Sean Penn was born in Burbank, California, on August 17, 1960. His father, Leo Penn, was a director and his mother, Eileen Ryan, an actress. In high school he rubbed shoulders with Martin Sheen’s boys, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez, and after graduation, joined the Los Angeles Repertoire Theater Company. He then appeared in several TV productions, including an episode of “Barnaby Jones”, before landing the part of an overzealous cadet in the hit Taps (1981).
Soon thereafter, his turn as pothead surfer Joe Spicolo in Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) made him an overnight sensation. His next project was 1983’s disturbingly violent prison drama Bad Boys, followed by Crackers (1984) and the WWII-era Racing with the Moon (1984). While the latter was not a box office hit, Penn got great reviews for playing a young man on the verge of shipping out. Then, according to the critics, Penn outdid himself again in the espionage thriller The Falcon and the Snowman (1985).
After his tumultuous marriage to and divorce from Madonna, which included his infamous roughing up of the paparazzi and the disappointment of Shanghai Surprise (1987), Penn would resurface with Colors (1988), a timely, riveting story set in L.A.’s gang-ridden neighborhoods. Sean Penn the actor has at times stepped aside for Sean Penn the director. His films to date include The Indian Runner (1991), The Crossing Guard (1995) and The Pledge (2001); Penn’s directorial efforts are light on action but heavy on the emotion, with actors given plenty of room to flex their thespian muscles.
It was for 1995’s Dead Man Walking that Sean Penn received an Academy Award? nomination for Best Actor. Though he did not win, his performance as a racist, hate-filled death row inmate was brave and heartrending. Then would come celebrated turns in 1997’s She’s So Lovely alongside wife Robin Wright Penn, Hurlyburly (1998), The Thin Red Line (1998) and Woody Allen’s Sweet and Lowdown (1999). In 2002, he received his second Best Actor Oscar? nod, for I Am Sam, in which he played a mentally-handicapped man fighting for custody of his daughter. His latest outing was in Mystic River (2003), a Clint Eastwood drama set in Boston.
Hollywood couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith are sinking over $1 million dollars into a private school that that will offer healthy organic meals, laptops for students, and learning based on “equity” and “respect” to create “citizens of the world.” But are parents being told of this schools ties to the Church of Scientology?
The school, called the New Village Academy will be using some of the same teaching methodology used within the Church of Scientology and has people from the church hired to put this into action.
Will Smith and Jada have home-schooled their children but have spoken about wanting to open a school where their children, Jaden, 9, and Willow, 7, can receive an education that contains their belief system.
Although they are not disclosing this information openly, Will Smith and Jada are paying for the pre-kindergarten through sixth grade school in Calabasas, Calif., and they have the group of Scientologists, including the Director of Learning, Director of Qualifications and Artistic Director, heading up the program.
The executive director of the California Association of Private School Organizations, Ron Reynolds, stated that it’s not the Scientology teaching methods but the school’s non-disclosure about it’s religious affiliation. Ron Reynolds said, “School should be forthright about its purposes. And if it’s a religious school, I don’t see why it wouldn’t wish to announce its religious affiliation loud and clear,” Reynolds said.
While the affiliation with Scientology is not made apparent, in the glossary of educational theories, it lists “study technology,” an “educational model developed by L.R. Hubbard.” L. Ron Hubbard is the founder of the Church of Scientology.
There has been speculation that Will Smith was affiliated with Scientology, but he has never stated that fact in public. During an interview with Access Hollywood, Smith said, Smith spoke about Scientology: “I was introduced [to] it by Tom [Cruise], and I’m a student of world religion. I was raised in a Baptist household, I went to a Catholic school, but the ideas of the Bible are 98 percent the same ideas of Scientology, 98 percent the same ideas of Hinduism and Buddhism.”
Natalie Portman, 26, and Scarlett Johansson, 23, were co-stars in “The Other Boleyn Girl” but their friendship seemed to have extended beyond. They were at the Berlin premiere of their movie when they took the time to share a romantic kiss. Natalie might have initiated the kiss to dispel her own fears of being a boring actress. She told the press that she thought of herself as being boring. Scarlett rushed to Natalie’s defence and said that she did not think that Natalie was boring.
“The Other Boleyn Girl” is a film of 2 sisters, Mary and Anne Boleyn in a film re-make of the book by Philippa Gregory. The book was selected to be made into a film because it was a bestseller.
She is regularly voted one of the hottest women in the world and now Access Rising Star Sarah Shahi is bringing that fire to television as “Life’s” sexy detective Dani Rees.
The gorgeous gal plays a complicated policewoman, one whose personal troubles spill over into her professional life. As a result, Rees gets partnered with the most unpopular guy on the force – Charlie Crews (played by Damian Lewis).
As the premise of the show goes — Crews was falsely imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. After winning his release, a handsome legal settlement, and his job back, the show follows Crews as he is reinstated as a detective and sent into the field. As he investigates and solves crimes, he does it alongside the smoking-hot Rees.
Shahi’s character, Rees, has plenty of troubles of her own. In the first few episodes, viewers learn Rees got stuck with Crews because of a previous drug problem that sent her to rehab. Her character might also be a sex addict too.
Real life is much more sweet for Shahi. The Texas native, who is of Persian and Spanish decent, grew up a beauty queen. She’s also a former cheerleader, who twirled her pom poms for the Dallas Cowboys.
As far as her acting pedigree goes, Shahi has been featured in a host of primetime hits. She made guest appearances on the Jennifer Garner fronted “Alias,” “The L Word” and CW favorite “Supernatural.”
Fans will definitely remember her for her very sexy scenes with Tony Soprano in the final season of the popular HBO show “The Sopranos” too. Shahi played the lovely Vegas-vixen who Tony shared a lost, peyote-inspired weekend with, following his nephew Christopher’s “untimely” death.

Sarah Harding, 26, the celebrity singer in Girls Aloud, has revealed her lingerie modeling for Ultimo’s Valentine’s Day collection. Ultimo belongs to a Scottish firm. The photo session was done in Miami, Florida.
Sarah said that she worked hard to get her body in shape. She had been modeling for Ultimo since 2006, for their A-C line. This Spring/Summer 2008 collection would be her last campaign as an “Ultimo Angel.”
