Zelda Williams, 25, is speaking publicly for the first time since her father’s tragic suicide in August. I can’t believe it’s already been six months since Robin Williams passed. Zelda is working to continue her late father’s charity work, in particular his work with the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which provides adaptive devices and athletic opportunities to veterans and others who have limited mobility. This Friday Zelda will be presenting an award to the CAF and to her dad at the Noble Awards, which honor humanitarians. You can read more about Zelda’s work with the CAF on her Instagram. Her words really touched me. She wrote that she can’t compete in triathlons biking 44 miles like her dad did for the CAF from 1998 to 2009 but that ” she “will do everything else in my (decidedly less athletic) power to continue Dad’s legacy and support the charities he loved that I’ve watched first hand change thousands of lives.”
Zelda had an interview air on The Today Show this morning, conducted by Kate Snow. You can see the videos in two parts, below. Zelda impressed me so much, especially in light of some of the invasive questions Snow was asking. Zelda talked about how she’s grieving following the loss of her dad, and how she’s trying to move forward in her life. Zelda came across as vulnerable and honest but straightforward and practical. My heart went out to her after watching her interview. Here’s some of what she said.
Grieving for her dad
For me especially it’s going to take a lot of work to allow myself the fun happy life that I had.
On the outpouring of love for her dad
There was an enormous outpouring of love from every corner of the world… the side of him that people know and love and that is attached to their childhood is the characters that he had so much fun being and that’s what’s important. I do think that’s what a lot of people will hold on to… for the most part it’s nice to have just our private life be our private life.
She was asked if she ever wonders why her dad committed suicide
I don’t think there’s a point [to wonder why]. It’s not important to ask.
People want to know why her dad took his own life
Diseases are – until we find out exactly how they work, we don’t have an explanation. There’s no one I can offer. A lot of people who have been through it and lost someone… who have gone on to lead very full lives know that there’s no point questioning it and there’s no point blaming yourself or the world… it happened so you have to continue to live and manage.
On public acceptance of mental illness
One of the things that is changing that is wonderful is that people are starting to approach talking about illnesses that people can’t immediately see. I want people to be more accepting.
It was important for [my dad] for people to talk about important things. He didn’t like people feeling like the things that were hard for them, they should go through alone. That’s the big legacy for him.
On what people should remember about her dad
People should remember what they want to remember of him. Who am I to guide what their childhood memories are of watching his movie.
[From The Today Show, videos below]
A few of the questions Snow asked seemed too personal, and I hope that she cleared them all with Zelda ahead of time. You could see Zelda bristling at points, but she was composed and so well spoken. Zelda works as a voice over actress and has been going back to work recently. I’m surprised she’s not a writer. At one point she said that the public’s response to her dad’s death was “not something that’s even easy to put into words… as much as I love words and have a lot of faith in them.” She also revealed that she has a hummingbird tattoo on her hand, which she got to remind her of her dad every day. She said “Hummingbirds are fun and flighty and strange. It’s hard to keep them in one place and Dad was a bit like that. Keeping a conversation in one moment was impossible with him.” That’s the Robin we knew and loved, and it sounds like Zelda has so many more meaningful memories of her dad. Kudos to her for speaking out on his behalf and supporting the charities he loved.

What a lil’ cutie!
State of Affairs actress Katherine Heigl posted a precious video via Instagram. “Naleigh and I having a little post dinner @taylorswift dance party. Cause darlin I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream,” the actress, 36, captioned the video with 6-year-old daughter Naleigh.
Naleigh’s dad, musician Josh Kelley, Instagrammed a pic Wednesday of their little lady “getting her first fancy haircut!!!”
The Grey’s Anatomy alum reposted her hubby’s snap and followed up with a photo of Naleigh and her sister Adalaide, 2, showing off “the end result” of their haircuts.
“Both girls got their ‘dos done,” the proud mama wrote. “My pretty ladies!”
Josh went on to share another adorable image: “MORNING SNUGGLES WITH MOMMA BEAR!!!!”

