Acting isn’t exactly a walk in the park, especially for Katie Holmesz – who barely escaped a car fire while on set of “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” over the weekend.

The “Dawson’s Creek" darling was in Victoria, Australia filming a scene inside a car when its battery suddenly exploded causing the vehicle to catch fire, according to reports.

Luckily, Holmes, who plays a woman stalked by evil gnomes in the film, was able to escape before attaining any injuries.

“Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” which also stars Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison, is expected to hit theaters in 2011.

Continuing along with non-stop birthday festivities, Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony were spotted arriving at the Edison Ballroom to celebrate "An Evening for Lola" as part of Lopez’s 40th birthday celebration in New York City on Saturday night (July 25).

Among the star-studded guest list were Liza Minelli, Benny Medina, Ricky Martin and Jen’s "The Back-Up Plan" co-star Alex O’Loughlin.

Aside from the birthday festivities, Lopez recently shot down rumors that she’ll be replacing Paula Abdul as a judge on the next season of "American Idol".

A rep for Lopez told People magazine, “The rumor of Jennifer Lopez throwing herself in the ring to take over for Paula Abdul is completely false. Jennifer loves Idol but just as a fan. She just wrapped the feature film The Back-Up Plan, due out January 2010, and will release an album then as well.”

Looking cute and casual, Whitney Port was spotted out getting a coffee and running a few errands in Los Angeles on Saturday (July 25).

Dressed in workout gear, the MTV reality star toted her java pick-me-up and a water bottle as she strolled past awaiting paparazzi towards her nearby car.

The trip out west follows a recent-fun-filled stay in Miami during Mercedes-Benz SWIM Fashion Week, where Whitney filmed scenes for Season 2 of “The City”.

With new episodes slated to begin airing on Tuesday, September 29, the first season of Whitney’s show ended as she split up with her Australian boyfriend, Jay Lyon.

Finished up with a short visit to the west coast, Robert Pattinson was spotted as he caught a flight out of Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday afternoon (July 26).

Toting around his back pack and sporting his Yankees ballcap and trusty Ray Ban sunglasses, the “Twilight” heartthrob stayed in Los Angeles a few days following an appearance at Comic-Con in San Diego late last week.

Recently having filmed the new movie “Remember Me” in New York City, Pattinson spoke to press about his rise to stardom and the impact that it has had on his life.

Though he’s one of Hollywood’s hottest actors, Pattinson tells he hasn’t changed all that much, saying, “I never do anything normal anyway. And I just get other people to do it now.”

“I pretty much live an almost identical life apart from being recognized. That’s not exactly the worst thing in the world,” he adds.

Looking happy as can be, Mariah Carey and husband  Nick Cannon, were out and about enjoying their Friday night (July 24) in Tribeca, NY.

The couple was happy to pose for pictures while dressed to impress with Carey in a little black dress and Cannon in a grey suit.

The night before Mariah made an appearance on BET’s “106 & Park” show.

In related news, the sexy songstress’ new album “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” had a release date of August 25, but was pushed back to September 15 due to an adjustment with digital retailers.

Kicking back on the beach, Lindsay Lohan was in party mode in Malibu, California on Saturday (July 25).

The “Mean Girls” star showed up to a beach house party, carrying a pizza as she ventured inside to relax alongside a group of her friends.

And it sounds as if Miss Lohan’s movie career may not be over – as director Robert Rodriguez showed an interest in casting her during Comic-Con.

Talking about his next project entitled “Machete,” Rodriguez said, “I can’t say too much about it. Except that we start shooting in a couple weeks.”

“We would include Lindsay Lohan, Jonah Hill and Robert DeNiro. That is, if they agree to the parts,” he adds. “There are a lot of people we’re sending the script to, big names – but nobody that we’ve signed yet. I can’t say, you’ll have to wait and see. Next week, or maybe the week after, probably while we’re actually shooting.”

Ready to bring an end to her European tour dates, Britney Spears was spotted leaving the Hyatt hotel at the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin on Sunday (July 27).

The “Gimme More” singer was on her way to the O2 World Arena for what will be the final show on the Circus tour until things pick back up in Ontario, Canada on August 20th.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Miss Spears also may find herself under her father’s control when her lengthy tour duties come to an end in November.

Jamie Spears is planning to ask a judge to review the terms of her conservatorship, but must wait until the end of her Circus shows, as “a number of concert vendors’ contracts specifically stated that the singer would remain under her father’s watchful eye throughout the duration of the tour.”

Out for the day’s duties, Ashley Tisdale got a java pick-me-up this morning at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Toluca Lake, California.

Looking cute in her casual ensemble, the “High School Musical” hottie strutted outside with her coffee drink while chatting on her cell phone.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old recently chatted about relationships – revealing that she’s cautious because of past experiences.

“I have definitely been cheated on. And with someone you really like, if they are cheating on you, you don’t want to believe it,” she said. “But, unfortunately, you either stay in the relationship and keep getting hurt because it keeps happening or you get up and you move on.”

Tizzie adds, “You don’t look back. That’s something that’s very empowering and I think that you should [move on] because you’ll be much happier in the long run.”

Jon Gosselin must be enjoying the new single life, but the drama is stirring up!

Gosselin had recently been seen with Hailey Glassman, who gushed about their relationship, then was seen a week later with tabloid writer Kate Major, 26, who quit Star magazine so her love life would not conflict with her job.

But Gosselin is putting down his foot. The dad of eight says that reports of him and Major are all false reports, and he is not happy about it at all.

Reports say that Gosselin told a friend he has never been intimate with Major.  The 32-year-old said, “Oh my God, I can’t believe she did this to me. What do I do? She’s totally [expletive] me over!”

Major put out a statement on Wednesday making it very clear the two were an item.

“I didn’t mean it to happen, it just did,” she said. “I went to do a story on Jon and ended up falling for him.”

The next day, after releasing the statement, she quit her job at Star due to conflict between her man and her career.

While all this was going on, Hailey Glassman had told People the day before that she and Gosselin are closer than ever and happy as a rebounding player and an alleged drug user and wild child could possibly be.

Glassman also said that her parents are happy for her. “They think of him as part of the family. They think things happen for a reason. This is perfect. It just fits.”

Hailey was unaware of the rumors of Gosselin and Major at the time, after the two were spotted on two dinner dates.

But Jon says that is not the facts.

One insider says that Jon said the dinner was only a business dinner and that Major was writing a story on him.

Friends and family of Major’s aren’t supporting the situation. Her father refused to comment, saying, “No comment. I don’t want to be involved in this whatsoever.” Another source says that she is using Gosselin to only get her moment in the camera.

“Kate always wanted to be a celebrity,” says the close friend. “Now she’s getting her 15 minutes.”

“She just wanted to put herself in the spotlight,” adds a publicist friend.

Continuing along with her promotional duties, Megan Fox spoke during a panel for “Jonah Hex” at Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego on Friday (July 24).

Pulling double duty, as she also attended a screening for “Jennifer’s Body” last night, the “Transformers” cutie lit up the San Diego Convention Center as she took the stage for the day’s press obligations.

And though Miss Fox has definitely made her mark in the entertainment business, it seems as if Angelina Jolie isn’t buying into the many comparisons between the two.

When asked about Megan, Angelina allegedly said, “Is she aiding in Africa or sitting in on U.N. conferences? Donating herself to something bigger than Hollywood? I’m not familiar with her work, is she an Oscar contender?”
