from Kylie. She’s reportedly distraught over the situation:

Kim Kardashian’s youngest sister, Kylie Jenner, is having a very bad week! On Tuesday, her boyfriend, Tyga, publicly said they weren’t dating. Now, sources tell RadarOnline.com can reveal, his management team has told him to distance himself even further from the reality starlet.

Jenner, 17, has been “crying all week,” an insider told Radar. “She is afraid that Tyga is going to break-up with her.”

And it’s with good reason, according to the source. “Tyga’s advisers have told him to not be spotted out in public with Kylie doing anything romantic, including holding hands, or kissing,” the source said. “Tyga has tried to reassure Kylie that they are solid, but she has her doubts.”

[From Radar Online]

I think this story sounds authentic. Teenagers are dramatic, and Kylie’s definitely one of them. She needs parental guidance but won’t find it in Kris Jenner, who is content to let her youngest daughter post photoshopped “belfies” like big sister Kim does.

Oh, and Chris Brown weighed in on team Tyga. I guess Breezy had to join Yeezy with another round of grossness. Chris told Hot 97 FM, “Whatever decision my man wanna make, I’ma rock with him. I ain’t gonna fight none of his battles, but it’s just like whatever decision you make. We see eye-to-eye on a lot of things, so I feel like I’ll just tell him ‘Aye man, if you was dating some regular weak chick, you wouldn’t be talked about, nobody would care.’” You can hear Chris’ ridiculous interview here. Ugh.

87th Annual Oscars Red Press Room

At the end of her Oscar’s speech accepting Best Supporting Actress, Patricia Arquette made an impassioned plea for wage equality. It was rousing, she got Jennifer Lopez and Meryl Streep all excited, and she started a conversation about women’s rights. Her comments were particularly relevant to her industry in light of the Sony hack which revealed that Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams were paid much less in backend profits for American Hustle than their male costars. This is patently unfair, but we’re talking about large sums of money. Neither one of these women are suffering. Still, this is a fight that we can all support as women, and highly paid women should be paid as much, and offered as many advancements, as men. Full stop.

In her comments backstage following her win, Arquette kind of went off the rails a bit. She implied that LGBTQ rights advocates and people of color had not supported feminist and women’s issues to date and that it was time they did. Here’s some of what she said backstage, and you can see the video above. (That part comes in at 1:40.)

So the truth is, even though we sort of feel like we have equal rights in America, right under the surface, there are huge issues that are applied that really do affect women and it’s time for all the women in America and all the men that love women, and all the gay people, and all the people of color that we’ve all fought for to fight for us now.

[via E! Online]

Maybe Arquette was all worked up from her win, and maybe she had a bad personal experience with friends not supporting her cause or something, and she’s overgeneralizing. That’s possible, and plus this is one of the most emotional moments of her life, she may have said some things she would regret when all the adrenaline dies down. Only on Twitter later, Arquette doubled down. Here are a few of her tweets on the matter and there’s much more on her Twitter feed.

I have long been an advocate for the rights of the #LBGT community. The question is why aren’t you an advocate for equality for ALL women?

— Patricia Arquette (@PattyArquette) February 23, 2015

Wage equality will help ALL women of all races in America. It will also help their children and society.

— Patricia Arquette (@PattyArquette) February 23, 2015

Guess which women are the most negatively effected in wage inequality? Women of color. #Equalpay for ALL women. Women stand together in this

— Patricia Arquette (@PattyArquette) February 23, 2015

I don’t care if people are pissed The truth is that wage inequality adversely effects women. pic.twitter.com/5tMjJXgbGz

— Patricia Arquette (@PattyArquette) February 24, 2015

My children are not living below the poverty line. That does’t mean I don’t care about the kids who are. DO YOU? Then help their moms.

— Patricia Arquette (@PattyArquette) February 24, 2015

This is a great cause and she’s right. Women make 77% of what men do, and it’s time that changed. I don’t think she should have called out the LGBT community or minorities for not supporting feminism, though. As Kaiser explained to me, she could have framed it as an issue of everyone fighting these important causes together, a kind of “Yes AND” approach instead of making it sound like we need to prioritizing our issues over others. We can be loud and visible without trying to one-up anyone and we can all fight together for each other’s basic rights.

Meanwhile the hacks at Fox news, particularly Stacey Dash, are trying to call out Arquette for daring to bring up this issue, which they don’t consider relevant. I’m not going to get into all that except to say that facts never get in the way of opinions at Fox News.