I really thought we were going to go a day without a Benedict Cumberbatch story. Not so much. At least this one is nice… in the sense that Benedict did something genuinely nice, even though it was a really sad, tragic circumstance. A 14 year old girl named Eve Shepherd passed away, and Eve was apparently a HUGE Sherlock fan. The mourners at her funeral wore deerstalker hats. Benedict had heard about Eve’s passing (I don’t know if he was directly invited to her funeral or what), and he sent a short condolence note to her parents. The note was read at the funeral service.
Benedict Cumberbatch sent a touching message to a teenager’s funeral after hearing she was an avid Sherlock fan. The actor, who plays the detective in the BBC’s reimagining of the Arthur Conan Doyle character, wrote an open letter to the grieving family of 14-year-old Eve Shepherd recently. As hundreds of mourners – some in deerstalkers – celebrated her short life, the Oscar nominee said he was sorry he could not be there, but was filming a new series of the show she loved so much.
The 38-year-old’s moving words, which were read out at the packed funeral service, included: “I send my deepest sympathies to Eve’s family. To lose someone so young who fought for her health all her life must be beyond endurance. I hope they can take solace from the fact that she was clearly much loved and her support of our show is hugely appreciated and shall be remembered. I wish I could be there but sadly am filming the show she loved. God rest her soul. With all my love and sympathies, Benedict xxx.”
After Monday’s service for Eve, the procession left the church to the theme tune of the hit show.
[From Express]
It was a lovely note to write. Not to nitpick (who am I kidding?), but if the service was on Monday, Benedict wasn’t filming Sherlock then. He was recovering from the Oscars and Oscar parties and presumably continuing his California honeymoon-slash-Jaguar advertisement. I’m not saying Benedict should have dropped everything to go to the funeral, I’m just nit-picking about the wording of his note. Carry on!

What a handsome father-son duo!
Actor Ryan Phillippe shared a fun photo with 11-year-old son Deacon via Instagram Wednesday. “We got this – d takin us to the apple for pop’s promo n startup #SecretsandLies #Deedle,” the father-of-three, 40, captioned the image from the set of his upcoming ABC series, Secrets & Lies.
The following day, Ryan posted a photo alongside some Star Wars Stormtroopers.
“SQUAD GOALS ACHIEVED,” he captioned the cool shot.
In a series of pics, the actor shared some recent family photos on his Instagram page.
Despite their divorce, Ryan and Reese Witherspoon – who are also parents to 15-year-old daughter Ava – have maintained an amicable relationship while co-parenting their two children together.
“It’s a feeling out process,” Ryan said of co-parenting with Reese. “I think we’ve gotten to a really great place … It’s going well, and she’s happy and remarried, and our kids are incredible. I’m proud of the way we’ve handled it and who our little people are.”
The exes, who divorced after seven years of marriage in 2006, still spend time together as a family.
“She was just in New York doing press for Gone Girl and Wild and we got to meet up as a family and took a walk through Central Park with the kids, and it was funny — we were reminiscing then because we shot a lot of Cruel Intentions [there], so there we were with Ava and Deacon talking, and they were tripping out on the fact that we were there shooting a movie before they were even a thought in our minds,” he shared.
Reese is also mom to 2-year-old son Tennessee with husband Jim Toth, while Ryan is also dad to 3-year-old daughter Kai from his previous relationship with Alexis Knapp.