Just before New Year’s Eve, Jeremy Renner’s wife of 10 months, Sonni Pecheco, filed for divorce. She cited “fraud” in the divorce filing, and claimed Jeremy had “stolen” her passport, Social Security card and all of her important documents. It seemed like things were going to get dirty, but Team Renner maintained that it was all about their daughter and he would fight tooth and nail to retain custody. Several weeks ago, Sonni made an another damaging filing – she claimed Renner’s home was “unsafe” because he has guns (and thus, he should not have custody of Ava Berlin), and Sonni asked for lots of money to maintain her lifestyle. E! News now says that Sonni’s requests for financial support are falling flat with Renner:

Jeremy Renner doesn’t have much to say to Sonni Pacheco’s divorce demands other than…Yeah…we had a prenup. In response to court documents filed earlier this month by Pacheco in which she detailed the actor’s earnings versus her own and requested more money, Renner filed a simple response Friday.

His legal camp checked off the box asking the court to terminate Pacheco’s right to spousal support, adding, “Under the terms of the Parties’ Prenuptial Agreement, Petitioner has waived the right to receive spousal support.”

Along with “miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects” and money Renner made before, during and after their barely 10-month marriage, “there are additional separate property assets and obligations of each party as mandated by the Parties’ Premarital Agreement,” Renner’s filing continues. The terms of said prenup, of course, remain confidential.

A hearing has been scheduled for April 1 to deal with the exes’ various issues, which also include Pacheco wanting primary physical custody of their nearly 2-year-old daughter Ava with visitation rights for Renner, while he has stated that he wants joint custody all around. Lawyers for both have not responded to requests for comment.

[From E! News]

Lord, there is no love lost between these two. My take is still that Sonni does seem to want a payoff of some kind, and Renner should consider giving her a lump payment just to make her go away and keep the peace. I think Renner and Pacheco probably should share custody of their daughter, but Sonni is probably threatening to take the girl to Canada and never come back. In which case… Renner was actually pretty smart to marry Sonni, because he’ll have more custodial rights as an ex-husband rather than a loosey-goosey, ill-defined “baby-daddy”. Of course he made her sign a pre-nup! But he should still pay her, especially if she’s threatening to make this worse.

Here are more photos of Mr. and Mrs. Otterbatch at the Vanity Fair Oscar party on Sunday. Considering you guys can’t get enough Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter-Cumberbatch (God, I hope she doesn’t change her name), I thought I would just serve up some odds and ends from the Batchy Oscars. As I said yesterday, I don’t believe that Benedict was upset at all that he lost. Maybe he was upset a month ago, when he saw his chances slipping away, but he seemed to have made his peace with it. He even seemed like he was having a good time after the Oscars – at the VF Oscar party, he looked looser than he’s been in months.

While on the carpet, going into the Vanity Fair party, Benedict stopped and spoke to iTV’s Ross King. King said, “You must be shattered!” referring to Bendy’s Oscar loss. Benedict seemed sort of drunk already and he replied, “No, not at all… Why would I be shattered? Now I get to dance! I’m saving my poison up for now. This is what it’s all about.” When asked what kind of dancing, Benedict said: “I’m not gonna—that’s for me and my fiancée—my wife, I should say.” So, Benedict forgot that he married Sophie?

I think Eddie Redmayne made that mistake a few times during his campaign too – when he and Hannah were engaged, he kept referring to Hannah as his “girlfriend” and then once they were married, he was still calling her the wrong thing. It happens, people!

Inside the VF Oscar party, Benedict apparently enjoyed a pile of french fries whilst deep in conversation with Joan and Jackie Collins. Which is just a spectacular image, right? Variety says he also “gently rubbed the belly of his pregnant wife.” And he spent time with JJ Abrams and refused to speak to one of his groupies. Bendy apparently told JJ that he didn’t know the sex of the baby yet.

And finally, I didn’t write about this over the weekend because I was sort of hoping we might get some of these photos, but they’re mega-exclusive. A few days before the Oscars, Benedict and Sophie took a roadtrip up the Pacific Coast Highway and they posed for lovey-dovey paparazzi photos the entire trip – go here to see. This is pretty much a straight-up photoshoot. Sponsored by Jaguar. Remember, Bendy does have a Jaguar contract. And now Sophie is being used to shill for that as well!! Last thing: who makes out with your partner while you’re pumping gas?

I’ve always thought that Dev Patel was an attractive guy. Not really “hot” or “sexy” but that’s mainly because he reminds me strongly of one of my Indian cousins. I especially like the beard that Dev has been rocking lately – it makes him look more like a wild man/poet and less like a goofy sweetheart, you know? Well, Dev is promoting The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and he ended up chatting with The Guardian – go here to read the full piece. Dev talks about his now ex-girlfriend Freida Pinto, staying grounded, and how much it hurt when Mario Testino questioned (to Dev’s face) how he could actually be dating a beautiful girl like Freida. Some highlights:

Whether he still feels like an outsider: “All the time. I’m never happier and more alive than when I’m on set. I love it, it consumes me and I feel more confident. But I was never cool.”

Dev’s Mario Testino story: “I remember going to this one Burberry show, and it was exciting. They’ve always been very kind to me and, even as a gangly guy, I felt I was rocking their suits. So when I was invited to one of the fashion shows in London, I went. Even though I had this preconceived notion – ‘I’m not going to fit in with this crowd, it’s going to be intimidating’. I was sitting there, and this fellow says, ‘Are you the one dating Freida Pinto?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I guess.’” He gives an embarrassed shrug. “And then he says: ‘Why? How? Why is she dating you? She’s so beautiful.’ And I say, ‘Yeah. She is!’ And then he says: ‘But you’re so, ugh, so normal-looking.’” Patel looks upset even now. It turns out it was the photographer Mario Testino.

His relationship with ex-GF Freida Pinto: “We are incredibly close. She’s just a really generous, patient human being who has been one of the most impactful people on my life. A lot of my motivation has come from her, from being with her and knowing her.”

Why did they break up? “No. I can’t. I’m sorry. I can’t say.”

He doesn’t Google himself: “It’s a very dangerous thing and confidence is very fragile – mine is. I wouldn’t dare play with it now because it’s so essential to what I do. I made the mistake of reading the papers early on, when we did Slumdog.”

The make up of his school: “It was very mixed, 50-50, maybe even more coloured people.”

When asked about his use of “coloured”: “Any slip of the tongue in this job is huge,” he says, a reference to Benedict Cumberbatch, who attracted criticism for discussing the difficulties facing “coloured actors” in a television interview – presumably having meant to say “people of colour”. “His intentions are good,” Patel argues. “He shouldn’t have been burned for it.”

[From The Guardian]

The rest of the interview is pretty good too – he talks about being anti-social media, buying his first house in Hollywood and how he can’t even go to family weddings anymore because of the internal politics of Indian families (I feel you, bro). I honestly never realized that Dev was so sensitive and slightly neurotic – I like him even more now! As for his use of the word “colored,” again, I have to think that people in the UK use it differently. They don’t have the same linguistic history with “colored” that we have in America. Still, let’s just use “people of color.”

It just occurred to me as I looked through these photos of Duchess Kate in Stoke-on-Trent last week that Our Kate hasn’t had a “Marilyn Moment” in months. There have been a couple of touch-and-go moments when a breeze hit one of her dresses at an inopportune time, but no full-on Marilyn Moments or flashes of any kind in several months now. Her hemlines also seem to be longer for this pregnancy, which is a welcome relief.

Anyway, you guys know I love a good royal conspiracy. So I enjoyed this Daily Mail story from the weekend, only I can’t really come up with a good conspiracy for it. Apparently, two of Will and Kate’s trusted employees abruptly quit working for the Cambridges so they could go back to being employed by the Queen. It’s that weirdest thing?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are hunting for new domestic staff for their country home after their housekeeper and gardener suddenly decided to quit. It remains unclear why Amy Wood and her husband Colin handed in their notice after less than five months at Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

The couple started working for William and Kate last September when restoration work was being completed on the Georgian mansion. They had previously been trusted employees at Sandringham House two miles away, and it is thought that they will go back to work for the Queen there.

William and pregnant Kate moved into the 18th Century hall with their baby George in October after it was given to them by the Queen. Mrs Wood, 34, looked after the ten-bedroom house while her 37-year-old husband worked in the garden. He had been doing landscaping and planting work at the hall. The couple lived with their five-year-old son in a cottage in the grounds, so they were on hand to help when needed.

Locals were shocked to hear this week that they were quitting their posts and moving from the hall, which is said to be visited by Kate’s mother Carole on a very regular basis. A villager said: ‘Nobody knows why they are going – but I can’t imagine it was a decision they took lightly. It is the talk of the estate that they should be giving up their prestige jobs after such a short time. They appeared happy working there and it seemed that they got on well with William and Kate, who must be disappointed to be losing them. Amy is a brilliant housekeeper, while Colin is a great gardener. They are both discreet and would never talk about their work for the Royals.’

Another villager said: ‘It looks as if William and Kate will have to find another housekeeper and gardener. I guess they’ll want to get staff in place before the new baby arrives.’

Last night a spokesman for Buckingham Palace declined to comment on ‘private staffing matters’.