Earlier this month, Gawker published a really interesting essay called “Why Is South Sudan a Hellhole? Blame George Clooney”. The point of the essay was not that Clooney is a terrible person or anything, but that the Darfur genocide was a complicated geopolitical catastrophe which was made infinitely worse when Darfur became a cause célèbre and South Sudan was partitioned and given “independence.” The point of the essay was also that West should know by now that whenever we jump into these complicated situations without really understanding the facts on the ground, we make it worse. I’m not going to pretend I completely followed everything in the essay, because pretending I understand would be the same kind of mistake the world made.
Which brings me to Clooney’s latest. George cowrote (with John Prendergast and Akshaya Kumar) a New York Times op-ed about how the situation in Darfur/South Sudan – you can read it here. Summary: Darfur is still a hellhole. Sudan continues to attack the people of Darfur through literal scorched earth campaigns (burning villages to the ground, etc) and mass rape and torture. The point of the piece is “don’t forget about Darfur, it’s still terrible.”
While I think it’s noble for Clooney to still be committed to the people of Darfur – he’s paid for satellites to monitor’s Sudan’s activities for years – I also wonder if there’s a slightly superficial urge at work here. George is desperate to be taken seriously, of course, which is why he ended up married to Amal. George wants to be a bigger political player. So is it any surprise that the National Enquirer reports this week that George is looking for ways to “cement” his political credentials? A source claims: “George has big ambitions and aims to get into politics imminently. He wants to do more humanitarian work and hopes to join the Democrats’ 2016 election campaign.” The problem? A lot of people still see George as a boozy womanizer. The source also says, “Surprisingly, it’s an even money bet on what George likes better – alcohol or sex.” Yeah… that’s not a problem for a Democrat, you know?

Look out, Skrillex, you have some competition!
Lily Aldridge has been snapping plenty of pics lately and sharing them on Instagram. One of those pics you just have to see! Over the weekend, Lily snagged a picture of Caleb and their daughter Dixie making some music together. She captioned the photo:
“My twins hard at work”
Aww, this is just too cute!
I cannot get enough of The Pinocchio Butt. Whenever we have a sighting – and whenever some brave paparazzo manages to get a side or back view – I always post the photos. Khloe Kardashian was spotted out and about in LA yesterday, I guess going to her gym. This is what confuses me about Khloe – she’s very committed to her workout and she does that stupid “waist training” stuff to look smaller (I’m including a new photo below), but then she gets those MASSIVE ass implants. I know the Kardashian Klan isn’t afraid of some augmentation, but it just seems like Khloe should make up her mind: does she want to look smaller or curvier? Which is it?
Meanwhile, Page Six reports today that the Kardashians have inked a massive $100 million, four-year deal with E!.
The Kardashians have signed a record-breaking, $100 million-plus deal to remain with E! for another four years, sources have exclusively confirmed to Page Six. Momager Kris Jenner recently secured the astonishing deal for herself and daughters Kim, Khloé, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie Jenner. Bruce Jenner is not part of the deal, having previously agreed that he will be leaving after the upcoming 10th season of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” Bruce has his own show at E! based on his sex transition.
The Kardashian deal, the highest in TV history for a reality brand, is being kept strictly under wraps. E!’s parent company Comcast says it plans to save by spending less on content if its proposed merger with Time Warner Cable goes ahead. The deal covers at least four more seasons of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” as well as spinoffs, which have included “Kourtney and Khloé Take the Hamptons.” E! executives also believe the family’s huge social media following will fuel future digital projects. Jenner had previously been rumored to be in talks about a Kardashian YouTube channel.
There will be further opportunities for the sisters under the new package. Khloé has been hosting red carpet coverage as well as post-Oscar and Grammy specials for E! Kim is also expected to produce her own future shows. Kanye West is not part of the deal, we’re told, but he will continue to appear on “Keeping Up.” Show creator Ryan Seacrest is also believed to be getting a sizeable fee.
[From Page Six]
Page Six also says that they’re looking to do something specifically with the Jenner sisters too, especially now that Kendall’s modeling career is taking off. Although Kylie and Kendall really seem to want to forge their own (non-reality show) path, so I wonder how that will work out. As for Khloe getting to do E! red carpet coverage… NO. Ugh. Khloe appeared on E!’s Oscar red carpet show too and she barely had anything to add. The Pinocchio Butt was a mess on that show too.
Here’s Khloe’s waist-training selfie from a few days ago. How is she not damaging her internal organs?!
I am obsessed with my new waist shaper from @premadonna87!!! I mean how cute is this shaper?!?! Snatching my waist and looking cute all at the same time!!!