[From The Daily Mail]

It’s interesting, right? Is it just me or do Will & Kate have a pretty high turnover in general though? I think some royals keep shuffling staff in and out, but the Queen likes staff loyalty and she likes long-standing employees. And seriously, the Woods were only working for Will and Kate for what? Less than six months, and half the time Kate and George weren’t even at Anmer Hall, they were at Kate’s parents’ house or Kensington Palace. My conspiracy theory: the Cooks worked for Will & Kate over the holidays, when the entire Middleton clan came to stay for a lengthy holiday. And that was it for the Cooks – they didn’t like the whole Middleton vibe.

Also: later this week, William is embarking on a six-day tour of Japan and China – go here to see his itinerary. I think Kate was originally sort-of planned to make this trip with him, months ago. But she’s pregnant and her doctors probably don’t want her to travel and face the stress of a tour. I wonder if Kate will be out and about while William is away?

Joan Rivers

Joan Rivers was noticeably absent from the In Memoriam Powerpoint reel at Sunday’s Academy Awards, as was fellow comedian and Broadway actress Elaine Stritch. Rivers seemed like a particularly egregious snub, because she originated and popularized red carpet fashion commentary, and was a staple on the Oscars carpet for nearly two decades.

There have been many theories as to why Rivers wasn’t included while so many other lesser-known people working behind the scenes were. I tend to think that Joan’s “bitchy outsider” status followed her in death and that she was somewhat deliberately, pointedly ignored. Time Magazine says it’s political, of course, but they claim it’s not just about Joan not being a member of the Academy or daring to criticize people in power. Time points us to the NY Times article from a few years ago that describes how hard it is to advocate that a deceased family member or friend be honored at the Oscars. It involves actual campaigning, and there’s no way to know who decides or what the process is for deciding, because it’s all clouded in secrecy. They make it sound like a secret society. Here’s Time explaining this:

An Academy spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter that yes, Rivers was one of the many people who must be left out in any given year, but that she was included in a remembrance gallery on the Oscars website. However, Rivers (like Elaine Stritch, another comedian who was missed by many viewers) is also absent from the official Academy list of members who died in 2014. Though Rivers, who was better known for her TV work than for film roles, had plenty of big-screen credits, from Space Balls to The Smurfs, Academy membership is not automatic, so it’s entirely possible that she was not part of the group; there is no official, public list of members.

Still, an in-depth 2013 investigation by the New York Times into what goes into the making of the Oscars memorial reel — which has been a feature of the telecast since 1994 — revealed that inclusion or exclusion from the montage is not so simple as “members in, non-members out.”

For one thing, non-members are eligible for inclusion, though positive involvement with the organization always helps. (Some conspiracy theorists guessed that Rivers’ acid tongue on the red carpet might have tipped the scales against her.) For another, it’s clear that, though the committee that makes the calls is anonymous, even death isn’t the end of the Hollywood publicity race. Attempting to get a client onto that list can be the last act of PR goodwill for many a publicist.

In fact, that publicity race suggests one possible reason for the exclusion of a major name like Rivers or Stritch. The family and friends of a lesser-known Academy member may push hard to get their loved one on the memorial list, but those who speak for the most famous of the dead are less likely to think a campaign is necessary. It’s only on Oscars night that they learn the extra push might have helped.

[From Time]

This is yet another example of how insular and out of touch the Academy Awards are. The broadcast runs an hour and half to two hours too long, the jokes are tired and stale, and it’s a very white, old, privileged, insider club. If they don’t care about the ratings for the Oscars they can continue to produce this tired sh*t in which the politics overshadow the show, the nominees and the films. They’ve shown for years that they’re unwilling to change much other than switch out the hosts every year, to mixed success. (Billy Crystal hosted as recently as 2012 for God’s sake.) Less and less people are watching every year and this year had the lowest ratings in six years. That’s not due to Neil Patrick Harris by any stretch, it’s just the nature of the Oscars. They can’t even spare 3 seconds to honor the death of a comedian who brought them years of free publicity. If this wasn’t my job I would have watched the show the next day and fast forwarded through 3/4 of it. I absolutely love movies and celebrities, but even I find the Oscars tedious.

Joan’s daughter, Melissa, is reportedly hurt by the omission of her mom, but she issued a nice statement anyway. She wrote “It would have been nice, especially considering the impact she had on the awards season, but Cooperand I have been overwhelmed with support and love over my mom’s passing and we choose to focus on that.” Melissa also made a video tribute to her mom, which aired on E! before their red carpet coverage. You can see it here, it’s touching.

RIP Joan, we all remember you. Those stuffy a*holes tried to snub you, but we noticed. We won’t forget you.

The Academy didn’t include Joan Rivers its ‘Memoriam’ montage — but we made a card for her: http://t.co/kYqXgnhooX pic.twitter.com/PW7Swd6VdN
